I was able to catch up with Foothill quarterback Sean Mannion today to talk about his commitment to Oregon State — he was excited.
Him and his dad John, who is the co-head coach at Foothill and the school’s athletic director, visited the Corvallis campus in the spring and went back up again two weeks ago for an invitational camp. They got to spend a lot of time with head coach Mike Riley (former coach of the San Diego Chargers) and everyone got along really well.
After getting the offer from Riley, Mannion slept on it and then called him back the next day to give his oral commitment.
He said he really liked the coaching staff, the offense and the feel he had on campus.
OSU recently completed a renovation of its stadium and its facilities are all relatively new as well.
Mannion was looking to play at the highest level, so when the Pac-10 offer came — from a school he was high on — he pulled the trigger.
Is it too early to look forward to the Foothill-Monte Vista game this year? Unless there is some history I’m not aware of, it will be the first time in East Bay Athletic League history that two Pac-10 committed QBs will play against each other.
