35-16 av its in the bag now
October 31st, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Looks like SRV played them close until the 2nd half. That is two great 2nd halfs in a row for the Dons. AV is in the driver’s seat for a #4 seed at NCS, which means a semi-final rematch with DLS if the seedings hold. It would be key to sneak into a #2 or #3 seed to avoid DLS until the finals, but both Deer Valley and Berkeley have been rolling along as well. I don’t know that AV is going to be able to move up with games against Livermore and an up-and-down Foothill remaining, unless DV or Berkeley somehow get knocked off.

is this game over?
October 31st, 2009 at 3:42 pm
It’s over. I left with about 3 minutes left.
Very, very sloppy game. At least 10 combined turnovers.
If SRV plays like it did today, Granada should beat them next week.

np SL scored and went for 2 which got them 50 crazy
October 31st, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Amador Valley had 7 yes _7_ turnovers in this game, including fumbling into the endzone while going in to score and having SRV recover for a touchback. They also fumbled on thier own 3 yard line and the defense held to only allow an SRV field goal. Defense was the star for Amador today, with 4 interceptions of thier own including a pick 6 for Matt Banahan (2nd in 2 weeks). I’m still trying to figure out how the Don’s won by 19 points with 7 turnovers in the game.
October 31st, 2009 at 4:22 pm
It was almost as if Amador was trying to give the game away, but San Ramon wouldn’t let them….

The football gods are on Amador Valley’s side this season. They are a good team but it also helps to have some luck.

7 TOs? Amador had zero turnovers last week to Cal’s 3, or they might not have won as that was akey tothat game. Maybe the football gods are on AV’s side this season, but it helps to be good. Not many teams can turn the ballover 7 times and still win convincingly.
October 31st, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Wow! SL BOD Barn burner!
October 31st, 2009 at 7:28 pm
O’Dowd SUCKS! They need a new coach. They sorry.
October 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
AV would be looking at a #3 seeding. If only Pitt had held on against DV last week.
Can you say DLS vs. Berkeley in the NCS D-I title game.

dutch b thats what b high has been working hard for, would b great to c
October 31st, 2009 at 8:10 pm
I think if AV gets seeded 4th. Their season will end in the semi-finals. But will they be 9-1 ? They still have to play Foothill in their finale. The Dons should win. But it is a crosstown rivalry game. So you never know what can happen.
If AV loses to the Falcons. That could allow Cal to move up. Assuming they win out. AV would be 8-2 and Cal 7-3. With Cal having a stronger strength of schedule.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:34 pm
You just can’t assume Cal will win out. That would include a wins over both MV and DLS on the road. Quite a feat. If Cal somehow wins out and AV loses to Foothill, Cal would be the EBAL champs and DeLa giant killer, and would almost certainly get a higher seeding than AV. They might even move right past DeLa having just beaten them head to head and having identical records. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Cal is looking forward to playing MV this week, and will worry about NCS seedings and DeLa later.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:19 pm
FYI…AV is ranked # 24 in the state…DeLa #7. AV beat Cal, MV, SR and played DeLa close.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:08 am
But even a 6-4 Cal team could get a higher seed than an 8-2 AV team (One that would have just lost to Foothill). As Cal will have had a stronger strength of schedule.
The Grizzlies lost to Washington (6-2), 30-28. Then Del Oro (7-1), 28-21. Washington will be an NCS D-I team and could be the MVAL champs. Del Oro are in the thick of the Sierra Foothill League race. Are also a highly touted SJS D-II power. Remember SJS D-II is sronger than SJS D-I this year (Grant the defending state champs are also SJS D-II).
Meanwhile AV beat Freedom (0-8); Mt. Eden (1-7) and Del Norte (2-5) in non-league play. The Dons have done well in league play. Including a 35-24 win over Cal. Though it took a big 4th quarter to decide that game. AV also stood to-to-toe with DLS, before losing 32-21. Plus beat Monte Vista in overtime, 24-21. Though how good the Mustangs are. Is really questionable now. Being that they are only 5-3 (2-3 in league).
So if AV were to beat Livermore, but lose to Foothill. While Cal beat Monte Vista, but lost to DLS. AV would be 8-2 overall and 5-2 in league. While Cal would be 6-4 and 5-2 in league.
For starters Cal will have defeated Foothill, 45-24. Plus played pretty even with AV…until the 4th quarter. With the possibility that 3 of their 4-losses being against league champs (Washington; Del Oro and DLS). Alot could depend on how well they play against DLS. As when AV lost against DLS. AV had a lead entering the 4th quarter. So if Cal plays well against DLS. This scenario could be in Cal’s favor over AV, as far as playoff seedings go.
A.) AV will have just lost to an inconsisent Foothill team.
B.) Cal will have played quite respectably against DLS, late in the season to boot.
C.) Cal played pretty close with AV earlier.
D.) Cal’s non-league losses. Far outweigh AV’s non-league wins against cupcakes.
E.) Cal will have two more losses than AV. But the difference would be the two quality opponents that Cal lost to in non-league play. Losses that were extremely close.
So if this plays out. I think NCS has to seed Cal higher than AV.

