Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at 11:43 pm in East Bay Football.

Just got home from a pretty good Contra Costa-Alameda All Star Classic football game at Las Lomas High. The Contra Costa team scored 31 in the first half and then held on to beat Alameda County 31-26. Hopefully my story made it into tomorrow’s paper, but for now, I’ll give you the box score because I know that won’t be in there. Hopefully we’ll get that in on Tuesday. Here ya go.

    Nice game GORTON!

  3. brandonbeard Says:

The kid from Albany has some Noce speed out there. And who was the Henderson Kid From cc?

  4. All Day Says:

Henderson has is going to a d-2 school in Arizona. He went to school @ at Pinole Valley HS under Coach Alameda. Great speed and excellent size. I think he is 6’1″ and 180lbs.

  5. KillerD Says:

    How was the game?

I heard Alameda county was terrible is that true?

  6. Panther Fan Says:

Killer D – No Alameda was not terrible. Their coach was. He was utterly and completely outcoached in every way. He did have any inkling as to who his playmakers were. I have a strong sense that he played players who had sponsership. In other words, it seemed to be more about money or something that had nothing to do with on field stuff.

Let’s review for Coach Wright what the purpose of an All Star game is. It is for the players. It is a reward and recognition for the accomplishments of the great seasons the players had. It is also, potentially, the last chance many of them will have to play football. Even with their great abilities, as we know, it is difficult to play at the next level. So an All Star coach’s primary responsibility is to make sure EVery player on the squad gets as manypportunities to play as possible. You don’t give any one player the bulk of the reps.

To back up the “out coached” comment. All you have to know is that the openning play of the game was a “flea flicker” pass for a TD. There were two of those. One to start the game and one to end the half. That’s 14 points. Also, on Alameda’s first offensive possesion of the game, he calls what looked like a wide receiver screen, that Henderson picked off for a TD. That’s 21 points off of stupidity.

Look, those of you who have read my posts know that I hve NEVER once criticized a coach. This guy was a boob. No other way to put it. I had JC coaches approaching me asking what he was doing. I had no answers.

I appreciate his time, but it is as much a privelage for the coach who gets to coach an All Star team as it is for the players to play (or not in this case). Honor that privelage and be committed to making the game a great memory for ALL the players. Or stay home and let someone who “gets it” prawl the sidelines.

Henderson is a beast. I coached him when he was 10 – 12 years old. Not only is he a legit D1 talent, he is a tremendous young man. He will do quiet well.

I better sign off, before I say something that might get me in trouble.

    Love, peace and chicken grease!
    Go Panthers!

  7. peng1 Says:

Credit to the Freedom coaching staff for having those kids prepared to play.

  8. All Day Says:

Panther Fan, what school is DBR going to attend in the fall?

  9. Island02 Says:

    Pantherfan,

along with DBR, where’s Najee Lovett going this fall?

  10. Panther Fan Says:

All Day – Thanks for asking. He is not sure. He has some options (D1-AA’s, D2′s, D-3′s and JC’s). D is a very, let’s say, eccentric personailty. :-) He thinks in a very “outside the box” way. He views himself as much more than a football player. He is very curious and intrigued about seeing the world, and being exposed to the Global Community. As much as we love to see him play, we love that he sees himself as more than an athelte and support his decision whatever that may be. He has sacrificied a lot and we encourage him to blaze his own path.

At this point he may not play next year. He wants to broaden his horizans. This summer he is going to Washington DC to represent Northern California in a program for young scholars. For next year it looks like he is going to travel to Peru and study Spanish. That is the plan for now. He has a number of coaches trying to convince him that their Spanish programs are great, lol, but he wants to travel.

    We will see…

    Go Panthers!

  11. Panther Fan Says:

Island02 – I’m not sure. Najee has some options as well. Last I heard, he was thinking of joining Coach Carter at CC. As you all konw, Najee is VERY talented and perhaps undervalued (like DBR) because of his size. I would suggest to all that you should look out for Naj. I would bet my last check that he ends up playing at a four year somehwere and doing very well. He reminds me of the odlest Coogler, who started at ST. Mary’s (before they dropped football) and ended up at Sac State. Naj is too good an athelte not to excell. He is also a great kid with a tremendous family supporting him.

    Go Panthers!

  12. Island02 Says:

Hey Pantherfan you have to love and admire a young man like that. He is truly a talent ; but , football is temporary and will always be there. Good for DBR he’s definately a role model for our younger players if he’s able to make decisions like that and be good with it.

  13. Panther Fan Says:

Island02 – Thank you for your kind words. It is appreciated.

