This will be the post to find updates from the first day of the California Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championships from Buchanan High School in Clovis just outside of Fresno. I will be bringing you updates as best as I can. I will try to get some live interviews with a few of the athletes. I won’t be allowed to broadcast the meet live, but can share some periodic updates via video.

Click here and go to page 9 for a schedule of today’s field events and running qualifiers. All finals will be Saturday.

Click here for a running results page. This will be able to get you updated results on the fly. I will have results of the running as it happends, but to check all the official times I suggest using the before mentioned link.  Finally, here is a list of events and all the athletes competing in them.

The top 9 in each event advance to the finals on Saturday.

9:54 p.m. – I have to punch out agate for the newspaper so I haven’t had much time to blog. But you are all set with results with the link above. I will be back here tomorrow night for a live blog of the finals.
St. Elizabeth's Ashton Purvis is consoled after she false started in the Girls 100 Meter Dash preliminaries during the 2009 CIF State Track and Field Championships on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif. Purvis was disqualified in the event. (Jose Carlos Fajardo/Staff)

7:15 p.m. – Wow! Big news out here! Ashton Purvis of St. Elizabeth just false started in the 100. She is out. Purvis is considered one of the top sprinters in the nation.

6:59 p.m. – Since the updates are coming live from the link above, I went out and interviewed a few athletes. Got an up date from Bishop O’Dowd long jumper/hurdler Chad Jones. The Cal-bound senior qualified for Saturday’s finals in the long jump but tweaked his hamstring in the process and it cost him in the 110-hurdles. Jones said he will be ready to go in the long jump tomorrow. He failed to qualify in the 110-hurdles. Also got information from James Logan girls jumper ciarra Brewer. The sophomore is going to load up on the carbs tonight so she can be ready for Saturday’s triple jumps finals.

6:07 p.m. – I am doing agate at the same time as trying to update you people out there so sorry about the delay. Some interesting notes from some of the results. Diana George of Livermore grabbed the last qualifying spot in the 1,600 and Arroyo’s Danny Thomas ran a personal-best 4:11.22 in the 1,600 and ran the second-best qualifying time. He was behind Toby Villalva of Eltor (4:10.76),

5:25 p.m. – I am looking at the girls triple jump results and the North Coast Section claimed the top four spots. James Logan’s Ciarra Brewer took one jump (42-2.5) to lock down the top mark of the day. Moreau Catholic’s Alitta Boyd took one jump (41-4), James Logan’s Lauren McGlory (40-5) and St. Mary’s Aziza Baker (40-1.25) roundout the top four spot holders.

5:19 p.m. – After one of the most eventful trips of my life to a stadium, I am finally setup here at Buchanan High School in Clovis. A very nice facility for a high school. The place is pretty packed. We have just begun the relay portion of the running trials. Remember to click the above link for live results. I am going to try to get some interviews on camera and pictures for you guys.

10:47 a.m. – OK, I will be back around 4:30 p.m. or so to give the first updates. Running events don’t start until 5 p.m. and the first field events start at 3 p.m. I will do the best I can for live updates in the running events and you can click the link above for results for field events. If you have any questions or want to know how an athlete is doing, feel free to comment in the comment section!

Glad you are doing this. Too bad about Ashton, at least she has the 200 left. I see Alitta qualified for both long and triple jumps. Any pics or video from those events?

    thanks,

    Peter P.

  • Michael Bower

Sorry, Peter. No video or pics from those events. Unfortunately, CIF doesn’t allow non-photographers on the infield so I can’t get close enough to get good video or pictures. I will try to get some of tomorrow’s finals in the long and triple jump.

Anybody know why Dash Oliver from Castro Valley didn’t show up?

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

Darn, that’s a real shame about Ashton. That’ll be tough to not see maybe the best athlete in the stadium not competing in her top event.

  • Michael Bower

Dash Oliver tweaked his hamstring running the 100 at the NCS MOC last week. He couldn’t go in the 4×100 relay for Castro Valley. Oliver didn’t qualify in any other event.
