Holiday Classic All-Star Football Game rosters (UPDATED)

Thursday, December 10th, 2009 at 5:19 pm in Uncategorized.
Here are the rosters released to me today for the Holiday Classic All-Star Football Game, an all-star game pitting the East Bay vs. Sacramento to be played Saturday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m. at Grant High in Sacramento. The event is in its fourth year, although it previous only covered as far south at the Stockton-Modesto-Merced region. Berkeley’s Alonzo Carter is the East Bay’s head coach, assisted by Concord’s Brian Hamilton, Ygnacio Valley’s Chris Turner, Castlemont’s James Barnes and McClymonds’ Curtis McCauley. Sacramento will be coached by Grant’s Mike Albergini, who suddenly has some free time, and Del Oro’s Casey Taylor.
I apologize for any mispelled names. I’ve made some corrections, but I can assure you the list I was sent has some mispellings that I’m unaware of. If you see any, kindly note them in the comment section and I’ll correct. Also, some players are listed at positions other than where they played in high school and so I’m listing them as they are on the roster I was given.

IS CARTER RUNNING BERKELY OFFENSE
December 10th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
WHERE CAN TICKETS BE PURCHASED PRIOR TO GAME
December 10th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Not that I’m aware of.
December 10th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Congradulations to all the kids!!
The East Bay Team is stacked, a who’s who of All-Stars!!!
Except haven’t heard much about QB’s. Are they running QB’s or passers?
December 10th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Ross is a dual threat type quarterback who is probably a better safety than QB, but he’s had some pretty good games at QB. I saw him against Logan this year, which might’ve been his worst game as a high school starting QB, so it wouldn’t be fair to judge him solely on that game. I haven’t seen Spivey but he was near the top 10 in the East Bay in passing yards for most of the season and finished with 1,433 yards, 9 TDs and 6 INTs.
December 10th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
CELLINI FINISHED WITH OVER EIGHTEEN HUNDRED YARDS. 20 td 7 int pocket passer very accurate. stronger league than albany. looks like most picks were from division 1 high schools
December 10th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
sjs section all stars will win big. although i,m rooting for east bay

