  1. Big Joe Says:

I count 10 private schools in D 4 and 5 playoffs. Good job!

  2. HS Football Fan Says:

This bracket makes so much sense (compared to the D-II and D-III ones so far) that I almost wonder if the same committee made it up. St. Mary’s beat Salesian, Salesian beat Middletown, so those three seeds seemed pretty much guaranteed to rank them that way. By putting St. Mary’s at 1 and Ferndale at 2, they guaranteed that neither of those two potential rematches would occur until the finals. Sets up for a potential final four of Middletown at St. Mary’s and Salesian at Ferndale.

  3. Panther Fan Says:

WOW!! #1 seed. That is thrilling! This is a strong statement to the year the Panthers have had. It is also a loud and definitive testament to the job that Coach Keith Minor and his assistance have done in their first year at SM.

To all the players – congratulations and great job! Take that as an honor, but more importantly, TAKE IT AS A CHALLENGE! This does not mean you are the best team in D4 NCS. This means you have positioned yourselves to prove you are so.

The second season is upon us. This is the “money time.” Every yard gained or tackle accomplished in the regular season is irrelevant at this point. Now the only stats that matter are wins. 3 wins to fulfill your goals as a team. 3 wins to cement your place in SM history. 3 wins to create a memory that will live with you all for the rest of your life.

THINK BIG PANTHERS! Reach for the ultimate team goal. A Section Championship. Focus on the little things and big things will happen. Work harder than you have ever worked and good things will happen. Best believe the competition has the same goals and is willing to sacrifice as much as you are. Be confident and come together. There is nothing you can’t accomplish if you continue commit to each other!

Regardless of the outcome you have made your coaches, parents, extended family, fellow students, and community very proud.

Good luck to all the players and coaches in all divisions. Compete and be healthy!!

    Go Panthers!

  4. HS Football Fan Says:

I don’t think any coach wants to play Justin Siena in the first round and I wouldn’t be surprised if Ferndale is quite happy with the #2 seed. I think St. Mary’s got a bad break with their second game having to play against reigning NCS DIV champion Justin Sienna who will probably beat Berean Christian.

I respect Saint Mary’s however I can see Justin Siena, who plays only DIII teams, handling St. Mary’s in the second round and then beating Middletown in the semifinals, to make it back to the championship game for the second year in a row. In the lower half of the bracket I can see any one of 3 or 4 teams making it to the championship game. McKinleyville played a VERY tough game against Ferndale. I for one feel it is time for Justin Sienna to move up to Division III as those are the only teams they play all year anyway. Ferndale is able to play up year in and year out. It’s time to move up, Justin Sienna!

  5. All Day Says:

HS Football Fan, If Justin Siena were to move to DIII I think it would make sense for them to move to the SCAC in the Sac-Jaquien Section since they are located in Napa and that conference is a DIII conference.Hogan HS will be closing next year so it can be a easy transition for them.

  6. All Day Says:

Panther Fan, good luck to your Panthers, pls. tell DBR to GO Hard Every Play!

  7. GoJo Says:

Salesian will be a factor in this bracket. Soft schedule but loads of talent, look for them to make it to the finals.

  8. Joe Says:

I think Justin was seeded too low. Think of the probable records of the higher seeded teams if they played all Division III teams as Justin does. These inflated 10-0, 9-1, 8-2 records against weak Division IV teams would be very different. However, lets play the games and see what happens.

  9. Panther Fan Says:

HS Football Fan – No issues at all with your breakdown. You make reasonable points. I don’t really have a counter argument. The only thing I would point out is that SM also plays mostly teams above D4

    Heritage – D1 – Lost by 32
    Acalanes – D3 – Won by 15
    Piedmont – D3 – Won by 14
    Moroeu – D3 – Won by 39
    Encinal – D3 – Lost by 7
    Albany – D3 – Won by 30

So against D3 teams SM was 4-1 (2 of those wins were against teams that are in the playoffs). Out of the D4 schools SM played are they went 3-0. That includes the #3 seed (Salesian, won by 6) and the #6 seed (St. Pat’s, won by 7).

I point this out to suggest that Justin and SM have that in common. That being said, Justin certainly has the recent playoff experience and will be a lot to handle.

All Day – Thanks for the well wishes. I will make sure DBR gets your shot out.

