  1. KillerD Says:

KillerD’s – Big Game Predictions – Final Week of Regular Season!

    ACCAL:

    Pinole at Berkeley –

Off to a rampaging 4-0 start, the Spartans from Pinole hit the brick wall of defeat vs. Alameda in week five, regrouped and rolled up their sleeves. Then, with Popeye-like determination they flexed their forearms and got ready to beat El Cerrito – they flopped on the road 13 – 17. Berkeley on the other hand is priming the pump for the Division 1 playoffs and is looking to make a statement vs. Pinole. Coach Carter wants his team huffing and puffing and ‘blowing the house down’ of any team in their way of a top 3 seed in the playoffs.

This game should be over at halftime and keeping star RB Galvin healthy is the Yellow Jackets top priority other than winning. Pinole is hoping to keep it respectable in order to gain favor with the unmerciful NCS playoff seeding committee. Things could get out of hand badly by halftime, but if Pinole plays a perfect half, they will stick around until the scoreboard lights up like a pinball machine in favor of Berkeley midway through the 3rd quarter.

Galvin might go bananas in this game, but the in-depth defensive coaches that might match wits with the Berkeley staff in the playoffs are looking for one thing only—-Can Berkeley Pass the Football effectively enough to keep teams’ honest? Berkeley should spend a significant amount of time working on their passing efficiency in this game as a tune up for the big show. Berkeley is averaging 40-points per game, and they are hoping to get 3 or 4 scores via the air.

Prediction: Berkeley 44 vs. Pinole 12

    BSAL:

    Piedmont at St. Patrick’s –

Three years ago these two good programs met for the league title billing, and then in 2008 big school Encinal was transferred from the ACCAL into the BSAL, and since then, these two squads are battling for a wild card spot in their respective playoff divisions. Examining their stats after each team has played the same opponents in league play, reveals nearly identical numbers: Piedmont Offense averages 36-ppg., and St. Patrick’s 35-ppg. On Defense, St. Patrick’s gives up 25 and ditto for the Highlanders.

With all things being equal, the common opponent game against Encinal must be dissected. Encinal beat the Bruins 55-19 on St. Patrick’s home field, a drubbing even worse than last year. Piedmont lost to the Jets on the home tarmac of the Jets in Alameda, 38-6, and the Highlanders apparently played without their excellent quarterback for that one game.

St. Patrick’s will load up their veer attack and keep the ball away from the Highlanders offense, while Piedmont will air it out when they are in possession of the almighty pigskin. Both teams are looking to lock up a very high ranking for the playoffs. This game shapes up to be a classic battle.

If it rains the edge goes to the Bruins at home, but clouds are supposed to pass through tonight.

    Prediction: Piedmont 44 vs. St. Patrick’s 28
    BVAL:

    Heritage at Deer Valley –

The Patriots No Huddle Fly Offense is a pain to prepare for and their tempo takes some getting used to for opposing Defenses. However, the Patriots have had some trouble stopping faster than normal offenses, and Monte Vista and Pittsburg torched them often and easily.

Problem is, Deer Valley is a frightening combination of Monte Vista and Pittsburg (size, speed, some power and spread schemes bolstered by incredible athletes).

Deer Valley beat Pitt on the road in a great test, while Heritage got tossed around by the Pirates on the road. If Heritage gets 3 or 4 turnovers and IF the Patriots can keep the DV offense standing on the sideline – then they have a slim chance of victory.

DV will look to harass the smaller Heritage team with a pressure cooker defense and blazing special teams. Once DV has the football, they can run or throw over and around the overmatched Patrtiot troops.

DV is hoping to blow out the Patriots by at least 21 points, to make the brave Patriots team clearly understand this is not going to be a Revolution to their liking.

Prediction: Deer Valley 38 vs. Heritage 14

    DFAL:

    Campolindo at Las Lomas –

The Cougars and Knights clashed for a classic big time playoff game a couple of years ago, but this year’s annual big game is of a different ilk.

Campo has generated some momentum with their stunning upset of Acalanes on the Dons home turf. Las Lomas on the other hand has played a very hard schedule, and has spent 8 of their 9 lives like a proverbial Cat.

Does Las Lomas have enough gas in the tank and talent on the field to handle the Cougars in their last game at home in Walnut Creek in 2009? Or, can Campo joust the Knights out of the game, behind the strong arm of Tommy Stephens?

In league play: LL puts up 32-ppg and gives up 30-ppg. And Campo scores only 28-ppg, but they only relinquish 21-ppg in DFAL skirmishes.

The old adage that offense wins some games but it’s defense that wins championships normally holds true, but it appears that Campo has the better defense having never given up more than 32-points in one game all year. But LL has given up more than 40-points twice, and 60-points once – albeit to better squads than Campo has faced.

Prediction: Camplindo 30 vs. Las Lomas 26

    EBAL:

    Amador Valley at Foothill –

More than he would care to recall, Amador solid coach Sira’s Dons were ‘supposed to beat Foothill’ only to have the venerable coach Sweeney’s Falcons pull of the upset yet again.

But 2009 is a different story for both units. Foothill cannot run the ball, and relies on a multitude of dinks and dunks to move the sticks, which then sets up the longer throws for excellent QB Mannion to digest. Amador can run the football well, and they will do it Friday night vs. an undermanned Falcon team.

Foothill is scrambling to avoid finishing with a 5-5 record and a first-round playoff date with one of the top dogs – DLS, Berkeley or Deer Valley, dependent upon the number of teams in the bracket this post season. With that in mind, harkening back to some of Foothill’s better playoff games – insider’s understand that THIS is the game where Sweeney will pull out all of the stops in order to finish 6-4: Hook and Ladder, Halfback Pass, Double Reverse Pass, Fake Punt and FG trick plays.

The Dons covet respect and the only way they get it this year is to dismantle Foothill with a very good defense and proud running game. Also, if the Dons win, they are assured a Top 4 seed in the D1 playoffs.

Mannion will throw for a lot of yards and a few touchdowns, but it will that be enough?

Prediction: Amador Valley 27 vs. Foothill 21

    HAAL:

    Arroyo at Bishop O’Dowd –

Coach Perenon was managed to wrestle his team away from a very bad season-unfamiliar results for the solid program accustomed to winning. This year’s team appears to be getting better and their seizure-like outburst offensively vs. San Leandro was a good sign for a team mired in low scoring games. The BOD tie vs. Alameda really shook the Dragons, and they hibernated while getting blasted by S.I in SF, and embarrassed by a rebuilding Skyline program at O’Dowd.

Still the Dragons with a win will enter the Division 3 playoffs having won 2 of 3 games and with a 4-5-1 record, which is better than the 4-6 teams that Will be in the NCS D3 tournament.

Arroyo has beaten nobody of note, and has only been victorious once on the road this year. Look for Arroyo to play for pride against a fired-up Dragon team breathing Fire.

O’Dowd has their backs to the wall, all Exit doors have been welded shut, and the ONLY way they make the Playoffs is by beating a very, very beatable Arroyo team.

    Prediction: Bishop O’Dowd 30 vs. Arroyo 14

    Humboldt – Del Norte:

IF Fortuna upsets the Eureka Loggers, they will finish 8-2, and have only one good win in 2009, vs. Eureka. By going 8-2, Fortuna would be assured a home game for the first round of the NCS D3 playoffs, and Eureka would subsequently be 7-3.

