Thanks Jimmy D!

Wow! It looks like Duckett is the best “Back” in the BSAL. 63 carries for 632 yards. Damn near 10 yards a carry.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Duckett’s gotta have that BSAL MVP in the bag at this point.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:46 am
Guru and HitStick,
Ducket has an impressive average per carry, but best back and MVP? I’m going to have to go with PantherFan’s DBR. DBR has more than twice the total yardage than Duckett, leads the league in rushing by over 500 yards, leads the league in scoring by 17 and has 6 more scores than Duckett. Duckett is only 25% of Encinal’s rushing yardage. Duckett leads in only one catagory. Sorry best back and MVP is easily DBR!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Sean M, I Agree and disagree DBR has great numbers,And is a large Part of St.Mary’s Success and his numbers are greater than Duckett’s but keep in Mind that Duckett Runs the Offense and is Directly Responsible for it’s overall production. While his number are not high as a passer or as a rusher his Value is in making a key throw or run at the right time.Is that what a MVP is? I think so. We have at least 4 backs who could all be thousand yard rushers if we gave anyone one of them the bulk of the carries.(Don’t forget he is also a hard hitting safety.) But i have to admit i am somewhat biased but that is because i see him play week in, week out. But i guess we’ll leave it up to whoever Votes on it. I’m sure it will be fair. Jet Pride!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Ummm Jimmy D. I was in attendance at the moreau vs piedmont game, and something may be wrong on your stats. The decent Qb Robinson for moreau threw for two td’s and a pick these stats need to be updated on ur blog.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Coach I think Duckett will win the MVP as well. Last year Blake Wayne was the EBAL MVP, much to the chagrin of the SRV fans who felt that Southwick should have been given the honor. Looking at the numbers, Southwick was hands down the best player. But looking at the little things and the clutch plays Wayne produced when they were needed most is what made him an MVP. Plus it never hurts to be on the league champs.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:10 am
The EBAL is a different animal because it has a longstanding tradition of ALWAYS giving the MVP award to the best player on the league champion team. That’s why Terron Ward can already start clearing out room on his trophy case and guys like Brett Nottingham and Sean Mannion are probably out of the running. It’s just how the EBAL does it.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Good discussion. Nice to see fair, reasonable points being made. I would love to chime in.
Tyronne Duckett is the BSAL MVP. I have posted this before and will break down my reasons
1. He is the best player on Encinal’s team. Encinal is the league champ. To me that is the definition of league MVP.
2. He is a QB. He is the team leader and everything goes thru him. Encinal’s high powered offense starts with his direction and great decision making.
3. He plays both ways. No one talks about what a great safety he is. He is essentially the QB of the secondary as well.
4. In a head to head match-up, he almost single handedly beat SM. DBR didn’t have as many opportunities as he did (only 16 carries) due to Encinal’s ball control game plan, but the results are the results.
I think these points make the decision clear. DBR, in my biased opinion is clearly the best back in the league, but not the MVP. I will let others speak to his season performance, but either way we are talking about 2 great players who have led their teams admirably.
Go Panthers!
November 5th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Well was not aware of that Jimmy, unlike last year though I think it would be fair to say that Ward has been the best player throughout league play in the EBAL this year.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Definitely. What Ward did against Monte Vista alone makes him worthy, regardless of how the EBAL decides its MVP.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
jimmy who do you think will be east bay player of the year? will playoffs count towards it?
November 5th, 2009 at 11:47 am
I must confess I have only seen DBR play and was just comparing stats. I respect OFM Coach and PantherFan, you both made very good points. I didn’t know he ran the offense. When you see their impressive offensive stats then the guy that makes that go deserves MVP. I will get to see Duckett and the vaunted Encinal team up close when they play Moreau next week.
Moreau still in the hunt for a playoff spot, but two tough games ahead. Go Mariners!
November 5th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Playoffs definitely count. What Jonathan Brown did for Encinal in the NCS title game was a big factor in his being named Player of the Year in 2008.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Yeah, what happens in the postseason will go a long way to determining our POY. As Kyle said, Jonathan Brown basically won the award last year with his title game performance (obviously everything he did up to that point put him in contention and then that clinched it). That being the case, it’s really too early to say who I think will win it. I know Rickey Galvin will be a candidate.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Dagasman,
I’ll check with my BSAL stat guy.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Stats for Moreau’s Robinson are correct he went into that game with 10 tds & 5 picks
November 5th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
His stats were fixed. In the original posting, it still listed him with 10 and 5.
November 5th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
I meant to speak to Duckett’s passing. He is a very good passer. He makes timely throws and if that were the “intent” of Tenorio’s offense, I am sure he would do fine. It isn’t that he can’t pass, but why would they pass a lot? Their O-line is a lot bigger than most of the BSAL D-lines, their RB’s and Duckett are a lot bigger than most BSAL defenders. It is a power running offense and that is what it should be. I thought of this, because I have seen a lot of posts questioning his throwing ability.
There were 2 throws this young man made in the game against us that were beautiful. One was the first TD. He must have thrown in 40 yards – perfect, tight spiral to the back of the end zone, after scrambling to buy time. The second throw was 20 – 30 yd TD on the money with a defender right in his face. He took the shot and delivered a perfect pass.
Just wanted to put the “throwing issue” myth to bed. Any team in the D3 playoffs that thinks they can shut down the run and stop Encinal is making a mistake.
Go Panthers!

