  1. footballfan Says:

Are you guys covering any of tonights games on live chat?

  2. outsider Says:

Is the College Park vs Alhambra game on KTVU tonight?

  3. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Nope, no live chat tonight. Just not enough bodies around so it’s going to be tough this year to do those. However, I believe we’re aiming to bring you a I’ve chat when De La Salle hosts Bishop Gorman in three weeks.

  4. Prep Fan Says:

Last I checked Outsider, The CP-Alhambra game had about 500 less votes than the Oak Grove-St. Francis game, but somehow they must have rallied and it came out as the game of the week. I don’t believe they have the entire game televised, but KTVU should show some highlights of that game tonight.

  5. outsider Says:

Just saw it on KTVU that the College Park vs Alhambra game is the game of the week. It is on KTVU at 7.

  6. outsider Says:

Prep Fan may be right, just highlights during the news.

  7. Prep Fan2 Says:

Why does Pittsburg always lose to Foothill? even in down years, Pitt’s such a bad start should’ve beaten Foothill. Sweeney is a great coach that’s why takes a bunch of back ups and beats the Div 1 runner up year in year out. Same story every year or so it seems. PITT GET YOUR SEASON TOGETHER BVAL ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE YOURS BUT NOT out of conference games, BERKLEY, MONTE VISTA, FOOTHILL, ETC

  8. Prep Fan2 Says:

PITT GET YOUR SEASON TOGETHER BVAL ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE YOURS BUT NOT out of conference games, BERKELEY, MONTE VISTA, FOOTHILL, ETC

  9. KillerD Says:

Drove down to see the first half of Pitt at Foothill.

Athletically, other than number One for Foothill, the Falcons had no business being on the field with Pitt.

Pitt acted as if they’ve never heard of the old Double Wing Offense before.

Pitt was lazy, lethargic, unorganized and worthless.

Congratulations to Foothill for a job well done.

Against EBAL foes, Foothill will struggle to score points often, but their Double Wing is designed to keep the ball for 36 of 48 minutes.

Once opponents figure out Foothill cannot run inside at all, then it will be harder for Foothill to move the ball wide and in the air.

Sweeney outcoached Galli from start to finish tonight in the first half.

  10. KillerD Says:

I’ve been trumpeting Kennedy-Richmond all summer. And I predicted they would beat El Cerrito tonight, and they did.

Good for the Eagles, they are officially back.

  11. outsider Says:

Prep Fan2 said: PITT GET YOUR SEASON TOGETHER BVAL ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE YOURS BUT NOT out of conference games, BERKELEY, MONTE VISTA, FOOTHILL, ETC

That is because the BVAL is not the EBAL.

  12. KillerD Says:

Follow Up on KillerD’s picks for this weekend:

Pitt vs. Foothill – wrong – Foothill trounced Pitt. Good Job Falcons!

Novato is in SERIOUS trouble this year………………

Kennedy-Richmond vs. El Cerrito – RIGHT – Way to go Eagles!

Miramonte vs. Analy – RIGHT – Mats are the team to beat in DFAL!

Northgate vs. Dublin – RIGHT – Broncos bucking in Walnut Creek1

    …………….Still to come Tomorrow:

De La Salle at Serra (prediction Serra)

    Concord at Whitney (prediction Concord)

    Piedmont at Healdsburg (prediction Healdsburg)

St. Patrick’s vs. Salesian (prediction St. Patricks)

    Cal vs. Washington (prediction Cal)

*Ferndale is DOWN the economy has racked that area badly.

  13. KillerD Says:

CASD-Fremont I predicted to do well this year and they WON their opener tonight vs. Calistoga.

  14. George Manley Says:

Alhambra stopped College Park by out scoring them 34-25….The Bulldog defense was outsmarted many times and the score could have been a lot more if the defensewould have buckled down…Alhambra never punted all night and college park punted only once….In a way neither team could stop the other although College Park was under pressure all night and their drives were time consuming while the Bulldogs struck fast….

  15. BVAL Fan Says:

WHO said that foothill would lose to Pitt? i thought people where smarter than that

  16. ManO'War Says:

Foothill executed to perfection. Rowland is the real deal. Camarena good. Foothill D was helped by injured Pitt receivers perhaps, but looks strong and both lines are very good. Credit to Sweeney and staff for putting together their talent into winning combination, even though very different obviously from last year. All positions stonger than expected. Many looks out of that offense, so may be harder to defend than you might think if the O-line can hold out so well. Got good kicker again too. :-)

  17. BVAL Fan Says:

Berekly Should be very proud they killed a Oakland School LMAO 56-0…. They need to challenge better

  18. BVAL Fan Says:

I went to the Freedom and Amador game and it had to be one of the best hard fought games this week… it was literally a back and fourth game. Both teams defenses were really good… The amador kicker missed 5 field goals… and one got blocked.. Freedom lost to a numerous of bad calls by refs.. Some players from amador were holding and grabing Freedom players and the Refs didnt see it, it was funny because one literally happened in front of the ref and all he did was stop and stared at the two players… and the penalty that decided the game was a really bad pass interference call. I thought freedom could of beat amador if their offense exacuted more… but overall a good game

  19. BVAL Fan Says:

What happend TO clayton valley? id be so embarrassed if i was their coach.. Who was at that game?