    Go Panthers!

  14. Island02 Says:

Pantherfan I totally agree. My son and Najee played at Deer Valley back in 2005 before Baj hurt his ankle. Your right his parents are great and he will end up in somebody’s 4 yr program

  15. All Day Says:

Good for him Panther Fan, tell him I said follow your dreams and have fun doing it. Island 02 N. Lovett is attending Contra Costa College.

  16. Panther Fan Says:

Thanks All Day. That is very kind of you. I will express your sentiments to D.

    Go Panthers!

  17. All Day Says:

There was some 7 on 7 football @ CCC on Saturday. 16 schools in the varsity tournment and 6 in the jv tournment. Had a chance to see two excellent running backs, the young man from Alameda HS. I think his last name is Cunningham and S. Morrow from Rodriguez HS. Two of the best backs in the bay. Not sure who won the varsity but Rodriguez HS won the jv tournment. I think they played Arroyo in the championship game. The jv QB for Rodriguez is small but very impressive. They also have 2 excellent recievers that can play varsity at different schools. I believe Rodriguez jv team even played against Mack varsity in a game. I impressed with the showing that Kennedy HS performed. There was also a very good lineman competition. Good job by Coach Alonzo Carter and his staff @ CCC.

  18. Coach Trot Says:

How’d Arroyo look with there new offense?

  19. All Day Says:

Arroyo’s played with the most intensity that I have seen out of that program in a long time. I don’t know the coach but he must be doing something right. They a tall receiver and he is very fast on the varsity level. Very well coached jv team.

  20. Coach Trot Says:

Thanks all day, Heard O’dowd was playing with alot of intensity and fire at the cal camp as well.. Looks like the new coaching staffs are getting the kids to buy in… Great for the HAAL…

  21. All Day Says:

I was at the Cal camp checking out some local action and you heard correct,
O’dowd team and coaching staff was at Cal on Fire every time I seen them

  22. Warrior Jacket Says:

All Day, MACK beat Berkeley 14-9 for the varsity championship of the CC 7 on 7 tournament. It was a very good game that came down to the last play. Berkeley had a chance to win it at the end but couldn’t pull it out.

  23. ManDown Says:

Where is Electric WR? I see that other people feel the same way about your beloved coach Wright. Hahaha!

  24. ManO'War Says:

Actually, Coach Wright must have done something right (to the extent you can argue about a coach in a game like this), because it was 31-6 at halftime, yes, but Alameda battled back to get close to tying in the second half (missing on a 2-point conversion), had obvious momentum before suffering unfortunate penalty that caused a first down rather than a 3 and out and another offensive possession. That penalty was not the fault of a coach, nor were the majority of the plays just because they did not work. Contra Costa tried hard but could not score in the second half. That fact cannot be overlooked just so someone can blame a coach for the entire performance.

  25. island02 Says:

Thanks Allday for the Najee update, I heard “Concrete” is also attending CC. Coach Zo is building a program and these other programs better take notice. The 7-7 tourney was good, there was some good competition out there. Yes JFK looked real good against all their opponents, they gave Berkeley a game. Coach Barnes at Arroyo is doing a great job… but Alameda got with ‘em…lol! Oakland High looked like they may be able to make some noise in the OAL, and Coach Simms has an aerial attack over in Berkeley. Alameda won their bracket beating Skyline,El Cerrito, Rodriguez , and Arroyo but didn’t have all the answers for Berkeley. Overall I was pleased with Alamedas performance and look forward to this season.

  26. allroads Says:

    ManO’War,

I appreciate your altruism in Jacob’s defense. But the reality of a 31-6 halftime score for CC was that everyone gets to play in the 2nd half. So that means CC’s best in the first half probably didn’t get the same time in the 2nd. Which means CC’s head coach showed a good deal of professionalism in his game calling.

What gives me chuckle is that Jacob is a DC, and his all-star crew gets smoked for 31 points in the first half.

  27. PERKIN Says:

Who was in the finals?? I heard it was Berekely & Alameda not B-high & MAC.

  28. island02 Says:

Perkin, Berkeley beat Alameda and Mack beat I believe Marin Catholic , then Mack beat Berkeley in the finals.

  29. ManDown Says:

It sounds like Alameda will be making some noise in the ACCAL this year. The only team that should really give them issues is Berkeley.
    1. Berkeley
    2. Alameda
    3. Pinole Valley
    4. El Cerrito
    5. Hercules
    6. De Anza
    7. Richmond

  30. randall Says:

where could u find pics from the game

  31. Warrior Jacket Says:

Actually Perkin the semi-final for the 7 on 7 CCC tourney was Berkeley vs. Alameda and MACK vs. Washington of Fremont. Brekeley lost to MACK in the final 14-9.