Sean M,Is this the Sean who brought back the All star game?
November 6th, 2009 at 8:57 am
OFM Coach,
I am not the Sean that brought back the All star game. Sorry, just a Moreau dad.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:16 am
I would love to see Nottingham as EBAL MVP. 26 TD’s to 5 picks with a 68% completion percentage. He has been a true joy to watch this season. I will hope to see him playing sooner rather then later on Saturdays for UCLA.
And if Duckett was anymore explosive he’d need a warning label. Coach T has always done a great job of giving his playmakers and opportunity to make plays. And in this case keeping Duckett at QB will prove lethal for opponents come play off time. All I can say is MVP? DEFINITELY!
November 6th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Duckett is the MVP of this league hands down. The guy has had great games against all the good teams they played this year. And I believe the guy just scored 6 tds in each win the last 2 weeks against the BSAL top teams. He plays both ways and DBR is only an offense guy. To be honest I think the RBs from Encinal will get 1,000 yards rushing if the had 209 attempts. Those guys share carries. He has more attempts than the top two rushers for Encinal.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:51 am
I seen Mr. Duckett at two games this year. Serra and St. Marys and the guy is flat out GOOD. His game on offense is equality as good on D. He is one of the best players in the Bay Area for sure.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Mandown – With respect, this is not a “hands down” MVP race. I have already posted that I believe it is Duckett’s award, but “hands down”, no. That suggests that it is not close. I don’t know how anyone who has followed the BSAL could come to that conclusion.
You bring up carries as if that is a bad thing. 209 carries is a serious work load. That speaks to strength, conditioning and having the responsibility of leading your team. It also speaks to his ability when the whole stadium knows he is getting the ball and he still makes plays. I’m sure my Jet friends will back this up, as they watched most of our games and therefore game planned to keep the ball away from him. Ofm Coach – can I get some back-up? The amount of carries is impressive. Who is to say other backs could handle that work load? It is impressive not a knock against him. I can’t see the logic in looking down on amount of carries.
The stats above are really not BSAL stats. They are overall stats. Let’s look at the league games.
V. Piedmont 33 carries for 260 and 2 TD’s
V. SVSP 37 carries for 188 and 2 TD’s
v. MC 15 carries for 202 and 4 TD’s
v. Encinal 16 carries for 74 and 1 TD
v. Swett 24 carries for 285 and 2 TD’s
League Totals 125 carries for 1,009 and 11 TD’s
That is an avg. of 25 carries for 202 yds and 2 TD’s per game in LEAGUE PLAY. The award is for BSAL MVP. If there is anyone out there who thinks DBR is not in the discussion, they have not followed the league games. I guarantee you the coaches from each team have him in the discussion.
I was hoping someone else would speak on his behalf as being deserving of considetation, but I guess it was up to his biggest fan to do so.
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
And I forgot one thing. He IS a defensive player. He was an All League CB last year. He sacrificed playing D this year to offset the serious work load Coach has placed upon him.
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I’m not knocking the guy and his talent at all. I think he is a good RB but my point is that if you give those RBs that amount of carries they would have the same success that he has had. Thats all I am saying. He is a good player but like you said “He sacrificed playing D so he can focus on offense” and one thing about Encinal MOST of there players play both sides of the ball and I think it is a hard thing to go from playing D all game and go back in the huddle on Offense.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Mandown – I was not suggesting that you are knocking him at all. I didn’t get that out of your comments.
He did not make the choice not to play defense. He wanted to badly. It kills him not to play defense. He was asked to carry the load on offense and has done so, because he is a team player. Most of SM players play both ways as well. It is surely hard to do. Just as carrying the ball 25-35 times a game and taking that beating game in and game out is. My point, is that should not be dismissed or viewed as a point against him. Anyone who has played and carried that kind of load would know that.
You suggest that the other RB’s would have the same success. That is speculation. Just as I would not say they would NOT have the same success, you can’t say they would. If there weren’t four different Encinal backs a defense had to worry about the opposing defenses could key on 1. That might affect their success. It might not. It is not apples to apples. DBR has put up huge numbers. He has done what he has been asked to do and been a major reason his team fought for a league championship.
Again, I am not suggesting that he is the league MVP. In fact, I believe I was the first to post (after Encinal beat SM) that Duckett was. I am suggesting that DBR is clearly in the discussion and that it is not a “slam dunk.”
Just my opinion. Thanks for your thoughts Mandown.
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Hey PantherFan,
I was the first to say I thought DBR was the MVP and that his stats were outstanding compared to the rest of the league…and I am a Moreau fan!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