There’s no way Mannion and Nottingham, both from the EBAL play in this game. If they’re hurt, their Div 1 ride to Wash St. and UCLA are over. They both barely escaped potential injuries playing De La Salle in the playoffs, lots of sacks and stayed in way to late in the game when it was lights out and time to start up the bus.
December 10th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Yeah, there’s no reason for a high-profile QB to play in the game. There are others, such as Cellini or Piedmont’s Cormac Craigie, Concord’s Ricky Lloyd or Campo’s Tommy Stephens that had very good years as well. I’m not sure how exactly the teams were selected, but I wouldn’t be shocked if another QB was added to this roster. Not a bad idea to have three guys available, although obviously Jonathan Willis was a QB for Logan so he could step in there.
December 10th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Ross can play QB don’t worry…Outside the obvious of Mannion and Nottingham there are not a lot better than him…i mean washington was playing in the d1 semifinals, so i am sure he can play…Remember he threw for over 2,000 yards last year, I believe he missed a few games this year which resulted in lesser stats. But I think just looking at the 3 playoff games he was good overall against some of the better defenses in cal and pitt.
don’t know much about the albany QB, but i am sure he can play…And i would assume most players are taken from the D1 schools as they get a little more exposure plus played against much tougher competition. not to say there aren’t a lot of good d2 and below players, because there are but I think overall there is definately a little less there.
I also like that they spread the wealth…they didnt just load up on a few teams and make the all stars…they didnt take more than 2 or 3 from each team which i think was definately a good idea.
i love willis and kristoff at wr too, as putting 2 qb’s at the wr position will really help the team out overall especailly the qb’s, since qb’s read and see the same things they will be able to get on the same page quicker.
and that secondary is loaded…looking forward to this game, although you would think they would play it about half way in between both teams…unless maybe next year it is in the east bay…
December 10th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
DVC IS A GOOD PLACE TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF GAME.HOW DID THEY DECIDE ON WHERE THERE GONNA PLAY IT AT.
December 10th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
I think it’s in Sac because that’s where it has been for the past three years. I wasn’t aware initially, but this is actually just an extension of a game that used to pit Sacramento (called the North) against stars from the Modesto-Manteca-Stockton area (called the South). This year, those areas were combined to play against the East Bay. Maybe it gets bounced back between the two areas, but since this is something that Sac has had for three years already, it makes sense for it to be in Sac this year.
As for Ross, I agree he’s a worthy choice. I was actually pretty disappointed that the one game I got to see Washington play this year was a game that he obviously really struggled in (and hey, everyone is entitled to struggle every once in a while, especially against a good Logan team). I had been looking forward to seeing him play since I had heard good things about him. This should give me another chance to see him.
December 10th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Tommy Stephens would have been a great pick for the East Bay, or Cellini. Either way, though, Carter’s unimaginative offensive scheme will likely get shut down versus Sac speed. Lloyd great spread QB for East Bay, but Carter doesn’t have enough knowledge about this type of offense to let Lloyd get turned loose in this game. Should let Chris Turner of YV run the offense, then they will get somewhere.
December 10th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
I can assure you that just because Alonzo Carter is the head coach of the team, you will not see the same offense that was run this year at Berkeley. Carter is a coach who examines what he has on his team and fits a scheme around that. Remember that he once coached Kyle Reed, who earned a scholarship as a quarterback to Cal (before eventually transfering to San Jose State). So he’s coached teams that relied on the pass before. Regardless, I’d definitely expect any number of those other coaches to have a hand in the offensive gameplan and it’d be foolish to think that just because Carter is the head coach that you’ll see nothing but handoffs to Rickey Galvin and Richard Calhoun all night (although with those guys in the backfield, and potentially Terron Ward, that’s not too bad of an idea).
December 10th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
This is the 4th year of the event. In the past it was just a sac joaquin section all star event. It was a north (Sacramento surrounding areas) vs. south (stockton, modesto, merced surrounding areas) Coach Alberghini (Grant) Coach Taylor Del Oro) have coached evey year. They love volunteering. The north has blown out the south by at least 40 points every game. So we decided to bring in the East Bay and give them real competition.
This game has a great enviroment and has grown from 1,500 people 3,000 fans in the stands in 3 years. I belive with all the D-1 talent in this game we may go to 4,000???
If this is attended well by the east bay fans we have no problem bringing next years game to the east bay.
The east bay coaches were called and were asked to submit nominations. The team was selected from those nominations.
Nottingham was set to play but is leaving on vacation the day of the game. He is bummed he cant play. First I’ve heard that DLS ward might not play. I will post tomorrow if he is or isnt.
December 11th, 2009 at 12:17 am
the east bay team could have been so much better. i’m shocked none of the following players are on the team
QB’s
stancil, mannion, tommy stephens, lucas gorton, cormac craigie
WR’s
joey andrada, david black, justin berger, jeremy sites, james king
LB’s
Gio Javier, David Wilkerson, Kyle Kragen, Rico Dixon
December 11th, 2009 at 12:48 am
So Reggie Davis makes the All East Bay team, but wasn’t even nominated for all league by his coach. Travis Raciti from College Park was co-MVP of the DVAL with Buhagiar from CV, and would have been a good choice at either TE or LB. How did a LB from Riordon get put on the East Bay team? He must live in the East Bay somewhere? Some great talent on both teams.
December 11th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Jimmy, I know they are just kickers, but at least get the schools right.
James Langford, Football?
Chase Brunson, David?
Haha, sorry, that was a lot of typing to do. Corrected now. -JD
December 11th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Prep Fan,
There were 4 guys that were asked but were either on vacation or decided to play another sport.
* I also meant to say east bay Coaches on the #16 post. I cant seem to figure out how to edit on this site.
–Matty, made the edit for you to coaches on #16 post. The comments can only be edited by admins. – JD
December 11th, 2009 at 8:32 am
damn! No love for the HAAL
December 11th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Lloyld from concord is slow as shit. And their better QBs on this team but playing other postions for EX. Jonathan willis, TYronye duckket… and WOWWWWWWW the east bay DB isss sooo deeeeep and D1 fillled I wonder whose going to start, and whose going to sit?
December 11th, 2009 at 8:43 am
I know he did not play much this season but what about Oakland High’s QB/DB/WR Charles Cobbs????
