Live from Tak Fudenna Stadium on the campus of Washington High School in Fremont, James Logan (6-3, 4-0 MVAL) vs Washington (6-2, 4-0). It’s what amounts to the championship game of the Mission Valley Athletic League.

wow what happened to poor Freedom??? When was the last time an NCS team went 0-10? that isnt Liberty or Livermore or Dublin… I guess they have one more chance but thats too bad thought they were better but they lost all that loaded talent runner, gupton, rodriguez..
on the other hand of the BVAL Deer Valley goes 10-0. nobody else can do that in that league. DV did it once again in 06. when Foothill went 10-0 too. MV 10-0 in 05. in 07 DLS was 10-0. Does Berkeleys 10-0 match up to these?

the playoffs shall tell the tell, berkeley have lots of haters and thats just more motivation. best defense, they are big fast and very physical. remember defense wins championships

I don’t think there are a lot of Berkeley haters, at least not me, I just wonder if this team is so good, why they aren’t scheduling any competition? I’d love to see the Jackets in some of these prime east bay matchups, but we just aren’t seeing it.
Best of luck in the playoffs.

Matt,
Who do you want them to schedule? They scheduled the defending NCS Division I runner up in Pittsburg, a Ponderosa team in a showcase event that was ranked in the preseason by the Sac Bee, a Freedom team that went 10-2 last year and finished up a two-year contract with a Division I team in Castro Valley. On paper, that was a pretty tough nonleague schedule, maybe Castro Valley excluded but at the time of that being set up CV was coached by a former Zo assistant who was a Berkeley alum so you can understand why that made the schedule. It’s not their fault Ponderosa and Freedom have had such bad seasons and that Pitt isn’t quite as good as its been the past decade. And obviously they have no say over their ACCAL schedule. You can say that their schedule isn’t that tough, but you can’t call out Berkeley for their “scheduling.” Their intent was to play a tough preseason, but unfortunately their opponents didn’t live up to their end of the bargain.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWER TO MATT. MAYBE THE REST OF THE MEDIA AREA WILL GET OFF THAT BANDWAGON.

they need to play ebal teams even San Leandro played EBAL and WCAL teams
November 7th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
anybody could go 10-0 with berkeleys schedules over the past 2-3 years.
i bet foothill, monte vista, cal high, san leandro would all be undefeated with the same 09 jacket schedule. its just a joke they need to build up their s.o.s. consistently before they can earn the respect they want and in my opinion dont quite deserve yet until they win a post season game and schedule a non league including a lot of good teams. its not hard to figure out, why do other programs schedule ahead good teams and berkeley can;t?

#4 My problem with the B-HIgh schedule started in 2008 when they dropped Deer Valley & Foothill from their schedule. Those are teams that B-HIgh should always play especially considering how weak their league is always gonna be. Top team from the EBAL & BVAL. The only real game with Encinal leaving in the ACCAL in 2007 was Pinole Valley for 2008. Choosing Castlemont (which kind of back fired on Carter I think he thought that game would have meant more) & Casro Valley over Foothill & Deer Valley gets no respect. Always gonna get 3 easy wins Richmond, Hercules, DA.
Don’t know the deal with Ponderosa I think thats the only game they could find. But Freedom was gonna be real down. SHould of definitely dropped CV. CV would have had no problem with it.
November 7th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
I agree but the fans think if they havent played the best in the BVAL and EBAL that those leagues are just full of themselves.
Yeah they should get San Leandro instead and re align their league. but that wont happen so they should keep scheduling BVAL teams and get that West County vs East County match ups more often. I guess they dont have to play an EBAL team cuz they dont want to, but any other MVAL team or something would do!