  20. Creme de la creme Says:

    64-0….

  21. Reggie Hammond Says:

Conragts to Alhambra great win for you guys.

  22. junior Says:

Sweeny certainly outcoached Galli last night but how much can Galli be held responsible for the poor effort by Pitt? The above poster was corect: almost ZERO energy from the Pitt team. Foothill gets credit for playing an inspired, disciplined game.

It will be interesting to see how Foothill’s Double Wing O will fair in the EBAL. Their O-line isnt overly physical. Foothill’s bigger challenge will be that they cant throw a pass more than 7 yd’s in the air. Rowland is a top tier talent-I wouldnt punt to him.

Pitt got a shot of energy when Watson went to QB and Mozee to WR.

  23. KillerD Says:

Whomever has been touting Mozee as a Division I qb doe not know what they are talking about

  24. MURDOC Says:

    Killer D,

Werent you riding Alameda High buddy? Mozee probably isnt a D1 QB. But he is a D1 talent fasho. Dont start that sh!t KillerD.

  25. KillerD Says:

Yes, I have picked Alameda to do well and beat Encinal. And Alameda did win last night.

Only talking about Mozee’s talent as a QB.

I did not mention anything else regarding Mozee overall talent. But sine you brought it up, we agree on his overall talent, and I also think yes, he will be a potentially very good player at the FCS level, or low level FBS.

  26. Joe Says:

BVAL FAN,I was at the Liberty Clayton Valley game, why would CV be embarrassed they played a tough game, Liberty just came up with the win so whats to be embarrassed about? Both teams had great running backs that covered alot of yards. Both defenses did their jobs that is why it was a low scoring game.If your a BVAL FAN why do you give the league so much crap! Have you EVER played football in your life or is the reason your sooo bidder is because you couldnt make the team? Just curious.

  27. renegades10 Says:

Lucas Dunne 63 yard TD run DLS leads 7-0 not even a minute into the game. Dunne had all 80 yards of running on the drive as they started from the 20. Did have a fumble on the drive but DLS recovered.

  28. renegades10 Says:

DLS converts on 4th and 4 as Houston connects with Shapiro for a 28 yard TD pass and DLS leads 14-0 with 6:15 to go in the first quarter.

  29. renegades10 Says:

Joseph Te’o runs into the endzone 21-0 DLS leads 2 minutes left in the first quarter. Same score they were up by two years ago when Serra came back to lead until Ward scored the 2pt conversion to win the game. Hopefully Lad and co. are reminding them of that and to keep it up.

  30. renegades10 Says:

Dunne has another TD after a long drive and it’s 28-0 DLS still time left in the 2nd quarter.

  31. renegades10 Says:

DLS just punted for the first time. Still 2nd quarter.

  32. renegades10 Says:

DLS a little sloppy on offense after big punt return, but gets FG. 31-0 DLS 2nd quarter.

  33. renegades10 Says:

Halftime 31-0 DLS. Serra gets ball to start 2nd half.

  34. renegades10 Says:

Dunne has 163 yards on 9 carries to go with his two TD’s.

  35. renegades10 Says:

Bart Houston on the 8 yard keeper and it’s 38-0 DLS 4:16 left in the 3rd quarter.

  36. outsider Says:

I guess that DLS is not starting off slow this season.

  37. MV Alum Says:

Does Serra have anything or is DLS just on top of them

  38. renegades10 Says:

End of the 3rd quarter 38-0 DLS. Serra looking at 4th and 7 on DLS side of the field when they start the 4th.

  39. renegades10 Says:

Serra just got shocked in the first quarter. Sounds like they are playing better since the first quarter, but also DLS has been rotating a lot of guys in there since the 2nd half started. A mix of starters and 2nd teamers it sounds like. Curious to see the MV-Serra matchup. It’s really hard to say how good they are or are not, but definitely are missing their two explosive playmakers from last year in Smith and Clark.

  40. renegades10 Says:

DLS is leaving some starters in since they have next week off to get them some extra reps. Also Pickett was held out of the first half and Cotton is not playing at all today.

  41. renegades10 Says:

Pickett carries into the endzone 45-0 DLS halfway through the fourth quarter. Backup qb Parros was in on the drive.

