Sad new to pass along.

Elena Cadet, a 2009 graduate of Monte Vista High, died on Saturday after a car crash in Riverside according to the Riverside Press Enterprise.

According to the Press Enterprise — citing the California Highway Patrol — she was the passenger in a pickup truck that hit a palm tree on the shoulder of the highway at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday.

Cadet was a member of the 2008 All-East Bay Tennis team and was on the tennis team at U.C. Riverside.

The CHP is investigating how the truck lost control.
