Wow, somebody voted Deer Valley is better DLS, MV, and Foothill? Sounds crazy, but its nice to someone step out on faith!!
September 28th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Why Deer Valley? Watch out for that date with Pitt!
September 28th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
3 Dval teams in it and im not even sure those are the best 3 dval teams. this league race will be the best in the bay area… All 6 teams are very good and the #1 team from last year clayton valley, isnt that much better than the last place NG team from a year ago… al 6 teams are good and are very close to one another talent wise.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
concord stays in the same spot at 12 even after a loss?
September 28th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
that’s right. league play is starting and will start the real discussions. especially Berkeley, very high on them as the best team that’ll catch you off guard. they’ve proven to be a top 4 team and play with nothing to lose. wait for NCS, their games will be awesome. they can play with any ebal team, and as DLS knows, teams with a great run game fare the best.. I guarantee you no 50+ dls blowouts for anybody this year. even livermore has improved and dls will not blow teams out like they once did
SRV ahead of Cal? hmm as a homer I like it, but I don’t think Kyle’s writing off the grizz yet. Big game their ebal opener friday against each other is huge. Has SRV shown they aren’t down this year? Has Cal moved past those bumps and continued to be a top ebal team? Both programs have been very successful in recent years, big results when they meet.
Also when’s the last time Granada was ranked? good sign for the mats. They are a threat to any unprepared team they get at home. I feel that. SRV lost there in 05 taking them lightly. They will upset somebody again this time, AV was the last team in 07, maybe a two year trait? they’ve got what it takes it seems to pull together a defining big game to keep them relevant. rising up like Cal High did under Sanchez to become a constant threat if you look past them..
watch out for the DVAL, one of the most competitive leagues as well. three teams 4-0, two 3-1, each team is capable of being champs, that’ll be a fun race. as an ebal guy, I like the tightness and the ‘every-game-counts’ attitude, and this league sure has it. rootin for concord the rest of the way because they are loaded and gave SRV helluva game. they’ll achieve working on last year 2nd round NCS
and the other leagues around, the haal is up for grabs. i dont see san leandro as potent this year as they have been, but they usually pull together and impress by running the table in league. o’dowd looks overrated and i dont mean that in a bad way. they need focus and i think they’ll find it, but they’ve been playing down to their opponents and they’re more talented than that. hayward will take advantage if anybody falters, because they are probably the strongest complete team.
mval is a good race too. each team leaves it out on the field and that is a fun title hunt to watch.
encinal and berkeley have to be the favorites each week in their leagues, and their confidence is high and their determination even higher, not looking too far ahead, but eyes on the prize as they say
good luck to every team. this season there’s so many great games played and to be played. 09 is the year somebody knocks off dls. if not in league, in ncs.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Who ever voted deer valley shouldn’t have the right to vote no more
September 29th, 2009 at 3:42 am
How can Cal High be ranked ahead of Washington even though Washington beat them on their home field. The newspaper writers are a joke and Bonagara is a EBAL Homer. LOL
September 29th, 2009 at 7:32 am
Where is MtD??????
4-0 and looking to run thru the DVAL with my boyz Jack and Turner. Concord lost they should be out but don’t worry cuz no matter what when we play we will end up ranked
September 29th, 2009 at 8:32 am
lots of respect still for teams who haven’t played anyone…and lots of disrespect for teams that are playing top opponents week in week out…im sure it will play itself out…
here are some notes:
AV while impressive…their opponents records are 1-9 and actually have a negative overall rating according to cal preps…heck anyone can be 3-0 playing cupcakes, but they will get a chance to prove in ebal so plenty of opportunities out there. so i do think they are good team but dont think we know enough yet
in fact according to cal preps..of their top 6 d1 teams only DLS opponents are playing to a over .500 record. while pitt, logan, washington, cal, heritage all opponents well over .500 record to this point…
last piece isn’t head to head the biggest denominator in affecting rankings…washington has better record and beat cal high yet left off the rankings, while cal high at 11…remember injuries dont count, all teams play with them. so why doesnt pitt get a free pass as their star rb hasnt made it through a game yet.