  32. island02 Says:

Thanks for the correction warrior jacket, I left after our loss to Berkeley and wasn’t sure who Mack was playing.

  35. Panther Fan Says:

Allroads – Well stated. You took the words out of my mouth. CC called off the dogs. Wright put his team in a hole to start he game both with personel decisions and being outcoached. 2 halfback option passes??? Really??? Maybe I could understand 1, but 2, in a half! As a DC how do you not see that coming?

Look, its an all-star game. Who really cares about the score (besides the players and the coach). What I don’t understand is how one could be so disconnected with being even with reps. I could make a stong argument about who he started and how rediculous that was, but that would reflect on the kids, and I won’t go there. It matters less who starts (except for the fact that season performance should weight in out of respect for the season accomplishments) than it matters that a coach work his ass off with his staff to stay aware of giving the ENTIRE team equal chances to shine and therefore improve the coach’s chances of looking more competant.

Anyway, as poor a job as Wright did. And it was poor! His time is appreciated and I hope he continues to grow as a coach and learn from his almost farcical performance.

    Go Panthers!

  36. Prep Fan Says:

who are our East Bay guys in NCAA D-1????

  37. FOX Says:

Hey Panther Fan! Nice to see you’re still here! Best wishes to your son. Seems like a very mature young man.

  38. cal Says:

Patrone Dad- Great highlights, as usual. Love that play at 3:30.

  39. Panther Fan Says:

Fox. Thanks. He has his days as all 18 year olds do. And of course he knows it all right?? Lol. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Btw – I forgot to bring up one of my favorite players who shined again! Evan Ray has to be one of the most under-rated players in the East Bay. This guy just makes football plays all over the field, on both sides of the ball! Seriously, why does this guy fly under the radar? I really hope he is getting a shot somewhere. He is so versatile and is a complete football player. Shot out to Mr. Ray! Do your thing young man!

    Go Panthers!

  40. ManO'War Says:

“CC called off the dogs.” Nope, can’t swallow that either, sorry. Things like a fumbled kickoff return, trick play for a score, etc., can’t really fairly be blamed on a coach in an all-star game. If the CC players were there to showcase, only 35 per team, they would do so. Hard to say they were called off, etc. They didn’t want to score in the second half? You could put Ralphie the dog out there (much less an all-star) and he would try to score, or stop somebody. There are other motives behind the scenes here it appears, valid or not. Game was too close at the end; – not because somebody wasn’t tryin hard. Watch the film of the second half, then try tell us what you mean.

  41. Panther Fan Says:

Man O’ War – You make some good points. Surely, the Alameda defense played better in the second half. And, if Wright is a DC, that reflects on him positvely. But I would suggest that CC’s intensity level dropped off significantly after getting out to a 31-6 lead. And, of course, Alameda was playing for pride (which is a credit to the players AND the coach, for not quitting). Apparently, you have access to the game film. I do not. If you do, watch both halves, I am sure you will notice a change in personel. The second half CC team was clearly a smaller, less imposing group. In other words, the CC coach seemed to have a better idea of who his front-line personel were. And after the first half ass whooping, he made changes. While all the players were All Star’s, even in an All Star team there are players who have more playmaking abilities than others. Coach Wright had playmakers on the sideline watching the whole game. Some say, the best defense is a potent offense. Wright’s offensive approach was…well, offensive.

I cannot agree with you that the 2 trick plays do not reflect on the coach. I think it clearly reflects on both coaches. Exhibition type games are absolutely the kind of games to use those plays. It shows that one coach was prepared and the other was not. If his strenght is the defensive side of the ball, how could his defense be so totally unprepared for that kind of play? Twice in one half.

I am bored with this subject. Almost as bored as I was watching his offense. We can agree to disagree. The most imporant perspective on a coach’s performance would come from his peers. Not parents in the stands or even media. Speaking with a number of his coaching peers, they were utterly unimpressed and even bewildered by his game plan and stunned by some of his decisions.

At any rate, I responded to your post, because it was so intelligently written, I thougth it deserved a response. Thanks for your thoughts. Hopefully, your guy shows all of us how “great” a coach he is this year. Best of luck to him, his team and you.

    Go Panthers!

  42. ManDown Says:

You are talking about a coach who is 12-28 over the past couple of years.