panther fan the only stat that matters is the W. duckett outplayed brown-ryan when they met & duckett made him fumble. HandsDown duckett is the MVP!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Sean M – Yes you did. And I was the first one to disagree. Lol. But thanks for the shot out.
Guru – Do you read? You are the one who started this discussion genius. You brought up Duckett’s NUMBERS. You didn’t bring up his wins and losses. But I know putting together one coherant sentance is tough for you, let alone 3 or 4. Read your own post #2. While you are at it READ my post #’s 9, 19, 25 and 28. In every one I gave Duckett major props. What insecurities you must have that you can’t give anyone not on Encinal’s team props? It kind of reminds me of a guy who carries a large pen, trying to compensate for something else that might not be up to size. Hello!
“Outplayed him.” Duckett had the ball in his hands all game. DBR touched it 16 times. The hit that caused the fumble was awesome. He put his hat right on the ball. It also caused a TD, by the way.
By the way. Guru, the MVP is for the entire league season. It is not based on 1 game. Again, because reading comprehension is such a struggle for you let me assist. My ONLY point here is that it is clearly a 2 man race. I hope Coach Joe is right and you did play for Encinal. If you are just some numnutz who spews the stuff you do and never laced ‘em up – that would be sad.
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
panther fan he only got the ball 16 times cuz he was gettin stuffed #28 from encinal slammed him on his back.the BEST players in high school play both ways! wasnt that the most important game of the year? duckett had 12 carries for 190. i remmember ur son last year he couldnt cover milton in a phone booth.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Guru – Everyone on this blog has so much respect for you posts.
DBR’s numbers and resume speaks for itself. I wonder what you resume is. Lol. Where are you playing?
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
panther fan so i’m supposed to be impressed by his games against swett & moreau? best runningback in the encinal-st.mary’s game was #32 for encinal.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Guru – Impressing you is the last of anyone’s concern. You are only impressed by guys who wear blue. What are you a Guru of? Jocking good high school players? Lol
Check it out Gu. You are the only person at Encinal who doesn’t respect DBR – or any other opposing player. That is how I know you never played at any high level. And you cetainly never had 1300yds against Swett or anyone else.
We know you aren’t playing now, cuz it’s 4 pm and you are in front of your puter going back and forth between this blog and jobginder.com probably
Good luck.
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Guru,
Handsdown Duckett is MVP based on one game? MVP is based on the season in league. I don’t know what Duckett’s stats are for that game, but if you look at the stats PantherFan provided for DBR in that game he averaged 4.6 yards a carry and a TD. What have other backs averaged against Encinal? Since Encinal has the number one defense in the League DBR’s stats are still impressive. DBR stats for the season stack up very well and in most cases he has better stats than Duckett. So I am with PantherFan on this one, maybe Duckett is the MVP, but hands down I don’t think so.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
panther fan it took u to come on here talkin bout ur son nobody ever brought him up. he didnt start til his senior year. he’s not a bad player but he ain’t know duckett.tell him to get use to second. second in league & second to duckett in mvp.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
sean m arent u the guy who said moreau was a good team? there terrible!
November 6th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Guru – You are hysterical I will give you that. Google DBR and see how many articles you find on him. I don’t need to promote him – he does a fine job of that himself.
He started and made All League last year He should get second in the MVP voting. That is fine. He is first in quite a bit of other things. What have you ever been first in? I guarantee you if everyone on this blog voted on posts – you wouldn’t come in first in thought provoking posting. You can’t hang with Me Gu – your rhymes ain’t got enough flavor.
By the way, did your cheerleading career start in Pop Warner? Maybe you could do us all a favor and post a photo of you in your blue and white cheer dress with your pom poms.
I’m sure people are getting bored with our banter. As my mom always told me – “Let the asshole have the last word.”
Don’t trip Gu. I’m sure you are hella tight on Madden though
Go Panthers!
November 6th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
panther fan we all know y kids go to private school can’t hang in public. ur probably a typical uncle tom stay black homie!
November 6th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Hey Panther Fan, Instead of going back and forth you should just copy/paste one of your previous postings. How about this one:
That is an avg. of 25 carries for 202 yds and 2 TD’s per game in LEAGUE PLAY. The award is for BSAL MVP. If there is anyone out there who thinks DBR is not in the discussion, they have not followed the league games. I guarantee you the coaches from each team have him in the discussion.
Go Ps!
November 6th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Sometimes these professional bloggers go too far. Kinda rude and vicious too.