Gojo – There is no doubt Salesian is going to be a factor in this division. Loads of respect for their coach and players. I think this D4 bracket will be exciting and highly competive.

    Go Panthers!

  10. Matt Rempel Says:

Nice to see Valley Christian make the playoffs in their first full year.
Here’s hoping they can get it done up in Cloverdale. They have some
good running backs, but are suspect on defense. All the best to the Vikings!!!

  11. Salesian Says:

    Salesian is the best team.

  12. salesian 58 Says:

    ferndale #2?? wtf

  13. Nick Says:

I have great respect for the football program at Ferndale. However, they build great records against very weak teams. As a result, the placement committees each year seed them very high because of the 10-0 records. The press almost hyperventalates over Ferndale. Based on this seeding, teams have to travel great distances to Ferndale and play on a field that – to be very kind – is very substandard. This is a 1-2 touchdown advantage for Ferndale. Last year, when Ferndale finally met a decent team (Justin Siena) they lost. This year I predict the same thing will happen to them when they meet Salesian. I am not a Salesian supporter but I think they are the best team in the lower half of the bracket.

  14. Bill Says:

i don’t understand all the hate towards ferndale. they may play “weaker” teams, but then they move up for the playoffs. and if i recall correctly they have won the class A/ Division 4 championship a few times. and then complaining about going “the way to humboldt county”, what about if ferndale had to travel down there(which they did when they beat st pats 2 years ago) nobody says poor ferndale and you know what? ferndale doesn’t complain either.

  15. Mick Says:

Well Mr. Nick, let me give you and whiner Salesian 58 some reasons to respect Ferndale. In the past 18 years Ferndale’s over-all record is 187-36, including 7 NCS titles, and runners up on 4 occaisions. Since 2002, the Wildcats have won 90 0f 97 games, and have a streak of 28 regular season games without allowing any first quarter points. ALL of this from a student body of 160. Ferndale is a Div.V school that steps up to play Div IV. during the playoffs. This year as usual, the Wildcats played D-III/IV teams with the exception their own league that consist of 1 D-IV and 4 D-V teams, all having student bodies larger than Ferndale. Of the 5 teams in thier conference, 4 made it to either D-IV or D-V playoffs. As far as traveling great distances to play on a substandard????field. I believe anyone ignorant enough to beleive that a natural grass field without lights is a 2 TD advantage, would find any reason for a highly funded Bay Area team to play poorly in those awful conditions….As far as Salesian58…Maybe you should have beat St. Mary’s so you wouldn’t have to bitch. There is one thing Ferndale can accomplish that Salesian can’t….an undefeted season. See what you can do about that!!!

  16. KillerD Says:

I am fond of the D4 playoff bracket, lots of quality teams, playing Big Time small town fun to be at football:

St. Mary’s will be at Middletown in Round Three —
It is tricky because Middletown is a league champ, the Panthers who lobbied hard to be ranked # 1 and certainly are worhty of it in a coin flip between them and Ferndale, now must face the daunting task of playing an outstanding Middletown or Cloverdale team. But, if St. Mary’s had received the 2nd seed, their path might have been easier to title glory? Prediction on this game after St. Mary’s defeats Justin Siena and the M-town vs. Cloverdale game shakes out.

McKinleyville vs. Fort Bragg – McKinleyville beat MacClymonds in Oakland, a huge win. And, they battled a great Ferndale team tight. Fort Bragg started off gangbusters in 2009 then stubbed their toe twice. Fort Bragg is tough at home on the coast in their beautiful little stadium covered in fog. McKinleyville if healthy enough will give FB a very tight game that goes down to the wire. Fort Bragg by 1 point.

St. Patrick’s vs. Clear Lake – St. Patricks will make a statement that this year’s BSAL is outstanding, with two # 1 seeds in the playoffs – Encinal and St. Mary’s, and two other teams worthy of respect up front. The Bruins desperately want a Rematch with Salesian to avenge the early season loss, and they will get it after beating Clear Lake.

  17. Sean M Says:

    Hey PantherFan,

It was nice chatting with you this season. Congrats to Saint Mary’s and your son for a great season! I am hopeful he is recognized for his talent is able to chose from several good schools, play some ball, and get a good education. I also just wanted to say that you showed real class when a couple of knuckleheads went way over the line on this blog. Clearly you are fine example to your son.