  42. renegades10 Says:

MV-Serra will tell us several things which include, is Serra not very good this year or is DLS just that good depending on how the Padres do against Monte Vista. Also will find out what the Mustangs have outside of the returners. MV Alum, did you go to the scrimmage last night and how did they look compared to the other teams there?

  43. renegades10 Says:

Serra just got a 70 yard TD from Erich Wilson 45-7 DLS.

  44. renegades10 Says:

45-7 DLS wins. Good start to the season.

  45. monarch86 Says:

Pitt looked just as confused as they did during jamboree, told you they had questions to answer, line wasn’t impressive at all against a not so great Foothill front

  46. MV Alum Says:

I did the O looked in mid season form D looked ok new linbackers need to be more aggresive filling the gaps no one could run outside them but the middle needs work Srv looks good trying to pass more lots of screens and underneath stuff Washington has some players and should do well in there league it was tuff for them against MV and SRV

  47. c.sparks Says:

word is alameda should of lost the newark game. Newark i hear is terrible but better then alameda, the score doesnt reflect the overall game. i heard if they had anytype of kicker them game would of been newarks.. killerD you sound like your making disperartion calls.. calling out an alameda victory over encinal..BUT YOU have beeen right so far… so props to you

  48. island02 Says:

c.sparks, the story is always different if you get it second hand. If Newark is bad(terrible) ;but, better than Alameda they should have won the game even with a weak kicker. Our defense kept them out of the endzone and forced them into FG attempts. They’re RB was a beast and I would have kept feeding him the rock, Swift blew that, and Cunningham scored both our td’s on the ground. Believe what you want C.Sparks but Alameda is 1-0, better start than last season..

  49. Lumberjack Says:

    Concord up 22-6 2nd qtr

  50. bigeasy Says:

MV Alum Washington was not at the scrimmage yesterday. It was MV SRV Hayward and Rancho something out of sacramento I do agree that the linebackers need to step it up. The lines looked a little sloppy as well but with their experience I expect them to pull it together by next friday night.

  51. DVAL Says:

How did Mt. do today against Redwood?

  52. BVAL Fan Says:

    @ Joe

So you would be fine to lose to a team that hasnt won a leauge game in five years? Yea doesnt make sense aahahha if you where a coach you would go 0-10 with that attitude STRAIGHT UP. I would be so embarrased and be angry… I dont care if the teams gotten better… but common sense, cant just lose to a team like that

  53. MV Alum Says:

Bigeasy I know sorry I was thinking about the Cal game had Washington on my mind Hayward had some athletes but still had a tuff time against EBAL teams…

  54. BVAL Fan Says:

is there any websites and that have highlights to games?

  55. ManDown Says:

Island02, Congrats ona hard fought victory. How will you guys prepare for strong team in ODowd?

  56. Joe Says:

BVAL FAN – How do you know I am not a coach? I know this might be a dumb question asking you but does that mean that every team that the Raiders are beating this year should be embarrassed, Dont think so. Every team will change over time just some take longer. Liberty has talent on their team now the coaches need to call the right plays and put the right people. Liberty has a total new coaching staff that has more experience than most highschool coaches. Im not saying that Liberty is going to take the league, what I am saying is regardless of what team it is they are working their asses off everyday in this heat to better themselves and they win their first game and they get a moron like you to disrespect them.I still cant figure out why you call yourself BVAL FAN when you disrespect teams in the BVAL????? Your names not Tony is it? Oh and by the way you havent seen an attitude bro.

  57. Lumberjack Says:

    Whitney over Concord 42-40.

  58. Matt Rempel Says:

Covered the Newark/Alameda game. Of all the times have seen Newark, never seen so many mistakes. Between interceptions, stupid penalties, and really bad kicking Newark gave that one away. At least Alameda took advantage so I give them credit. I said Newark should have gone for it on 4th and goal at the 1 with 49 secs left, instead 18 yard field goal looked horrible. Reams is good runner for Newark. Cunningham solid runner for Hornets, but line is questionable.

  59. BVAL Fan Says:

I probably know way more about Football than you… so idk why your questioning me. So your going to tell your team that your not going to do anything that the fact that you lost to a team that hasnt been winning for the last couple of years? and im not disrespecting the BVAL. I call it how i see it. and thats how every team feels about Liberty even out of league teams… so you need to look at that more deeply and closely into that… im not going to lie they do have some talent but its not going to be enough for league if they play teams like Mcnair Livermore Fremont… The league is to tough all around. and once again it will show that it becomes a factor

  60. donut Says:

MV fan thanks for the heads up on that scrimmage. good luck to you guys against serra, we need it against mitty it seems.. im not hatin just think a lot of predictions for the ebal, Cal SHOULD beat washington, MV SHOULD beat serra, DLS SHOULD beat gorman, etc. surprised me foothill beat PITT and amador beat freedom. that tells a lot b/c amadors non league indicates whether they may lose to granada or foothill again this season.