December 11th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Coach Carter,
The Campolindo QB is awesome. Great passer and hard nosed. take a look or give him a call
December 11th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
This looks like a game well worth watching. Any TV? Worth a trip if not raining, for sure. Coaching staffs, not just one guy. Talent is huge, even if not all great players can play or were offered. Jimmy, you picking a winner yet? You know most the players on one team at least, and if watching some Comcast games, you know Bryce Pratt (Del Oro), Grant guys, etc.?
December 11th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
I really don’t know enough about the Sac guys to make a prediction, although I’m pretty impressed with the East Bay roster. I’m looking forward to the game though.
December 11th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
we can’t win with these q.b’s! spivey is horrible better last year & the washington q.b has a squirt gun. carter get stephens from campo or put the kid from deer valley or duckett at q.b. i hope carter runs something besides I blast! be creative too many athletes to be predictable zo.
December 11th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
no james king from miramonte???
December 11th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Coach Carter is the Head Coach but is not running the offense.
Both teams really deep. No tv sorry. Probaly next year though. I hope the fans from the east bay come out. If we see the fan support we can move to your area next year. If no fan support then we feel like no one will show up next year. So, it would be hard to take a chance on moving it.
Terron Ward is a lock to play, always has been!
I think everything is even except the Sac line is a little bigger. They will average 6’6 280 on the offensive side. But, the East Bay Db’s are so talented and deep. This game is a toss up which makes it totally fun.
December 11th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
who’s calling the offense then?
December 11th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Matty, thanks for great info – will go to the game (even in the rain)! Nice! Maybe can get the reporters here to do the blog, etc., but sounds like if you’re not there you’re going to miss too much good stuff….
December 11th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Turner should call the offense with a nice blend of run and pass plays.
December 11th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Knock on wood but in the 3 years on the same weekend it’s been perfect weather. Last year rained until Friday night but then was beautiful. Game is on turf field. This game will be fast and hard hitting. It will look like a college game with this speed.
Maybe the other advantage Sac has is Coach Alberghini (Grant)and his staff has run the defense the last 3 years in this game. Casey Taylor (Del oro)has run the offense. So they know how to work as a team
Here are some of the fun rules we have put in.
1. All Blitzing is a go. You dont have to declare. If you want to send 11 guys go for it. (This is big boy football. : ) )
2. Kickers will kick off from the 30. (College rule)
3. If the defense jumps offsides but gets back before the ball is snapped no penalty (college rule)
4. If the defense blocks the extra point they can return it for 2. (College rule)
5. If the ball is kicked into the endzone the player can run it out. ( College rule)
December 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
617lemon…i hope you feel good about yourself as you call out 17 year old high school kids…calling one terrible and one a noodle arm and probably never even seen either play…i mean it is one thing to think maybe someone should be on the team that isn’t but to blast a 17 year old kid seems pretty pathetic…
and the coaches voted on the representatives so obviously they saw something in these kids to put them on the roster, unless you know more i guees???
December 11th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
how many games did albany win? forget wins if spivey was good why did his teams get blown out? blitz him he stares at the rush. if he plays he will just hand off!probably wont play.
December 11th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
All the players posted are confirmed!
December 11th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Thanks Matty. Carter had said Ward wasn’t guaranteed because of DLS possibly (probably) will play in the state title game the week before. Good to hear he’ll play.
December 11th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
a little surprised no d-linemen from DLS made it.
December 11th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Your welcome Jimmy. I was surprised when I read that. I spoke to his dad. Yes, the Grant players and coaches were a little tired last year but by game time they were ready to go. The kids will be ready to play.
December 11th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
If Ward’s there too, you don’t need any DLS o-linemen (sorry, bad joke). Good luck, Sacto!
December 11th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
All Star games are fun, but dangerous. Back in the day, early ‘ 70′s some top gun kids got hurt in some of these games. It was CCC vs. Alameda county, CCC was called the CC Riders from the press( Mitch Ryder and the Detriot wheels fame). I saw Sammy Burns get jacked at this game playing safety, next ride to CAL. I saw John LLmas from St. Marys’s(Catholic lineman of the year) move to center and get the MVP(later moved on to Havard.) Mt. Phil Mckinnley( SMCHS-Berkeley) the following year, moved on to UCLA and later pro.
Richmond High had 5 players on the ’70 team, the EB team of the year- lead by MoGonamm and Jerge. Lot’s of injuries. The North vs. the South who Ladecour coached in the early ’80′s was real competitive and dangerous- lots of all-state selections. Some colleges began to say no.
I witnessed my nephew play in the Napa-Solano game several years back(all region lineman), the game has been a tradition for almost 30 yrs. Lot’s of headhunting and testostone. Turned ugly in the 4th qtr, refs couldn’t control it. My other god-son, now all-confernace for a Div 3 team in Oregon in the NCAA 3 final four played in a San Mateo vs. cental coast all-star game. He scored the winning TD. Lot’s of over the top violence, out of control. Coach Carter and Grant coach are responsible for player’s actions. Some of these players are on the border, lot’s of scouting at the game for late additions. Everyone has something to prove. I would like these games to continue in the future, but I don’t think the colleges will allow much if they have commitments. Both my god-sons had to get clearance from their respective colleges to play.
December 11th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
What?
December 12th, 2009 at 10:33 am
i doubt it is going to be dirty…and if you have a legit d1 scholarship i wouldn’t be playing in the game anyways…this is more of a showcase for the guys that have had some feelers, maybe some d2 colleges, or just haven’t gotten a look for whatever reason…
if you are nottingham and mannion with full rides to pac-10 schools probably shouldnt be playing anyways…for everyone else should be a well played game, looking forward to it.
December 12th, 2009 at 10:54 am
the Haal and the san leandro pirates
what happend to the reps MR. CARTER
December 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
SL PIRATES ROBERSON BANNERMAN JONES
is it too late
December 12th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Renegade, who are the senior d-linemen from DLS that were overlooked?
December 12th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
