The North Coast Section’s seeding meeting is three weeks away, so it’s definitely a good time to take a look at the playoff situation. As usual, the playoff brackets will be 12 teams. This will be a look at just the East Bay teams.
Division I
Locks: Amador Valley, California, Foothill, Granada, Heritage, Irvington, San Ramon Valley.
Five of the seven locks are East Bay Athletic League teams. That’s no surprise. All of the above teams have records well over .500 and are at or near the top in their respective league.
Should get in: Castro Valley, Deer Valley.
Castro Valley should finish third in the Hayward Area Athletic League, which would keep them well over .500 in league and overall. I feel like Deer Valley is still the favorite in the Bay Valley Athletic League, when it’s all said and done, and winning the league, or even finishing second, with their strength of schedule, should be enough.
On the bubble: Antioch, Berkeley, Logan, Liberty, Livermore, Mission San Jose, Newark Memorial, San Leandro.
Of these teams, it will likely be three that get in and I will say it will be Berkeley, San Leandro and one of the Mission Valley Athletic League teams.
Division II
Locks: Bishop O’Dowd, Carondelet, Washington.
Should get in: Alameda, Las Lomas, Northgate.
On the bubble: American, Clayton Valley, Dougherty Valley, Pinole Valley.
Division III
Locks: Albany, Campolindo, Miramonte, Moreau Catholic.
On the bubble: Acalanes.
Division IV
Locks: Berean Christian, Salesian, St. Patrick-St. Vincent.
On the bubble: Piedmont.
Division V
A lot of Division V teams don’t report scores, but some local teams who look to have a chance to get in are: Athenian, College Prep, Head-Royce, Valley Christian, Bentley, St. Joseph-Notre Dame.
Rankings
Granada jumps a spot, moving up to No. 4 after a big week which included a win over Amador Valley, a team the Matadors have struggled with over the last few years. California jumps back up into the top five, moving up three spots after a couple of EBAL wins. Irvington moves a spot ahead of Carondelet, because I feel that the Vikings have been playing well and deserve a bump. It’s not a knock on Carondelet, who went 1-1 in the tough EBAL this week.
Deer Valley falls out after a loss to Liberty, and will likely have to wait until its next match with Heritage to move back into the rankings.

Someone told me they think it’s a 16-team bracket this year. They are probably right, but the only thing I found on the NCS website mentioned 12-team brackets. I’ll update that when I know for sure.
