East Bay Boys Lacrosse Notebook

Just a few quick hits this week.
I want to touch on the Monte Vista lacrosse team first. I just got my first look at this team, and it’s no wonder they nearly beat De La Salle, losing 12-11 in overtime a couple of weeks ago.
After beating Amador Valley and then going 1-2 in a very competitive tournament in Portland, the Mustangs look like they are playing their best lacrosse.

They beat Foothill 14-6 on Friday night, and looked very impressive.
They have a very good player who wins a lot of face-offs in John Solomon, they have two very explosive and quick kids on the attack in Cody Soberanes and Casey Hock and they have two very talented keepers in Trevor Moriarty and Nico Dutra.
Watch out for this team during the rest of the East Bay Athletic League schedule.
Speaking of the EBAL, I have to tough on the leaders really quickly, the De La Salle Spartans.
They played St. Ignatius Prep on Saturday, a matchup between the No. 2 and No. 4 teams in the state (De La Salle was ranked fourth) and the Wildcats left Owen Owens Field with a 17-8 win.
I already wrote about this game, but I just need to say that De La Salle did not play poorly. SI is a very, very good team.
Sure, the Spartans didn’t play their best, no question, but the Wildcats are just immensely talented.
Lastly, I want to touch on the Clayton Valley program.
The Eagles lead the East Bay with 11 wins and are the easy favorites to win the Diablo Valley Athletic League.
They raced out to a 7-1 start, with the only loss coming by one goal to a good EBAL team, California. They then lost to Las Lomas 10-9, meaning their two losses were by one goal, and by identical scores.
After getting beat badly (14-3) by a very good Acalanes team, the Eagles have bounced back.
They beat San Marin 11-6, then started DVAL play by beating Berean Christian, Northgate and College Park by a combined score of 46-7.

Rankings

Only small changes in the top 15 this week. The most notable comes at the top with Monte Vista moving up one spot to No. 2, Amador Valley moving up a spot to No. 3 and Foothill dropping two spots to No. 4. The Mustangs and Dons both beat the Falcons last week.
