Bishop O’Dowd star forward Justin Brue has committed to UC San Diego. The 6-foot-5 Hayward Area Athletic League first teamer averaged 13.8 points per game while leading the Dragons to the North Coast Section Division III semifinals. Brue is expected to sign with the NCAA Division II school Saturday.

That puts Brue, Rashad Parker of Castro Valley and Davion Berry of Hayward all in the same conference next season (CCAA).

Tht is great to see more HAAL Athletes continuing their athletic leagues…Looks like CSU-East Bay missed out on some great AREA Hoop Stars…..Any word on anybody thy r bringin in???

Congradulations to Brue, good kid high riser with a lot of upside in college.

  • OG Bobby Johnson

Dez – East Bay signed Mark Samuels from Berkeley High he is a talented point guard. They also signed a kid from Bella Vista named Martin Keitt I don’t know anything about him.

I am all for supporting local schools but Dez let’s face it East Bay never had a chance with these guys that played in the HAAL League. Think about it you are a 17yr old kid and you can live at home with Moms for 4 yrs and go to college 15min away from her house or live in a dorm off the beach in Monterey or San Diego like Berry and Brue. I know what my choice would be! LOL. Aside from that Hayward will probably be the worst team in their league. Monterey is coming off a good year where they beat National Champions runner up Cal Poly Pomona and they are very excited to have Berry.

I meant to say East Bay.. The school will always be Cal St. Hayward to me.

Bower – Lets not forget these guys will also see Will Petty and D.J. Broome from Castro Valley when they play Humbolt State.

Just saw this on the net. Damon Powell to attend a JC in Idaho.

    Damon Powell to…

Damon Powell, a 6-6 high-flying (he defines the term) forward out of McClymonds High in Oakland, CA has signed to attend College of Southern Idaho next season.

The longtime rumor was that Powell wouldn’t be able to make the leap to D-1 due to academics so he will now turn to one of the most fabled junior college programs in the country.

He had been connected to Fresno State and rumored to have officially visited there but he is headed to Twin Falls, ID

So how good will CSU East Bay be this next year? I hear Martin Keitt is 6’7″ 280 inside guy.

  • Brett

Martin Keitt averaged 13.5 points and 7 rebounds a game his senior year at Bella Vista. Found it on maxpeps. He seems to be skilled, and rumor has it he is mobile for his size.

Looks like Cal-State East Bay had a good recruiting year. Donovan Jackson (G) 20 ppg 1st team and league MVP. Joshua De La Torre (G) 19 ppg 1st team all league. Martin Keitt is a load in the middle at 6-8 280. Prince Ray Pope is transferring from UC Riverside. Demetrius Owens, Mark Samuels and Efren Sifuentes should help bolster the team.