  43. ManO'War Says:

Hey P Fan, thank you, your points appreciated. Would point out, “CC’s intensity level dropped off significantly” – possibly right, not really a coaching thing, but coming back is. Film I saw btw was the Patrone’s dad cool youtube. “Alameda was playing for pride” – true, both sides were, but needs to be orchestrated or facilitated somehow from the sideline generally, often a coach’s task. “Even in an All Star team there are players who have more playmaking abilities than others” – true, but I think you assume too much when you imply the better guys never got back in(?). “Coach Wright had playmakers on the sideline watching the whole game” – not sure what that means, admittedly didn’t follow that aspect really. “I cannot agree with you that the 2 trick plays do not reflect on the coach” – can agree to disagree, I just don’t think in an all-star game you can get to that point to say a coach wasn’t ready for such (unless the Freedom guy had reputation for that, and maybe he does?). Don’t know about remarks of others as to prowess or not, but let’s face it, it IS easier to criticize when you are not in the game. But a bad record Man-Down would concern me. Hopefully he’s good-intentioned, since I’d rather have a good-intentioned not-so-great coach than a good “coach” with crappy character personally, because a good guy will try to fix things and get better, but bad character can drag everything down and come back to bite you – PS, he is not “my guy” – I don’t even know him, I’m just hoping to keep it all real, no jumping to conclusions. Sounds like you though bored may have an issue however! ;-) (sorry) Maybe not. But may Truth prevail, over all, this season regardless!

  44. Oalfan Says:

Let’s talk about how MACK is going to run threw the OAL!

  45. Oalfan Says:

I know if Mack were in the HAAL they would dominate every year like BOD and SLD do every year. I wonder why the North Coast Section will have BOD and not other Oakland Schools. I believe that the competition would be a lot better.

  46. Oalfan Says:

The ACAL… That league needs to be busted up!

  47. island02 Says:

Oalfan, I played @ O-High back in the 80′s , and for as long as I can remember the OAL commish, wanted to stay independant. So I don’t think it’s the NCS;but, the OAL doesn’t want to be affiliated. That would be a strong argument to bring to the commisioner, I believe the OAL would be competitive as part of NCS, and represent well. As for the ACCAL breaking up it, where would you place the teams? Alameda could go to the HAAL, but what about the others. Just wondering what your thoughts on this would be since you brought it up.

  48. FROMDUSKTILDON Says:

HAS ANYONE BEEN TO ANY FULL CONTACT CAMPS YET

  49. ManDown Says:

Who has had a full contact camp?

  50. old former meddling coach. Says:

Encinal was at a Full Contact Camp at Castro Valley.

  51. Footballfanatic Says:

I was at the Cal Full Contact Camp, where O’dowd looked like they were playing with a chip on their shoulder. They dominated Berkeley High in the scrimmage

  52. FROMDUSKTILDON Says:

    any predictions 4 the haal
    who has the inside track
    on the championship

  53. All Day Says:

The OAL and SF section should be included in the NCS and CCS playoffs for Football and Baseball or any other sport where there is no State championship format. They should be allowed to remain their own independent section if they choose to remain that way.
Footballfanatic O’dowd, Rodriguez(Fairfield), and Centininal(Baskersfield) were the best performing teams at the Cal camp.

  54. renegades10 Says:

the oal section would do just fine in NCS in all sports regardless. the only difference being instead of being a league champ and going to straight NorCals they would have to go through a section tournament too. but given the fact that their teams have won norcal titles especially in basketball i think they could hold their own in section. the San Fran section is another matter.

  55. ManDown Says:

If the OAL joins the NCS then they will have to follow NCS rules. Some of players wouldn’t be eligible to play and that could be a problem for some schools in the OAL. But it would be great to see that happen. I would love to see those OAL school be apart of NCS.

  56. norcalfball Says:

definately can compete in basketball…but football is really a year by year basis…some years they would some years they would get only the league champ in…mac this year could no doubt compete at a high level in ncs d1…wouldn’t win it but would be competitive…

but dont see them competing in soccer, baseball, volleyball, swimming, etc…

i think the best would be to compete in ncs for basketball and football…but like mandown said would have to adhere to stricter grade requirements…but then again everyone has their own grade options…

for instance in the EBAL most if not all the teams can use get out of jail free cards to all of a sudden become eligible no matter the grades…i know for the most part these kids get good grades i know SRV is always one of the highest in the state for their football team…but i am sure 1 or 2 kids a year are benefiting from this when other schools may not have the same options…i believe they can only use this once per year, but if you are a 1 sport athlete then always safe…i know some other schools that have to go by the 2.0 requirements no iff’s and’s or butt’s about it…this is something that is not advertised otherwise NCS would probably take some heat for certain schools having more leniancy…

  57. Spartan83 Says:

Way to go Donovan! Making us Spartan fans proud! We will miss you this coming season. Best of luck in Arizona!

