Ho Mama- My house is fine. What is hazz? Some sort of new haircut? If you need a barber, I can recommend some good ones in Martinez. And they don't do just haircuts, they also have other services. For example, if your feet hurt, they'll wrap them in tape for you for exactly 5 cents (if you also get a haircut). For some reason, everyone thinks that this service costs 50 cents, but 50 cents is not true.

Retirement? So, it wasn't BC FOREVER, just temporary BC? :)

Maybe instead of receiver, the questions should reference who is the best all purpose yardage athlete? There are some RBs who also return kicks (Atkinson).

BDF- "I don’t think that that is cooking the books at all. To me, those figures are just a different way to clearly point out that Grant Jones is a great player" and also a valid means by which to show that Davis is an excellent PLAYER.

But the question was asked about receivers specifically, that's where our opinions about what the stats show diverge.

I understand your points, they have been clearly expressed with forethought and respect. Thank you for that. It is a pleasure to watch kids excel, we are lucky to have so many right here at home to enjoy.

I'll look for the guy wearing Alhambra gear from head to toe next time I'm at a game, then I'll know it's you and we'll have that beer.. ;)

BCF says- "So should the YV receiver that scored two defensive touchdowns against Alhambra while playing linebacker be given credit for those TD’s as a receiver because he lines up there on offense? No."

I say yes. I very definitely think that he should, not solely as a receiver, but in addition to what he did as a receiver. I'm fine with that, it's just another way to quantify how well a player does for his team.

Grant Jones was the receiver that you mentioned, and he had a phenomenal game that night and almost beat us by all by himself. He scored all of YV's touchdowns. He recovered a bad Alhambra snap that went over the punter's head and ran it in 35 yards for a touchdown, he took the ball right out of our QB's hands in the backfield and ran it in 50 yards for a TD, and also caught a 50 yard TD pass. Wow, very impressive!

Let me analyze Jones' game in the same way as I analyzed Davis' first 5 games.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that in that same Alhambra game Grant also had 4 additional receptions for 60 yards, and a punt return for 25 yards and a kickoff return for 35 yards.

That would give him nine touches for the game (1 take away for TD, 1 fumble recovery for TD, 5 receptions 1 TD, 1 kickoff return and 1 punt return) That would be 9 touches and 255 total yards gained, a 28.33 yards per touch figure. His touchdown per touch percentage would be 33% (3 TD's/9 touches = 33%).

I don't think that that is cooking the books at all. To me, those figures are just a different way to clearly point out that Grant Jones is a great player (D1 caliber, in my opinion).

Seeing these statistics of Jones', I can only say "Well done, Grant Jones, well done".

And Jones' stats in that game also prove that Davis is no slouch either, as he has similar figures not for just one single game, but for five games. Jones' one game estimate- 28.33 yards per touch and 33% TD per touch percentage vs Davis' actual for five games- 27.83 and 29%.

If we happen to meet up at a game someday, BCF, you can tell me how good your guys are, and I'll tell you how good my guys are, and then after the game we can have a beer together. Deal?

So should the YV receiver that scored two defensive touchdowns against Alhambra while playing linebacker be given credit for those TD's as a receiver because he lines up there on offense? No.

That seems to be what you're saying when you give credit to Davis as a receiver for punt and kickoff returns. Again, it is clear that Davis is a talented athlete, I'm not questioning that, but for you to state that he averages 28 yards per touch is misleading, likely true, but purposely misleading. Often, kickoff and punt returns are for at least that distance in high school, and with Davis's speed I'm sure he gets more than 28 per return often. Adding that to his yards per catch as a true receiver that caught a ball skews your whole argument in your favor, but you know that already, that's why you slipped in "per touch" rather than "per catch", which is only one measure of a receiver.

Davis could very well be a top tier receiver, but your effort to "cook the books" to try to prove it is what is annoying.

If the FG kicker is also the RB, is it fair to say that the RB is the leading scorer on the team if he has never been in the end zone? I don't think so, the FG kicker is the leading scorer, no matter if it is the same kid. I would GUESS that Davis's stats without the punt and kickoff returns don't look nearly as impressive, which is why you didn't state those.

There is nothing wrong with saying nice things about players, I wish that would happen more often on this board. I have not said anything negative about a player, nor will I.

To Bullsomething Forever #97,

What's wrong with being a homer for your team? We're all homers, including you.

The YV situation with Nesheim was unfortunate, and I was only defending Nesheim agains critisizm on the blog. At that time, I had heard that he would probably stay at YV, but that he might go to Deer Valley. I had absolutely no idea that he would end up at Alhambra.

YV played a very good game against us, their new quarterback has a lot of potential and I hope that they do well this year.

What's wrong with saying something nice about your players? We all do it, and I enjoy reading and learning about the other players on the other teams.

In case you hadn't noticed, punt returners are almost always receivers, and kick off returners are often receivers. I posted Davis' total stats, those stats are not my opinion, they are what he has actually done. If you have better stats for "MANY other players above Davis", please post them so we all could learn about those other players.

That tingly feeling up your leg last night was the hot coffee you spilled, you need to switch to decaf. Try to relax, BCF, high school football is supposed to be fun. If you don't like my posts, then don't read them.
