T.J. Taylor commits to UC Santa Barbara

Oakland High point guard T.J. Taylor, who originally committed to Santa Clara before his sophomore season, is now heading to UC Santa Barbara. Taylor decommited from Santa Clara during his junior season in a move designed to open up his options again.┬áThe 5-9, 155-pound Taylor┬áconfirmed late Tuesday that he’s now given his verbal committment to the Gauchos. Taylor was the Oakland Athletic League MVP and a second-team All-East Bay pick last season after averaging 18.6 points per game.

Water polo notes and rankings – Sept. 21

The season is about four weeks old now, and so far there haven’t been too many surprises. The perennial top teams are still dominating in nonleague games and the big tournaments, but some of the smaller tournaments have given other teams time to shine.

Holiday Classic slated for Dec. 26

I just spoke to Matt Williams, the organizer for the Holiday Classic All-Star Football game that will pit the stars of the East Bay against the Sacramento area stars. You may remember last year’s game ended in a 13-13 tie after two overtimes and included a 57-yard field goal by Foothill’s James Langford. Well, the game is back on for this year and scheduled for the same date of December 26, which falls on a Sunday this year.
