Redwood Christian pitcher A.J. Vanegas has been named to the USA Baseball 18-under national team. He is the only Northern California player on the 20-member squad. The team is training in North Carolina through Sept. 23, then will travel to Venezuela for the (18-under) Pan American Junior Championships.

Last season at Redwood Christian, the 6-foot-3 right-hander had a 9-2 record with a 1.20 earned run average and 100 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings.

A.J. has also been named one of the top 25 high school draft prospects in the country, although he does plan to still go to college.

I just seen A.J. recently on the Aflac H.S. All American game. It was televised on espn. That kid is the Real Deal. On another note, Redwood Christian is supposed to play a scrimmage in Febuary against Arroyo and A.J. should be pitching some innings. Arroyo is just a few blocks away from Redwood Christian. Should be fun.