Fox – I could’t help myself. It was too fun. Especially how he ended it. Lol. The quote from my mom and his last post was priceless, right?
Thanks Fox. I’m not quite mature enough I guess. I still love the court jester, bafoon type. I guess it is my sophmoric sense of humor. I guess it’s my public school education.

November 6th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Guru,
Yes I did say Moreau was good…and so have some others. Guru scroll back up and look at the stats…Moreau has someone in each of league leading catagories. Look at team offensive and defensive catagories Moreau is fifth in offense but they are only a few yards shy of 4th and 115 years shy of 3rd best offense. Moreau is third in defense even after a couple of big losses to SM and Piedmont. Moreau has nothing to be ashamed of, every loss was to a very good team, every loss was to a winning team, and each of those teams is probably going to the playoffs…no shame in that. Moreau is building a successful program and you don’t just go from 0-10 to 10-0. Right now Moreau still has a chance to make NCS after 8 games, I think that is impressive considering they were 0-10 last year. Terrible…not even close, are they the best team obviously not but still a very good team and I would say the most improved team in the league.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Sean M – He gets tired of writing more than 20 words in one sitting. And, at this point, he has read well over his usual brain intake can manage.
Be easy on the facts and stats – that tends to reduce him to personal grovelings.
Dumb just doesn’t give justice to a boy/man/undeclared who would step inside the Verbal Coliseum to face Maximus armed with and undersized pen as a sword. (See previous insecurity ref).
Fox – If Gu is professional he is under payed at yet another of his hobbies. He is what we would call on my set – “A Professional Hater.”.
Go Panthers! And Go Haters!

Sean M, I’m a Former Encinal Parent (2009 Grad) But i can say i’m glad to see Moreau Doing well this year. Jet Pride!
November 6th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
DBR is a good back and does deserve to be in any league MVP discussion. Jet Pride!
November 6th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Duckett will win MVP. He has college talent. Better offensive player than on defense from what I saw.Panther Fan, I see guru is still hating. Poor selections of comments as usual. When your kids and mine graduate from college and they become his kid’s
bosses, I guess that will be our fault too. I don’t think he has kids. I think he is a mis-guided adult who thinks like a kid. Good luck the rest of the season, I can’t keep reading those type of comments from a few who never played any successful football and don’t get the relationship about sports and a good education.

Ofm Coach – Thank you brother. As always, you are fair with your comments. I WILL get to a playoff game to cheer for our BSAL brethren (assuming our games are not played at the same day/time).
Donut – LOL! That was funny with the ACCAL thing. Haha! Good stuff. By the way, who is the kid from Salesian? And what about Aaron Prier?
What a great HS football season we just wrapped up. Congratulations to all the coaches, players, trainers, fans (students, parents and extended family),refs :-/, and leagues. The season was filled with many moments that our young people will take with them for a lifetime. That is the true essense and beauty of why they compete. The season journey has reached it’s moment of pause before the “second season” begins. That is, as we all know, the most difficult and demanding portion of the quest. All the stats and records are mute. Anything can happen. Anyone can shine. Good luck to EVERY team, player and coach.
Carpe Deim (Seize the Day)!
Embrace the moment young people and don’t be afraid to be great!
In the words of a another great, modern, American philosopher Johnny Blaze (aka Method Man) “I call my boy Sun, ‘cuz he shines like one..”

Fox – No he sat out to rest up for the playoff run. Isaac filled in for him and did great! The O-line was awesome last night as well! Lovett was untouchable. Naj probably had 6 TD’s, but penalties wiped out 3 of them. He was just moving at another gear than everyone else on the field.
Donut – I know who you are talking about. That kid is huge. Cal already offered? That is wonderful if that is true.
Go Panthers!

Guru, grow up dude. Really you have to be a loser to post things that you have posted. It’s immature how you are acting and if you’re an adult you should feel like sh**