However, Eureka has played a much tougher schedule and is looking to be 8-2. The first time these two teams met in Fortuna earlier this year, Eureka pummeled them badly.

Fortuna if they lose, will finish 7-3, but they have beaten no teams of any quality, and will have lost to Ferndale (Div. 4) and Eureka twice (D2). Going 7-3 will not get Fortuna a top 8 seed guarantee, and to be sure, If Campo wins to be 6-4, they will bump the Huskies out of that slot.

Eureka in their last home game wants to win big and earn a better seed in the D2 playoffs.

Prediction: Eureka 38 vs. Fortuna 14

    Marin County League:

    Marin Catholic at Tamalpais –

Excellent Marin Catholic coach Peralta understands the importance of not letting his team collapse. His team is trying hard to secure the # 2 seed in the Div. 3 playoffs, and has a good chance with a win vs. Tamalpais. They have played a tougher schedule than Tam, and on paper should win.

But, the Red-Tailed Hawks of Tam at worst will finish with a 7-3 record, even if they lose to MC as planned. Tam realistically is hoping to keep it close, in order to influence NCS voters to propel them higher than EC, Piedmont or Fortuna and maybe even a 6-4 Campo in the post-season playoff rankings. Tam struggled with Terra Linda and Drake, and has not beaten a high quality opponent. If they somehow upset MC, they jump all they up to 4th seed. But if they get handled by MC rather easily, Tam will struggle to take a spot higher than 8th seed.

Prediction: Marin Catholic 35 vs. Tamalpais 14

    Sonoma League:

    Healdsburg at Petaluma –

This has been a good game in recent years, but not this year. Bruised, battered and tired, the Greyhounds are hoping to catch a break vs. the # 1 seed in D2, Petaluma. But Petaluma is humming loud and smooth, and their size and speed will be too much for Healdsburg. There is only so much a player or staff can ‘come up with’ vs. a superior opponent that works.

Healdsburg needs to be ‘respectable’ in defeat to garner a top 7 or 8 seed in D3 playoff hunt.

Prediction: Petaluma 40 vs. Healdsburg 14

  2. ManDown Says:

The big question is what players will make big impacts in this years playoffs? Who’s game will rise and who will fall? What new players or juniors will burst on the scene? The real season will begin in a week!

  3. THE WHISTLE Says:

I will be at Foothill-Amador, but have to think Cal-DLS certainly deserves recignition as a big game. First thought is DeLa always is rounding into shape at this point for the playoffs and they sqaush Cal, but there’s some lingering issues with the Spartans this year and Cal is coming off a loss, whioh should have them breathing fire. Could be a pretty damn good game and a Cal upset would make the NCS meeting Sunday a lot more interesting. As far as Foothill-AV, try as I may to find a reason for Foothill to win, I just can’t this year. They can’t tackle, can’t run the ball … best receiver out — just too much to overcome. This AV team reminds me a lot of the team which went to the finals vs. DLS. Not as explosive mind you, but solid across the board. AV by 17

  4. Michelle Waters Says:

Marquis Waters has 21 touch downs in all. 19 rushing touchdowns, 1 punt return touch down and 1 passing touch down.

  5. EBALfan Says:

Amador will be able to run the ball tomorrow night against Foothill. The question is will Amador be able to avoid turnovers and put the ball in the endzone? If Amador controls the clock and grinds out a few early scores it could be a long night for Sweeney and his Falcons. However, if Foothill can hold Amador to a few quick 3 and outs and muster a few scoring drives early (like they did against MV) then it could be anyone’s game.

I think Amador will be up 14-3 at half and will take rivalry game this year 28-17 from Foothill.

  6. Jimmy Durkin Says:

    Michelle,
Passing touchdowns do not count as a touchdown scored, since the receiver is credited with the touchdown. That’s why Marquis is shown with 20 TDs in the scoring leaders.

  7. renegades10 Says:

hey ward should be on the scoring list. 102 points if my math is correct.

  8. Jimmy Durkin Says:

It’s fixed now. I didn’t have the full list of EBAL stats so I didn’t have his scoring totals.

  9. guru-black Says:

kemp how’s it goin buddy? all well? do you know who won that volleyball game? can u ask cunningham for me who won i missed that game!

  10. renegades10 Says:

Whistle agreed about your comments on AV and the funny thing is this Spartan team also reminds me of the DLS team that had a lot of issues going into playoffs in 04, the year they beat AV in the final. The loss of TK, the breaking of the streak, a tie against Clayton Valley on homecoming. They have more talent then the 04 team but really seem to struggle with putting together a complete game against good competition so far. Hopefully the change starts tomorrow. By the way anyone who gets the SF Chronicle there was an article about Kristoff Williams the quarter back at Deer Valley in there today. Here’s the link:

  11. Coach Kemp Says:

    Dear Guru-black,

May God bless you with a life’s work a little more interesting and fulfilling than continuously, anonymously, negatively trolling a high school football assistant coach in a local high school prep sports blog.

I honestly never realized me, my life, my family, or the program and players I am associated with would be of such interest to anybody really, but I am glad I could be there for your entertainment pleasure.

At this point, I’m thinking you probably exhausted whatever value you may bring to the table to whatever cause it is that you are championing with your crusade towards me. You’d likely do yourself a favor by moving to bigger and more interesting things. One thing to think about doing is using your time on these boards to give props to the various players who are working hard to better themselves, the coaches who want to do good in their community, and the programs that exemplify virtuous traits. You may even inspire another individual to do the same and think about how positive it could get. Just something to think about.

    Take care man!

  12. ManO'War Says:

Entertaining read, KillerD! Only complaint-give us more games next time. Hey WHISTLE, ouch – did you say 17 for AV over FH? I’ll say it again – ouch! That’s out on a long limb in a rivlary game like that one. So a question, though: What about the second half? Did I catch it – you weren’t really referring to last year’s halftime score with that 17-point reference, were you!? :-)

  13. Matt Rempel Says:

    American 28, Valley Christian 21
Was a good game, VC would have won if they could
have capitalized on American’s mistakes a bit more, but
VC made enough of their own.
    R. Johnson big rushing game for American, neither
    team could throw the ball.

  14. bhsfan Says:

rickey galvin looks to hit that 2000 rushing yard mark, lets see if his o-line can help him get there, good luck to galvin

    go jackets

  15. shabawler Says:

Good game tonite at B-Hi vs Pinole Valley…DON’T SLEEP!!!!!

  16. ManDown Says:

Good game between B-High and Pinole? Yeah right! Berkeley will put up at least 40 on that team. Get ready for a good ol’ fashion beat down.

  17. ManDown Says:

    Coach Kemp,
Why do you keep answering to guru? He must be under you skin because you are trippin off what he says. Who cares? You’re doing exactly what he wants you to do.

  18. All Day Says:

ManDown, watch out for the upset tonight. Coach Alameda has something up his sleeve.

  19. 925 Says:

hey thanks for the American/Valley Christian update Matt Rempel. So does this mean American will apply for NCS. They are 5-5 then right?

