Hendren retires

Longtime Redwood Christian High girls basketball coach Joe Hendren has retired after 18 seasons as head coach of the Eagles. He has a lifetime record of 306-173, which includes a California Interscholastic Federation Division V state championship title in 2000, a CIF Division V state championship berth in 2001, and Central Coast Section Division V crowns in 2001 and 2002.
“Well, mostly it was two fold,” said Hendren, 57, about the reason for his decision. “One, I’ve got five grandchildren, and during the whole winter season, I’m not home much. My wife takes care of the kids, and I don’t get to see them too much. … Part of it, to be honest with you, 18 years with the varsity girls, and 28 years coaching basketball, I kind of needed a breather.
“God has blessed me a million times over, being (at Redwood Christian). It’s been great.”