but who knows how good each team will be in ncs at the end of the season. best

  61. MV Alum Says:

Good luck Donut I agree MV should beat Serra and congrats to CAL nice win over Washington tonite. From what I saw out of SRV at the scrimmage they are ready to play, Defense looked good there were a couple of interfernce calls that they would have gotten in a real game but they were aggressive. On offense trying some shotgun and other formations Kline can throw the underneath stuff and moved around pretty well it is going to be a good game. Actually it is going to be a good season for all. Kudos to Foothill for a nice win over Pitt I think the EBAL is going to be unbelievably competative this year…

  62. Joe Says:

BVAL Fan, Idoubt you know more about football, I have been coaching probably longer than you have been alive and not just in this area but for some very respectful teams in other areas. I do agree with you(imagine that)about their easier than most preseason, so we will have to see how they weather the storm in league.I am not saying Liberty will win league, it just p’s me off when a team busts their asses all year long and finally wins their first pre season game(7 years since they beat CV)to be disrespected thats all im saying. The sad thing was that after the game the team was celebrating on their way to the bus and a group of teenagers who identified themselves as “white power” surrounded some of the darker skinned players and called them aweful names. The whole team came back to help their team mates out and after a few scuffles they ran the group off. now thats brotherhood.

  63. renegades10 Says:

Amador’s victory surprised me as I originally thought they would finish seventh in the EBAL this year. But with how strong the teams in the league seem this year that may still happen. This may be the toughest the league has been in quite some time which is saying something. Don’t know that MV should beat Serra, hard to tell after one game against DLS. But MV could beat Serra, talk about a change in opposing styles going from DLS’ ground attack to MV’s aerial attack.

  64. BVAL Fan Says:

Renegades, Amador was looking alright.. they had trouble moving the ball sometimes and their passing game was alright as well… Seemed like Freedom was not at full strength in their O-line. Which could of been a factor.. but im excited to see granada and amador play..

  65. WARRIOR JACKET Says:

BVAL Fan, Berkeley plays Freedom next week at Berkeley. I’m picking Berkeley to win, but of course I am a Berkeley supporter. It should be a good game.

  66. WARRIOR JACKET Says:

Wow! Kennedy beat El Cerrito. I had a feeling that was going to happen. Bad loss for the ACCAL, but I was happy for the Kennedy program.

  67. ManDown Says:

The Kennedy win over El Cerrito looks bad for the ACCAL.

  68. PERKIN Says:

EC sucks. JFK didn’t even complet a pass or maybe one out of 3. If they can’t stop the run then I don’t know how they think they’re gonna stop EHS.

  69. old former meddling coach Says:

Well One this about Kennedy-Richmond I can say. It was never about lack of talent. It was about a lack of discipline,Motivation and desire. This is not a reflection on any of the past coaches of which i was one. But No coach can want it more than the players and if the kids don’t want it enough to do what they need to do,What can any coach do?

  70. Bval Fan Says:

Warrior Jacket, Yes it will be a good game… How does Berkely look this year with a new coach?

  71. Logan Fan Says:

I’m proud of our young Logan team. Despite being so young we’re able to beat the self proclaimed 2010 champions from the Hayward league & their arrogant big mouth of a coach. Where are all the Don Juans now????

    DON PRIDE! LOL!

  72. YoMama Says:

I saw yo mama walking the san mateo bridge yesterday, took an awful beating from De La.

  73. Big Joe Says:

Surprise on St. Pat;s win over Salesian, they were up by 2 tds late in the game. -looks like the Veer is going to tear up some opponents.

  74. KillerD Says:

The picks of mine turned out very good overall:

St. Pats – won and they are my pick to win BSAL

Healdsburg – won and will be a long year for Piedmont

Cal High – won and they might finish 2nd in EBAL

Logan – won on the heels of upcoming stud ball carrier

Serra – Got that call wrong by a lot. DLS will win the EBAL again and advance to state title game – again

Kennedy – won and they will win at least 5 games

Alameda – won and they will beat Bishop Odowd

Encinal did not play, but they will crush El Cerrito

It will be Alhambra and Las Lomas for DFAL title

Dublin will finish last in that league again

Richmond is much improved and will win 4-5 games

  75. Yamon Says:

Anyone have a recap or analysis they could post about the Cal Washington game?

  76. WARRIOR JACKET Says:

@BVAL, the passing game did not look bad. The QB was 4-5 for 110 yards. But to be honest it was hard to say because Oakland High just was not in the same class physically. Although I applaud those kids (Oakland High) for playing hard to the end.

Sims is a good play caller and he spreads the ball around. Many of the starters did not play in the second half and Berkeley stop passing in good sportsmanship. I do however see a vast improvement in the overall play and confidence of the QB, Logan Murdoc.

