Jimmy Durkin

I cover mostly San Jose State football for the San Jose Mercury News/Bay Area News Group, but also fill in from time to time with the 49ers, Warriors, A's and Giants.

  • tc

    no leaders from Miramonte anywhere?

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

Nope. James King was in the receiving leaders last week, but it was a big week for a lot of other receivers and he dropped out.

  • Panther Fan

Cheers for A. Prier! And a special shot out to Fox for advocating for a young man who deserves to have his name where he has earned for it to be. Impressive numbers Prier. And for all those non believers out there – let’s be clear. A Prier put up, I think, around 130 or 140 against SM. So he hasn’t just put up big numbers against weak comp. He is legit and only a Jr.

And did I mention he is West County alum?? Oh yeah, I did. Ooops. Spartan Pride! Lol. Sorry Jet’s had to bite ur rhymes. :-)

    Go Panthers!

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

Prier had 23 carries for 130 yards and a TD against St. Mary’s and 7 carries for 85 yards and two TDs against St. Patrick-St. Vincent, when he took over after starter Anthony Shorter suffered a season-ending injury. So Panther Fan is correct, he’s done well even when Salesian has played tough teams.

  • FOX

Thanks guys for recognizing a player from the BFL, Aaron Prier. Congrats to Chris Morgan from Berean Christian too. I can’t comment too much or Panther Fan will crack the case!LOL Tracking and entering stats for all these athletes has to be tedious, so thanks Jimmy and everyone else who supply the info for us.

    GO Ps! (:

  • Panther Fan

Fox – I think I got you, but I will wait to see if I am ryte.

Just imagine how good Anthony Shorter is people, if he was the starter in front of Prier. Shorter is a big, strong athlete who is a great football player. He would have made Salesian even stronger. And did I mention he played on our West County team?? Oh, my bad, I did. He was one of my O-lineman (I know, questionable coaching). We had to put him on the line, even though he could have been a skill player. He was just so much bigger and stronger than the other kids. Shorter – hang in there. Get healthy and who knows.

See Fox, as much as I love DBR – he ain’t my only interest. I’m a big fan of all these kids. And, of course of Fox!

    Go Panthers!

  • FOX

Shorter! Man, that guy is a beast. I saw him literally drag players down field. So strong! He’s a nice kid with a great family. I really hope he fully recovers. I’d love to see him play again.

Panther, after reading your post earlier, I realized just how much interest in you have in all the youth. And, the advice you gave that kid on line yesterday…..I have to watch my words, or you’ll really figure me out!

    Go Ps! (:

  • Panther Fan

Thanks Fox. I’m glad the way I truly feel is coming thru on these posts.

    Fox…hmmm..as in Silver(ado) Fox?? :-)

    Go Panthers!

  • ManDown

How does Encinal lead the bay in rushing yards but don’t have anybody in the top rushers? Either they share the wealth to everyone or its a typo. Thats insane.

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

No typo, they just spread the ball a lot. Jonathan Allen has 525, Tyrone Duckett has 523, Jon Trodder has 401, Kimani Washington has 266 and Matt Meno has 237. A few others have some yardage as well.

  • ManDown

Wow! Thats great for them. I havent heard of something like that where a team leads the bay in rushing but no one with over 550 yards rushing. You don’t see that now days.

  • http://httpn Fast and Physical

hey jimmy d checks the rushing stats of the 05 Mack team, rico thomas, terrance mccoy, willie grifin, stephen blackwell, and ishman anderson.

  • All Day

Fast and Physical, Willie Griffin ran track against some of my boys is he in school playing ball somewhere? Awesome talent.

Oakland Tech & Hayward vs Ygnacio Valley “whole game” now playing @ YVTV (goole)

  • http://ibabuzz.com/prepcorner Jimmy Durkin

    Fast And Physical,
Unfortunately I don’t think we have those records still around. Between us moving buildings, upgrading computers and moving to a new front-end system, I think a lot of files have been lost in the shuffle.

Also to Bhsfan, I’m still trying but haven’t been able to find that Coach Carter article yet.