was at the av vs sr game today. Stancil played well, great leader, but Berkeley would smack them, too many athletes, too much team speed. Then I caught two quarters of the sl vs bod game, nobody played any D, Berkeley would smack SL, fly sweep; come on Bowers doesn’t have the line or skilled guys, very average. Note: Spotted the real coach carter, and one of his assistants, scouting with foothill, granada, and mv, coaches, sitting at the sr game, a site to be remembered, Run Rickey Run, Go Jackets! check his stats Jimmy D, he had 234 friday, totals were off, in quest of 2000
November 1st, 2009 at 3:22 am
Jimmy D Galvin should be at 1773. Please look into that guys, Thank you

Hey Dutch,
Its great to speculate, but better to actually play the games. It is much more likely at this point that AV win out than Cal athough I appreciate your optimistic approach. #1 tie-breaker in NCS is head to head and regardless of how you qualify your strength of schedule. All of the would have, could have, lucky etc…. means nothing as AV _beat_ Cal plain and simple.
As far as AV competing with Berkeley. I don’t think Berkeley is well prepared for the playoffs having played a very weak schedule. There are a lot more “athletes” then Fast and Physical is aware. Amador shut down George Atkinson II for -20 yards for thier game with Granada and they had a pretty good QB at the time to balance the running game. Atkinson just put up ~180 yards on DeLa with out their starting QB who is out for the season.
AV is capable of shutting down Galvin. We’ll have to see if they meet in the playoffs. I do not think Berkeley will get to the championship game in any event.

ebal1
av has a good team, but don’t get to far of yourself. berkeley is big, fast, physical,no one plays boths ways ,and well coached, have faith in your team but don’t look to far into the future!!!!
November 1st, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I agree with ebal1 in the Cal vs AV issue. All of what Dutch said about the scheduling is right on, but there is no way an 8-2 team would get seeded below at 6-4 team that it beat.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:02 pm
I hope Cal gets in the playoffs. They are too good not to go.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:07 pm
I agree. AV should be seeded ahead of Cal, unless Cal somehow beats DLS (& MV). Then you would have three 6-1 EBAL teams that beat each other and schedule strength is a definite factor, in which case AV would be last of the 3. Most likely won’t happen, but Cal played DLS tough last year, and played AV tough this year. And AV played DLS tough this year, so you never know. I’ll be pulling for them, but it is a long shot.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:07 pm
atkinson had MAYBE 30 total yards (including kick returns) vs DLS starters.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Outsider, there is no doubt that Cal is already in the playoffs. They have qualified with 5 wins, and have 2 blowout wins over SRV and Foothill, who will also both make the field. With the new format this year, it looks like they will be taking all qualifiers up to 16, and there will only be 13 or 14 that qualify.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Cal shut Atkinson down as well. He had a good game against Foothill early on, but the teams with better run defense (AV, DLS, CAL) have handled him with ease.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:12 pm
How does the seeding affect who plays whom in the playoffs? Is is strictly a high seed vs. a low seed or is it drawn from a hat?
November 1st, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Strictly high seed vs. low seed, unless there is an odd number of teams. If there are 14, then the top two would have byes, and 3 would play 14, 4 vs. 13, 5 vs. 12, etc. They will set it up so there are 8 teams remaining after round 1.
November 1st, 2009 at 5:44 pm
It is high seed vs low seed with league champs, even if they are lower seed, having home field advantage until the semi finals
November 1st, 2009 at 5:58 pm
ebal1 most of atkinson’s yards came in the second half against the second and third string of DLS. granada coach kept his starters in the whole way. granada had under seventy five yards of total offense in the first half. de la reserves were in starting halfway thru the second quarter. so yes he got yards but by no means should that be used as an indicator. Atkinson is very fast but he is not a guy who does well with contact. take the two DLS backs ward and anderson. atkinson beat them both at the track meets last year in the 100 and 200. but when you watch them play ward and anderson get hit but they still grind out yards and even break free for the td’s. anderson’s td against lakeland in the second quarter was a prime example when he knocked a defender over and kept going 40 yards for the score. atkinson doesn’t seem to have that ability. the moment he gets hit he doesn’t go very far. just my take on him. atkinson might beat ward or galvin in a foot race but when it comes to playing football he is not at the same level.
November 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
#49 i agree. not very physical
November 1st, 2009 at 7:50 pm
ya i don’t want my last comment to seem like i’m saying the kid isn’t a very good athlete i just don’t think he is that great of a football player. he had good games against foothill and mv but those are the two worst rush defenses in the league. but the kid is lightning fast will not argue that. he should play wide receiver imho.
November 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
yeah wide out would b good, very very fast, with some size too