  77. Big Joe Says:

Killer D, if you’re right., St. Pat’s could return to the glory days of 06 and 07 when they won 21 straight and copped back to back bsal titles. Those teams had triple threats on offense though, and big lines compared to the last several years. Lots of those kids went on to play college. Could be a strech, but I bet they go deep in the playoffs. For a small school they have put up some impressive numbers in the past. They rushed for 301 yds. Sat.

  78. BVAL Fan Says:

Warrior Jacket, Did they change their whole offense? or no? and Does their lineman look really big?

  79. ManDown Says:

Big Joe, do you think that St.Patricks will get Encinal this year? I think the chances are good but Encinal will be tough as we all know.

  80. c.sparks Says:

honestly no mandown. i watch alot of Accal and bsal games and i think encinal matches up so good againest saint pats.. st pats cant do the veer againest encinal speed…. REMEBER encinal RUns the best veer.. and the best part about there offense in that leaugue they can PASS… i would watch out for moreua.. but i still got them finishing 4th…

  81. BVAL Fan Says:

i like ST patricks offfense looks very clean

  82. Prep Fan Says:

Washington forced Cal to punt on the very first series, and then marched down the field and scored to go ahead 7-0. That was as good as it was going to get for the Huskies. Cal then put in Alvarez, who had sat out the first series and didn’t punt again until late in the 4th quarter when they were ahead 35-13 and the subs were in. Carter broke about 3 tackles to score on a long gainer with less than a minute to go in the half to pull within 14-13 and give Huskies fan hope, and Cal promptly went down and scored another TD before halftime. Cal had a balanced attack with Alvarez leading the ground game, and their air attack was just as deadly with Reil hitting Sarmenta on a couple of nice TDs. Cal had about 3 TDs called back due to penalties. Washington relied on short passes and handoffs to Carter and Cesch, and Cal got wise to it after the first series. Singh was unable to throw the ball deep and was picked off 3 times.

  83. ManDown Says:

    C.Sparks,
Who do you have Moreau finishing behind? What is your BSAL breakdown?

  84. huskies Says:

wow about the most biased assessment from that game ever prep fan…yes cal had 2 td’s called back due to penalties but the one was a clear holding call that resulted in the td..the other was a chop block..regardless cal scored on each of those possessions anyways so really didnt change the outcome…washington also had a few big plays called back by penalties as well…and if you remember cal scored on one of those penalty filled possesions on a very questionable pass interference call on 3 and 25, which even if caught wouldn’t have resulted in a 1st down…

cal played much more sound on both sides of the ball than washington…they were clearly the better team saturday night…washington’s offense was hot and cold all night…when the qb was on cal struggled to stop them but too much of the night he was off and resulted in easy interceptions for the safeties on high throws and tipped passes over the middle…cal’s offense played very well and was very balanced did a great job of mixing run and pass and that caused washington some problems…cal’s defense played very soft sitting in a two deep all game and kept washington’s big play guys under control for much of the game…washington’s inability to get a consistent running game going hurt them in the end..it was a solid game plan on cal highs end and worked for much of the game…

i think both teams are fairly evenly matched as the two teams were last year as well…difference was washington didn’t make the mistakes they made saturday night last year and resulted in two wins for the huskies…and cal made the mistakes last year that they didn’t this year…would be interesting to see them play again, but obviously not happening again until next year.

on side note the cal wr #4 is a stud with as good of ball skills when the ball is high in the air as i have seen in awhile.

i think washington will be ok but do have 3 very tough games still to go in non league with deer valley, amador, and srv they will have to play better and eliminate the mistakes if they are going to match last years success..the potential is there though.

cal should contend for that glorified 2nd place spot in the ebal this year..i think mv, srv, and cal will battle it out for those spots…amador seems a little down this year and i love sweeney’s ability and a great first win i dont think the double wing will be able to get them through league once teams are able to gameplan for it.

  85. Logan Fan Says:

Don Juan, Coach JB, just wait,

I like that all the trash talking from the Arroyo program has stopped? Let’s hope you learned your lesson about keeping your mouth shut & just playing ball. All of your predictions about “smacking us” & “outcoaching us” are just locker room post up material.

Coach Barnes, I read your earlier posts. You’re teaching these kids to come on blogs & talk trash. Is this what you mean by OAL football? Talkin? What’s next? stealing players, recruiting, illegal transfers? I guess when we play you next year we should expect to see the best OAL players from this year on your roster.

    LOGAN PRIDE!!!

  86. Big Joe Says:

Encinal’s test will be against Serra- that will be a barometer on how good they’ll be. Be a good indication on their speed also.

  87. YoMama Says:

Will Yo Mama be walkin’ the High St.bridge, the Park St. bridge or the Tube?

  88. PERKIN Says:

Did Foothill hide that they ran DoubleWing or did Pitt know it was coming?

