East Bay boys lacrosse notebook

Need proof that the sport of lacrosse is growing in Northern California?
Look no further than Martinez, California.

That is where Alhambra High School is located and that is where one of the North Coast Section’s newest lacrosse programs is.
The Bulldogs and head coach Al Boyce are trying to continue building their program and are looking to compete in the very competitive Diablo Foothill Athletic League.
The Bulldogs have won three games so far, and beat Dougherty Valley for their first league win recently as they continue to get established.
Speaking of the new programs, how about the older programs?
Berkeley and Bishop O’Dowd are two of the first programs in the East Bay, coming around in the 1980s and the Yellowjackets and Dragons are still doing battle in the Bay Shore Athletic League against one another.

Rankings

Anybody notice the new team in the top 15?
Well, it’s Bentley and the Phoenix appear to be a program on the rise, thanks in large part to head coach Greg Angilly.
Angilly led St. Ignatius Prep, a top-notch program, to a pair of top 25 national rankings in consecutive years. He stepped down and showed up at Bentley and now that team is 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Bay Counties League.
De La Salle is the new No. 1 team this week after winning by a combined score of 31-1 in a pair of East Bay Athletic League games.
Amador Valley jumps from No. 7 to No. 2, pounding California 15-2 and edging San Ramon Valley 10-9. The Wolves check in at No. 6 this week.
Foothill moves up two spots to No. 3 after a pair of wins and Clayton Valley also moves up two spots, to No. 4, winning three wins in Monterey area.
Acalanes makes a huge jump, moving from No. 15 to No. 8 after a win over Las Lomas showed that the Dons might just be the team to beat in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League.
Berkeley also makes a big jump, moving to No. 9 from No. 14 and could be emerging as the top team in the Bay Shore Athletic League.

Bently also has the best lacrosse field around, with only soccer and lacrosse markings, since there is no football at the school.

Got to tell you, get Livermore out of the top 15.. trust me.