    #2′s dad

  58. DONPRIDE"asst" Says:

lol lol I agree but don’t for get that the OAL is a up and done league this year Mack next Castlemont then Fremont so it all dependes on the year.
Now Alameda played a good game but there was alot of crying going on “to physical” and WE had 5 starts missing because of vacation !!! But watch out for the baby Dons they will come to play.

DON PRIDE “BACK TO THE TOP THE HARD WAY”

  59. jp lose Says:

Mac will dominate the Oal this year they have a huge line and very good athletes they have looked very good at several passing leagues. I would love to see this years squad play in the NcS would be interesting too bad that won’t happen but in future i beleive OAL will join the rest of the EBay and play in NCS it’s just time.

  60. Oalfan Says:

Finally someone agrees with me (JP Lose) you know what you are talking about. MACK would run the table if they were in the NCS.

  61. Oalfan Says:

( Man Down ) You don’t know what you are talking about. The OAL follows the same CIF rules when it comes to eligibility as the NCS.

  62. island02 Says:

DonPride, You are correct the Alameda/Arroyo game was a good one, very competitive and physical. I do believe we were just as physical as any team out there, and as for the crying, and the 5 starters missing , I don’t know what thats all about. Our RB Cunningham dished out some pretty physical play and was the recipient of some also, and I didn’t hear a word from him. He just lined back up and played ball. I appreciate the physical game you guys brought, it helps our guys get a feel for what to expect. Good luck this season and maybe we’ll see eachother somewhere down the road.

    Coach Cunningham

  63. ManDown Says:

Yes, I’m sure you guys follow the same rules. It’s so many bad things happening inside that league. Not anybody’s fault but the OAL commish for letting that league get out of hand.

  64. renegades10 Says:

I don’t know that Mack would run the table in NCS…

  65. norcalfball Says:

yeah gets annoying no offense when every year some team spouts out about running ncs and dominating everyone…when nobody beats DLS…

one year it is monte vista, the next encinal, then berkeley, then etc. etc, etc…

please people stop saying you would run the table in NCS especially not until DLS loses a East Bay game…

i am not a DLS fan and would love to see an east bay team beat them, but until that happens they are year and year out the best team…

mack is no doubt loaded this year, but again when is the last time mack beat a legitimate NCS D1 team…while they may be able to this year it is silly to talk the trash when the history just isn’t there…carter had some real good teams when he was there, but still DLS would have beaten them.

  66. c.sparks Says:

mack run NCS? i can only see them winning divsion 4? but 1,2,3 NO WAY!

  67. Oalfan Says:

Carter did have have some great teams with Tatum Ward and Hill. All went on to play in top Div 1 programs.

DLS would never schedule a top team from the OAL because of the superior athletes.

(#65 Norcalfball) MACK plays the NCS powerhouse Pitt this year so make sure you are back on this Blog after the game…

  68. pitt-HIGH Says:

man the OAL is weak….lol…i got luv for my boys that played in the OAL, but come on now bruh…i finished at pitt in 94…we were the last team to beat DLS….but anyways…on this Mack tip..mack is not going to run nothing…all that talent they may have will mean nothing if you cant coach them…we play mack this year and watch what happens…they r not going to beat us…and who cares about passing league…lol..lol..last year they said they were going to take the OAL just like Tech said they were going to take it.. and look what happen…that green team won it all…and when we were at that weak championship game it looked like tech had a better team..so my question is to you guys, is it better to have all the talent in the world or better to have a good coach and staff to teach the kids….cuz we all went to that silverbowl game last year and it looked like the other team only had that big kid tech couldnt to stop…but what happen they got out coached….to my OAL friends ya know i got luv for you guys…lol..lol….

  69. PERKIN Says:

Kids have to show up to be coached. Can’t put it all on the coaching staffs. The OAL has it worse then any other league or area by far. I heard MAC didn’t show up to a Passing League game last week, didn’t hear any reasons, but it doesn’t take a Rocket scientist to figure not enough kids showed up that day. Its probably part of the reason Barnes left Castlemont & part of the reason Culberson left MAC. Just my guess but I hear that league really has it bad.

  70. Marcus Reed Says:

Its very true about the silver bowl game. I cant lie, when I saw the roster and all the players on the sideline for Tech, I thought Tech was gonna destroy Fremont. Fremont had only ONE main guy and Tech had about 3 D1 athletes. They both ran the same offense and they both couldnt pass at all. So it came down to the run and no one couldnt stop Concrete from running the ball.