  89. Chs1012 Says:

Huskies @ 84. Fair assessment. Sarmenta – #4 – is as talented as Rowland/Turner/Mcgovern at Foothill/MV. This is his third year on Varsity. ALL have excellent hands and vertical- WR pre-reqs. The difference previously was Mannion/Nottingham were throwing 40-50 balls a game each in spread last year and thus, their receivers got more props. He had an impossible layout catch vs. Amador last year and if you watched the Del Oro game on Comcast, another over the shoulder- very difficult one inside the 10 to keep Cal in that game … either would have been a top 10 EBAL catch last year. Being a center fielder as well, one could see those skills with ease. Saturday night he looked no different. Cal being a ground and pound offense for the most part in the past based on tailback strength/depth, put less emphasis on the passing game, even though the QB’s were capable. With a healthy mix of both attacks this year, opponent coaches will certainly pay attention to Sarmenta when they review film.
Ross and Lousi as seniors last year were VERY good and frankly, got the job done…twice. Different story this year although Carter is very fast/elusive and will grab the attention of many as the season progresses.

  90. outsider Says:

I was impressed with Washington’s play on Saturday night but I am not sure that Washington is the same team it was last year. Maybe faster, but smaller. Their little running backs are really good but they rely on them alot, especially Carter, who is strong for being able to keep up the pace. He made one great break through a gang of Cal tacklers for a TD run but it was part Cal’s mistakes in not wrapping up and part Carter’s elusiveness. Cal is not too much different from last year, except for not having a power running back, but is now using all its weapons, which it did not do last year consistently. I think that Cal would have worn Washington down in any case, which is what was happening by the second half. Cal’s line contains many returning seniors who are big and strong and they also have a good complement of receivers and running backs. Maybe not the fastest or flashiest, but capable.

    Logan FAN
ARROYO players really fought hard all the way to the final minute. I was really impressed with the DB play of #28. The Arroyo team had alot more talent then Logan and i think they won the turn-over battle 4to1
Logan was fortunate to play an inexperienced coach if Perenon had that job watch out h.a.a.l
I guess the O.A.L. style works in the OAL
Arroyo goes 4-6 maybe 5-5 with all that talent!

  92. monarch86 Says:

Cal and Washintgon both had some sloppy opening game mistakes, there was no “question” about the pass interference call the kid mugged him all the way down the sideline and he also did a tremendous amount of trash talking from the opening whistle. The Cal line (especially the left side) was stonger and wore down Washington’s front by the 2nd Qtr.

  93. Huskies Says:

Was referring to interference call on drag across the field that resulted in first down on 3rd and 25…not sure which game watching but only pass interference on sideline was caught for a td anyways so irrelevant..

  94. Logan Fan Says:

2fingers, you’re right about two things. Arroyo’s athletes were better than ours but that was due to our inexperience. Also, Arroyo’s coach got outcoached. Their spread offense had only a few plays & became predictable. After the 1st two TD drives, Arroyo did nothing but botch punt after punt. #28 was the best player on the field. But his coach needs to do more to get him the ball. Perenon would have been a better choice. Did he even interview for the job? If he did then it’s Arroyo’s admin’s fault for passing up on a Perenon.

  95. 2FINGERSpeace Says:

    Logan fan
I like the way you guys disguised that cover 3 look really caught Arroyo off guard. I understand you guys have some of the best backers in the league. Arroyo back wont last behind that line if they keep getting hit like that.Do you have any idea how many punts they had.

  96. 2FINGERSpeace Says:

    Logan fan
do you know how many punt arroyo had
those guys were determine to run the ball on the 7 and 8 man fronts
    your backers played well

  97. Prep Fan Says:

I’m sorry you didn’t like my observations Huskies. Everything I mentioned was truthful, and I wasn’t trying to be biased. Washington’s 2 best moments were the opening series where they stopped Cal and then marched downfield and scored, and the Carter TD dash in the final minute prior to halftime. I guess you could add when they forced the Alvarez fumble with the hit from behind on the Washington 10 in the 3rd quarter, as that was a big play. If Singh did better job throwing downfield, they might have been able to stay with Cal, but the 3 INTs killed them. Carter is a special player and hurt Cal bad last season, twice. He’ll have his days this season as well, but other than the 1st series & that play prior to the half, Cal contained him pretty well.

  98. CHALKtalk Says:

    Logan fan 2fingers
    calm down
Logans coaching didnt do anything but milk the clock.
Which was a good call with such a young team and an early lead. Im sure ur weaknessES will be exploited and believe me u have many.THEY SAY GOD DONT LIKE UGLY AND THAT WAS UGLY

  99. huskies Says:

see now post 97 that was a fair assessment..in your first you acted like washington never even moved the ball…320 yards…and cal never was stopped except for penalties otherwise would have scored like 50 points…when in fact scored on those drives anyways…that was all i was trying to say…

cal no doubt got the better of washington and did a good job of containing him no doubt

  100. Logan Fan Says:

Our defense shut down Arroyo after the 1st quarter. Zuber either made the right adjustments or Arroyo’s 3 play spread offense ran out of creativity. Either way they they did nothing. Arroyo had at least 4 or 5 possesions in the 2nd half and we all saw how that ended up. Coach Barnes had no answer for our defense. Maybe that 3 play playbook works in the OAL but not in the NCS.