and i agree on dv…while they are very good team..until dls gets beat there are unconditional #1
September 29th, 2009 at 8:59 am
Monte Vista will beat DLS by throwing the ball. Attack the DLS cornerbacks
September 29th, 2009 at 9:40 am
anonymous…remember one writer is not the only one voting…kind of silly to call one out for cal being ranked higher…in fact i think cal high is ranked right around where they should be, so it more has to do with washington not being voted by all the writers. while they didnt’ play a good game vs dv or tracy…the do have 2 quality wins, which is more than many teams in the top 15 can say…
it will all play out..
September 29th, 2009 at 10:48 am
What about OAKLAND. I feel they should easily be in the top 15 with all the talent they have
September 29th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Good List!
September 29th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
I can tell you right now, you get tired constantly voting DLS No. 1 every single week. At this point, you look at the 1-2 mark (yes, I realize who they lost to) and you say, what the hell — for one week, let’s vote someone else at the top. That’s not as bad as the voters who consistently way over-rank the small schools who in reality would not beat the 4-A schools. Trust me, for 16 years I sat in there and ran the poll votes. Sometimes I would get votes you would not believe, but was forced to go with them. The best system is for all the writers to make their votes public, right here on the blog. Make them accountable for how they vote and let everyone see. There are always homer votes — some so bad, it makes you laugh. Maybe this would be a fix. I offered and even did, in my last year, post my votes each week. I challenge the nine people voting on the poll to have the guts to list their votes each week…wadda ya say!!!!
September 29th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
DLS stays at the top of the EASTBAY list until an EASTBAY team beats them and that team will be Monte Vista
September 29th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I can agree that Logan is not in the top 15 due to 3 losses (though I do think they are one of the 10 best teams in the area), but if Logan is not in, then there in NO WAY Cal should be in. They lost to a Washington team who then got thumped by Deer Valley at home. Logan lost on a last second field goal to Deer Valley on the road.
September 29th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
yeah, Oakland may have the talent to be a ranked team, but you have to judge them based on what’s happened on the field. 28-6 loss to SRV means they can’t be ranked. And even though it was a forfeit loss, the loss to Burton has to be somewhat factored. That was a solid win over Campo, but to get ranked they need to roll through the OAL.
September 29th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
i agree with small school vs big school argument whistle…which is why probably should have a poll separated for each division…i understand then it looks like you are picking the playoff teams, but it still makes the most sense…
while i agree with the washington, cal high, deer valley poud papa…head to head is only true measure of teams…if you compare we played them tough but then they played them tougher it is a toss up…
for example cal high lost to DLS 14-7 last year. foothill got beat by DLS by 50 something points, but if i am not mistaken foothill beat cal high.. so if went off DLS argument cal high is 43 pts better than foothill yet they lost to them.
football is game of matchups and some teams match up better than others…look at what happened to cal vs oregon this weekend.
so then based on how you played MV, foothill, and DV you would have to say foothill is like 30 pts better than both MV and DV and that would be pretty crazy to argue. logan could have one both of those games but got blown out to foothill…so can’t ride the we played them tougher than them argument every time.
besides logan plays washington, no sense in arguing who is better they both will get a chance to prove it later in year.
September 29th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
kemp must be tough to practice this week knowing your leading da hornets 2 a slaughter! so when your d0wn 35 u still gonna run so cunningham can get his stats? i love ur linebackers’s do they also play badminton?
September 29th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
at some point u have to coach the players not the system after all u dont get to hand pick ur players
but u can change ur system 2 better suit ur players
September 29th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
The Whistle has a point. Make those who vote man up. It’s like the “suits” who vote for BCS teams, the ones that never watched a 12 – 0 Utah game last year so therefore never voted for them for a BCS Bowl game, thinking they played in a weak league. If we saw the thinking behind the voting, it would make for some very interesting dialogue.
September 29th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
ha Concord???? whats going on here guys???
