Miramonte High girls basketball star Stephanie Golden orally committed to Gonzaga University on Sunday. She told Gonzaga of her decision while taking her official visit to the Spokane, Washington campus.
“They had always been my No. 1,” she said. “Basically it was the perfect fit. I felt perfectly comfortable with them.”
Golden also considered Oregon State, Washington, University of Nevada-Las Vegas and UC Santa Barbara before deciding on the Bulldogs.
Golden, a 6-foot-3 center, was a first-team all-Diablo Foothill Athletic League selection last season. She averaged 15.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 1.9 assists and 1.8 blocks per game for the Matadors last season.
Gonzaga would like Golden to play small forward or power forward, she said.
“They said they would probably need me to play right away,” Golden said.
Golden has played power forward for her club team.