Also need to get #28 the ball, why are they holding him back? He was the only one we were really concerned about.

  101. CHALKtalk Says:

    logan FAN
looks like they had about 6 viable weapons to me
that vanilla defense you played can only stop the run

  102. JB"DON" Says:

lol will see next week i will add 3 more plays!!!

    Don Pride !!!

  103. ManDown Says:

You Logan fans should feel weak! Talking all this crap right now but you forget Arroyo isnt that good. Most people have them finishing 4 or 5th in the weak HAAL. Letting Arroyo almost beat isnt anything to be happy about. Arroyo is so far away right now and you guys just proved how weak you will be this year by even letting that game be close. I see a long year for Logan this year.

  104. CHALKtalk Says:

man down u think ARROYO is weak LOL
they have some of the best players in the NCS
I wouldnt want 2 face them after the kids figure out the flow of the game. Logan on the other hand ill play them week in and weak out LOL

  105. ManDown Says:

Arroyo may have some good players but as a TEAM they’re not to impressive.

  106. CHALKtalk Says:

    MAN DOWN
really what did u see that wasnt impressive
plz tell me. Whr u there

  107. ManDown Says:

Against a weak ass Logan team they may look good but put them against any good team I bet that team looks like there are still far away from what they can become. Come on man, honestly you think that Arroyo is that good?

  108. ManDown Says:

    Alameda vs ODowd predictions?

  109. Reggie Hammond Says:

    Alameda: 20
    BOD: 48

  110. ManDown Says:

Why do you think the score will be that lopped sided? Alameda tied BOD last year and this year I knwo they will be playing with much more confidence than they did last year. Alameda has had success against BOD but not in 08.

  111. PERKIN Says:

Off the subject but does anyone know if Pitt knew that Foothill was going to run the DoubleWing? Do any foothill fans know if they showed it in their scrimmage? Galli got Coach of the Year last year for losing a lot of games early then getting hot late. Having his team get embarassed cause they weren’t coached up isn’t Coach of the Year stuff.

Anybody at the game did it look like Pitt had a clue of how to stop it? They could have been coached up on it but just not seen it live & had a tough time with it. That showed in the State game with MC & Bellarmine. I also heard they had a Contact Camp agaisnt Serra who runs the DW so they had to have soem scheme or idea against it.

  112. ManDown Says:

I agree with you Perkin. I was high on Pitt this year until they layed an egg against a team they should beat on the regular with the athletes they produce year in and year out. Pitt seems to always let you down in games they should win.

  113. MVAL champs Says:

This is the worst Logan team in 10 years, but they won the game. Arroyo had better athletes but their play-calling cost them the game. Arroyo is not a bad team but it looks like they need an offensive coordinator.

  114. MVAL champs Says:

Honestly, I think American is better than Logan.

  115. BVAL Fan Says:

Can someone describe foothill’s offense i want to know more about it

  116. BVAL Fan Says:

Its going to be intresting to see pitt in league.. they struggled alot to Foothill… so this should be very good to watch and see what kind of message they will send to Deer Valley and the rest of the league.

  117. renegades10 Says:

BVAL fan I will admit that I don’t fully understand the double wing offense and the responsibilities of the guards and tackles, but it is meant to be a grind it out, ball control offense. It generally uses two tight ends as extra linemen. The two rb’s are known as wings and line up behind and a little outside of the TE’s. Then the qb under center and a fullback behind him. It uses a pretty small assortment of plays and relies on physicality and misdirection. Bellarmine of San Jose runs it and runs it very well. Youtube them and watch if you want.

From what I have heard about Foothill this year they returned every single linemen and they have a lot of confidence in them. They also have a qb that is like 5′ 7″ who doesn’t have the arm strength to get the ball downfield to their threat Cameron Rowland like Mannion could. So instead Rowland is now a wing and he gets more touches this way. Shows Sweeney’s genius at its finest. that being said I don’t believe anyone outside of the team knew what they were running it because all the talk had been how the new qb would step up in the passing offense. I’m guessing Pitt was watching a lot of film from last year’s team. Cat’s out of the bag now. I don’t know how it will work in EBAL play. It could pay dividends as it could keep the ball out of the explosive offenses hands such as MV, DLS, and probably SRV this year. In another sense, though is that now everyone knows what they are running and will gear up to stop it. Not sure if they have the guys who can do it all game. We’ll see.