  20. 925 Says:

hey BHSFan, my question is how many carries does Rickey need to do it? I think he can get 227 yards or most of them in the first quarter! and if anybody knnows, do they continue these totals into the postseason? I think other stats do like TD’s and yards for all the QB’s.. but I’m not sure.

oh boy postseason around the corner any game if you attend one tonight is going to be electric because of that fact and it’s the last game of the season. may the best teams win tonight and set up a great NCS saturday..

  21. Jimmy Durkin Says:

    925,
We stop printing stats after the regular season and we stop calculating full stats when the postseason starts. However, for things such as considering All-East Bay selections, we do include the postseason and for all other references, the playoff stats count.

Also, yes American will be applying and will get into the playoffs.

  22. 925 Says:

thanks Jimmy. so that makes 15 teams out of 16 teams. intersting if DLS didn’t get a bye. I remember in Baseball they played #16 arroyo one year and lost? lol
I think it was the year Arroyo made the 3A championship.

  23. 925 Says:

thanks Jimmy. so that makes 15 teams out of 16 teams. intersting if DLS didn’t get a bye. I remember in Baseball they played #16 arroyo one year and lost? lol
I think it was the year Arroyo made the 3A championship.

  24. FalconsBaby Says:

Robert Jiles of Pittsburg will come up big for the Pirates in the playoffs possibly leading an upset. He is simply a beast

  25. bhsfan Says:

hey jimmy what game you will b attending tonite

  26. Jimmy Durkin Says:

    Bhsfan,
    I’ll be out at Pinole-Berkeley.

  27. bhsfan Says:

    great jimmy see u there

  28. Matt Rempel Says:

American was whooping it up after the game, a bit sad considering they struggled to beat a D. 4 team. Valley would have won if they could have capitalized on some mistakes. I wish American the best in the playoffs, but I don’t see them winning a game with the seed they are bound to get if they get in. They will be severely overmatched whoever they play, but kudos to them for putting themselves in position to get in at 5-5.

  29. guru-black Says:

kemp ur rite i’d like to congratulate u on a a fine season beating the likes of san lorenzo, pinole, hercules,de anza, richmond and tying the great bishop o’dowd. with those victories no one can deny that u guys r deserving of making da playoffs good luck i know you’ll win a game this time. good job hornets all credit should go to coach rocklin he does a fine job.

  30. shabawler Says:

I’m callin’ it Slick Rick ain’t gettin the 2000 for the season on PV..sorry Yellowbellies..this could be the upset of the year!!

  31. donut Says:

hey 10-3 at the half? berekeley fans whassup with dat?
twitter says he has 11 yards and his team got no first downs. zo be lightin a fire on them about now. see how they come out at the third. http://twitter.com/eastbaypreps

  32. donut Says:

nope 10-10 going into the fourth quarter? not the blowout i expected

  33. donut Says:

WOW I’m sure at a loss for words. There goes the neighborhood. #4 seed most definitely. “Not Supposed to lose at home against a lower division opponent.” “How does this happen?” “A lot of phrases will be thrown around”, but remember they can still make noise in NCS…

but really is this deserving, Berkeley almost had an undefeated season. its a shame im a neutral party I dont think they deserved to lose that. It would have been a great thing.

DV 2009 10-0(seasons not final yet)
    Encinal 2008 13-0
    De La Salle 2007 13-0
    James Logan 2007 10-0(regular season)
    Foothill 2006 10-0
    Monte Vista 2005 10-0
    San Leandro 2005 10-0
    Amador Valley 2004 10-0

how many 10-0 teams have happened? berkeley doesn’t get to join that club yet..

  34. Wannaknow Says:

I went to that B-High game. I left mid-way through the 3rd. It was over then. Pinole stacked the box and flat out dared Berkeley to pass….. They couldn’t. The crown safety was about 8 yards off the ball. He could provide now help on the outside. And Pinole didn’t care. The QB for Berkeley wasn’t even pressured because Pinole played gap control all night. He was just bad.

  35. Mike Says:

doesn’t look good going into playoffs.

Monte Vista should be looking at a #4 because they blew Pittsburg out and Berkeley barely beat Pitt.

    #1 DLS
    #2 Amador/Deer Vally
#3 Amador/DV .. here’s why. Nobody has played DLS like Amador did this season. A rematch will be so much more fierce. but the semi will be at DV.. so either way, it’s who is in the way to that semi.
    #4 Monte Vista
#5 Berkeley? last year 9-1 they were #8. so anywhere they could fall
    #6 Pitt
    #7 Logan
#8 Washington (Logan ahead of Washington, but BVAL is stronger than MVAL)
    #9 Cal, lost to Washington
    #10 SRV, lost to Cal
#11 Foothill, lost to SRV and Cal. did beat Logan so its a crazy cycle.
    #12 San Leandro
    #13 Heritage
    #14 Newark
    #15 College Park
    #16 American

    seeds with predictions
#1 DLS vs #16 American. 68-0 is the worst DLS blowout. happened twice to Logan in 2006 and SRV in 2000.
    #2 DV vs #15 College Park. 49-7.
    #3 AV vs #14 Newark. 35-7.
    #4 MV vs #13 Heritage. rematch 52-14. 42-7
#5 Berkeley vs #12 San Leandro. Hey that match happens after all. Dont Think Berkeley Puts up 50 on anybody LOL..
    #6 Pitt vs #11 Foothill. 31-28 Pitt?
    #7 Logan vs #10 SRV. 28-24 Logan
#8 Washington vs #9 Cal. 42-7 Cal is ready.

  36. Wannaknow Says:

What I said previously about B-High’s inability to pass was amplified tonight. And it pains me to say it’s looking like a first round exit for them. They lost more then a game tonight. Pinole just gave Berkeley’s 1st round opponent a blueprint to victory. If they draw San Leandro as you’re predicting Mike it doesn’t look good. Sorry to say.

  37. Mike Says:

I know that’s why Berkeley’s Passing game needs to be developed because SL will shred them with Musni to Bannerman screens all night

  38. Mike Says:

and it is definitely secret’s out now

  39. Concrete17 Says:

What’s worse…..Kyle B. says Coach Carter looks to be coaching at Contra Costa College next year.

  40. Mike Says:

well that rumor is well known. Zo gets bored and starts bigger and better things. (sarcasm) The real deal is he can help more kids go to 4 yr college at CCC. and since JuCo games are Saturday usually, he can still keep up with Berkeley

  41. Wannaknow Says:

Not meaning to pile on but, I think it was bhsfan that was trying to convince me that they would be able to pass when I brought it up 2 weeks ago. I just know what I see in games. And one would think that with the difference in talent levels at schools like Richmond, De Anza, and Hercules they wold have worked on passing a little bit. Not to mention with al the “D1″ prospects there is such a disservice done to them by not passing. How do receivers got noticed, How does the line show they can pass block, and what about the RB’s and their blitz pick-up. And yes Concrete that seems to be the rumor. There are at least 3 former B-high assistants already on the staff. And I mean guys that were there last season. Not to mention the former B-high players that are there now.

  42. Jimmy Durkin Says:

To clarify, Kyle is just repeating the rumor he has heard, which has been whispered around and mentioned in comments on this blog more than once.

  43. Wannaknow Says:

Lol. Very PC Jimmy. All I’m saying is it just seems very coincidental.

  44. shabawler Says:

@ALL DAY: was that a great game or what?…First off good game to the Jackets for playing a good 4 quarters and making it interesting..I take back the “YellowBelly” shot…I was just trying to think of comeback for that “good ol’ fashion beat down” crack, ya’ll understand that smack won’t be tolerated.

