Brittany Boyd commits to Cal

When Brittany Boyd goes to college, the Berkeley High girls basketball star won’t need to leave the city limits.
Boyd, a nationally-ranked recruit, decided to stay local and gave her oral commitment to Cal coach Joanne Boyle on Wednesday.
“It’s close to home and the degree. I’m thinking of what I’ll do after college,” Boyd said of her reasons for picking the Bears. “The recruiting process was getting a little overwhelming and in my heart I felt Cal was the place for me.”
Boyd, a point guard, averaged 17.8 points and 6.7 assists last season for the Yellowjackets, who won the North Coast Section Division I title and advanced to the Northern California regional finals. She said she picked Cal over Washington, Miami, Kansas and Clemson.
The incoming senior is ranked as the nation’s No. 30 recruit for the class of 2011 by ESPN Hoopgurlz. She recently participated in tryouts for the under-18 national team.
Boyd can sign her letter of intent on Nov. 10.

I tried to add this link to the original post, but it wasn’t working. Hoopgurlz also talked to Brittany about her commitment: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/womens/news/story?id=5346707

Yes, Deanna Calhoun of Albany HS gave her oral commitment to USC earlier this month. Lots of girls committing early this year!

I love that these kids are staying local. Boyd and Payne staying real close and Calhoun staying in Cali. It will be great to follow them in the local papers.

Congrats to both Brit and Erica. Those are both top notch schools and like Junkie I’m glad they are staying local. Plus, we still get another season to watch them at the HS level.

I hope “C_Culb” is rehabbing well and going to be at full strength this season. Best of luck to her.