Since Moreau didn’t make it to NCS I will be rooting for all the BSAL teams (Encinal, St.Mary’s, SPSV, and Piedmont) to earn some well deserved respect for this league.

Watch out for Moreau next year!

  18. old former meddling coach. Says:

Sean M., Number 58 was a beast! Jet Pride!

  19. Joe Says:

    Mick from Ferndale,
Keep cool. Nick’s first statement is that he respected Ferndale – he just thinks they get more credit for a 10-0 record against weak teams than they deserve. For a small school they have a GREAT football program. However, do you honestly think Ferndale would have a 10-0 record if they played all Div III teams? How would they do against Marin Catholic and Novado? Lose at least 40-0.
I have been on the Ferndale field and it is less than sub-standard. Many coaches think Ferndale keeps the field in bad shape as a strategy against their opponents. If you do not think that having a team travel 4-5 hours and then play in a cow pasture with “homer” refs is not a 1-2 TD disadvantage then you do not understand football.
Ferndale will lose as soon as they play an away game against a quality opponent.

  20. BigJoe Says:

Ferndale is for real. I saw them beat St. Pat’s for the Div 4 crown 2 yrs ago. They beat a team who had 9 all-Vallejo players and 7 all regional players, a Div 1 and Div 2 player. Ferndale lost earlier in the yr to the same team but made big time adjustments in the playoff final. This Sthey have beat Salesian and Justin in the past also.PSV team beat Salesian and Javid Best the yr before. They also beat many Div 3 and some Div 2 teams over a 23-3 record for 2 yrs.
Don’t take Ferndale lightly. Only 2 coaches in the last 25 yrs- discinpline-strong and fast,

  21. Panther Fan Says:

Sean M – The pleasure has been mine. Thank you for your kind words. I actually have always enjoyed verbal sparring. In my neighborhood we called it the dozens or capping or bagging. We would go at it for hours. Only the strong could survive. I always love exposing someone’s weakness and my boy had a lot of weaknesses. Lol. But Sean re you leaving the blog?? Hang in til the playoffs are over.

Things are going well for DBR. Thank you for the good wishes. We will find the right place for him. It’s always good to have options.

I will stay tuned next year to Moreau’s growth. They took a big step this year and have a fine JV squad coming up. I remember our game against MC. I had a very pleasant exchange with one of the assistant coaches who had some very complimentary things to say about my boy. I was very appreciative of his words.

Ofm Coach – I WILL get to a Jet’s playoff game, unless they are on the same day as my Panthers.

I agree with Sean M. I am rooting for the BSAL to show up in the playoffs and claim our place as one of the better leagues. Let’s band together as fans of our league and pull for one another. Everyone wins if we show well.

    Go Panthers! And Go BSAL!!

  22. Scl alum Says:

What is the assesment of the Willits -Salesian matchup? Any Willits fans online?

  23. Scl alum Says:

Any predictions on the Fort Bragg – McKinleyville game?

  24. salesian tho! Says:

yeah…..i want st mary’s in the championship game!

  25. Joe Says:

I think the seeds should be:
    1. St. Mary
    2. Salesian
    3. Justin Siena
    4. Middletown
    5. St P/St V
    6. Ferndale
    7. Cloverdale

  26. Neil Tarpey Says:

Congratulations to all the teams in this year’s D-IV playoffs, particularly to St. Mary’s for the No. 1 seed. I look forward to watching/hearing about/reading the scores of the NCS games. As a sportswriter — and at age 58, not a young one — this season I have covered games for 8 of the 9 high schools in the Humboldt-Del Norte League. I agree with several comments that the Bay Area D-IV schools often face tough competition against D-II or D-III schools. Because of our geographic isolation up north, teams here must play each other as well as travel a long way to play out of the area (e.g. McKinleyville down to McClymonds, Eureka down to Castlemont, Hoopa to Sacramento). So, when Ferndale (a D-V school of only 163 who petitions every year to play up in D-IV) ) travels north to play at Del Norte (a D-III school of 1201) — who lost 18-14 to Novato in the 2007 NCS semifinals — and Ferndale wins 47-6, well that’s a big victory for a small school. And when Ferndale squares off every year with its neighbor across the Eel River, D-III Fortuna — who beat Piedmont in last year’s NCS playoffs — and wins 7 straight years, that’s another big victory up here. As for coaching, regarding Big Joe’s comment (No. 20) about Ferndale … they have actually had just two coaches (including the current one) in the past 43 years, not 25 years. That’s stability and longevity. Guys like Salesian’s Coach Nightingale and Justin-Siena’s Coach Cotruvo are very well-respected up here. And, if you talk with them, or coaches who know football, they will tell you they have the same high regard for Ferndale’s coach (Jorgensen). As for the grass field issue, 8 of the 9 nine high schools in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties play on grass fields. And, come November, it rains up here. But at least Ferndale has the benefit of a new irrigation system and, unlike other schools, its soccer team does not use the football field. But the “old” Ferndale field did not prevent Salesian’s Jahvid Best from running almost 200 yards against Ferndale in the 14-8 playoff game in 2006. Who will win the D-IV this year? While many of us have ideas of the possible finalists, I agree with the adage, “On any given day…”

