I will do my best to get some pictures up here. Here are some links you will want to know.

Above is a link to a video with James Logan’s Ciarra Brewer after she won the girls triple jump state title.

Above is a link to a video with Moreau Catholic’s Alitta Boyd. This is just after she finished in second place in the triple jump. Sorry if you can’t hear it well, but it is the best I can do with what I have.

8:31 p.m. — This will be my last post on the blog because I am getting swamped with results and need to help put stuff together for the newspaper. Final word from here is Alitta Boyd finished second in the long jump. Carondelet’s Adrienne Johnson won the high jump and Deer Valley triple jumper Hammed Suleman won that event. St. Elizabeth’s Ashton Purvis won the 200 in 23.46. For times and other results from the rest of the night visit the link above.

7:28 p.m. – Boyd is in second place in the long jump with a mark of 20-2. The leader is Dunn at 20-3.25. Still four more jumps to go, I believe.

7:26 p.m. – Alitta Boyd is now competing in the long jump – her final event of her high school career. I believe she just marked at 20-2 and is in second place at the moment. I will try to get this updated ASAP.

7:25 p.m. – Reggie Wyatt just won the boys 400 in 46.13. The Oakland Raiders are probably looking into drafting this guy to play WR. haha, just joking.

6:43 p.m. – Chase Wheeler of De La Salle was just given his award for winning the long jump.

6:38 p.m. – Arroyo’s Danny Thomas didn’t have his best race today and finished out of the medals in the boys 1,600. Thomas looks spent after running a personal-best in the preliminaries on Friday. Still, a great season for the junior.

6:13 p.m. – De La Salle had the lead on the final 100 in the 400 relay but Serra from the Southern Section had a stronger anchor and won the event in 40.67. Long Beach Poly finished second in 40.75 and DLS came in at 40.85.

6:05 p.m. – De La Salle’s Chace Wheeler just took the lead in the boys long jump with a mark 25-2.25 and now he has to rush over to compete in the 400 relay. This is funny. The race is about to start and Wheeler is rushing over to his lane. Wheeler’s jump was wind legal.

5:54 p.m. – Boyd jumps 42-3.5 on her final jump so it will be Brewer as the state champion. Brewer had a final jump of 42-6.75. A great series by the sophomore, Brewer.

5:44 p.m. – Boyd’s steps just seem to be off, as she just runs through the board in her second attempt of the final round for a scratch. She will have one more jump. Meanwhile, Brewer continues to jump about three inches behind the white board but still is getting some unbelievable marks. She jumps 41-8 on her second attempt of the final round and is still the leader.

5:42 p.m. Baker of St. Mary’s just did her second jump of the final round. She had a mark of 40-5.5.

5:37 p.m. – Brewer jumps 42-7 in the girls triple jump. She is really getting some good jumps in. Alitta jumped 41-10 in her first jump of the final round. Each have two more jumps.

5:30 p.m. We have five jumpers over 40 feet in the girls triple jump. All four of the NorCal girls are over 40 feet. Brewer is in the lead with Boyd in second.

5:23 – Boyd scratched on her final leap and Ciarra Brewer leaps 42-11.5 on her final leap to make Boyd’s national mark short lived. Brewer takes the lead heading into the final round of three jumps each.

5:20 p.m. – The final round of jumps in the girls triple jump and Boyd still has the lead.

5:11 – Boyd leaps 42-4.25 to take the lead. It is wind-legal and is the No. 1 mark nation!!

5:09 – Through a round of jumps: Alitta Boyd (Moreau Catholic)-Scratch, Ciarra Brewer (James Logan) - 41-8, Lauren McGlory (James Logan) 40-1, Baker’s (St. Mary’s) first jump was missed. she jumped 38-11 the second time.

4:55 p.m. – A real nice day out here at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. I would say it is about 80 degrees or so out here. A little breeze going but nothing major. The girls triple jump has started and the boys long jump is about to begin. I will focus on the girls triple jump for a while since there are four NCS participants.

4:44 p.m. – The field events have just begun. Moreau Catholic’s Alitta Boyd and the rest of the field have taken their run throughs. I will be adding my thoughts and updates on here as quickly as possible. Like yesterday, if you want live time results click on the link above. If you have any questions, place them in the comment section.

  • High School Sports Junkie

Hey Mike you guys have a great day out there and always thank you for all you guys do

  • Michael Bower

Thanks, Junkie. Really appreciate that. The weather is great out here. Probably around 80 degrees or so.

  • moreaudad

Hey Michael, great you are reporting….please keep us informed on how Alitta and the other Norcal girls are doing in the TJ and LJ.

  • moreaudad

    How’s the spectator turnout…full house?

  • Michael Bower

The crowd turnout is great here. The place is packed!

  • moreaudad

Based on his very easy 400…think Reggie will go REAL LOW in the finals tonight? Don’t know if he can improve on his 300 record last night…that looked all out!

  • moreaudad

Figured Brewer had one big one to let fly….sorry for Alitta but 2nd isn’t bad if that holds up. Congrats to them.

  • Michael Bower

Well they have three more jumpes each but 42-11.5 is going to be really tough to beat…..I think Reggie is going to be lights out tonight in the 400. The guy was signing autographs for hours after setting the record in the 300 hurdles.

  • moreaudad

Didn’t realize they were only in round 3….so you never know…those two push each other to do some crazy things! Alitta said she wasn’t holding anything back for LJ later.

  • High School Sports Junkie

moreaudad in your post #8 when you said “figured Brewer had one big one to let fly…. I thought you said Bower and I was thinking you knew him better than most especially eating after he ate that chilidog from the snack bar

  • moreaudad

    LOL…track humor Junkie!