But now why so quiet from the B-Hi crowd now?????

Like I said early on…”Lets wait and see what’s what”..and tonite we definitely did..tonite David punked Goliath..and Galvn couldn;t find the enzone..it was sorta like this:

RUN RICK RUN…STUFFED.RICK.STOPPED.Sorry Slick Rick =(
Hate to say I told ya’ll so.

For all yall who missed it, the Pinole Valley D laid it down on B-Hi’s home turf and handled it with the PV backup QB driving the bus…

So beware: Don’t get caught with your JACKET off cuz u might get Speared by a mighty PV Spartan!!!
But seriously BHS Good Luck in the playoffs!!!

@Jimmy D: How is PV’s NCS seeding now that they toppled a D1 high seed???

    DON’T SLEEP!!!!

  45. donut Says:

Good game PV Spartans. I think ya’ll are gonna do fine in D2. Watch out for Concord, Hayward, Las Lomas, etc from the East Bay and Petaluma, Carrillo, Cardinal Newman in the Redwood Empire.

Ygnacio lost to College park bad tonight. so congrats to CP becoming playoff eligible tonight. all falcons got to do is go to Deer Valley now..not Antioch the better team in the `yoch.

Overall tonight, looks like PV gets a huge jump for seeds and YV takes a hit. perfect storm?

  46. Wannaknow Says:

Shabawler I think you & I were at 2 separate games. Your seed will go up because that just how these things go. But you took away the only dimension of an already 1 dimensional team. I don’t see any teams that lopsided in your playoff bracket. Love Alameda to death, dating back to his days at Kennedy. But He has had problems getting his best player (Henderson) the ball in space. 6’3 with a sub 4.5 40 time and a ton of athletic ability. You guys are in trouble once the playoffs start. The only way you get to the 2nd round is with a 1st round bye. honestly. I don’t know if you noticed but Berkeley’s style of play and SOS is not really respected on this board or by NCS decision makers. Besides which PV team shows up to the playoff game? The one that won tonight or the one that played against both El Cerrito and Alameda?

    Food for thought sir.

  47. Spartan83 Says:

Wannaknow, While I agree with you about Coach Alameda … (He can drive a Spartan fan crazy with his play calling) I don’t if we’re completely in trouble once the playoffs start. Our lost in the El Cerrito game was more due to the stupid refs (bad calls, lack of calls and horrible spotting of the ball with seconds left in the game). While our lost to Alameda was bad, Coach Alameda should have made some second half adjustments (which he didn’t) to give us a chance to win. If he doesn’t learn to make adjustments, then I’d agree with you and our post season will be over sooner than I would hope or expect.

  48. renegades10 Says:

wow CP won? holy crap. Wow DLS is going to have to play next week after all. Spartans played well tonight except for the 12 penalties. Shut down Cal’s run attack. First Cal td came against Spartan 2nd team when it was already 42-3.

  49. Jimmy Durkin Says:

    Shabawler,
I really have to think that now, Pinole gets seeded ahead of Ygnacio Valley. They already had a claim for that spot, having beat the Tech team that YV lost to. Now only a win over a Div. I powerhouse, they’ve got to get boosted up. And with that defense, I have to consider them a contender. Coach Alameda wasn’t ready to admit that when I suggested it after the game, but this is certainly a wake up call to the rest of the field.

  50. Wannaknow Says:

With what was at steak for the Jackets tonight I just thought they would have been much more prideful. the box was stacked. No swing passes or screens. And You had to love the draw play on 3rd and 20 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. PV was playing gap control all night they weren’t even trying to penetrate. If it weren’t for the fact that these were kids playing it was almost laughable.

  51. Wannaknow Says:

    I meant at stake.

  52. Wannaknow Says:

Spartan83 I didn’t mean you guys are inferior or anything like that. All I’m saying is you will not be able to stack the box against any team in your bracket that poses absolutely no threat to pass. Coach Alameda for years has tried to dictate what the defense does. Even when he does not have the personnel to execute his game plan. And just so you know all refs are horrible. (I’m sure they’re nice people personally) But that just goes with the territory. I remember coaching in a game a few years back where the head official allowed the entire game to be coached using NFL rules including 2 feet inbounds on a completed pass. We were totally blown away by it.

  53. Spartan83 Says:

Wannaknow, I think that stacking the box vs Berkeley (Mr Galvin) was a smart move on Coach Alameda’s part. It help us win the game afterall. However, the Spartan defense is still pretty good and shouldn’t be overlooked. I’m more concerned with their Offense than anything … if they don’t develop a passing attack themselves, I’m sure they’ll see alot of defenses stacked to stop Henderson, Hill and Milner.

  54. renegades10 Says:

    My guess at seedings is

    1. DLS- after last week i thought that they may get jumped by DV but after a dominating performance tonight against a tough Cal squad I think they will get the 1 seed.
    2. DV- Dominated for most of the season and have solid wins over 4 DI playoff teams.
    3. AV- Normally a last week loss would hurt this team but committee can’t ignore their wins over MV and Cal and a close loss to the Spartans.
    4. MV- Berkeley’s loss helps the Mustangs move into the top four and a potential semifinal rematch with DLS that we all know they have wanted since their week 7 loss.
    5. B-High- Unfortunately for the Jackets they picked the wrong time to have a glaring weakness pointed out and it hurt them in the form of a loss. A game against SRV would be interesting but I think they will come out fired up and will win their first round. And they would get the semi at home anyways.
    6. Pitt (if they win tomorrow)- A very dangerous and explosive team. Some very close losses as well as a blowout to MV have left this team flying under the radar but they are finding their form for a run.
    7. Cal- Physically dominated tonight drops them from the six seed. Should get a rematch with Washington though that they have wanted since their opening loss by 2.
    8. Logan- Poor game tonight but won. Dominated Washington and has had tough three point losses to two of the top teams in this bracket. Unfortunately big loss to Foothill keeps them from a top 6 seed.
    9. Foothill- Win tonight against the Dons moves them up and will have to travel to Logan to show their week 2 win over the Colts was no fluke.
    10. Washington- Loss to Logan last week drops them far. Solid team but will have to prove that they belong with the top boys by again beating the Grizzlies of Cal High.
    11. San Leandro- Not a lot known about this team. The Pirates usually are in the playoffs but since 2005 have not done well. Can put points on the board but questions about the defense and a weak league schedule have dropped this team. Were competitive though with two WCAL teams so they could surprise. Plus they get home field unless they play a league champ.
    12. SRV- Only real solid win is over Foothill early in the season.
    13. Heritage- Decent team but expect a first round exit for the team
    14. College Park- Came on strong to close the season to qualify. More quality wins then the two MVAL schools gets them this seed over the other two.
    15. Newark- No quality wins over DI schools but won head to head over American so instead of traveling to Sparta they get fed to the Wolverines.
    16. American- Excited about making playoffs but will be bottom seed and a trip to Sparta.

  55. renegades10 Says:

i meant to say berkeley would get the quarterfinal at home anyways against MV.