Yes every year the OAL has different winners every year, but they also have issues when it comes to players. Mac is loaded and I would love to see Mac in the NCS but I dont know if its gonna happen.

  71. Coach Mac Says:

    Perkin
The reason that Mack didn’t play in the laney passing league last week is because Laney did not forward the revised schedule to us. Our time went from 8:00p to 6:00 p.

  72. jp lose Says:

I dnt beleive mac would run the table in Ncs or necesarily beat DSL I think it would be intersting to see how they did in the tournament . I also think DSL time is coming. they’ll lose to an east bay team soon here real soon. Kids not flocking out there like in the past. Mack pittsburgh game ought to be a good one looking forward to that one. alot of good athletes in that one. Div 1 prospects also.

  73. Oalfan Says:

(#68 Pitt _ High) Why would you take a shot a Coach Mac and his staff?

Are you saying that the OAL Coaches are not experienced to coach their players?

For the record every coach in the OAL has either played in the NFL or coached at a college level.

  74. PERKIN Says:

Coach MAC do you have dedicated group of kids that show up to 90% practices?

  75. Coach Mac Says:

    Perkin
We have kids that come to work every day. They understand that to get better at this game you must pay the price. I don’t tollerate missed practices.

  76. Coach Mac Says:

    #68 Pitt Coach

Thank you I used your blog as motivation for my team. Keep um coming.

  77. ManDown Says:

    Coach Mac,
All of your players show up everyday? Wow! Thats amazing and I hope you guys keep it up and good luck this year. Do you really think that you will beat Pitt?

How does Encinal look this year? Someone said earlier on the blog that they had a camp with Castro Valley. What do they look like now that they lost Duckett?

  78. PERKIN Says:

Well you heard it hear first MACs coaching staff is taking all the heat for McClymonds possibly underachieving. He says he has a dedicated group of kids that are always at practice. We all heard they have a lot of good returners this year so if they’re trash can’t blame it on the players.

Kind of weird cuz I heard that MAC isn’t at any contact camps this summer because they’re players can’t be relied on. They usually do a couple. I stand corrected.

Hey coach you have a lot of integrity to say that. Good Luck to you.

  79. Coach Mac Says:

    Mandown

I go into each and every game to win. I don’t care who it is. I don’t know and can never predict the outcome of any game. That is TBD.

    Perkin

We are in contact camps. I’ve never heard that we are no reliable. We just won the 7 on 7 tournament at CCC as well as the Big Man Challenge.

  80. PERKIN Says:

What camps you doing Coach Mac? I heard you weren’t going back to Marin Catholic’s this summer.

  81. Oalfan Says:

    (#78 PERKIN)

Are you trying to say if MACK dosen’t win this year that it is going to be the Coaches fault?

  82. Coach Mac Says:

    Perkin
There is a new coach at Marin Catholic and we were not invited.

We will go to the CCC Camp.

  83. PERKIN Says:

I said if they underachieve. Yes then the coaches are terrible. He says his guys are there everyday. They’re loaded with talent. They should be very good. The same wrap I give Coach Wright. Everybody I talk to says he has kids at his practices & work-outs everyday. He should be better.

ON the flip side I hear Fremont High barely had 7-8 kids at Spring Ball. I hear they just barley started showing up when Passing League started. You can’t blame the coaches for them underachieving. Coach Mac says he doesn’t tolerate misses but what are you gonna do if only 7-8 kids show to practice. Cancel your program? OAL makes each team have a minimum of 20 kids are the roster too play a game.

  84. Oalfan Says:

    #83 PERKIN

Thanks for explaining you have a valid point… I guess it is up to Coach Mac and his staff to get his Boys ready.

  85. norcalfball Says:

to OALfan…i will be the first won to congratulate you if they knock off pitt..if they do they are legit NCS team..if they don’t well they aren’t…and still got to remember even by beating pitt it doesn’t mean you would run through NCS…how did pitt do vs DLS last year…

so like i said…mac is loaded and good luck this season…but don’t say you will run through NCS until you are running though DLS…because sorry to say they are NCS…as much as we all hate to admit it, i know i do…

  86. norcalfball Says:

interasting non league schedules out there this year…glad to see some top teams playing each other…
looks like based on teams who have posted schedules this is the top 5 ranking based on last years cal preps ratings…

    #1 DLS
    #2 Pitt
    #3 Washington (tied with foothill)
    #3 Foothill
    #5 SRV

should make for a very interasting year…interasting note washington is D2 now, but playing a D1 schedule…

anybody know who MV has besides granite bay? (could be on list but dont know other non league games)
how about cal high, deer valley, san leandro?

probably only other teams that would play a top notch schedule like those.

