  1. 925 Says:

word was SRV beat Cal 45-38

  2. Kyle Bonagura Says:

    It was 44-38.

Mark Tollefsen scored 20 points — all in the first three quarters — for San Ramon. Cal trailed by 9 at the half, cut the lead to 1 at one point in the third and SRV kept about a 4-point cushion the rest of the way.

Heath and McNealy cancelled each other out for the most part, both finished with 11.

Cal is an interesting team. They seem to play to the level of their competition — losses to Granada, Dougherty Valley. Wins against Heritage, Monte Vista. Close games with SRV/Deer Valley. Heath didn’t play as well tonight as he did against MV, but he’s a fun kid to watch.

SRV clearly has a target on its back, but it’ll need to play a lot better than it did tonight if it wants to make some noise in NCS. They have a great combination of size, shooting, athleticism and have one of NorCal’s legendary coaches in Raynor.

San Ramon Valley 44, California 38

    San Ramon Valley (16-1)
    McNealy 4 3-4 11, Fisher 3 0-0 8, Tollefsen 8 0-1 20, Tappin 0 3-4 3, Garrett 1 0-0 2. Totals 16 6-9 44.

    California (11-6)
    Heath 4 0-0 11, S.Frazier 1 0-0 2, Botelho 1 0-0 3, Wingard 2 0-0 5, Davis 3 0-0 6, N.Frazier 3 3-4 9, Bagnall 1 0-0 2. Totals 15 3-4 38.

    SRV 10 14 9 11 – 44
    Cal 12 3 14 9 – 38

3-point goals: Tollefsen 4, Heath 3, Fisher 2, Botelho, Wingard.

  3. local coach Says:

Is it true, washington lost to kennedy of fremont last night! WOW.

  4. bbfan2 Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Wash lost to Kennedy. Kennedy has some talent in Mann and Murry. Look at the MVAL stats. If Kennedy won, that’s a good thing for MVAL seeing as Wash almost pulled out a win against Newark, that means the league is looking a little stronger.

  5. SLfan Says:

Why is Oakland high ranked and San Leandro is not SL beat them. i don’t like this rankings.

  6. MVALFAN Says:

Washington lost to Kennedy. Terrible lost for the Huskies.. Wow!

  7. bbfan2 Says:

local coach, you probably already know, but it is true. kennedy-fremont beat washington fremont last night

  8. kkop Says:

Box score has no Mckinney….Is he hurt?

  9. THE DEN Says:

Oakland gets the respect of Jabari being on their team. I read on here that it looks like he most likely will be coming back soon. If he would of played against CV, it seems like they would of been able to get the win. I asked my boys that play for CV(Chris Read, Brandyn Seals) and they said it would of changed everything but they were still confident that they would win. CV should be higher than 7 I think. The O’Dowd game coming up will prove who is the HAAL’s best team. Brandon Ashley is nice, but my boy Chris will lock him up.

  10. keeping it real Says:

Washington didn’t almost beat newark, newark almost gave the game away on bad free throw shooting. I was actually at the game. As far as washington losing to kennedy, murray is WAY more experienced than the ball hog mckinney, who is a shooting guard forced to play point. The MVAL isn’t that strong, that’s why newark plays in tournaments like torry pines, NCS gives zero credit to MVAL wins unless you win the league title. Unless Jabari Brown overcomes the NCS rules his high school days could be over, which won’t matter, he still gets plenty of division 1 looks because he is an oakland soldier AAU player and they play the best.

  11. keeping it real Says:

By the way, the other HUGE reason washington lost to fremont, jack veronin hasn’t committed himself physically to basketball, he is tremendously underdeveloped. Not to mention the coaching!

  12. bhouse Says:

Oakland is a 500 team that is not impressive without Jabari they should be rated lower as for cv they are right where they belong and sorry Den Read is no where near the player Ashley is he is a d-1 player Read is not and oakland wins by 10+ points if jabari playes vs cv

  13. CV High Says:

chris read is rated 76 by espn and could easily get a d1 scholly. ashleys a soph who definitely will be a d1 player but last year he was brought to tears by the cv den. mental toughness is key. chris read plays tough and jumps extremely high, getting probably as much air as a guy like ashley who has like 4-5 inches on him.

  14. fwi Says:

it is too early to say whether read is d-1 talent or not, he is a junior, so he has alot of time to grow and he does need to get bigger. now ashley, being a sophomore is a for sure d-1 player, but he can be shut down after watching the cv/ odowd game last year when andy alcarez who was a good 3 inches shorter than ashley shut him down when he out-physicalled him (with lack of a better phrase). so, it is possible to shut down ashley, which cv has proven they can do with the larger teams (clovis east, san lorenzo). as for oakland not being a good team, they are a very talented team with some d-1 talent who plays in a very tough but underrated oal, granted, they are a much better team with jabari brown and it would be a completely different game if he had played against cv. look for castro valley, newark memorial, salesian and here’s my sleeper….. washington to do well as the season progresses….. we will see what happens.

  15. thatssssss right Says:

hey trojan den….. where have you guys been? you’re nowhere close to as good as you were last year….. last year you guys took over opposing gyms and you made opposing teams cry….. literally cry! i guess last years trojan den will go down as one of the greatest high school student sections of all time. so far that tradition hasn’t been carried on this year i guess.

