Encinal High’s Tyrone Duckett is continuing the trend of Jets athletic quarterbacks moving on to collegiate secondaries.

A year ago, two-way star Jonathan Brown earned a scholarship to Boise State. Duckett, who replaced Brown as Encinal quarterback and also stars at safety, gave his oral commitment Tuesday to play football at Washington State.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Duckett visited the Pullman, Wash., campus a week and a half ago.
“It was great,” Duckett said of his visit. “It was a new experience for me. They welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I can continue my career there and help contribute to the team.”
Duckett said he’s expected to play strong safety. Fresno State, UCLA and San Diego State had also shown interest.
He said giving the early commitment won’t change his dedication to success this year.
“I’m happy that I (committed), but it’s still all about winning games,” Duckett said.
Duckett led Encinal to a season-opening 45-18 win over El Cerrito last week by rushing for 85 yards and two touchdowns. He had 595 rushing yards and totaled 12 touchdowns in last year’s North Coast Section Division III championship season, while contributing 69 tackles.

As a Wazzu Alum, I hope he can contribute right away. The Cougs are a bit down this year but that just means he can compete for playing time right away. Our red shirt Freshman class is strong, though, so next year will be a strong one. Looking forward to Duckett playing for the Crimson and Gray!! GO COUGS!!!