  27. Mick Says:

Well Joe#19, I was not going to waste my time, but my tongue was bleeding. What don’t you understand about a school of 163 students (Div V), stepping up to play Div IV in the playoffs, and for the past 18 years, winning 7 NCS titles, and being the runners up on 4 other occaisions, beating a number of DIV III/IV teams on their way. What small school team has performed on that level in your neighborhood?? I’m sure you’re not speaking for a lot of coaches when making the statement,”many coaches think Ferndale keeps the field in bad shape as a strategy against their opponents”. That not only shows your inability to think rationaly, but also makes me wonder really how much you know of this game. You continue with your rant by saying, “If you do not think that having a team travel 4-5 hours and then play in a cow pasture with “homer refs” is not a 1-2 TD disadvantage then you do not understand football”. Well sir, I know enough about football to tell you that if a team is not able to adapt to the conditions,ie weather/travel, that’s a weekness in the team. All I’m reading is how so many “Bay Area Brats” are complaining about having to travel 4-5 hours to have to play Eureka, or Ferndale. So many concerned about the weather and the travel….NOT THE KIDS!!! No, people like you that have to have everything shinning and polished and perfect. The kids, most of them, just want to play the game. If you ever played the game, did you care if you got your feet wet? Yes, it might be wet or muddy, but the game wasn’t suppose to be an advantage based on conditions, but rather a teams ability to handle those conditions. Yes sir I do know enough about the game that I know it’s the kids that want to play, no matter what, and it’s the complainers that don’t want to drive “all that way” or sit in the rain, that should just stay away and let the boys enjoy the game. Do you think they feel down by 2 TD’s when they get off the bus? That’s just an excuse for a team that’s not strong enough to adapt. You questioned my ability to understand football. Let me clarify for you. I was a member of the 1966 Wildcats. The 1st Championship team of this now 43 year dynasty. I also was a member of the 1968 State JC Championship team and recently inducted into thier hall of fame. I’ve also coached, on and off for 30 years. So I feel qualified enough to say I understand the game enough to tell you that an excuse is nothing more than a lie, wrapped with a reason!!! I do agree with you on one thing. Ferndale has a GREAT Program for any size school. So I’m assuming by your comment about Ferndale losing on the road, that would be in the championship game. GOOD CALL! Except the losing part. We’ll just have to wait and see. By the way, Ferndale has never in 43 years been beat by anyone 40-0. So to your irrational question, no, I could rationally claim Ferndale would not lose 40-0 to either of those teams. This is as cool as I get…..

  28. Joe Says:

    Mick-Mick-Mick
You are the definition of a “homer” who can not see past his love of his school. On two posts I have said that I had great respect for Ferndale. They are clearly tough, dedicated players with excellent coaching. Their quality year-after-year is amazing.
I choose not to say what school I support, but I will say I have been a coach on a team that has recently defeated Ferndale and played Marin Cath and Novado. Those two schools would make short work of Ferndale.

  29. FOX Says:

Great posts #25, #26, #27. Kinda cleared up a few questions for me! Thanks.

