Friday’s Tennyson-O’Dowd game is SOLD OUT

Word from Bishop O’Dowd is that Friday night’s 7 p.m. game between Tennyson and Bishop O’Dowd is sold out. THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE GATES, so if you don’t already possess a ticket bought during their pre-sale, you won’t be able to buy one at the game. The game is the first night football contest under the school’s newly installed lights.

Must not seat a lot of people!

  • Souz

If they still have the same seating, then no, their field doesnt hold alot of people.

  • NovatoDAD

    E-Culb,

Pernon is in hibernation especially after he lost to the Mighty Titans. Thats cheating. Hello… Let me guess coaches cant enter either right. How about the press? Do coaches have to become reporters or journalists now to keep the playing field fair. Don’t get me started. No no no…

  • TT

Talk about Home field advantage? Did Tennyson fans, friends and family get a chance to buy tix???? Wow!!! Desperate time cause for desperate measures…

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

I believe there was an allotment of tickets given to Tennyson.

  • billjohnson

peronon is lucky he’s n haal lots of terrible coaching n dat league! durkin they better not be ranked til they beat a quality opponent! i see bod goin 5-4-1.

  • Matt Rempel

I think O’Dowd should consider getting out of the HAAL.
HAAL could be the next MVAL, one very good team every year (San Leandro/Logan), a couple of decent ones (O’Dowd and Hayward/Newark and Washington), and over half really bad teams. I still think there are good coaches in the HAAL, (Bowers, Peranon, T. Smith) but with changing demographics and most teams in a very urbanized environment, it gets harder every year. Best of luck to eveyone as league kicks off.

  • tennyson

did you really unclude terry smith with those two other coaches??? what is your reason?? he’s not a bad guy… but from what ive seen there have been some stupid decisions made and the team has consistantly underachieved

  • descampmedia@gmail.com

Coach Smith is great coach he runs a good program at Tennyson….If he had the Athletes tht SL or BOD has or even Hayward then the Lancers would win 11 games a year…it jus tennyson is a soccer school with a lot of Hispanics

  • billjohnson

look at tennyson’s non-league that will let u know wat kind of coach he is! he’s been playin those scrub teams 4 years.

  • cash flow

Okay if u were Terry Smith….Who would you schedule….If u schedule a higher power u lose….I think it is smart to schedule low power b/c it puts his team in the best position to make it to NCS and This year it might damn well work…They will probably beat Bishop O’Dowd

  • billjohnson

that aint low power that’s bottom of the barrell!

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

And remember, Tennyson has NEVER made the NCS playoffs….EVER. They have nothing to prove by scheduling a strong nonleague. At this point, any schedule that would help them earn their first ever playoff appearance is acceptable.

  • cash flow

exactly they don’t have to prove anything to anybody….NCS isn’t the bcs they don’t have to go out of there way to schedule anybody….They are playin so thy can get into NCS

  • Tony G

Remember also, all Tennyson did was schedule team in their own division. No sense scheduling D-I opponents when you’re going to see them in league. Just look at Kennedy-Fremont. Same thing there, playing teams the same class as them.
When Smith took over Tennyson, he inherited a program that went a combined 1-27-2 the previous 3 seasons so obviously he’s doing something right.

  • Matt Rempel

All I know is that T. Smith puts his heart into that program, and I think he deserves a lot of credit. Its just a really tough area in that South Hayward vicinity. The kids are undisciplined and many are from disfunctional environments, not an excuse, just the reality of what he is dealing with.

  • descampmedia@gmail.com

Damn Right….Coach Smith does a lot for that Program and it is goin in the right direction…I am very proud to b a Tennyson Lancer…and it is very sad that people don’t recognize what Coach Smith runs at Tennyson….He is a role model for young men in the Haywatd Area and most of all he knows what he is doing…His knowledge of running the spread offense is unbelieveable…He would be a great college offensive cordinator

  • tennyson

Again… great guy however, there is talent at Tennyson and he maybe better then previous coaches but the fact of the matter is Tennyson underachieves, their offense isn’t cohesive(probaly because he lacks the knowledge of the spread to make the proper adjustments that is essential when facing certain defenses) which is a common mistake for many coaches attempting to run the spread( they see all these spread teams on TV and think its easy and tries to emulate certain parts of it but fails because you need to know the entire offense to run it. The defense is ususally a tell if a coach is doing a good job or not and tennyson’s defense has never beeen a good unit. Again, I’m talking about Terry Smith the Strategist or Coach, not the man.

