St. Elizabeth High’s Ashton Purvis and James Logan’s Ciarra Brewer both won events at the World Youth Track & Field Trials in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Wednesday.
Purvis, competing for E.O.Y.D.C., won the girls 100 meters final by .21 seconds with a wind-legal time of 11.61. She also took first in the 200 final by .33 seconds with a time of 23.38, which is faster than her winning time in the event at the California Interscholastic Federation state championships.
Brewer, competing for Mission Valley, won the girls triple jump with an impressive wind-legal leap of 43 feet, 4 1/4 inches. The wind reading was -0.9 mps. She won the event by more than two feet, and the mark is nearly five inches farther then her CIF state-winning mark.
All three of the winning marks Wednesday met the entry standards for the IAAF World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy on July 8-12
