The semifinals of the 9th annual Standley Cup Tournament at Oliver Park in Hayward are set. A pair of undefeated teams will meet up in one semifinal while two teams expected to be in the mix of their respective leagues will be in the other semis.

The semifinals are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the Championship game slated to start at 1 p.m.
Moreau Catholic, who is off to a 10-0 start will meet up with Montgomery, who is 11-0 entering the match up with the Mariners. Bishop O’Dowd will tangle with defending Mission Valley Athletic League champion Newark Memorial.
Both the Dragons and the Cougars won the late-games in the “unofficial” quarterfinal game. Rachel Nersesian scattered four hits as the Dragons defeated Irvington 4-1.
Sophomore Marissa Chapa, back from an arm injury, had eight strikeouts as the Cougars fought off fellow MVAL-foe American 5-4. Newark scored five times in the first inning, before holding off a late Eagles charge. Chapa helped herself out with a key two-run single in the first.

Pinole goes from being #1 to #10 in 1 week. That is about as sharp a drop as I’ve seen.

    1. Livermore (9) 6-2 149

    2. Freedom (1) 9-3 140

    3. Albany 5-2 117

    4. Concord 10-3 114

    5. San Ramon Vly. 7-3 103

    6. Foothill 4-7 102

    7. Antioch 9-2 84

    8. Clayton Valley 8-3 73

    9. California 7-1 71

    10. Pinole Valley 8-5 55

    11. Bishop O’Dowd 12-2 48

    12. Heritage 7-4 43

    14. Arroyo 6-4 17

I’m surprised that they didn’t fall out of the top 20. That was not a good week for Pinole. Maybe they were over ranked in the beginning. Albany 3 ?????????, Foothill 4 and 7 who would predict that.