September 29th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
A lot of people are predicting DLS to lose this year in league, but I have a feeling since they have lost 2 games already, they might be even tougher in league this year. Already looking forward to some great NCS match-ups this year.
Best of luck to the Oak Tech kid starting for Tampa Bay this week!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 7:42 am
@guru-black: first off, good luck this week if Berkeley is really a school you are associated with. I have respect for the Berkeley staff and have spoken with them and have a good relationship with everyone I have ever worked with in that unit. You don’t come across with the basic respect level of that group, so I would say you are definitely not a part of that staff. Also, being someone who is on an anonymous board consistently trying to call out a hard working basically volunteer HS coach must be really joyful thing for you, you really must take pride in that!!
When it comes down to it, I really could care less about whatever criticisms you try to put out on this board towards me or the players on my team, the fact of the matter is, we go to work every day and take pride in what we do. If we lose to a hard working team that did more than us to win, that’s the way it goes. But we work.
So, at the end of the day, man, back off. Your constant trolling of me on this board is not necessary and is not respectable. Being a constant hater of another man is not something to be proud of.
September 30th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Eastbayscout — I made that argument for two years before I left the paper that we should have two polls..Not fair for the smaller schools to have to be judged against the De La Salle, Monte Vista, Foothill, Pitt powerhouses…Give them their own poll and a chance at the top spot. Seems perfectly logical, which is probably the problem…
September 30th, 2009 at 9:15 am
kemp not criticisms they are facts! everyone watch come friday they’ll be losin by atleast 4 td’s but yet they’ll keep given cunningham the ball got 2 get his numbers. kemp how do you get blown out against your rivals? you guys had twice as many players plus all those returning players? kemp good luck goin 3-3 n league!
September 30th, 2009 at 10:55 am
kemp i remember you sayin this years team would be a playoff team u still stand by that statement?
September 30th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Hey Whistle,
Just because I kept voting OAL teams in the Top 5 doesn’t mean my votes were bad!

rickey galvan was amasing today in the first quarter vs alameda, 243 yards and three tds.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Galvin had that in one quarter?
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Galvin and b-high will take it a step further next week. This guy galvin will continue to put up those numbers and for the haters don blame it on the league. This kid has done it against some good talent this year ponderosa and pitt.Coach Carter has made sure b-high face some top caliber teams
October 3rd, 2009 at 12:03 am
Hey Bill Johnson,
Piedmont beat Drake and Dougherty Valley, both CIF division II bowl teams, and Piedmont is a D-III team, a lower division.
October 3rd, 2009 at 8:14 am
Oscibear,
Why are you bringing up State Bowls/Divisions with Piedmont? Their coaching staff has no intentions of getting there playing the teams they do in the non-league. Dougherty Valley & Drake are NCS d-III teams just like Piedmont & NOT VERY GOOD ONES. Dougherty Valley is a 2nd Varsity program who gave Piedmont all they can hadnle & Drake sucks. You get no respect out here Piedmont playing Laguna Beach & Kern Valley(especially when you lose). You want respect handle business in your area first. Play some good teams out here. You played Campo a good program a couple years ago & got blown out. Then instead of keeping that game going you dropped them. PLAY GOOD TEAMS!
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:15 am
Roeper,
Lies, Campo and Piedmont fulfilled both years of their contract, and then Drake played two years vs. Piedmont.
Flat our Liar, Roeper you are.
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 am
#5. Much respect to Galvin and Berkeley. They beat Pittsburg and that is impressive, but none of the other teams they have played are very good. I have no doubt they will win the ACCAL (terrible league), make playoffs, have a high seed and then lose either in quarters or semis. Three teams they can’t beat = Monte Vista, DLS, Deer Valley.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
The league is weak, cant take anything away from Berkeley, Coach Carter and his staff have done a great job with average kids, plus Rickey G, and has brought pride back to Berkeley High football. Wait and see rival games vs el cerrito, and pinole, will build team character, for hopefully playoff match-up with top three ranked schools. Mr. Eastbay. Very mature team, not scared of anybody, have to learn how to win like a champion! So that only leaves the mighty spartans, because, when has deer valley, and monte vista last won a championship? So I guess Berkeley is #4 now !
