    FYI – Northgate is 6-0. Not 5-0-1

  2. Ben Enos Says:

Thanks. I always get a record wrong. I fixed it.

  3. Coach Says:

    SRV beat Foothill :)

  4. renegades10 Says:

I think this probably about the best poll all season, and given the way teams are beating each other and losing to each other, I don’t know if you can really nitpick right now. Maybe Mack and Heritage ahead of MV, but don’t know.

Games to watch for this week:

    ACCAL: Hercules@Alameda

Alameda comes into the game against upstart Hercules needing to win out to have a legit chance at qualifying for playoffs. Hercules needs just one more win to guarantee a .500 record and be eligible for playoffs. With a game against De Anza remaining a win here would more than likely give Hercules a 6-4 record as they still have to play PV and B-High. I see this game being close, but in the end Alameda pulls out the slugfest 21-14.

    BSAL: SPSV@Moreau Catholic

SPSV comes into this game reeling from the big loss it suffered at the hands of Encinal while Moreau comes in off a blowout win over Albany. I feel SPSV is the more talented team, but one has to wonder how they are taking the drubbing they received from the Jets. I think this will be an offensive shootout, but in the end SPSV has the horses to get the job done 42-35.

    BVAL: Pitt@Heritage & DV@Freedom

Pitt put together its best game of the season by far when it beat down DV. It looks like Galli has found the right combo for his offense with junior Malik Watson as the qb with Mozee and returned playmaker Terrance Polk at WR. Still many including myself felt DV was overrated, btu it was an impressive win nonetheless, especially on the road. But the Pirates meanwhile, need to still win the title to put themselves in the best position to qualify for playoffs. Heritage on the other hand is coming off a win, but one in which they did not look as impressive as they had been. Maybe still feeling the effects of the close loss to Concord two weeks ago, or maybe a little rust after having a week off. But they won and in the end that is all that matters. With Pitt beating DV this is Heritage’s title to lose for the moment. They get Pitt at home, but I think that Pitt will continue to improve and take out Heritage in a high scoring affair 35-28. The loss of McDonald will show in this game.

Meanwhile over in Oakley, the Freedom Falcons take on DV. They are coming off a closer than expected win over Antioch while DV is coming off a blowout loss. Both teams need a win here to stay in the title hunt. I have felt DV was overrated for most of the season, and the slide will continue in this game. Freedom wins a low scoring 21-7 game.

    DFAL: Campo@Miramonte

Being a former resident of Moraga, I know what this game means to both schools. A few weeks ago when Campo lost Ahr and then lost to Dougherty Valley it looked like the season was not going to end pretty. Meanwhile, the Mats looked like they would roll on through the league. But with the upsets that have taken place over the last two weeks in the DFAL, Campo finds itself a game out of first, while Miramonte finds itself having to fight if they want to win the league title. Unfortunately for Campo, I think Miramonte will come out blazing after their loss to Las Lomas last week and blitz the Cougs 35-14.

    DVAL: CP@YV

YV will try to keep pace with Northgate and Concord while CP is trying to fight for it’s playoff life. CP has found itself on the wrong end of several close games including last week’s shootout with Northgate. Meanwhile, YV has been a pleasant surprise thus far in the season. But I think CP has the ability to upset the Warriors this week behind Valdez. 35-21 CP wins.

    MVAL: American@NM

The battle for third place in the MVAL takes place this Friday night when the Eagles travel to Newark. American had a lot coming back from last year’s team and have had close losses to Logan and Benicia that are nothing to be ashamed of. However, the loss to Liberty has put them behind the eight ball a little bit. With three games left they need to win two. They still have to play Washington, which they will probably lose, and Mission San Jose, which they will win. That means that this game more than likely determines whether they qualify for playoffs or not. Newark is in the same boat with needing to win two of their last four. That includes a game with Logan which they will lose and then MSJ and Irvington who they should beat. So this game could also be their playoff life. However, I think the Eagles win a tight game on the road 21-17.