  30. Mick Says:

Joe-Joe Joe, Thanks for defining your judgement of me. But again I should correct you, and say that I have a love of the game. It is fortunate for me that I was a part of a great program at Ferndale, but I am not shallow or ignorant enough to assume that Ferndale is unbeatable…..They aren’t!!! But at least the fans of the Wildcats don’t cry when they feel they have been shorted on the seedings, and have to travel to your unfamiliar and quite often unfriendly confines. Visiting teams that travel to Ferndale are always treated with respect…WIN or LOSE!!! You would know that if you were there. Yes, I do love my alma mater, but not to the point of being blinded by my own assumptions or oppinions of the game itself. Unlike you however, I am proud to be associated with the Wildcats, and not at all embarassed to claim that they are the team that has my support. What team is it that “you choose” not to mention???? I’m guessing it’s an average 5-5 team that wouldn’t have even been in the playoffs had it not been a 16 team foremat. And we all know that they definatly would not have made DIV III playoffs, where they actually belong. So become a “homer”, because of your ability to be critical of others and not “choose” to say what school you represent, I would guess you are qualified. Have some pride!!!

  31. Mick Says:

Sorry Joe, my mistake…I meant 14 team foremat. Please forgive my haste….

  32. Joe Says:

    Mick-Mick-Mick
There you go again with incorrect statements. This 5-5 team finished with a 5-2 record in the tough Marin County Conference which would have put us in the Division III playoff. This conference is made-up of Div II and Div III teams – not DivV teams. In fact, this team beat 2 teams in the Division III pairings. We lost to the #2 and #4 Division III teams. We beat one Div III playoff team 48-14 and another Div III playoff team 37-14. This would have clearly put us in the Div III playoffs.
You make some strange statements for someone who thinks they know football.

  33. Mick Says:

Well Joe ,Point out any incorrect statements I’ve made in the past post??? You’ve just proved my indirect point!! It’s all about you Joe… You can throw all the stats out there you want, but that is no indication you know, or have even have played the sport. You seem to try to clutter the picture with your game time, mean nothing, stats, as a cover for what you really know about the game as a participate….NOTHING!!! It’s obvious to everyone that your nothing more than a stat nerd, and probably never took a hit harder than a kick in the butt for being a smart ass. If you did play the game you would know that you can take all those fancy computer generated stats and stick them!!! Heart, dedication, and the ability to adapt to the situation, are the true signs of a great team, not seedings or stength of schedule. Those stats only give people, as yourself something that you can use to try to fool people into thinking you actually know the sport. I’m guessing as a supposed coach you were the clipboard stat guy, as you certanly would have sucked trying to teach computer generated football to children.. I’m through with you and your BS. After reviewing your previous post, you are nothing more than a pencil pushing nerd that likes to whine and confront anyone you can that doesn’t agree with your pretzel-logic approach to this game of football. And you still haven’t got the pride to mention the team you support…Your a real fan…NOT!!!!!!

  34. Joe Says:

    Mick,
Wrong again. When you are caught giving overly emotional, incorrect statements you respond by spewing insults that are unfounded and unprofessional. I played in HS for 4 years, at the Jr college level for two years and for a Div 1 team (major college level) in college for two years that was nationally ranked in the top 20 in the nation. I was not a starter but I got a lot of game time as a back-up.
This is a little higher level than your Div V HS background.
No need to respond – I will not check this board again – I do not have time to spend with a name-calling person who does not want to have a reasonable and gentlemanly debate.
Good luck to Ferndale in the play-offs. As I have said in several posts they have a great program with great kids and great coaching.

  35. yomama Says:

Wow! You white mamas’ is goin” at it. Calm down, both have good points. I played 4 yrs Hs, 4 yrs major and 2 yrs USFL, so I got it over ya! When I say Ferndale is good, they’re good- they can be beat-but it takes lots of prep and very good coaching. SPSV lost a tight one to them in final in 2007, could have one- some bad calls in 2nd half- Merkins broke one for a potential TD, but no face mask called. However, that’s why they play the game. The SPSV 2006 champs with the 3600 yd 2 running backs did not face them, however, they most likely would have taken them.

