Despite missing part of the season with a knee injury, San Ramon Valley’s Bobby Edwards will always remember his senior year as the year he signed with Stanford University to play soccer.
The 5-11 forward (who has a 4.3 GPA), with his great ball skills and very good throw in, will be playing for the Cardinal this Fall.
“I’m very excited,” Edwards said. “Not only is it one of the best academic schools in the country, but they are very good at soccer.”
Stanford finished the year ranked No. 14 in the country in 2009.
Edwards isn’t the only soccer player in his family. His twin sister, Ashley, also a player for SRV, is signing with UC Davis.
Joining Edwards in the Pac-10 will be his schoolmate and former teammate Torey McGaw, who will be signing with UC Berkeley. McGaw, a tenacious defender with an incredible throw-in, is playing for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy soccer this winter in lieu of playing with the Wolves.
A trio of De La Salle players will also be heading on to play at four-year schools with forward Justin Howard committing to St. Mary’s, center-midfielder Wesley Moar signing at San Francisco State and defender Sean Sweeney signing on to play at Cal Poly-Pomona.
Cory Thomas, the keeper from Amador Valley, will be joining Howard at St. Mary’s.
Alameda’s Ajay Rana has committed to the Air Force Academy and Bishop O’Dowd defender Davonte DuBose has committed to Virginia Tech. The two are teammates on the Bay Oaks Club team.
Trey McNorton of Alhambra, will be playing at Cal State East Bay in the fall.

He’s a junior, so once he signs his letter as a senior, we’ll have him on the list.

I thought Davonte and Rana were juniors as well.

Both rosters I’ve seen have them listed as seniors, thankfully. I thought I made a big mistake for a second. You scared me Ebal Fan!

Question, when people say ‘committed to XXX’, do most people imply that a player is getting some scholarship $$? The reason I ask is I saw a list of signees last year and I know for a fact that several were walk-ons, so a commitment like that doesn’t mean much to me – neither party (school or player) have much skin in the game.

It usually just means they’ve been offered a spot on the team. Either a guaranteed walk-on, or full/partial scholarship.

FactChecker,
If it is not a Partial/full scholarships than it can be the following:
1) Guaranteed roster spot no athletic scholarship
2) Walk-on opportunity to earn a spot, no guarantees
