So, we’re on to the quarterfinal round this weekend. I won’t be in the office tomorrow, so I figured I’d toss out this weekend’s preview a day early. Enjoy.
Here are the picks for the NCS baseball Division I – III quarterfinals. Go ahead and submit your picks in the comment section! Enjoy.

Malik McCord has been named the new varsity girls basketball coach at Bishop O’Dowd High.
McCord replaces Kevin Cushing, who stepped down after last season’s North Coast Section Division III title run so he could spend more time with his family.
McCord served as an assistant coach under Cushing for the past two seasons and has coached several AAU teams and had a stint as an assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Moreau Catholic.
“I want to help build on the success of the program, and help bring O’Dowd its first girls basketball state championship,” said McCord, according to a press release from Bishop O’Dowd.
The Dragons will return the core of their team next season and has high expectations after going 28-3 and reaching the Northern California Division III quarterfinals last season. O’Dowd also made a huge breakthrough in Hayward Area Athletic League play, capturing its first league crown since 2003 by beating rival Moreau Catholic twice in league and once in a nonleague contest.
I spent a good portion of last night monitoring election results, waiting to see if voters in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District would approve Measure D, a $99 per parcel tax aimed at restoring programs like music, after-school sports and teaching positions that the district had cut.
Well, it didn’t happen.
So, now the question is what happens next? Will high school sports for the MDUSD’s schools – Clayton Valley, College Park, Concord, Mt. Diablo, Northgate and Ygnacio Valley – in fact cease to exist next year? That’s the question that has everyone on edge today. Feel free to chime in with what you think the next step is going to be.
Well, it’s that time of year again. I’ve had a couple requests for a first-round preview, so I figured I’d go game by game for each of the first three divisions. So, enjoy!
I know we are cutting it close to game time, but we will try to post our picks for each game this week. You can play along and post your picks in the comment section, if you want. Although, there won’t be any point totaling like we did with basketball, which means no Eternal Glory will be granted. But it’s fun to play for pride so join in and make some picks! We will only be doing Division I – III.
We have hit the North Coast Section baseball playoffs, which means it is time for us to blog live from some NCS baseball games. With so many games taking place throughout the week, a live blog might not be possible every day. But we will have you covered Tuesday. I will be blogging live from the No. 12 Castro Valley at No. 5 California baseball game. I will also be getting updates from our reporters out at the other NCS games.
We will have updates on No. 10 Deer Valley at No. 7 Irvington and No. 11 San Ramon Valley at No. 6 Newark Memorial for the Division I. I will also get updates on No. 8 El Cerrito at No. 9 Albany in Division III. So make sure to be right here around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday!