IF BISHOP O DOWD LEFT THE HAYWARD AREA ATHLETIC LEAGUE THEN WHERE WOULD THEY GO? THE BSAL IS A JOKE TOO WEAK – ENCINAL IS THE BEST TEAM AND IF THEY WERE IN ACCAL THEY WOULD STILL BE LEAGUE CHAMPS. ALAMEDA, PINOLE AND EL CERRITO ARE MORE TALENTED THAN ALBANY, ST MARYS AND PIEDMONT – THE JETS BEAT UP ON SAINT PATRICK/SAINT VINCENT LIKE THEY SHOULD. ODOWD BEATS UP ON HORRIBLE TEAMS. ODOWD SHOULD PLAY DIV 3 TEAMS LIKE ENCINAL DOES JUST TO MAKE A BETTER SCHEDULE. I THINK THEY SHOULD COMPLETELY REOGRANIZE THAT BAY SHORE CONFERENCE AND MAKE 4 LEAGUES BASED ON ENROLLMENT

    AN ALL DIVISION 4/5 LEAGUE
    AN ALL DIVISION 3 LEAGUE
    AN ALL DIVISION 2 LEAGUE
AND AN OPEN LEAGUE THAT THE BEST CAN PLAY IN IF THEY WANT TO, LIKE THE CCS OPEN DIVISON

IM NOT A FAN OF RELEGATION AND PROMOTION, BUT SOME TEAMS MIGHT BENEFIT IF THIS SYSTEM INCORPORTATED IT.

BLOW UP THE ACCAL, HAAL, BSAL, BFL, AND ORGANIZE BETTER. ITS NOT ABOUT DISTANCE, SALESIAN HAS TO PLAY A SAN JOSE TEAM IN LEAGUE, ENCINAL A VALLEJO TEAM, ETC

JUST GIVE SAN LEANDRO BETTER COMPETITION WITH BERKELEY LIKE THEY SHOULD, AND ODOWD AND ENCINAL EACH OTHER. SALESIAN AND SPSV SHOULD PLAY IN LEAGUE. AND THE NOT SO STRONG TEAMS CAN CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES WHO THEY WANT TO SCHEDULE IN THIS PROPOSED SYSTEM

JUST A THOUGHT EVEN IF IM A NON FAN OF THE POOR PLAY THAT HAPPENS IN LOPSIDED LEAGUES NOWADAYS

  • shabawler

WORD Prep Fan..but check it – Encinal used to be in ACCAL, I don’t recall them being league champs when they were..Ever.. They could NOT win – so they left.. plain and simple..Don’t Sleep!

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

Encinal didn’t “leave” the ACCAL. They were reassigned by NCS. Encinal still wanted to be in and to this day would prefer to be in the ACCAL. Last year’s unbeaten season was more of a coincidence that it happened in their first year in the BSAL. I think they would have had a pretty good chance at going undefeated in the ACCAL last year. Their game with Berkeley — which would’ve been at Encinal — would’ve been a good game.

  • Souz

Tennyson: Its pretty hard to talk about a guy’s coaching ability until you step into his shoes. If you think Tennyson has under-achieved, then by all means go apply for a coaching position for football in the 2010-11.

Being the head coach of a high school football program in the area that Tennyson is in involves quite a bit more than X’s and O’s than you might think.

  • old former meddling coach.

Shabawler, Our last year in the ACCAL, 2007-08 The Jets Finished 9-3 making it to the semi’s in Div 3 Playoffs. I think Jimmy explained. We were moved,No one wanted to leave The ACCAL. Jet Pride!

  • shabawler

Much respect o’ Jimmy Durkin, thanks for clarifying..
Was school size the driving factor in that decision?? If so I can think of at least one team that should have been “reassigned” based on that criteria.
@Old Former Meddling Coach, I’m gonna go with Encinal WAS “reassigned” to the BSAL and say that it was Not so “plain and simple” as I previously stated, BUT I will go as far to say that it WASN’T “more of a coincidence” that they went unbeaten. And oh yeah, I woulda took Berkeley to win @Encinal in that hypothetical matchup – But all that don’t matter now does it?…Don’t Sleep!

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

Yeah, school size was the big factor. Every four years the NCS reviews all of its leagues and typically does at least some realigning based on school size and competitive equity. Encinal is in a weird spot where as a Div. 3 school they are bigger than most in the BSAL and smaller than most in the ACCAL. Competitively speaking, they would fit best in the ACCAL.

  • groundskeeper

According to cal preps BOD has one of the weakest schedules(power rankings) in the HAAL and are 0-2-1. BOD might not even make the playoffs this year. We’ll see how they do at their first night game at home tonight. If they don’t dominate Tennyson you can just about stick a fork in em.

  • descampmedia@gmail.com

from my sources Tennyson is up 35-6 at BOD can we say HAAL Contenders

  • descampmedia@gmail.com

I ment to say BOD is up…BOD not letting up

  • billjohnson

how can u tell me coach smith is doin a good job? o’dowd is a team that got blown out by s.i. & tied alameda who hasnt scored a touchdown until the 4th quater n back2 back weeks. eventually even if he can’t win why arent he’s teams atleast competitive? wats the excuse 2nite?

  • http://insidebayarea.com ROEPER

Unfortunatley O’Dowd will probably easily make the play-offs at D-III since they have to field 16 teams. Perenon paries in the HAAL. He’ll blow out teams like Tennyson, Arroyo, Mt. Eden, Castro Valley, & San Lorenzo easy putting up 60 points if he can. They’ll be 6-3-1 or 5-4-1 getting blown out by SL beating but maybe losing to Hayward High.