  56. Wannaknow Says:

Renegades10 I say I agree with your seedings with the exception of Berkeley given the way things played out tonight. I can’t see them being seeded any higher then 6. I don’t mean where the should be seeded. I mean where they will be seeded. I am really sorry to say the ACCAL powerhouse is nothing but a 1 trick pony. It’s as simple as 1 + 1 = 2. Stop Galvin. Stop Berkeley. That loss makes all their wins now suspect. It actually begs the question….. How good is Pitsburg?

  57. Wannaknow Says:

Spartan83 it was a great strategy. My point is that you’ll never get to use it again. Berkeley should be faulted for letting it happen. Which speak volumes about the lack of validity of the ACCAL. You mean no one else thought of this. Not even El Cerrito in the middle of their 50 – 0 beatdown.

I’m callin’ it Slick Rick ain’t gettin the 2000 for the season on PV..sorry Yellowbellies..this could be the upset of the year!!

Excellent call Shabawler! Where’s all of the Ricky lovers now? I doubt he got more than 75 total yards.

    ManDown Says:
    November 13th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
Good game between B-High and Pinole? Yeah right! Berkeley will put up at least 40 on that team. Get ready for a good ol’ fashion beat down.

    KillerD Says:
    November 12th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
KillerD’s – Big Game Predictions – Final Week of Regular Season!

    ACCAL:

    Pinole at Berkeley –
This game should be over at halftime and keeping star RB Galvin healthy is the Yellow Jackets top priority other than winning. Pinole is hoping to keep it respectable in order to gain favor with the unmerciful NCS playoff seeding committee. Things could get out of hand badly by halftime, but if Pinole plays a perfect half, they will stick around until the scoreboard lights up like a pinball machine in favor of Berkeley midway through the 3rd quarter.

Prediction: Berkeley 44 vs. Pinole 12 (NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!)

Where’s all over the Berkeley fans now?

  59. Yo Mama Says:

Coach Vierra was a ex-QB for Salesian during the early ’70′s. Very sucessful QB- could never beat St. Mary’s though.

  60. Jimmy Durkin Says:

    Spartan83,
Galvin actually did get up to 144 yards rushing, 107 of which came in the second half.

  61. KillerD Says:

Hats Off to Pinole, and hey Spartan83 you only pasted part of my quote, here is the rest, where I openly stated Berkely needed to find out if their passing game was any good or not.

“Galvin might go bananas in this game, but the in-depth defensive coaches that might match wits with the Berkeley staff in the playoffs are looking for one thing only—-Can Berkeley Pass the Football effectively enough to keep teams’ honest? Berkeley should spend a significant amount of time working on their passing efficiency in this game as a tune up for the big show. Berkeley is averaging 40-points per game, and they are hoping to get 3 or 4 scores via the air.”

Solid win for Pinole and now Berkeley drops to a 7th seed for sure.

    Other results:

St. Patricks: Good victory over Piedmont. But, did Piedmont lose their QB in the 2nd quarter on a late hit while leading St. Pats?

Deer Valley: Good hard win over Heritage, and now Will the NCS Voters choose at 10-0 team with a hard schedule as the Top Dog?

Las Lomas: Wow! HELLO and Good Knights! Campo got blasted like nobody’s business in a key game. They already dropped to Miramonte, so what now for the Cougars in rankings?

Foothill: Huge win over cross-town rival Amador. Mannion goes OFF for big big game and win. With an earlier win over Logan, Foothill leap frogs others now.

Petaluma: Expected but strong win vs. Healdsburg. Now they will be the # 1 seed and Petaluma deserves it. Petaluma looking like solid choice to win it all in 2009 after YV dropped the ball tonight.

  62. renegades10 Says:

wannaknow- yes but they can’t be seeded below Pitt due to head to head. and neither cal nor logan has a real case to be the five seed to do to losses against washington and foothill respectively. that’s why i don’t see any other team moving into that five slot above b-high. But as you pointed out, limiting Galvin on the ground and forcing the Jackets to throw swings the game in a lot of team’s favor.

Pittsburg is a much better team then they were back when they played Berkeley. The qb has improved dramatically and they have the athletes. The question about them is whether or not they can put it together for the whole game. In their game against DV, the Wolverines stepped it up in the second half but Pitt could have won that game. They haven’t won the close games this year but are more then capable of beating most of the teams in this bracket. It’s too bad they are without Dargan because he is their best player on both sides of the ball. Would not be shocked to see them in the semis and the way my bracket worked out in the finals potentially.

The only thing that this Friday helped the seeding committee with is making the top two clear cut.

  63. bhsfan Says:

everybody ask where are all the b high fans well im still here, cant say anything but that pinole came to play they tackled very well, congrats to pvhs, hope the jackets can get they minds right and get ready for the playoffs. not going to make excuses, we lose plain and simple

  64. 925 Says:

yeah head to heads really leave you scratchin your head here. I dont think SRV is a better team than Foothill, after tonight but on the field.. i Think they’ll look at all those results and have to seed accordingly. dont think cal is ‘worse’ than washington, both good teams, but on the field..

course the old argument was and always has been the ebal teams beat up on each other, so take that away foothill has to be ahead of logan, but factor it in and how do you seperate the top 8-10? who knows

    glad im not seeding

  65. All Day Says:

I said coach Alameda had something up, it’s nothing new stack the box force B-high to pass. Elementary coaching something E.C,Hercules,etc.,etc,etc. coaches could not figure out is not experienced enough to think through. Please coaches go back to youth football. Coach Alameda excellent job at figuring out somrthing so easy. Not to take anything away from B-High and R.Galvin i think he still put ran for at least 150yds. but he could have ran for 250yds. if not for 8 and 9 players in the box. Good game for coach A.Carter to gameplan for next weeks NCS playoff game.Have faith in your QB one on one and put it in the air.Put R.Galvin out wide confuse the Defense, get creative show us you know to coach,or do you? Time will tell. Could be a blessing for this to happen to Coach Carter and his B-High team. Rather it happen in season than playoffs.

  66. Wannaknow Says:

All day, my only gripe (and it’s a big one) is that they’re stuck in this horrible league so make the most of it. What happened last night can not be fixed prior to playoffs. There are only 2 teams in their league that could realistically play with them each year. Those other games should have bean used as scrimmages. Working on different pass protections, blitz pick-up, developing timing between QB and WR’s, and finally developing your depth. Things you must do to prepare for the playoffs. You don’t get extra credit for hanging 50 on undermanned and unprepared teams. I thought B-high was lying in wait this year. Thinking their passing game was at least elementary enough to keep opponents honest. But last night what I saw was a little short of remedial at best. The inability to complete a slant, curl, or digg showed all of D1 what they needed to know. Or should I say confirmed what they already knew. I was just a little late to except it, because I refuse to believe I didn’t see it. I guess I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

  67. renegades10 Says:

you are right all day, this could be a good thing for the jackets to remind them that they have to come to play every single day. on the flip side the level of football is about to increase dramatically. so it will have to be a short turn around if they want to make some noise. a potential quarterfinal date with MV could be looming.

  68. THE WHISTLE Says:

BHSfan, you deserve props for showing up, but you have to be a little worried about the playoffs now…If you can’t handle Pinole, I’m thinking Deer Valley, De La Salle and the rest of the D-I field will be a tad bit tough??

  69. KillerD Says:

College Park totally destroyed YV last night, and for some reason, YV could not put anything in place on D to slow down the Falcons rushing attack.

