Former SRV pitcher promoted to Major Leagues

Josh Butler, who graduated from San Ramon Valley High in 2003, will be added to the Milwaukee Brewers 40-man roster tomorrow and will suit up in for the team’s game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field tomorrow.

He was the East Bay Athletic League MVP in 2003 and a teammate of San Francisco Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz from 2001-2002.

He said he won’t pitch tomorrow, but could get a start as early as Friday, depending on the status of Manny Parra who has been dealing with neck spasms.

It’s a pretty cool story for me on a personal level as well. I grew up with Josh, played on the same little league baseball team, same youth soccer teams, CYO basketball teams and he has been one of my best friends since we were nine years old.

Butler was 9-3 between four different levels in the minors this year with a 2.97 era. He was drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft by Tampa Bay before being traded for outfielder Gabe Gross last year.
