I am surprised by how high Monte Vista is ranked. Well ahead of DLS and one spot better than Cal. What do you know that I don’t?
March 15th, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Nothing. I think that is the problem. I haven’t seen a result from DLS at all this year, and I know Cal was down south but haven’t seen all the results from that. This is just the first run, and it will get ironed out soon.
March 15th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
Encinal vs. Alameda High today hope Alameda vs. College Prep Wed gonna be good
March 15th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
I don’t think MSJ should be below Logan and Washington; yes, we have a worse record, but we’ve played a much harder schedule then both of them.
March 15th, 2010 at 8:23 pm
I’d put Foothill, Campo, Logan, Mission San Jose, College Prep and Amador as a tossup in the top 6 and see how they do here in the first couple weeks.
March 15th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
DLS first match this weekend at Deer Valley tourney.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:11 am
Saw Monte Vista at the Deer Valley Jamboree, and they were either missing key players, or they will fall off this list quickly. Foothill was sharp. Deer Valley athletic. And Northgate all looked good, and ranking seems appropriate. SRV is young, has potential, as several key players are just now coming off their tremendous basketball season.

There is a pretty good non-league match between Clayton Valley and Campolindo in Moraga tonight. Match should start around 6, 20 minutes after the JV match.
March 16th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Where is Las Lomas?? JK Matt……
March 16th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
You had me for a second…
I need to see some Las Lomas results, but I’m sure they’ll be tough.
March 16th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
chris, u guys both played foothill and washington took a game from foot hill…u guys didnt…u guys got scraped by both amador and foothill..and washingotns also better than logan, logans worst out of the three sorry to say…
March 16th, 2010 at 6:28 pm
and as for mission being ahead of washington and logan…u guys play logan on thursday correct? so good luck…and where is acelenes from? and i think northgate should be higher than cal…
March 16th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Alrite. The first 5 are a toss-up. Unless we can get some head-too-head matches between those 5, it will be hard to tell. Washington is definitely ahead of Logan. Logan lost against Sacred Heart, while Washington only lost against Foothill (#1 team). Mission cannot be ahead of Washington as they lost 2 games. Although they may have had a “harder” schedule, they lost in 3 against Foothill, while Washington only lost in 4. Therefore, Washington is still better. Logan only has one hitter, and Mission has gotten a lot worse than last year. Monte Vista should not be ranked so high. Washington should be higher up. They KILLED castro valley. Although not a ranked team, winning 25-3 in one game has to count for something, doesn’t it?
March 16th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
You know Foothill pulled their starters in the third game against Washington and lost that one, right? Foothill didn’t pull a single starter against Mission. And even then, we still managed 25-20 and 25-18.
March 16th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
thats coooooooooollllllllllll dont really care…i dont even go to washingotn >.< ahahha
March 16th, 2010 at 6:41 pm
*we still managed to hold out to 20-25 and 18-25.
March 16th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
This is a pretty rough list, hopefully as a few weeks past it’ll come together more accurately.
There is a few pretttttty questionable teams up there.
March 16th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
oh …nice
March 16th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Id put MSJ and DLS over Monte Vista. MV was missing some guys at the jamboree and played well against Foothill.
March 16th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
I am glad people are weighing in with comments. Since I haven’t seen Monte Vista, I wouldn’t be sure that I have them overrated. I appreciate people’s input.
And Nate, I don’t think the list is that rough, but thanks for the input.
March 16th, 2010 at 11:36 pm
sure you dont go to washington “rawness”
March 17th, 2010 at 12:57 am
well some of the msj starters are injured and considering a large amount of starters were pulled out of the washington vs. foothill game made a big difference in the games result
March 17th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
well SeriouslyMayne, if you say that logan really only has one hitter, washington does too. and to beat a team 25-3 is pretty good, but you gotta think about it, most if not all of the players are new to the sport so you should be able to beat a team like that. but when washinton played foothill and mission played foothill, you really cant compare the two games, unless mission had healthy players and foothill never took out their starters.

Hate to say it, but the general opinion on NCVB is that the poll is a joke; they’re wondering whether the Contra Costa Times staff even did significant research.
And if you want to play that game Mayne, I can say that Mission beat Serra, who beat Sacred Heart, who beat Logan.

Great game
March 18th, 2010 at 8:35 am
The poll is most certainly not a joke. It is just hampered by a lack of information so early in the season. Matt cannot be at all games so he must rely on scores and what he knew of the teams returning from last year. At the very least, it is a terrific starting point for a healthy discussion.
March 18th, 2010 at 8:36 am
Thank you MoellerMan. It is certainly a work in progress and will be much more accurate as I see more matches and the season develops.
March 18th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
will this be a poll based on one person’s opinion? or a coaches poll like last year? how many coaches did the polls last year? thx.
March 20th, 2010 at 9:44 am
I just heard that foothill is losing to El Molino right now at the deer valley tournament
March 20th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Alameda highs game at deer valley tournament
Alameda vs. Serra High: Game 1 (L 17-25) Game 2 (L 26-28)
Alameda vs. Foothill High: Game 1 (L 19-25) Game 2 (L 15-25)
Alameda vs. El Molino High: Game 1 (W 25-18) Game 2 (L 23-25) Game 3 (L 9-15)
March 21st, 2010 at 6:38 pm
Foothill was down against El Molino in the second game….after destroying them in the first game. Starting outside Miller didn’t play until the quarterfinals of the tournament because of back pains. Overall we dominated opponents in the tournament without facing much adversity until the semifinals and finals where we pulled out close victories against Oakridge and Chico. I personally think that De la Salle should be ranked higher since they almost beat a solid Chico team in the quarterfinals. They are definitely better than Monte Vista. When do you think an updated list will become available?
April 2nd, 2011 at 11:19 pm
Why is college prep ranked? They already have two league losses against undefeated teams.