  36. Big Joe Says:

Panther Fan, looks like Justin Sienna gets SMCHS next Sat,. I’ll be there.
Just for you info, my nephew plays on Justin and is a very good player, 6’4- 225 lbs. Coach Corturvo, although I don’t like him, is a very well healed coach and lots of accomplishments, CAL honor coach last year and has been in the playoffs many times and actually won the whole enchillada on 2 occasions.
With that said, I’ll be checking both sidelines, would like SMCHS take it to the Napa school.
Fact- matter of fact Jack- Justin Sienna ia SMCHS sister school, started back in 1968. They are not run by the Christian Bros any more, run by the Diocese. De La is SMCHS orginal school, opened in 1965. CB all the way, if you want a true Christian Bros. education try that CB VSOP Brandy for the holidays.
    Coaching- Advanatge – Justin
    speed- SMCHS
    altheles- SMCHS
    Disclipline- Justin

It’s going to either be very tight or high scoring with no defense. I think no defense on either side and a freeakin’ shootout.
When I and my teammates walk that field, the red sea is going to open like for Moses. Knows a lot of people. Hope SM can do it, however, my nephew is going to spank some Panther butt if they come his way- he’s got game. Predicition SM 35- 28. You tell that guru-b rown and sissy murdoc I’ll give them my autograph if they show up. Bells at the Bridge! That means singing the Bells of St. Mary’s when the teams returned crossing Perelta Park Creek after victory. Kind of like crossing the Rubicon when generals returned to Rome with their armies, be ready to take over if the Republic changed since you were away conquering others.

  37. Justin-Siena Fan Says:

The expansion of Div IV was a success except that the expansion should have been to 10 teams – not 14. Clearly Harker, Willits, Clear Lake did not have play-off caliber teams this year and suffered very one-sided losses.
Another annual problem is the seedings. It is difficult to seed Div IV teams because they have GREATLY different quality of opponents during the regular season. This makes the W-L records very deceiving. As mentioned in previous posts, only St. Mary and Justin-Siena have difficult schedules against mostly Div III schools. In Justin’s case, that resulted in a lower record. The seeding committee got too impressed with W-L records and did not reasonably consider the quality of competition that led to that record. Does anyone believe that J_S would not be undefeated if we played Ferndale’s schedule (this is not a knock on Ferndale – they are a fine school with a great football tradition).
J-S was ranked 9th but we beat a higher seed on Saturday by THREE touchdowns. In addition, Valley Christian(#12) beat the #5 seed. In both thse cases the 9-2 record of Bernean and the 9-1 record of Cloverdale caused the committe to seed them above teams that were clearly better.
Congratulations to the winners this week and may the best team win. I think it will probably be a St. Mary / Salesion final with J-S and SPSV as possibles.

  38. Scl alum Says:

I got a kick out of the scene from ‘Bruce Alhighty’, when he was in the diner, and his soup parted like the red sea, speaking of Moses lol

  39. Scl alum Says:

    *Almighty

  40. yo mama Says:

Wow! St. Mary’s vs. Justin-Sienna, Salesian vs. St. Patrick’s. Sounds like the Pope is coming to town.
I know, public haters, these kids get 3 squares a day and have daddies. Ok, except for Justin, the other 3 schools are inner-city.

  41. JP Says:

    Go Valley Christian!!!
First year Varsity team makes it to playoffs and wins first round over 5th seated Cloverdale!
Valley Christians record may not look so pretty, but thats because of all the D 1, 2, and 3, teams they played played out of league.

  42. fbmom Says:

I find it very humorous that with all the ranting on here between Mick and Joe, that neither even talked about the game they were going to be playing against Fort Bragg. Joe’s comments above “I have been on the Ferndale field and it is less than sub-standard. Many coaches think Ferndale keeps the field in bad shape as a strategy against their opponents. If you do not think that having a team travel 4-5 hours and then play in a cow pasture with “homer” refs is not a 1-2 TD disadvantage then you do not understand football.” None of this mattered to FB. Travel is common for FB, field wasn’t that bad and refs were pretty good.

  43. bob Says:

Nice post fbmom!!! And good job Fort Bragg!