at least Will Marre senior DE who has 14 sacks
December 12th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
The East Bay has just 4 DL selections, but 12 DBs? I know those are all complete studs and deserving, but maybe there were some deserving kids in the trenches that were overlooked like Marre. I did see where Raciti from CP is now playing basketball, so maybe that’s why he didn’t make the squad.
December 12th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Guys,
Remember, Carter is the head coach, but he is NOT in charge of the rosters. The rosters were put together of recommendations from East Bay head coaches.
December 12th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I would love Wilkerson, but no return phonecalls, Will Marre, needs to get in touch with Carter, if he’s interested, would love to have him. The DLS right O tackle was invited, but is going out of town. It will be a nice event, come support the Bay. Thanks again Jimmy
December 13th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Playing this game in December is stupid. Kids are tired and bodies are worn down. Anyone with a scholarship on the table needs to steer clear of this game. All out blitzing? The D already has an advantage over the offense in All-star games, everybody knows that. Win or lose QBs will get the business. What college is gonna give a scholarship to a hurt player? Adults should be more responsible.
December 13th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Actually, the college coaches love this game in December. This is the 4th year of doing this game. The first 3 years have produced full rides for 6 players that did not have an offer. But, they showed they could play against the best and offeres came.
We have never had any problems with “violence” in this game or in the stands. It’s been a great family atmosphere.
We have many D-1 athletes in this game. In fact, we have only had one kid in the 4 years that said no because he had a scholarship offer . Ballers want to ball!
Raciti would have missed two days of practice because he is going on vacation.
Wilkerson is playing in another all star game. He was also invited.
Chris Turner is calling the offense. I think I have answered everything. : )
December 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Hey some of you guys on here need to stop hatin so much of these kids. They are all just trying to get noticed and get a scholarship. Some of you bitter guys need to stop! Of course there are other kids who could have played but guess what, they’re not! I only know of a few of these playes and some others by name, but they can all play. And I would guess that if a player got picked for the game, he can play. And the fact that none of you have heard of Spivey from Albany should make you guys want to go and check this kid out and see what he can do. i know Albany did not win much of the past years but sometimes there are kids who happen to be on bad teams that can really play, and I think this kid can. So stop hatin people.
December 13th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Like others, I would like to know more about who chooses the team. 8 players from Pittsburg and Berkeley and 6 from all of the EBAL teams combined?
December 13th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Seems to me this game is an opportunity. Risks (including injury) come with opportunities, as with everything in life – including league games. If you don’t want to go you can hide in the bushes and watch.
December 14th, 2009 at 10:25 am
As mentioned, there are only 5 position players plus a K/P from the EBAL, statistically the best league in NorCal.
Sounds like Mannion and Nottingham couldn’t make it, but what about the other players from:
Foothill-Berrigan
AV- Turay, Stancil, Bailey
MV- Sherwood, Labarbera
December 14th, 2009 at 10:58 am
“best league” doesn’t make them the best players… and once again “the coaches voted on the representatives “.
sorry EBAL peeps =( go root for DLS while they get there @ss handed to them from Crenshaw.
December 14th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Im sick of people talking about the EBAL
you have better coaches, facilities and a better family structure at home not better athletes come over the hill a coach some of these kids that dont eat and have to walk thru spots on there way to school and wetness the pain and the dilemma
December 14th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
It has been wetness out there lately, what’s the next weather report? Snow?
December 14th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
dedication without talent is a day dream
talent without dedication is a nightmare
wetness lol so u missed the message
December 15th, 2009 at 8:46 am
both high 4.4 speed
George Roberson, San Leandro 992yds 11avg. 14tds 94car
Victor Bannerman San Leandro 606yrds 28avg. 11tds 22rec
Lenny Jones 19rec 18avg 5tds at the tight end spot
will justice be served these kids have something 2 prove
December 15th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Congrats to all the young men choosen for the all-star game..Great to see these kids will get sum more film and looks beofore next year… If 1 kid gets a scholarship then it was worth wild…
December 15th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Hey G.O.A.T.,
You obviously are not the “Greatest of all time” you perceive yourself to be as is evidenced with your ignorance and chopped spelling… just wondering but haven’t San Leandro and Oakland teams from ‘over the hill’ gotten rolled by East Bay teams the last few years? Exactly. Fact: EBAL=premiere league in Northern Cali, rivaled by WCAL.
December 15th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
The East Bay should put Ward and Anderson in that lineup and turn them loose on that defense. Sacto would find the De La duo on their doorstep really quick. I can’t wait to see that 400 meter DLS relay team at state this year- replace the long jumper, 3 coming back, look out 40.85, it will be another NCS new record- my predict 40.65.
December 15th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
The WCAL is the strongest league in Northern California. Bellarmine, Serra, St. Francis and Mitty are very storied programs, SI was and Valley Christian has really improved the last several yrs.
De La Salle can handle these teams, Monte Vista mabey on a good year about .500 against them, the rest of the EBAL would really struggle. This is not to say the EBAL is weak, they are the second best league. They would just have some problems against these smash-mouth football teams.
December 15th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
Big Joe
You really are a DLS / Private School guy. The difference between these WCAL teams and DLS is that they compete for eachothers athletes because they are closer in proximity to oneother so naturally they dont have a monoploy on the talent pool like DLS does in our area. Consequently, they are more like the teams in the EBAL. To think you suggest MV as the only other team that can compete with these schools is further proof you just like stirring things up. If that were the case why does Foothill have the most league championships in the EBAL in the last ten years pre DLS. Even If you count the last two with DLS then Amador would have been better this year and Foothill the year before. In fact MV’s record the last 10 years against Foothill is 3-7. And that is the best of any other EBAL school. So lets Add Foothill to the mix and then there is always a CAl or Aaador or SRV who are good and the EBAL top to bottom wins more than they lose. In fact throw out DLS and Livermore and we are 1-1 and then i will take the middle 6 and the EBAL goes 4-2.