  • Michael Bower

haha, at least I have two viewers to keep me entertained! I am trying to get some videos up here for you guys.

  • High School Sports Junkie

now he wants to provide us video and maybe some audio of his big event. He is so proud

  • Michael Bower

    Yes, you are correct! haha

  • moreaudad

    Thanks for the Alitta Video….

  • moreaudad

the boys 400 should be next?

  • Michael Bower

Wyatt won the boys 400 in 46.13. Second place time was 46.41.

  • Porque

Wow, what a great day for the Spartans of De La Salle. Chase Wheeler just set a new best mark for the state this year and I think, a new school record and certainly his personal best. The 4 x 100 relay team is to be commended as well setting a new school record. Just ask any DLS track team member about what to do to win a meet and they’ll say, “Make sure you bring along Chase Wheeler.” Chase also was voted this year’s top athlete and he just doesn’t dissapoint. All of these guys have been superb all year long and three of the 4 members of the relay team will be coming back next year as Seniors. Go Spartans in 2010!

  • Michael Bower

I agree Porque. And the boys De La Salle team is tied for first place with Clovis East with 16 points.

  • http://cctimes dominic

how did sean delfoni do in the boys 400M

  • moreaudad

OK…46.13 for Reggie…I was guessing sub 46 but nice time…3rd in US.

  • moreaudad

20-2 for Alitta is a PR I believe. Thanks for the updates…keep’em coming

  • Michael Bower

Delfini too fifth with a time of 47.80

  • Porque

I just checked and Chase Wheeler of DlS shattered the previous school record of 24 feet and the 4 x 100 team also shattered last years record by about .30 or so seconds. What a fine accomplishment. Getting third place in this relay, in one of the most competitive track states in the US, is certainly worth celebrating tomorrow at the track awards banquet!

  • Michael Bower

    sorry, it is Delfani

  • Michael Bower

These Red Vines here are great. And right from my hometown of Union City. I can’t believe I didn’t know that. I am going to have to visit the factory now.

  • Porque

I’ve followed Sean Delfani’s track career and football exploits at Las Lomas since he just blew out the field in the CYO Diocese meet as an 8th grader. I couldn’t beleive that a kid that young could run a 53.something when he eased up at the end. Could’ve set the meet record. It’s nice to see him finishing strong now. He’s going to go places too.

  • Porque

Michael, great job here. I really appreciate the service and coverage. I’m a track junkie as well and love every detail regarding track and field. Can we get any video of the boys long jump and the 4 x 100 relay?

  • http://aol Big Joe

More DLS facts, the 40.85 400 meter relay time today(3rd place) is now the NCS record all-time breaking Berkeley High’s 40.86 in 1981. BHS had a 10.24 sprinter Robinson anchoring.
Chase Wheeler’s 25’2 1/4″ jump is now 2nd all-time in the NCS behind 1954 winner Monte Upshaw out of Piedmont who broke Jesse Owen’s prep mark . Upshaw jumped 25’4 1/4. Make sure the paper says that!
Look out, 3 out of 4 sprinters return for DeLa next year.

  • Porque

Yes Big Joe and they all play football as well as you probably know already. Should be another great stable of backs in the fall. These guys are all talented but a lot of credit must go to the sprint and jumps coaches. They are truly amazing as well. Chase changed one facet of his long jump technique on his coach’s recommendation and look what happened! Sometimes talented athletes can make significant adjustments and garner equally brilliant results!

Now we just have to wait for the girl’s 3200 and the girl’s high jump. Go Colleen Lillig and Adrienne Johnson. They are also great athletes and personalities.

  • http://OaklandTribune Team Mom

Do your thing Ashton!!! We Love you!!!

  • Michael Bower

Sorry guys, Really wish I could get more video on here and updates but we have five state champions in our area and are starting to scramble to get everything covered for the newspaper. So I have to jet! hope you enjoyed the coverage.

  • http://aol Big Joe

Lots of good passing and discinpline to run a 40.85 without a 103-10.4 sprinter in the stables. However, looking at the video, Egu had an outstanding split, comparable to a 10.4-10.5 100 m. Other De La teams have also run in the 41′s, but this years squad had a 41.43, 41.51, 41.53, 41.68, 41.82. A couple of these times were run with alternates. WOW! They now have a faster time than the great El Cerrito teams of the early seventies with Sammy Burns, ( 41.1 and 41.2) and the great Castlemont team of 1970 ( 41.2 and 41.3). They have surpasses all the BHS squads of the 1980′s. This time also beats the lead off leg Ward’s Dad’s ream. Coach Ward ran at Wilson S.F. in the mid seventies. The 1972 squad with Mike Mad Dog Farmer, Kirkman, Walker and Whitaker ran a 41.0. How’s that for facts. Move over Keith Conning, Big Joe is on the scene!

  • jfresh

Wow bg Joe, you are a historian of track. I played on the same SJSU football team with Kirtman and Ron Whitiker. I had a team at the state meet and know Terell and John. This is one of the best series of passes I have ever seen on any level, and they did run this time with the fastest at around 10.7.

  • http://aol Big Joe

doing some research, so far I cannot find a Northern Cal 400 meter/440 relay team in one year who ran under 41.8 as many times as DeLa this year. I count 7 times so far, if they run Golden West it might be more. Wilson was a state winner 2 yrs running, 1972- 41.3, 1973 41.0 and third in 1974. El Cerrito copped state in 1971 at 41.1, ran 41.2 in 1970, Castlemont ran 41.2 and 41.3 in 1970. BHS in the early 1980′s had lots of times in the 41′s. Even Edison of Stockton with 4 sprinters 9.6 or better( wind aided out there) could only manage 2 41.5′s. Does anyone know more?