  87. renegades10 Says:

MV is playing Serra, didn’t know they were playing GB though.

  88. Coach Trot Says:

San Leandro has Bellermane prep on the road.
    Logan @ home
Chavez on the road for Preseason..

  89. Oalfan Says:

    #86 Norcalfball

What would happen if Bob Ladouceur took over at MACK?

  90. southallstar Says:

@pantherfan, as a player that played in this years allstar game, i feel we were outchoached. it seems like coach wright was favoring certain players. i as a player started, but was taken out after our qb threw a pick. i didnt touch the field after that. The logan qb was a real playmaker for us, and should have played more downs. we had no real offensive scheme, basically run left, right, and pass. Overall it was my not what i want my final football game to be remembered as

  91. Warrior Jacket Says:

Berkeley HS is scheduled to play Pittsburg,Freedom, Marin Catholic and Oakland HS for their nonleague schedule.

  92. Warrior Jacket Says:

Berkeley will also be at the CCC contyact camp.

  93. concrete17 Says:

All the talk about the OAL and the NCS is just talk because the OAL does not want to be any part of the NCS just as the San Francisco section does not want to be any part of the CCS. The OAL Commissioner Michael Moore Sr has made it very clear he wants the League separate and hence on an equal footing with the NCS when it comes to playoffs.

In an article in the Tribune by Katy Murphy, 8/18/08 there is a complete layout of Commissioner Moore’s position on the OAL’s participation in NorCal Prep sports. I believe there was another debate and vote this past fall 2009 in which both the SF section and OAL section voted to remain independent.

  94. Oalfan Says:

The OAL should stay a league and Join the NCS!

  95. Jimmy Durkin Says:

I’ll chime in quickly to say that the OAL staying together as a league and joining the NCS isn’t really an option. The NCS meets to realign every four years with enrollments playing a big role in how league are set up and there’s no way a league with schools of Division I enrollment (Skyline, Oakland Tech) would stay in a league with a Division IV enrollment school (McClymonds). Chances are Skyline, Tech and Oakland would stay together and maybe join with other bigger schools such as Berkeley, Alameda, maybe even reunite with former OAL member San Leandro. I could see Castlemont, Fremont and Mack staying together and joining some of your smaller schools like Encinal, Piedmont, etc.

  96. PERKIN Says:

Not necessarily how things always go during realignment. Look at B-high they can’t get out of the ACCAL to save their lives & they can never seem to break up the HAAL no matter how hard they try.

  97. concrete17 Says:

Jimmy Durkin……..as an Oakland Prep writer what do you see as the advantages/disadvantages of the OAL to remain as its own section in the CIF and advantages/disadvantages to becoming a league within the NCS?

At the very least the SF section should merge with the Oakland section. Having these two cities be their own sections seems to be a relic of a time long past.

  98. EBfootball Says:

Didn’t the OAL lose all their games to NCS teams last year? The OAL is the only league that calls their non-league games “pre-season” games. The don’t take thasw games seriously because they really don’t mean Jack for their playoffs. So of course kids don’t show up til school starts.

Joining the NCS would force Oakland to step their game up. Their is so much talent out
here it’s amazing but also so much underachieving.

Also, in my research, the only one who benefits from the OAL being a section is the OAL section Commissioner. If the OAL joins the North Coast Section he loses his job.

  99. FROMDUSKTILDON Says:

if u do the research follow the money trail somebody pockets are getting fat nothing is done without money being the reason the OAL needs 2 b dissolve

  100. Coach Murph Says:

I think Mac is going to be good and they would do good in the NCS. Coach MCCauley is a good coach and he has a good staff. And they have the talent. Marcus Peters is a beast. I think the OAL should stay a league and compete in the NCS. I graduated from OHIGH in 94 and we were the Ranked #2 behind De La in Football and #2 Behind ODOWD in baseball. And never got to compete in the NCS. So we could not really show how good we were because we did have a chance to compete against all the top schools.

  101. Eureka Fan Says:

McClymonds opens with small-school powerhouse Ferndale(160 enrollment). Mack will have twice the talent, yet I believe Ferndale comes out on top. Then Castlemont travels up to Eureka. Just like last year, I think the Loggers will roll the undisciplined Knights. Maybe Coach White will have his troops a little more prepared than Coach Barnes did last year. We shall see, only two months from the opener. Oh yeah!