Surprisingly lackluster performance by YV, especially given the momentum they had obtained by beating Concord.

Congrats to College Park, on a huge and timely win.

  70. Concrete17 Says:

BHSfan….become a fan of the Jackets since Carter ratcheted up the program…always thought that school should be a powerhouse since the only other HS with a football program is St Mary’s. Not a fan of some of your raves but I repect you Primo. Don’t worry your boys will be ready for the playoffs. Maybe they were just looking ahead and forgot about taking care of business with PV. Also remember once you are on everybody’s radar you have a big, heavy target on your back

  71. norcalfball Says:

foothill made a statement…bhigh too…some serious jumbling going to happen now…

#1 DLS – stil top team without a doubt
#2 DV – great year, but got to unseat the champs before you get the 1 seed…
#3 foothill – this might seem crazy…but with wins over av, mv, and logan i think this happens…
#4 av – great season but lost the rivalry game again (foothill and av could very easily flip flop)
#5 mv – i think the top 5 is set in stone now…4 ebal teams plus dv…
#6 bhigh – still 9-1, but because of logans shaky win last night as well keep them slightly ahead.
#7 logan – a good win with washington, and 2 near losses to mv and dv…
#8 pittsburgh – providing they win tonight…alll losses to good teams and been rolling lately…
#9 san leandro – i think 8-2 slides them up here…cal didnt put up a great fight and neither did srv…
#10 tough call here, because srv and cals win over foothill looks a lot better now…i think a toss up between cal and washington, so i lean toward washington as they beat them.
#11 cal – beat srv logically choice here
#12 srv – 6-4 with foothill win trumps heritage
#13 heritage – easy choice here
#14 cp – definately gets nod over newark and american with huge win.
    #15 newark
    #16 american

if antioch beats pitt tonight..then pitt, antioch and heritage make up 12-14…cp to #15 and american is out.

  72. chs1012 Says:

    Ncfb-
Cal dominated Foothill….you’re correct in self analysis. Crazy yes. Logical? No. I don’t think it happens.

Berkeley found out one dimensional O is mighty risky and although kudos to FHS’s #1 receiver making it back for the rivalry game, #3 listing is… well, crazy. FHS was VERY fortunate- as is the pool- Stancil being out…

  73. Ebal fan #2 Says:

Cameron Rowland is a stud! Coming back from injury and absolutely sticking it to Amador. Major gamechanger for Foothill.

  74. Ebal fan #2 Says:

Mannion deserves first team all league QB spot. Outplayed Nott on national tv. OSU have a good player coming

  75. the G.O.A.T. Says:

just becuz u can put a square peg in a round hole doesnt make u a great coach, some kids r strong enuff to do that ie. GAVIN But soon u find out the hole is to small 4 ur square peg and ur exposed LOL

  76. litleman Says:

Sorry Ebal but Nottingham has 3200plus passing yds 35TD’s and more wins than Mannion he is number 1 in the league and McGovern is the #1 Receiver…no offense to Rowland glad the kid came back to play good for him and the team…

  77. Wannaknow Says:

Litleman I totally agree. League MVP is a season long award. Nottingham brought it week in and week out. No real games off to speak of. And the kid flat out dominated. So give the kid his hardware. He’s EARNED it.

  78. norcalfball Says:

i agree cal beat foothill…but they are also 5-5..foothil now 6-4 and dominated a logan team that beat washington who cal lost to…so really choosing between apples and oranges right now…i do think foothill get a top 4 seed though…av might still stay ahead of them, bc 2 game better record…who really knows at this point though…i do think 4 ebal teams plus dv, bhigh, and logan make up top 7…after that anyones guess…but my belief is ebal will support ebal which could drive cal higher than washington very easily wouldn’t disagree with you…very well could see cal and pitt in 8 9 game…then wash or sl in 10 or 11..i do think srv kind of odd one out now and will get the 11 or 12 depending on what they do with sl…yes they beat foothill but no other wins, and they got blown out too many other games…give srv credit though many didn’t even think they would be in the playoffs but they are.

  79. norcalfball Says:

and yes nottingham no doubt 1st team qb…mannion is great but he hasn’t consistently put up the numbers as nottingham has..even in mv’s losses he had big numbers.

  80. renegades10 Says:

norcalfball- Foothill has good wins and bad losses remember granada and srv as well as the total domintation by Cal? they will not be a top four team at 6-4 with losses to those two no matter who they beat. remember SRV beat MV last year in the last week of the season but MV still was seeded ahead of them. The Falcons will be an 8 or 9 seed and have to prove that they can play at a high level consistently.

In regards to the qbs Nottingham has the numbers no doubt but overall I think Mannion is the better qb. Of course the stats are what usually get the awards but don’t forget Mannion has had to produce without any running game at all. If MV had as bad of a running game, I don’t think Nottingham would have the same numbers. Greg Johnson, Sullas, and Wilkerson have forced teams to stay honest on defense.

  81. Wannaknow Says:

Renegades10 I hear your argument and agree with it on a big picture level. However the award is voted for on an individual performance level. And the question you must ask yourself is very black and white. Did Mannion have a better season then Nottingham statistically or otherwise THIS YEAR. And the answer sadly is no he didn’t. You can’t play the if game when deciding this. You could say ward would be it if he got 2000 yards. (which he could have gotten with another 30 carries.)

  82. wondering Says:

Renegade I agree with you Foothill has played some really good games but the loses kill them I think you are looking at:
    1. DLS
    2. DV
    3. AV
    4. MV
    5. Berekley
    6. Foothill
    7. Logan
    8. Washington
    9. Pitt
    10.Cal
    11.SL
    12.SRV
    13.Heritage
    14-16 Not sure yet

I think that you give it to Nottingham because of the Schedule too, they have beat 5 teams in the playoffs plus the 3 loses are not big loses they were in every game and as Kyle said 3 plays and MV is 9-1 or 10-0.

  83. ManO'War Says:

Injuries will matter in playoff performance, though not rankings. Notice on Geeks show before the Foothill game standout Stancil was in street clothes while Turay interviewed and team practicing in background – indication of injury before the Foothill game? Played great while he was in there but if a hammy, uh-oh, hope he comes back fast. Foothill had Nick Quon (arguably best other player) totally out. Other examples are out there….

  84. All Day Says:

Wannaknow,B-High traditionallyhas never been a Football power back to when they played in the RBAL(Richmond,Berkeley Athletic League) sure they have had teams was good but they was not on the level of Kennedy,Pinole, or El Cerrito. they was always a middle of the pack Football team that would battle with De Anza and Richmond for 4th,5th,and 6th place in League(Hercules was not built yet). Back to what I said earlier COACHING is what
makes a good High School Football Team and Hercules(G.Montgomery),El Cerrito(K.Kahn),Richmond HS no stability in coaches,De Anza no stability and inexperienced, can’t comment on Alameda because no familiar with program, but those above mentioned schools and coaches should go back an start with youth football or at the least the JV level. I know its tough to find good qualified coaches in the West Contra Costa area, if I know that these young men are gifted and taltented Student-Athletes.Coach Alameda @ Pinole is the only coach in the ACCAL thats battle-tested 3 NCS Titles(pls. correct if wrong) and numerous playoff appearences.Sorry don’t know much about Alameda HS coach. It should not be surprising to noboby that Coach Alameda’s Pinole Valley Spartans smashed on B-High.The better Coached Prepared Team Won.When El Cerrito beat Pinole the better Athletic team won.Trust me on that.

