It’s finally here, the North Coast Section basketball Selection Sunday. As most people know by now, the NCS is sticking with its closed door meetings for selecting the fields and so we’ll be following from afar today waiting for the brackets to be released. Ben Enos and myself will be guiding you on a live chat at 3 p.m. to discuss the brackets, so make plans to join us then. Keep an eye on the NCS web site for the brackets to be released as they are completed (they’ll likely come out one by one, probably starting with Division VI). Once they are all released, we’ll get them up here on the blog as well. Talk to you guys at 3 p.m.

Looks like the Div IV appears to be strong again. Kinda cool that all the semifinalist teams qualify for Nor Cals starting this year in each division.

why r we starting so late this year? typically this is already going on. did the commmitte have big parties to go too last nite, so decided to start late>>>LOL

I think they start at Noon and will start getting brackets out about 2:00. A little more work expanding to 16 teams, if they can find 16 teams that are eligible.

Check out the NCS wesite. They already have Divison 2 & 3 posted!

Looks like the NCS committee piggybacked off the Maxprep rankings in Div IV boys.. Scratching my head that teams like Cloverdale (26-2) got seeded a bit lower compared to some other teams, and a well-below .500 team like Justin Siena is in.

Would appreciate if you would post seedings…the NCS site doesn’t like my computer…Thnx

Justin-Siena must have had an above .500 record against other D4 teams, otherwise they would not have been eligible.

D1 is now posted as well

why does college park get home game, league champion and cv wasnt? or is it a typo?
February 21st, 2010 at 1:42 pm
We’ll get something going with a bracket challenge. I’ll work on it.
February 21st, 2010 at 1:48 pm
who do u think could get upset in the first round of division 1?
February 21st, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Yes, College Park was a league champ and CV wasn’t, thus the Trojans have to travel.
February 21st, 2010 at 1:57 pm
cal high, deer valley and san leandro r best upset picks
February 21st, 2010 at 2:18 pm
thanks for clarification, do you have any reason why college park, a league champ is ranked #13 while teams like cal high, deer valley, antioch, san leandro and washington are ranked higher and they werent close in their league standings?
February 21st, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Most likely due to strength of schedule as CP is in the DVAL which is a pretty weak league made up of mostly D2 teams. However, they beat both Oakland Tech and Skyline of Oakland and 22-3 is nice. I have seen CP play and think they would beat both Cal High and Foothill. I haven’t seen #8 Antioch or #9 Deer Valley, but I know San Leandro is a strong team for a #10 seed. #6 Logan and #7 Washington are both decent teams, but a #13 seed for 22-3 league champ CP is brutal.

Any see Ukiah as a dark horse to win D2? (They beat Montgomery 2 out of 3 thus far this year)
February 21st, 2010 at 6:29 pm
* Anyone

I think D2 is a crapshoot, and sure Ukiah has a chance. That division is up for grabs this year. Their toughest battle may be in the semis at #2 Redwood, land of the Giants.

I’ll bet Clear Lake is pretty fired up to play Salesian. Have to admit though, on paper, it’s probably the biggest mismatch in the NCS boys first round of play. February Madness!

Wow…The HAAL has 6 teams in the playoffs…thats really good for the league

I remember the Mt Eden boys teams that went to State in the ’90s. Those guys were good. Hayward has a strong tradition too