DOUNUT /ROEPER
who said berkeley drop deervalley/foothill from their schedule, maybe those teams after the contracts ended decided to play other teams. Most contracts are for two seasons (home-away) ponderosa was a one year deal.
cv.contract up. I am sure they will be replace with another d1 playoff program. PLEASE REFER TO #4 JIMMY DURKIN!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
oh yeah sorry that was contract. you’re right. who would you choose instead of Castro Valley Jacket Fan?
I would select San Leandro beacause its a great HAAL/ACCAL matchup and two Division one playoff teams always. berkeley runs their league so does san leandro.
in the bval, its a toss up most years pittsburg runs that league and you guys had a great win, this year and in 06 deer valley runs the bval so they are the top 2 teams in bval.. freedom was an aberration they are never that good last year was their miracle year they are a mediocre team not as big as Pitt or DV and not as taleneted year in year out..
November 7th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
You are right Jimmy, it just never seems like Berkeley is in any of these big games going on week after week. But luckily the playoffs are just around the corner!!!
(Just don’t be so defensive all you Berkeley fans….kidding)

Hey Matt, who won the Helmet Game and what was the score?
November 7th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
hey anyone know who won the Concord-YV game? loved the smack talk between the two sides leading in.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
It’s final.
Irvington is officially the worst team in the MVAL.
At least Irvington is dumping their AD, Jeff Fern.
The next step is to dump the principal Pete Murchison.
Between Murchison and Fern, they totally destroyed the Irvington football program.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Newark went 0-10 back in 2005, and Mission San Jose of Fremont should have went 0-10 last year, but they got a forfeit win making them 1-9.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
donut if possible 1)grant 2) long beach poly 3) texas 5A champion. what do you think?
November 7th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Hey gang I just wanted to chime in. Renewing the Deer Valley Contract was not an option. (AD’s decision not Carter’s) due to the heated conversation that almost became almost became physical between the head coaches after DV was kept out of the playoffs in 07. Pittsburg was an upgrade over Castlemont this year. Castro Valley is on the last year of their contract. And as for Ponderosa, They were not supposed to be the opponent. That was supposed to be an invitational sponsored by nike. The other team I wanna say was from San Luis Obispo pulled out. Carter Had to fill the spot last minute. So he did with one of the other teams from the invitational.
But you gotta give the guy a break. He’s coming to the big time from the OAL. And what no one understands is that you’re all demanding that he keeps a front loaded schedule EVERY SINGLE YEAR. If he loses he teams in no good in your eyes and if he gives his team a cream puff as many of your teams do to start the season his teams are untested and his team is no good. See the dilemma?
November 7th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
berkeley is a good team, no question about that. how good remains to be seen. they will get their opportunity to show how good they are in the playoffs.
November 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
wannaknow, you know,thanks
November 7th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Lots of teams WANTED OR BEGGED to play Berkeley BEFORE Carter got the job.
Now, lots and lots of coaches Avoid Playing Berkeley at all costs.
Guy cannot catch a break, he is a very good coach.
November 7th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
killerd great statement, teams dodged him when he was at mack

#18 I totally agree with you. that is true. thanks for all the clear up.
really? im sorry i thought that was sarcastic at first, but berkeley grant would be a huge game this year between galvin and their rb. also, that 5A champ Katy I think beat Bellevue this year, a team Grant also beat. those are some good teams you got. i am a believer now its pretty clear to me the truth about berkley and everything wannaknow has informed about.
as for Poly, I love that idea. Pitt played them in 04 (replace the dls rivalry game back then in bval) it was a good idea 28-14 poly but good game and showed pitt could go down to veterans stadium and compete.
i gotta say that impresses me. if they had a huge match like that with galvin, i would let everybody know how special that kid is. but NCS is right around the corner and believe me i’ll be there watching the games each time. hopefully i can make as many as possible i love playoffs but definitely the matchups between berkeley will be good. good luck jackets i understand more now!

jimmy d once said give zo some time he’ll build a contender, this year might be that year to come for change in the NCS Div 1. i for one am all for the new show coming onto the stage and making a name and spotlighting the team they have.
the best teams of this decade i’d say
de la salle
pittsburg
san leandro
logan
have been pretty dominate. the strongest ebal team was also always there. but now we got berkeley in the mix each year. everybody else, the ebal has some each year, deer valley two great teams in 06 and 09
i think the future holds a lot of great football. ncs each year will be even more amazing when lad retires and dls is no longer emperor

San Lorenzo 20, Arroyo 14 if anyone is still wondering.
Noa was the workhorse with 135 yards. San Lorenzo / Hayward should be a good one in the HAAL next week. I really am impressed with the SLZ coach, Jacob Wright, I can tell the players really respect him, and he has done a great job.
