Are these statistics provided by independent sources or from the schools themselves. When I coached, I had to go over all the stats each game because my assistant coach kept padding the numbers of son’s tackles. I finally had to remove him from this duty. The same coach added “extra” hits during the baseball season. I know it’s sad that this happens, but it’s a fact of life I guess.

Nearly all the stats you see are provided by our reporters out at the games. We have a reporter at any game played locally, so the only time the stats are coming from the team is when they are playing out of town. And even then, sometimes we’re able to hook up with other newspapers to get stats from them.

you cant sell out football games can you
September 30th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Hey Mr. Durkin I think you should look at the tape and check the Carter kids receptions and yards because my research says he has 15 receptions for 327 yards. And the Romero kid has 175 recieving yards. Just bringing it to your attention because this site and the information on it plays a big part in some of these kids getting to the next level.

I don’t handle the MVAL stats, but I’ll let Michael Bower know. If the stats we had in our box scores were wrong, we take corrections from coaches via e-mail at prepscores@bayareanewsgroup.com.

Why doesn’t Newark Memorial just recruit for their boys football program like they do for boys basketball? Tip the scales in their favor like they have in varsity basketball? We all know that most of their star basketball talent comes from outside of their school districts boundaries. They have been getting away with these unethical tactics for years. How many of their varsity basketball players are from Newark?

it is the 2 catches for 48 yds against cal high according to newspaper stats that are still missing for carter.
and romero according to newspaper stats has 9 catches for 149 yds 1 TD.

Rust never sleeps and either do the recruiters from Newark Memorial High School boys basketball program. Ask any coach or AD from one of their MVAL rivals (Washington, American, Kennedy etc.) if they have had any basketball talent recruited away from their teams by Newark Memorial recently and you’ll get an ear full. Newark is currently trying to get a transfer (ringer) from Salesian who having played varsity basketball last season is required to sit out a season. That’s the rule. Washington High had an identical case last year. That player tried to appeal and it was denied. Wanna bet the Salesian transfer will be playing for Newark this season despite the rule that says he can’t? Their team is already stacked with (ringers) who have been recruited away from other high school from Fremont to Stockton. Enough is enough.

Sounds like james is one of those nonbelievers but like he who cares

I will get coach whitmer to send the stats in to that site because with 327 yards for Carter he is number three in the eastbay in recieving yards. People might want to go check him out. But thanks for the information Mr. Durkin.

The stats have now been corrected for both Washington receivers. Carter was not credited for two catches for 48 yards and Romero is up to 149 yards now. These numbers have been verified through the Washington coaching staff.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
It is possible that the newspaper was incorrect. Just asking because I was at the Washington and Cal high game and Carter had four catches. I’m sorry to nag but I just want to be sure everything is correct. Is it possible to send a tape in or something so you can verify?
October 1st, 2009 at 11:14 pm
I think I found the problem. Carter is only missing one more catch. In the newspaper against Cal high there is a catch for aprox. 25 yds credited to number 22. I believe that’s Carters other catch. Which would put him at 15 catches for about 324 yds which is close to what I said his stats were earlier. So I think you should check with the Washington coaching staff and see if number 22 got any catches against Cal High.