  102. Coach Mac Says:

    Thanks coach Murph

I played on the 1981 10-0 Oakland High football team. That was the year that the Silver Bowl was created because Oakland High and Skyline beat all of the NCS teams. Oakland High finished #1 and Skyline #2 in northern California but wasn’t allowed to participate in the NCS championship game. The real championship was at fruitval field 1vs2 in the eastbay. We beat all of the NCS champions. El Cerrito,Salesian. Our biggest win was Grenada 40-15 with the NFL quarterback Jack Tradeu at Granada.

  103. jp lose Says:

Washington High schedule is a beast but if deandre Carter can have spme big games. they could come out of non confrence 3-1 Cal high game is a revenge game and SRV will be the big one. I like the teams oAL have scheduled this year out of conference we’ll see what there true worth is. oal should stay together as a conference and join ncs. you should always want to compete against the best i think coach mack would agree.
only person gaining from this is the Oal commisioner this is about the kids and not your job. The coaches want in and so the the players.

  104. island02 Says:

Coach Mac I remember that season. O-High was loaded with Lorenzo Lynch, Marvin Jones, Brian Spillar, Dawayne Porter, the Simmons twins, Alfred and Avery, just to name a few, and the OAL was loaded with players that season. One of the greatest OAL teams ever!Good luck this season Coach Mac, Coach Patton, and the rest of the staff.

  105. island02 Says:

Oh yeah and the Granada game O-High picked Trudeau 5 times!

  106. DONPRIDE"asst" Says:

Eureka call coach jb and he can set somthing up. you guys did your thing last year but a young undersize and low number Castlemont team played better then the playoff teams you guys played last year.

    best of luck 2010 !!!

  107. Oalfan Says:

    2010 OAL RANKINGS

    1. MACK
    2. Tech
    3. Castlemont
    4. Fremont
    5. Oakland
    6. Skyline

  108. PERKIN Says:

Why is Castlemont traveling to Eureka 2 years in a row?? Whatever they offered pay for transportation whatever is not worth traveling 2 years in a row that far.

  109. knightpride Says:

Eureka came to Castlemont last year !!

  110. PERKIN Says:

Sorry KnightPride the Eureks guys said travel up to Eureka like last year. I just know they’re are programs out there that will offer soemthing for a team to travel 2 years in a row & I don’t think thats worth it. Pitt did that to Fremont High & I knw that Monterey has done that to teams in the past. I think DeAnza was the last to get suckered into that by Monterey.

  111. Eureka Fan Says:

Eureka traveled to Castlemont last year. Castlemont is at Eureka this year. I said “like last year”, Eureka will dominate against an undisciplined defense trying to stop a well oiled wing-t offense.

  112. PERKIN Says:

Eureka fan get over yourself. I see that Eureka hasn’t petitioned up to D-II so they can defend its D-II championship. Cause their Coach knows he has no USC recruit & will have a down year thats why their competing at D-III.

  113. EHS Logger Says:

Perkin- I think Eureka Fan was just clarifying that Eureka had made the trip to Oakland in 09 and that Castlemont will travel this year. I was having a hard time following the posts so I’m glad he did clarify.

Actually Eureka will be competing at DIII because that is the level for the size of their school. Last year Eureka was one of the smallest so this year we will be one of the largest in its division. It really is a no win situation for us either way. Many questioned the 4 seeding that Eureka had, but NCS got it right as the the top 4 teams competed in the semi and championship round. Now you are knocking us for not staying in DII. Like I said no win.

  114. ManDown Says:

Eureka is in D-III now? Why would they not petition back up to D-II after they just won it all? EHS Logger how do you think Eureka will do this year without that Big Time recruit?

  115. EHS Logger Says:

We are returning several key plyers who started as juniors- qb-DeMartini, rb/db-Wilkinson, rb/lb-Faulk, wr/db-Spaight. The o-line should be strong. Look for the Loggers to be competetive.

  116. PERKIN Says:

Compete at D-II until you lose you just won it all. What if they win it all at D-III all anybody will say is why didn’t they go up to D-II they could have went back to back. Winning a Major League championship then winning Triple A the next year is weak. I think its more of a no win at D-III.

  117. Eureka Fan Says:

Perkin, besides Ferndale there is no other public school that petitions up. The only reason Ferndale does it is because Div. 5 is so much weaker than Div. 4, they probably would have won the last 15 section titles. Plus, Div. 3 is going to be just as loaded at the top as Div. 2. You’ll have Novato, Cardinal Newman, Encinal, Eureka, Petaluma, Ygnacio Valley, amongst others. It’s going to be a tough road. Eureka already won Div. 2 as the smallest school, what else do they have to prove?