  85. norcalfball Says:

i just think the ebal teams will hype their teams up in coaches rankings…pushing foothill into the top 5…they have more big wins than pitt, logan, berkeley, cal and so on…yes cal beat them, but wash beat cal and logan beat wash and foothill beat logan…so good luck sorting that one out…

i think bhigh and logan definate 6 & 7 order who knows…then cal and pitt probably take the 8 9 game…pitt & wash only common opponent is dv and they played them closer so that will bump them ahead of wash i think now..cal is going to get much higher coaches rankings than wash which will slide them ahead of wash as well…then wash srv and sl battling from there…srv ones common opponent with wash is cal, so wash wins that one…srv has the foothill win but probably not enough…sl is 8-2 but only 3 d1 wins…but they very well could get 10 and wash 11 and then srv 12…13-16 pretty well set in stone…

but remember gonna be a nightmare, which is where the ebal coaches rankings are gonna push most of their teams up…

When El Cerrito beat Pinole the better Athletic team won.Trust me on that.

All Day, I don’t know if you were at this game, but trust me on this … El Cerrito got help from the stupid zebras in that game. I personally saw one holding call not get called on 4th down and 4 yards which would have gotten stopped. El Cerrito then went on to score their first touchdown. Then at the end of the game, the line judge took about 10 seconds to place the ball down to allow Pinole to spike the ball with 2 seconds left in the game (this cost Pinole at least one more attempt to score the game winner). The final score should have and would have without the Ref screwing things up … Pinole 13 (maybe 20) to El Cerrito 10. You can Trust me on that!!!!

Point taken Wannaknow, but how do you presume that our seed would go up after PV was slated as 4 TD underdogs to Berkeley according to some on here…It looked like if things played out like they “supposed” to have, predictions had PV at 11 or 12 seed right? You make it seem a little too obvious when this side of CoCo county gets NO LOVE in the papers an in NCS.
Thank you Jimmy D for your excellent analysis, that was just what I was looking for.

Now I can’t comment negatively about coach Alameda’s play calling…..Each week is different and it’s all about the matchups. If coach feels he has advantage with smash mouth football, then so be it..it obviously paid off for PV, so I wouldn’t knock him just yet. Let’s just say what it is you and many others are trying to say, (some in not so as nice words as you put it):
PV (and B-Hi for that matter) will be knocked out in the first round of NCS play because they don’t showcase a solid passing game. Is that right?

That’ OK – If other teams down the road don’t respect the passing game that might be playing into the master plan..go figure..can’t speak for B-Hi but for PV, it’s a whole new world after the win over Berkeley.

Lets just give credit where credit is due without couching it:

A high seeded D1 HS with a monster back that’s used to finding the end-zone easy, in search of the EB Rushing title, on their home turf, lost to a scrappy D2 in a HECK of a defensive match-up. That’s all I’m saying.. Excuse me for calling it.

Also, I won’t go into why PV lost focus at Alameda and then EC.. lets just say this ain’t the same team it was two weeks ago. Bottom line:
ACCAL still gets NO RESPECT, but I don’t think thats this what we’re after chopping it up on these boards, right? The KIDS will do their talking on the field.
    Mark my words.

    DON’T SLEEP.

  88. shabawler Says:

Word to Spartan83 on the loss at EC, there was a blatant hold that was a not called, and more bad officiating in the final goal line situation with time running out..you can trust me on this as well.

The refs got paid off big by the Gauachos and probably got a HJ for calling such a “great” game.

    DON’T SLEEP.

  89. Spartan83 Says:

Shabawler, Maybe you won’t knock on Coach Alameda, but I will too a point. While I believe he’s one of the better coaches in the ACCAL, I’m shocked at the lack of game adjustments at half time. In our only true lost to Alameda, my son tells me that he didn’t even show up in the locker room and that the assistant coaches told the kids to tackle better. (at this point they were only down 7-0) What I saw was both lines we’re getting beaten and no adjustments were made to slow Alameda down (such as screen passes, shotgun formations … something). In the Richmond game, he screamed at the boys and told them that this years offensive team was the worst he’s ever coached and then called out his quarterback (who then quit the team from the verbal abuse he took). I don’t see how screaming at them helps. In that game the field was wet, the temp was cold and the ball was hard to hold on too (ask the Richmond players, I’m sure they’ll concur). I just hope he can relax and develop a passing game to go with our outstanding defense and running game. Otherwise, we’ll be saying better luck next year.

  90. Prep Fan Says:

I still think the EBAL teams should be slotted based on their league records, as they each played the same schedules against each other. Foothill, while they nice wins against AV and MV, lost to Granada & were soundly beaten by both SRV & Cal and should remain behind both of them. The EBAL teams should fall into this order, and the teams from other leagues should be placed around them as they are deserving. Foothill, despite their great win last night, tied for 5th place in the EBAL. To put Foothill ahead of Cal or SRV would be an injustice.

    DLS 7-0
    AV 5-2
    MV 4-3 (Beat Cal)
    Cal 4-3
    SRV 3-4 (Beat Foothill)
    Foothill 3-4
    Granada 2-5 (Out of playoffs)
    Livermore 0-7 (Out of playoffs)

  91. shabawler Says:

Spartan83 your a realist, and I commend you for that.
I didn’t want to bring up what goes on behind the scenes and go into that intimate detail because I really didn’t want to spoil the win for the boys, but rather focus on the positives. Sure, the playcalling is unquestionable to some, when it doesn’t work.. I saw to Sidney after the game and you’re absolutely right screaming won’t help the kids – no one deserves that. But as a QB you are the leader of the Offense, this is your team…no one wanted more to be out there than that kid, what happened was very unfortunate..that said I know Octavius will step up to the plate in the play-offs and I’m sure there will be some adjustments made as well. Friday’s win over Berkeley will be inspiration for the coaching staff to pull out old play book and bring new life to the offense.
I’m not defending Coach; winning is a tradition at Pinole, no one knows it more than coach Steve Alameda. I know your frustrations, but I know for a fact it was very emotional in the post-game huddle. Coach Alameda clearly stated he has NEVER been more proud of a team who can rally like that in the 2nd half to pull off a win. He believes in them, and brother you should too.

    DON’T SLEEP!

  92. FOOTBALL PHENATIK Says:

RICKEY GALVIN is still the best back in the East bay! Rickey gets the chance to play at the next level which at the end of the day is better than any league MVP or numbers. Those who thinks he is over-rated shows you don’t know him and continue to hate.

    Run Rickey Run!

  93. NCSPlayoffMan Says:

I agree with NorCals post on potential Division I playoff seeds above. It is a very close call between De La Salle and Deer Valley, but after that it is anybody’s guess for the lower seeds than that.

D-II it will be hard to unseat Petaluma, looking strong at 10-0 and home field advantage through the opening rounds. But look at Concord, YV, Pinole, and maybe Windsor, all capable of winning until they see Petaluma?

D-III Top seeds might be Encinal, Marin Catholic, Alhambra, Novato, El Cerrito, Healdsburg, Fortuna and Piedmont. The game will be Encinal vs. either Marin Catholic or Alhambra.

