This week, the Geeks get ready for the NCS playoffs by creating the East Bay’s first human bracket. Then, after a controversial pick, they simply try to stay alive.

There have been some great comments this year and lots of prognosticating. Here goes my scores and predictions for this weekend’s Playoff Games and Look for Upsets based on the strengths of the Teams looking to pull of the upsets, and the Hidden Weaknesses of the Purported Favorite from a Weaker League in 2009:

    Division 1 -

College Park 24 vs. Amador Valley 17

Losing their starting QB and middle LB is too much to overcome as the Dons dream season grinds to a halt.

    DLS by 50 over American

Monte Vista 31 vs. Heritage 21

Patriots play better than their first visit to Alamo earlier this year, but Mustang QB Nottingham throws for 375 yards and 4 Td’s.

Deer Valley 40 vs. Newark 10

This game will be over by halftime as Kristoff Williams gears up for a showdown with DLS in the Finals.

    Division 2 -

    Eureka 30 vs. Pinole Valley – 17

Loggers are solid, big and well coached, and on that sloppy nasty field will be right at home. Pinole is not big, but they are fast and well coached. However, after that long trip up north, it will be an even longer drag back home. They should have beaten El Cerrito earlier this year, that loss cost Pinole dearly.

Montomgery 31 vs. Mt. Diablo 17

Congratulations to the Red Devils for joining the playoff dance after a 30 year hiatus. Excellent job by their kids and staff in a dire financial situation. Montgomery is good and so is MD, but not good enough.

    Division 3 -

Encinal 50 vs. Sonoma Valley 7

Jets are primed, pumped and ready to crush SV. Next week’s game vs. Fortuna will be a hard-hitting old school football game, Jets hoping to remain healthy for it.

    Acalanes 17 vs. Analy 14

Acalanes got an early season holiday gift from the NCS playoff selection committee in an overrated ranking and a Home game in Round One. But, Analy has the 2nd string QB at the helm and lost earlier this year to a sub-par Sonoma team. Acalanes by default in this one.

El Cerrito 28 vs. Tamalpais 14

Tam is improved and the horrible wet field tonight will slow down EC duo of fast playmakers. However, the Gauchos are looking to make a statement in a decisive first round win at home, before moving onto 2nd clip.

    Healdsburg 17 vs. Miramonte 10

Greyhounds are hurting and have not won since the day before’s Hallow’s Eve. After getting banged up by Petaluma in final game, the Hounds are hoping to be more bite than bark. Lucily, Miramonte is a shell of its greater years recently and they cannot throw the ball well enough to scare the Hounds defense.

    Saturday Games:

    Division 1 -

Pittsburg 28 vs. San Ramon Valley 10

Losing their starting QB killed the Wolves chances of upsetting a fired up Pitt team that has lost some very close games this year. San Ramon had a good year and lost to good teams. Pitt is getting hot, San Ramon is not. Pitt and it could be even worse than my guess.

San Leandro 28 vs. Berkeley 17

Pirates should send a bouquet of Fall Flowers with a Round Trip ticket to the Bahamas to Coach Alameda of Pinole Valley, after they Exposed the complete lack of a passing attack by the Berkeley Yellow Jackets. I am a huge fan of how Coach Carter has turned things around in B-town. But, too much firepower by the Pirates spells the end of the road for Berkeley.

    Foothill 31 vs. Logan 30

This will be a fantastic game featuring top QB Mannion and the speedy playmakers of Logan on a cold and dry field by Saturday night. Track meet and the last team with the football wins. Falcon Coach Sweeney will have his team executing well and look for a killer Trick play to go for a TD.

Cal High 27 vs. Washington 24

Even though they beat Cal in the opener, the Huskies have softened a bit and collapsed vs. Logan in their league title showdown. Cal has weathered the storm to an less-than-wanted 5-5 season, but they got a lucky break by the Behind Closed Doors No Explanation NCS Playoff Selection Committee, and Got a Lucky Home Game. Cal is above average but at home they are a field goal better than Washington.

Concord 31 vs. Clayton Valley 28

Rematch Weekend continues and initially I thought about picking the Ugly Eagles to stage the Upset. However, since the game is on Saturday night, it wil be dry enough to let the Concord Gungslinging QB air it out well enough to win again at home.

Las Lomas 40 vs. Hayward 21

The 2009 Knights have had Two Seasons in One – the first half of the year when they stunk it up, and the 2nd half when they got hot or woke up from their slumber. Hanging more than 60-points on Campo was a nice warm up before the show begins. The Farmers have speed but I am going with LL at home in the Upset.

Ygnacio Valley 28 vs. Alameda 14

The Warriors could have won out for a better seed in the playoffs, but they nixed things up a bit. Alameda is ripe to get beat and the YV team will handle them after halftime. Look for a big game by Patrone Woods.

Alhambra 21 vs. Bishop ODowd 16

It seems like Coach Perenon does not trust Place Kickers often enough and it cost him in their Tie game vs. Alameda earlier this year. Why does that matter? Because playoffs come down to every point that counts and not getting enough 3-pointers on the board vs. the Dogs will cost them in the end in Martinez.

    Fortuna 30 vs. Campolindo 14

Campolindo had no business getting this high of a ranking but Again the No Reasons Why NCS Playoff Selection Committee gaffed and gave Campo the 9th slot. However, it backfired and now the Cougars must trek up north and get hammered by a Fortuna team that will run over and through the Courgars weaker defense. Campo goes home and Fortuna gets ready to play Encinal in Round Two in Alameda.

    Piedmont 30 vs. Novato 27

What? Having predicted a handful of upsets it should be clear the Highlanders got railroaded by the playoff committee at 13th seed. Piedmont QB Cragie had a fine year, and the weaker Marin League has only two very good teams this year, Marin Catholic and Novato. This will be a serious test for the Hornet secondary, and they won’t get a passing grade, or a rematch with Encinal as they look past Piedmont.

Berean Christian 27 vs. Justin Siena 21

The Braves are a shell of their former greatness. BC is hoping to make a hot run deep into the playoffs. JS will battle tough for 2 quarters and then run out of gas in Walnut Creek on the road. BC plays solid and get the job done.

Cloverdale 28 vs. Valley Christian 21

Valley Christian is handpicking kids from Castro Valley, Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, Tracy, etc., and they have stockpiled a wealth of talent, all being coached by outstanding Coach Parella and NFL Veterans. But, they are one year away from dominating, and after getting Homered by the Refs in Cloverdale, it will be a Cloverdale win because they are very good too.