October 3rd, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Mr.east bay DLS is the powerhouse still so ru giving monte vista all the props now.Don’t speak so soon on counting berkeley out come playoff time berkeley will lineup with whoever they have to face.So Mr East bay u must b one of those nonbelievers
October 3rd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Wassup Bill, I never said we were going to beat Encinal. I said we would be competitive in the league and that just started, not very good the last 2 week i agree with ya, it’s been nasty. So we will have to wait and see as far as league goes. You go ahead and keep coaching through this internet, I listen to the things u say.
October 3rd, 2009 at 12:38 pm
You make some great points, So I will keep trying to prove you wrong!
October 3rd, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Rickey put up impressive numbers yesterday while playing with the flu. That is his heart, desire, and determination for the game of football. Those who don’t know Rickey Galvin = TRUE ATHLETE!
October 3rd, 2009 at 6:07 pm
BigGreen,You guys have a pretty good RB, QB combo. Your boys never quit. Nice game. Wasn’t coach hot in the Cowboy hat and gloves? Jet Pride!
October 3rd, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Oh and BigGreen.. St Pats will not win The BSAL. Jet pride!
October 3rd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
We beat a good Piedmont team today and remain undefeated on our new field.
St. Pats coming to town next week going to be big.
Panthers are back!
October 3rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Consider me a skeptic who is impressed. I’ll admit they’ve done better than I thought, although if Pitt doesn’t lose Dargan, I’m not sure Berkeley wins. I still don’t believe Berkeley is up there with the other three. Maybe the league season will prove me wrong about them or about the others.
October 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 pm
St. Pat’s not afraid to play. They will be a factor in the league and the playoffs. I think they are play off bound. Cudos to SMCHS- ex alumni. Jets watch out- these 2 teams are not going to roll over.
October 3rd, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Big Joe, I don’t believe any of those teams will roll over. St.Mary’s got a Great Head Coach but i just like my guys to go all the way. Jet Pride!

KillerD, you got the best posts on this board. I learn from you and it’s hard finding somebody picking these area games better than you.
Roll on.
October 4th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Hey OFMC. I have to say Encinal did a great job, and yes our D coordinator was upset, but at the same time our offense was the reason for alot of the scores, we did not do anything the way we should have. You guys blitzed us well, but I think our QB had some happy feet at times trying to roll when he cxould have set in the pocket after seeing the film, things were there for us, but we made bad decisions. But the Jets came and made plays, cause I think you would agree you guys were a bit sluggish to start off.
October 4th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Well BigGreen The Kids themselves said they were flat,So i do agree with you on that. But as you see we picked it up. I’m not trying to be funny but we could’ve played a lot better. And also we were still missing a couple of key pieces. Jet Pride!
October 5th, 2009 at 8:47 am
We are going to steamroll Piedmont by 50-points.
This game will be over at halftime, so don’t even bother showing up Piedmont fans.
Final score will be Jets 55 to Piedmont 0 or 7.
This game is already over, Piedmont just don’t know it yet.
October 5th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Hey ofmc please believe I know you guys did not play as well as you could have, and on the other hand, we did not even scratch the surface of what we can do, but at the same time you guys made the plays. But you know I like number 34 I like the way he plays!
October 5th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Good luck The rest of the way BigGreen. Jet Pride!
October 5th, 2009 at 10:14 am
Killer D
You are rolling! Did you already release you league by league breakdowns?
October 5th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Thanks Coach, and I wish you guys the best as well.
October 6th, 2009 at 11:30 am
i here all this talk about teams but where is oakland tech.. they are 4 and 1 their only lost coming to to pinole with a touchdown called back. they have one of the best defences in the bay area and palyed some good teams. Ryan murphy is a beast with 800 yards rushing in 4 games and diandre campbell catching everything. Their lokking even stronger on d with the 6’4 296 fred thompson clogging up the middle. tech is a team to look out for
