We’re through one round of the NorCal Bracket Challenge and here is our leaderboard. If we’re learned one thing, it’s that giving yourself a handle that begins with Big is not a good idea, as Big Tae and Big Cougar currently sit in the basement. But a lot can change after Thursday’s action.

Jeff takes the early lead, with E_CULB right on his heels. DonFan is missing in action, and fit to win looks fit to win. On to round 2 Thursday where the stakes are doubled and all the best teams are playing. Look for Marcus to make another run up the board. With only 12 points separating Jeff from the Bigs, anything can happen. A pretty good night for the East Bay teams. That Castro Valley double OT loss to Sheldon must have been an amazing game. Deer Valley wins by 61 points??

I will savour this moment as I know a few teams I picked to make a run actually lost! But it feels good seeing my name above the likes of Jimmy Durkin, Kyle Bonagura, Prep Fan among others. Here’s to hoping my teams handle there business on Thursday!

I had a bad first round, but its the same as the NCS challenge. Hope Thursday I can climb the charts

Props to anyone who picked Arcata over Palma. A 7-hour, 383-mile trip that resulted in a home win. Has to be the upset of the first-round based on that alone.

Agree with you there Kyle. I heard that the Arcata boys are laying low in Modesto until the game tomorrow night. I figured on paper it was a fairly even matchup with Palma, but that’s a long 7 hr trip! Go Arcata

Are you serious about Arcata staying in Modesto all week? They had to have taken Tuesday off of school just to play the game last night, if they didn’t actually leave Monday. If they stayed in Modesto, they certainly can’t then drive home 7 hours after a 7:30 game that will end at about 9:30. That would mean they would out of school the whole week if they drove home Friday. But, if they then win tomorrow night, they’ll play again Saturday at Salesian so they might end up not going home until Sunday. I hope they brought enough quarters to do laundry or that could be a nasty ride home when they finally go back.

It’s an intriguing scenario with Arcata..They won almost 400 miles away from home in Salinas last night, they play Modesto Christian, 365 miles from home tomorrow, and if they win, they likely play at Salesian again, almost 300 miles from home. I still find it amazing that they grabbed the vs Palma with the significant travel factor.

pretty impressive for arcata to get that win tuesday night, but if they are staying in hotels and not going to school the rest of the week, it’s just like playing in a weeklong tournament for them, their not actually “traveling” for the rest of the games. didn’t salesian’s beat them pretty good in NCS? i still think it’s crazy to have to travel all that way during school, but hey, they pulled out a win

You do have a point on the “travelling” factor (vs. back back home for school), Bbfan2. Yeah, I like Arcata, but arguably Salesian is a heavy favorite to reclaim their CIF title.

If I remember correctly, Arcata played Salesian close for a quarter or a half, and then he wheels came off and it was a blowout. They should give Modesto Christian a good game tonight.
