One of several open East Bay girls basketball coaching positions is now filled.
Former Carondelet High standout Lexy Tamony has been hired as Heritage’s new girls basketball coach, athletic director Pat Cruickshank confirmed Friday.
Tamony, a 1994 Carondelet graduate, returned to the Cougars’ program as an associate head coach with Margaret Gartner from 1999-2008 after playing three seasons at Cal.
For the last two years Tamony was the athletic director at Notre Dame High in Belmont.
She takes over the Patriots’ program from Orland Caban, who assumed head coaching duties for the second half of last season on an interim basis.
The Patriots went 21-9 and reached the Northern California Division I regional playoffs and the North Coast Section semifinals.
“The more I inquired about program at Heritage it sounded like there was a ton of community support and parent support, and that’s what I’m used to,” said Tamony, who credits Gartner and De La Salle coach Frank Allocco as major coaching influences. “All the kids coming back are dedicated.”
She will also teach math full-time at Heritage.