D-IV watch out for St. Mary’s and Ferndale, and Middletown is supposed to be stacked with size

Sunday will be interesting as the playoff seeds unfold.

  94. NBFB Says:

NCSplayoffMan, Do not forget about Montgomery, Casa Grande or Newman in D2

  95. Donut Says:

FOOTBALL PHENATIK WHO IS SAYING ANY OF THOSE THINGS?

The loss is a loss thats all we talking about?!

Course Rickey still is ACCAL MVP and #2 Back behind Terron Ward for All East Bay Team

  96. Donut Says:

my take on it is…(records vs NCS opponents) and EBAL teams just like BVAL and MVAL teams have to be seeded according to League Finish!

    #1 De La Salle undefeated
#2 Deer Valley beat JL, Wash, Pitt, Heritage
#3 Amador Valley beat MV, Cal, SRV, lost to DLS, Foothill
#4 Monte Vista beat JL, Cal, SRV, lost to DLS, AV, Foothill
    #5 Berkeley beat Pitt
#6 James Logan lost to DV, MV & Foothill, beat Wash
#7 Washington lost to DV & JL, beat Cal
#8 Pittsburg lost to DV, MV and B-Hi
#9 California lost to DLS, AV, MV, Wash.. beat SRV, FH
#10 San Ramon Valley lost to DLS, AV, MV, Cal.. beat FH
#11 Foothill lost to DLS, Cal, SRV.. beat AV, MV, JL (THE QUESTION IS ARE THOSE WINS UPSETS OR ARE THE LOSSES UPSETS?? HMM SO CONFUSING)
#12 San Leandro didnt play anybody in NCS
#13 Heritage lost to DV, MV, Pitt
#14 Newark Memorial lost to JL, Wash
#15 College Park lost to Wash
#16 American lost to JL, Wash, NM

  97. renegades10 Says:

wannaknow- EBAL gives its MVP award out to a player on league champ so it will be a DLS player. Most likely Ward but also might be Dylan Wynn.

  98. Mike Says:

just what everybody’s been saying, this is most likely

#1 De La Salle vs #16 American
#2 Deer Valley vs #15 College Park
#3 Amador Valley vs #14 Newark Memorial
#4 Monte Vista? vs #13 Heritage
#5 Berkeley vs #12 San Leandro?
    #6 Pitt/Logan? vs #11 Foothill/SRV?
    #7 Logan/Pitt? vs #10 SRV/Foothill?
    #8 Washington vs #9 California

Thats the general logic I’ve found so far.. some switches because what is the determination Pitt over Logan or Logan over Pitt? And Will Foothill’s upset of Amador leap them over SRV, who beat them head to head??

that makes the round of 8

#1 De La Salle vs #8 seeded winner
#2 Deer Valley vs #7 seeded winner
#3 Amador Valley vs #6 seeded winner
#4 Monte Vista vs #5 seeded winner

That will most likely be the final four. You can count on that. Will Berkeley be in there somewhere? Who Knows? How about Foothill? You have to believe given how talented Cal High and Pittsburg are they will make it. Seeds undetermined right now

but my favorite 8 in no order are
De La Salle, Deer Valley, Amador Valley, Monte Vista, Berkeley, Cal High, Pittsburg and Foothill

  99. old former meddling coach. Says:

On Coach Alameda, I met Coach when i was a Young Varsity Assistant Coach and he was Vice principal At Kennedy And a few times he gave me valuable Advice. He knows the game. I have never been a screamer as a coach,But some do it and it is their style. We all will never agree with another Coaches play calling and style or methods but as long as the kids are learning and growing and are not being hurt at all by the coaching but are thriving it should be ok. I didn’t like my son being yelled at and i think none of us really do(Unless we are doing the yelling)But i knew and saw that it would only make him stronger. Give Coach the benefit of the Doubt. He’s Been around. Jet Pride!

  100. junior Says:

My vote for EBAL MVP: Stancil/Turray co MVP’s. They have been stellar all year-impressive playmaking ability by both.

I’d have a tough time picking from the DLS squad. Ward and Wynn are good thoughts, but based on consistent outstanding performances, the enitre front four is most deserving. Why not a Wynn, Lawrence, Waldren, Marre sharing of MVP? They have been dominate this year.

  101. JG Says:

mandown i think your mentally retarded. all your predictions are wrong and you talk like a douche bag.

    YOUR A MARK.

  102. Prep Fan Says:

I don’t think the EBAL has to give the MVP to a memeber of the 1st place team. Just because it has happened often doesn’t mean it is cast in stone. It is just that the first place team most likely has some really good players. But, I could see it going to someone else like maybe a Stancil or Turray. If they had finished9-1, they would have a better shot at it, just as Nottingham or Mannion may have had a shot at it had they finished 9-1. Watching the game last night, no one really stood out for DLS because the team as a whole has such great athletes. It will be an interesting pic this year, as tere really is no shoe-in candidate that has it sewn up.

  103. Kyle Bonagura Says:

There is a long-standing EBAL tradition that the league champ gets the MVP.

No doubt the front-four has been great, but I think Ward is nearly a shoe-in at this point.

  104. bigjoe Says:

Give the EBAL MVP to Ward. He went both ways, along with special teams, he’s Maurcie Drew the 11, and he’s a game maker. They rode his back through the league, he’s humble and get’s the job done. Another success at De La Salle. His old man and brother both played Div 1 and beyond- he’s a natural- lot’s of great attitude.

  105. donut Says:

bigjoe get off their nuts. instead of pumping up background stories you could admit there’s other playmakers who meant more or just as much to their team. but since it is tradition, ebal tradition before de la salle came, the mvp will be given to best player on league champ. i actually agree ward deserves it, but so did dalton&turray for what they did this season. at a public school. that last sentence as well as the very first was sarcasm so dont buy to much into it.

still waiting for that berkeley/deer valley/amador valley rematch. lol

  106. Spartan83 Says:

Hey I don’t want to give anyone the idea that I hate Coach Alameda, as I respect the man. But sometimes I wonder if he see’s what we see. I really didn’t want to bring up the behind the scenes thing, but my feelings towards these young players sometimes gets the best of me. I don’t doubt that Coach does a great job, but we can all do alittle better. If the offense isn’t working, why do we continue to do the same thing. Let’s change it up alittle … perhaps some play action to help get the passing game going or some screen plays if the line is performing poorly. Trust me Shabawler, I believe in the kids! But the kids run the plays that Coach calls, and if we don’t make adjustments when things aren’t going our way, we will be in trouble in the playoffs. That said …. GO SPARTANS!!! Oh, and my son hopes my mouth isn’t getting him in trouble (ha,ha).

  107. shabawler Says:

@OFMC, I didn’t realize you were so connected to the game. From the sidelines Coach really never shows any emotion and doesn’t embarrass his players in public.

Hey Spartan83 I feel you man..kids are coached what plays to execute based on coaching decisions; sometimes the decision to adjust to what defenses are showing are not made accordingly or soon enough to the approval of the fans. I knew you believed in the kids from the get or else we wouldn’t have have come out in force Friday night. From one parent to another, I wouldn’t want my kid getting hollered at so I don’t blame your passion. Your doing a great job showing love for your kid and supporting the team as a whole. Believe me, change is coming and PV Blue and Gold will show and prove.
    GO PV SPARTANS!!!!!

    DON’T SLEEP.