Yes it is true that the WCAL schools compete for the same athletes but I just want to point out that Santa Clara County, (which is where Bellarmine, Valley Christian, St. Francis, and Archbishop Mitty are located) has twice the population size of Contra Costa County which is where DLS pulls most of its kids from. The student populations of these schools are
Bellarmine: 1,500 (all boys)
St. Francis: 1,600 (coed)
Valley Christian: 1,250 (coed)
Archbishop Mitty: 1,680 (coed)
So just cutting the population of the coed schools in half gives them 3,765 boys between the schools. Not to mention that these schools also draw from parts of Alameda County mainly Fremont as well as parts of Santa Cruz County. Bellarmine’s own website states it also draws kids from Livermore, Burlingame and San Francisco. So yes DLS doesn’t have the same amount of schools in the area it draws from but it doesn’t have as large of a population base it is drawing from either.

I updated this in the post, but I’ll post it as a comment as well in case people don’t look above.
UPDATE
The East Bay team has three new additions in TE Lenny Jones of San Leandro, LB Dalton Turay of Amador Valley amd LB Thadon Haley of Mt. Diablo. I’m also told that Pittsburg’ Erick Dargan has pulled out of the game.

So Jimmy, don’t you think it’s good for some of these kids to get an opportunity to showcase themselves. Even if they weren’t that known.

