Griffith commits to Davis

San Ramon Valley High middle-distance runner Kevin Griffith made an oral commitment Wednesday to run track for UC Davis.

Griffith finished seventh in the 800 meters in the California Interscholastic Federation state track and field championship last June, and he placed second at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions in the event both last year and as a sophomore in 2008.

UC Davis was the first official visit that Griffith took, in mid-October.

“I had a really great time. … I loved the campus,” he said.

He also took official visits to UCLA, University of Washington and Stanford before choosing the Aggies.

Griffith has also played soccer for San Ramon Valley and ran cross country last fall for the Wolves, where he placed third in the NCS Division I championship race. He said he would not rule out cross country as a prospective sport after his freshman year.

Wow, big news, disappointment for the other schools, this guy great, tall incredible runner (great soccer player, too), choosing Aggies, this will bolster their program big-time that is already on the rise. Will be really exciting to watch how he does EBAL, state this year.
