Yeah with all the different systems and classifications the sections use in playoffs it makes it tough for NorCal to really send the best teams across the board. Sure we will have one maybe two strong teams a year but not all five. I mean you have the top teams for the Open Game and DIII game in the same bracket. the next top team for DIII and the top team for small schools are in the same bracket. The CCS Open kills some teams getting a chance to play when they are a top DII team or DIII team but lose to a pretty good DI program that doesn’t even make a bowl game. Plus SoCal has a bazillion schools to choose from it would be nice if we at least got the Central section as part of NorCal. they will never get selected from SoCal and would have a better chance of representing NorCal and they can play some football down there. It would be nice if all of California’s leagues and playoff divisions could be organized according to enrollment. There is very good football played up here but until we stop sending the third or fourth best option for some of the divisions SoCal will continue to dominate.

thanks Renegades. The whole thing is confusing to me, so I don’t follow anyway till State Bowls start to become possibilities for the remaining semi-finalists.

I think the CCS is a little better, although their Open Division isn’t perfect. Picking the best schools regardless of enrollment is a neat idea, but it doesnt allow for top teams to make bowls even if they are top in bowl rankings but against other top programs.

at least they rest of CCS divisions have clear brackets. but whats more fun than our NCS system where the top programs get the reward of knocking off DLS someday as a possibility..

Tracy and Rocklin are going to be in different brackets. Tracy will be DI and Rocklin will be DII. the SJS DII bracket may actually be the toughest playoff bracket in Northern California this year. Grant and St. Mary’s have been tearing it up all year, Rocklin looks as though it will be the winner of the SFL after wins over both Del Oro and Granite Bay. those two schools are very good programs. Granite Bay has had a few injuries as of late but both losses were very, very close. Another school that is tough and could cause problems for the top dogs is Folsom, a team with a single loss by one point and is currently fifth in the calpreps DI bowl rankings.

well since the SJS playoffs are completely different with dynamic divisions(they’re not set by enrollment like NCS before the season, they change from week to week based on results can you believe that), I wouldn’t really follow them until the semifinals or so. A lot of their playoffs include a lot of bad teams, kinda like our expanded brackets, except in their divisions they have true Div 2 teams at the bottom of the pack going up against true Div 1 teams like Grant.

if this happens, the Grant/St. Mary’s game will be huge. the Tracy/Rocklin game too if that happens down the line because they’re also undefeated as well.

and Del Oro and Granite Bay will be there, but I dont know much more about the rest of the teams.

If a full 16 teams qualify and apply to the playoffs, then yes, the tops seeds such as DLS and Deer Valley will play in the first round.

The way I see it, there will be 15 teams in the D1 playoffs meaning the #1 seed will have a bye. If CP happens to pull out a win against YV, we could have a complete 16 team bracket with no byes. Pretty sure thats how its going to work out.