reguarding qb,s of east bay, the talk of adding another would be wise. Although stevens is good, CELLINI from alhambra is better, he beat stevens and campo. 2 td, 0 picks aganist 1td 2 picks., plus he is the only qb from area to take every snap from under center, no spread, no pistol,no shot gun. Therefore must read defenses quicker, more footwork , smaller passing lanes, and still had 3rd highest completion% of area qb,s. also turner worked with him all last year while coaching at alhambra. seems like smart pick. please relay to coach carter

Brandon,
I think it’s a great opportunity for all of them and certainly for some of the guys from lesser known schools who didn’t get as much attention during the regular season. If even one extra kid gets a scholarship from playing in the game (and nobody suffers a career-ending injury), it’s a success.
December 16th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Hi, this is great for the kids. Are they all seniors?
December 16th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Yes, they are all seniors.

Did Turner have any good assistant coaches this year at YV?
December 17th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
what is the criteria for this all-star team can someone please tell me
I had the privilege of going to the SL STATE football banquet last night and it only confirm my beliefs if every other time you touch the football you score a touchdown how can you be left of the all star team Victor Bannerman runs perfect routes throttles down to put the defenders on his back 2 catch the ball in stride snatches would be int from defenders the only way 2 stop him is to stop the QB they say film don’t lie so gO to the film Bellemine prep is in the state championship game he’s running thru that 3-5-3 D like he’s playing with babies So when i ask him y aren’t you excited when u catch touchdown he says that’s what im suppose to do.I say again go to the film and DONT FORGET MR.ROBERSON
December 17th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Probably because its the EAST BAY ALL-STARS
December 17th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
How did LB Evan Ward from Riordan get put on the East Bay team? Is that a misprint? Even if he lives in the East Bay and commutes to school in the city, there are plenty of deserving guys who live and play HS ball in the East Bay that should have gotten the nod before a Riordan guy.