  16. bhouse Says:

Read is a great athelete and great jumper, but a 6’3 150 pound power forward who can’t shoot does not spell D-1

  17. donut Says:

where is the Washington fans now hyping up all that summer stuff they cant even go undefeated in mval

  18. bbfan2 Says:

keeping it real, I wasn’t at the wash/newark game, so i will give you that one. I guess I just expected newark to win by alot more. Also, I think Jabari will get to play, but I agree, he will still get the looks from the D1 schools. CV high, Ashley was a freshman last year so I am sure he’s a little more tough mentally. If CV beats O dowd, it will be because of coaching not the lack of talent they have. Bobbit is talented also.

  19. kkop Says:

#11 – That’s a pretty bold statement. The kid is avg. 17 rebounds a game in league! He also had 27 points in the loss, seems like he’s doing just fine.

  20. keeping it real Says:

Khop I agree, jack is a very strong rebounder, especially on the defensive end, with the caveat that his opponents are considerably smaller than him. I’ve coached AAU and been at several camps and tournaments where jack and mike mckinney were at. Mckinney could be a solid division II guy, needs to refine his dribble and PG game, but solid hoop IQ and athleticism. Jack is a college small forward with center game, but against real bigs, not effective. And I base this on things I witnessed. Jack was forced into playing as a big man like a lot of kids, his face up game is not refined. Against fremont of oakland at the newark tournament, washington was up 11 in the third quarter, and against the rugged 6-5 center of fremont, jack disapperared and mckinney ran out of gas, he was out husltled and was intimidated by a true high school big. I keep it real.

  21. CV High Says:

    Thatssssss Right:

The Trojan Den of 2008-09 was most definitely one of the greatest student sections of all time. It was mostly filled with seniors who graduated though. Many of them were self-proclaimed A-holes who went all out for every game. Home, away, against scrubs, or against all stars, it didn’t matter. CV’s class of 09 was a true 6th man. It didn’t matter if they got thrown out or banned by the administration or even suspended, they did everything they could to impact the game.

Obviously, now that the class of 09 has moved on, theres a huge hole to fill. Future classes better remember last year and do their best to live up to the hype.

  22. JustWondering Says:

Jimmie, time to rank SPSV boy’s hoops. Let’s see, beat Piedmont by 30 and beat St. Mary’s 67-66 double overtime Friday. That’s now 17-3. If you haven’t seen them enough you have now.

  23. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Like I said before JustWondering, if St. Pat’s was in the East Bay they would be ranked. Unfortunately Vallejo isn’t in the East Bay so we don’t include them in the East Bay poll. I wish I could’ve seen that game Friday. Sounds like it was a good one.

  24. All Day Says:

Since SPSV plays in the BSAL they should qualify to be ranked in the east bay polls, because the Sac-Jaquien section does not recognize SPSV since they are in the NCS so why not include them in the rankings. I understand where they are located but the league they play in and most of their non-league games are with schools in the east bay, why get technical because of their location. They deserve some credit not only in basketball but in all of their sports. Very underrated program because of their location, maybe they should leave the NCS and join the Sac. section since they can’t get ranked in East Bay polls. Remember they play in the BSAL not the SCAC or the MEL.

  25. Jimmy Durkin Says:

It’s more than us just getting technical. Since they aren’t in our coverage area, we rarely see them play. I don’t think anyone on staff has seen them play this year. Occasionally we see them if they are involved in a big BSAL game played down this way, but it’s rare that we go up to Vallejo for a game (since we own the Vallejo Times-Herald, sometimes we get them to send us stuff on games). But we don’t see them regularly enough to judge them and their coaches don’t report their results to us. In the past, we did include them in our voting, but they were always undervalued because we were just voting off what we saw on paper, rather than what we saw in person because we rarely see them.

  26. Prep Fan Says:

“maybe they should leave the NCS and join the Sac. section since they can’t get ranked in East Bay polls.”

That doesn’t strike me as a valid reason for a high school to switch sections. I doubt the poeple at that school really care if they are ranked in the East Bay polls. The Oakland teams aren’t in the NCS, but they are in the East Bay, so they are included. It isn’t an NCS poll, it is an East Bay poll. There are plenty of teams up north that are part of NCS, but are not located in the East Bay and are not included in the East Bay poll.

  27. 2pac Says:

There is no way that cv’s frontline can handle odowd’s frountline. Odowd is top talented and if they loose it will be a clear upset due to coaching. Brandon Ashley is much tougher mentally and will be a handful for cv’s undersized bigs.

  28. keeping it real Says:

Washington lost another league gsme, kick them off the poll!

  29. keeping it real Says:

Spsv will needs to lose by only 5 or less to salesiam to be in the polls. St mary’s has the twins, but no point guard or bench, so not a big win at all. They need some real non conf wins of note, and they have zero. So they deserve no ranking.

  30. bbfan2 Says:

i agree with 2pac, if Odowd loses, it will most likely be a result of coaching. They have the three bigs starting and one coming off the bench. Guard situation is sketchy, but other than that. I will say Bobbit is nice, though