  44. Ferndale Football Says:

This post is made to specifically refute claims made by know-nothings like Nick and Joe. Although I agree with Nick about Justin-Siena being seeded too low and possibly overlooked by opponents (I picked them to win over St. Mary’s), his statement that “teams have to travel great distances to Ferndale and play on a field that – to be very kind – is very substandard,” is simply ludicrous. Then idiot Joe chimes in with, “I have been on the Ferndale field and it is less than sub-standard. Many coaches think Ferndale keeps the field in bad shape as a strategy against their opponents. If you do not think that having a team travel 4-5 hours and then play in a cow pasture with “homer” refs is not a 1-2 TD disadvantage then you do not understand football.” I laughed out load when I read this drivel. Joe, I highly doubt you have been on Ferndale’s field. The Wildcats utilize team speed just as much as the next opponent. They have very quick players…. why would they neglect the field and remove a possible weapon of their own? Hilarious. Ferndale also does not complain when they have to travel that same 4-5 hours to play. As in the 2007 Championship game played in Martinez against St. Pat/St. Vin who were a mere 12 MILES AWAY. And finally, “homer” refs huh? First, the referees are assigned by the NCS and they definitely aren’t homers. You could have witnessed that first hand had you been here for the Fort Bragg game. These “homers” blew two potentially momentum-changing calls against the Wildcats. Ask any fan from either side that. The calls did not lead directly to points for Fort Bragg but they kept drives alive for the Timberwolves. I am not saying they were the reason for the loss, I give all the credit completely to Fort Bragg. It was an excellent high school football game.

To further discredit these garbage claims about Ferndale’s “sub-standard cow pasture,” here are links to photos of the field just prior to the playoff game Saturday:

Coach Carlson Field is a beautiful field and has been for quite some time. I would put it up against any rural small school playing facility around. Yes, there are times when the field will get muddy. We get 40 INCHES OF RAIN a year! That’s Mother Nature. Nothing we can do to stop her. Excuse us for not playing on some pristine plastic slab. We play on grass like football was meant to be played.

@JP Didn’t VC only play one Div I school and two DivIII schools–all with losing records? I think the two D IV, LEAGUE, blow-out losses hurt their record the most. BUT that win against Middletown was HUGE! Has to be their best win yet. CONGRATS VALLEY CHRISTIAN!

  46. Scl Alum Says:

Anybody have any predictions on Div IV semifinal game, Fort Bragg and Salesian?

  47. Scl Alum Says:

I’m predicting Fort Bragg to win in a mild upset, 31-24.

  48. yomama Says:

I can’t beleive Fort Bragg and Justin Sienna getting by the 2 top seeds. The layoff could have hurt both losing teams.(No games in the 1st round.) St. Mary’s looked like they were folding by the middle of the 3rd quarter, with a lead, against an under performing oppenent. Ferndale took a dump!

  49. Scl Alum Says:

Couldnt believe it when I saw the D4 quarterfinal games..

3 of the 4 games were decided in overtime

    and

3 or the 4 games were decided by 1 pt

That’s good, entertaining football action, regardless of Division category

#47 the only the only thing thats dumping is sh*t in your mouth. So wash out your mouth & get a life. You claim to be middle age as much crap as you talk. People like you I wish I could meet some where. But like most people from Blackhawk your scared.

  51. yomama Says:

No one could be scared of you. I’m from Blackhawk and served in special forces, law enforcement and an retired. I also played pro ball. What have you done, youngster from Alameda?

  52. yomama Says:

Is this the ex-coach from Encinal that’s a Novato fan or the real Reposa? If so, give us a clue about your history and what you did. Like I said, a kid from a losing playoff team on the blog.

  53. Mick Says:

To #42 fbmom, Sorry I wasn’t here to get back sooner. 1st a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the Timberwolves. And although the Wildcat lose was an abrupt end to our season, the best team walked away from a nice field, the victor. As I told Cimolino’s parents,(met at dinner in Fortuna), they have the only chance for a public school to win this division. They also proved a huge point that is,”on any given day”!! And now you are in the championship game…Great Luck!!! And all you need to do is beat JS and you’ll never have to hear from Joe(aka: sack of irrelevent stats)again! Best of Luck From a Nor Cal Homer!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. fbmom Says:

Of course we could care less about Joe’s stats. Thanks for the good luck. Our boys have made us so proud this year. They play with pride, dignity and they have beat the odds so to speak. They set a goal for themselves this year and so far have accomplished that goal. They believe in one game at a time. They don’t care about predictions, stats or what people have to say. Why would they, noone even had FT Bragg on the radar. Everyone pretty much forgot about Ft Bragg after they lost to Middletown. They took their losses with pride and vowed to play better and get where they are now, at the championship game. So thanks for your response Mick.

  55. NCL1Fan Says:

Fort Bragg is tough EVERY year! How many Cimolino RB’s are there anyway?