What I didn’t say that
December 18th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
there r really good players from Nevada union who should be on the sac team, all of u should know we beat u, shutup rocklin, that was luck
December 19th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Yeah, having Buford and Marre at on the edges wouldve been sick. But I feel like the East Bay offense will run all over Sac this year. They might even get Brown some carries
December 22nd, 2009 at 8:30 am
Ive been to all 3 Classic’s at Grant High School. All that talent on one field and watching them go at it is fun. Im just glad Matty changed the competition up. East Bay should bring some competition. Matty, I hope you dont change the venue, Grant is a great place to have the games. Have you thought about bringing up the So. Cal All stars from a section down south??

December 26th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Jimmy, Ben or Chace,
Can someone tell me how DBR didn’t do enough to be on the All East Bay team? He had better numbers than some of the players on the squad. Just looking for a little help understanding.
Thanks guys.
Go Panthers!

Guys,
I want to clarify. I’m not talking about the All Star team playing vs. Sac. I get that. The backs listed make sense, and he would not have been healthy anyway. But I am talking about the Co Co Times All East Bay selections. He didn’t even make 3rd team.
Thanks.
Go Panthers!
December 26th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Im diggin the east bay team. Looks like a powerful O-line that will give nice holes to run through for Ward Galvin and Calhoun and Definitely strong secondary.
December 26th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Hey Panther Fan
hows DBR is he being recruited by anyone?
December 26th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
What a game—-East Bay and Sac Bay double OT end up stopping the game at a TIE…..Defense on both sides mirrored eachother with speed and size. That field goal kicker is going to get a lot of looks from East Bay. He kicked a 57 yard field goal(no misprint) to tie the game in regulation.
Great game today.
December 26th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
who scored for da east bay team??
December 26th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Panther Fan, Brown ws not going to make the 1st and 2nd team. Ward, Anderson , Galvin and Calhoun had those spots locked up. However, he should have made the 3rd.
December 26th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Awesome game in Sacto today! Gonna go next year, too. Definitely high quality, upper level college-type game, wow!

I’m here to answer some questions/opionions on last Saturdays game.
“There’s no way Mannion and Nottingham, both from the EBAL play in this game. If they’re hurt, their Div 1 ride to Wash St. and UCLA are over.” Nottingham was in but flew out on vacation the day of the game. He was ready to ball. Ballers Ball. There were tons of kids with offeres in this game. Just like the us army game and the Under Armour game. The top players want to showcase and go against the best.
“All Star games are fun, but dangerous. Back in the day, early ‘ 70’s some top gun kids got hurt in some of these games.” No one got hurt except for a rolled ankle and a couple guys got hit like they have never been hit before.
“Lot’s of headhunting” No cheapshots. Much respect on both sides!
“Lot’s of over the top violence, out of control. Coach Carter and Grant coach are responsible for player’s actions.” None in this game. Just ballers showcasing. Players had a FANTASTIC time.
“i doubt it is going to be dirty…and if you have a legit d1 scholarship i wouldn’t be playing in the game anyways…this is more of a showcase for the guys that have had some feelers, maybe some d2 colleges, or just haven’t gotten a look for whatever reason…” It wasnt dirty at all. Man many D-1 players played in this game as they do in the US Army Game and the Under Armour Game.
“Playing this game in December is stupid. Adults should be more responsible.” Wrong..Dec. is the perfect time to play this game. These are 17 and 18 year olds not 45 year old men. Every D-1 player that wasnt on vacation or playing baskeball played in this game.
“If even one extra kid gets a scholarship from playing in the game (and nobody suffers a career-ending injury), it’s a success.” Cant wait to see who gets a new look from this game. I guess we will know the first week of Feb.
“what is the criteria for this all-star team can someone please tell me” A coach needs to nominate the players and the players are chosen by a committee. Not all coaches nominated for one reason or another but we tried our best to nominate the players. Why penalize a player just because a coach didnt want to nominate the kid?
“But I feel like the East Bay offense will run all over Sac this year.” Every yard was a grind for both teams.
“Have you thought about bringing up the So. Cal All stars from a section down south??” I know many coaches in the south but i really like this format. I dont have any plans of changing this format.