  118. BVAL Fan Says:

Is it in realtaion to the ygnacio valley offense a few years ago? and i agree with you on the fact that the cats out of the bag… and ebal teams wont be fooled by it… but i have a feeling they might change or switch back maybe to their regular offense…. i dont know… But it was funny how people said that Foothill was going to lose to pitt… because they had more athletes then Foothill…

  119. Coach Tenorio Says:

Genius on Sweeney’s part. Really shows great coaching when he had to break the mold of what he was or has been to adjust to his talent & strengths. I’m sure he has things ready for when the DW struggles. He’s shown that his Passing schemes are as good as the MV’s & SRV’s. Proably won’t be the traditional DW that just runs one formation the whole game & live or dies by it. Brilliant can’t wait to hear wat happens with them the next couple of games.

  120. 2FINGERSpeace Says:

    MVAL champs
The Oal coaches have been calling the same plays for years. All the way back to BEAM at skyline. Their players have been carrying them for years, because
they always have the best athletes.Poor arroyo quarterback wont last going 2 ways, oh yeah they do that in the oal
3 more plays how about 3MO o.c. LMAO

  121. KillerD Says:

My favorite part of high school football and even various parts of collegiate football are the totally diverse and varied offensive and defensive systems.

Double Wing, Wing T, and every type of system imagineable make it the best game on earth to watch.

Comparing strategies, the NFL is a boring endeavor for the most part schematically, while high school football and many college games are unpredictable when it comes to X and O because they have to be creative.

Congrats to Sweeney and the Falcons, it will be interesting to see how their Double Wing fares over 10 games.

By the way, Pitt won’t come close to winning their league. Deer Valley will run away with it.

  122. ManDown Says:

You’re right about that KillerD. NFL can get boring at times but High school and college football always give you an interesting look at they many differnt formations and plays this game has to offer on the offensive side. Defensivly everyone is differnt and runs many differnt looks like 4-4,3-4,4-3,6-1, 3-3-5,4-2-5 and so on. Its a beautiful thing to watch.

  123. norcalfball Says:

i like dv to win too..but have to be headsup after that impressive heritage win. they are both run first teams..dv has a better defense but i have never seen there offense light up the score board like heritage did vs novato…that will be a fun game to see what gives as both slug it out…

can never count out pitt though…

  124. MoellerMan Says:

The major difference I saw between Pitt and Foothill was execution on offense. A great example was the shuffle pass across the middle of the line. Foothill ran it very effectively in the second half. On the next series, Pitt ran the exact same play but it was ragged and lost a couple yards, like they had not practiced it much.

  125. JB"DON" Says:

How good is Logan, good enough to beat you, maybe if you had 4-8 play you could have won, doubt it. WE all have JV and pop players. AND your players are much better then logans. Hopefully we will see you in the play-offs, doubt it. BY THE WAY COACHING IS MY LIFE

  132. Arroyo Alum Says:

JB Don, you’re a buffoon. You make remarks such as the O.A.L. will grow in the HAAL as long as I’m here? Insulting other programs & coaching staffs on a blog. Where did they hire you from? You are the worst coach in the bay area. Bring back the old coach at least he wasn’t a sheisty, low down, piece of $@#E.

  133. JB"DON" Says:

lol Arroyo Alum & 2FINGERSpeace I will not go there come to Arroyo and express your self !!! The Oal has some good coaches and as i said i will always be willing to give a good coaches a chance. Sorry you feel that way and can hide behind a computer !!

So now cunningham is back? I see two differnt stories on here from father and son. Father says he doenst have the desire to play and want to focus on academics and son says his grades were bad. Whats going on over there at Alameda?

  135. MURDOC Says:

    mandown,
when is ahs vs bod and where?

  136. billjohnson Says:

so does cunningham play or sit. word has it he missed 2 days of practice?

  137. ManDown Says:

Saturday 1:30pm at BOD. If he sits I don’t see them beating BOD inless BOD is that weak.

  138. E_CULB Says:

    JB,

Stay focused! You got a program to build. Remember your 3-6 plays are like Denzel said in Remeber the Titans “It’s like novacane you give it time it will work.”

  139. Triton8 Says:

It cracks me up to read people saying Alameda will beat Encinal this year. The difference in speed is far too huge to overlook. They can’t practice against speed like that? I watched Encinal play last night and they play at such a fast pace its hard to imagine a school in their league keeping pace. Watching the offense from the stands is tough enough…you see a huge lineman run up a hole and all of a sudden a RB pops out in the open 5 yds ahead of everyone else….and no one can catch him. Everything is just so darn fast. They are very small on defense though. It may be tough at Serra, but everyone else on their schedule will have too much trouble trying to keep up with the speed and execution to capitalize on the lack of size. I think its Jets -21 for now.