    EBAL Previews:

DLS@SRV- Both teams come in off of wins, but in highly different fashions. DLS ran around, over, and through MV and cruised to a victory. SRV needed some last minute heroics by backup qb Joe Love to earn a somewhat surprising win over Foothill. The Wolves are trying to turn around their EBAL season after early losses to Granada and Cal. It seems that Kessler committed to sticking to a balanced offense. The paper said Kline was pulled after getting battered by Foothill defense. If that truly was the case, then they will be in trouble on Friday. DLS offense has been pretty good behind the running of Lucas Dunne, and it was nice to see junior Joe Te’o get past the century mark in the last game. Houston continues to be efficient. SRV does have one of the better defenses in the league, but their offense has been pretty questionable. They maybe keep it close for a quarter, but DLS prevails 42-14.

AV@MV- A rematch of the tight game from last year that included some questionable calls. Both teams coming in off losses, and it’s a game both need to win if they want to help their playoff chances. MV’s run defense will need to step up at some point if they want to compete. Meanwhile, AV qb Moreno has shown some promise as a passer as well. Ewanich is the go to player for Amador and will need to have a big game like he did against Livermore. Meanwhile, Sullas made his return last week, but hard to judge his performance when going up against DLS. Lockie has been inconsistent at qb and one has to wonder how much longer he will be starting or if Bergman might try something different with Finnegan. McGovern is still one of the best players in the East Bay this year despite his production dropping off, and I believe he will have a big game on both sides on Friday with the Mustangs winning 35-21.

Cal@Granada- This is the GOTW in my opinion. Granada has qualified for playoffs with their victory over Amador last week. They are riding high right now. But they face a daunting task in welcoming a Cal team that has pretty much blown through everyone they have faced so far. Whatever you feel about the preseason competition they faced, they haven’t put up anything less than 35 points all season long. Their defense has been pretty good too. A lot of people are starting to look down the road at the Cal-DLS game to finish the season, but this game could be tricky if they don’t stay focused. Cal really has done it as a team, and they will need that to corral George Atkinson III. He manages to break off at least one big run a game and some of those turn out to be the difference makers in games. However, beyond those big runs he actually has been held in check by all three defenses he faces. IMO he is more dangerous when he becomes a receiver and that is where Cal needs to keep an eye on him. Still, I don’t think Granada has the defense to stop Cal and the Grizzlies win 35-14.

Foothill@Livermore- Livermore coach Haubner goes up against his old school. While Damariay Drew has been pretty good for the Cowboys, he was dinged up in the last game and he really is their only weapon and chance for victory. If he can’t go, it will be ugly. Foothill had a tough loss last week against SRV, and I’m sure Sweeney has them focused for this game. Foothill dominates 35-7.

  5. George Manley Says:

After looking over the top 15 i believe that North Gate should be in Encinal’s slot at #7 and Encinal should be in North Gates spot. As for Alhambra…they are struggling and will probably drop out the week after next after facing Campolindo…without Miller, they are in serious trouble….

  6. s1lverngreen Says:

Gades 10: that is some good analysis for the upcoming week, thanks! Will have to tell Ben to hook you up with JOB when you get back to the Bay Area! When do you think Concord will face a real challenge? Playoffs?

  7. renegades10 Says:

Thanks s1lver, Concord will face a challenge in Northgate. That game could be higher scoring than the Concord-Heritage game.

  8. s1lverngreen Says:

Ok! who you do you take on the Concord/N gate game? Not familiar with Northgate, I have seen Ricky in passing league and he was impressive…

  9. renegades10 Says:

Lloyd is an impressive qb alright. Northgate has done it behind a running game featuring Stover and Butler and their qb Cost appears to be a good game manager. Normally I would go with a running team over a passing team any day, but Concord’s D stepped up when they needed it against Heritage who is a big time running team. I don’t see it being any different when they meet. Plus having a RB/LB like Pica doesn’t allow Northgate to get comfortable defending the pass. It should be a great game, but Concord will win by two scores.

  10. outsider Says:

I would take Concord to win but Northgate has been really impressive too. I am waiting to see if Concord ever runs into a team that can shut down their passing game.

  11. s1lverngreen Says:

thank you gentlemen..sounds like it will be some good football…gades 10, your thoughts on the VC/Bellarmaine game this weekend? the winner of this, should be league champs yes?

  12. 617lemon Says:

Silvergreen im taking valley christian to win. More weapons we all know were the ball is going with bellermine. 28-20 v.c.

  13. outsider Says:

I don’t see why Valley Christian is ranked as highly as they are. They barely beat Mitty and Mitty barely lost to San Ramon Valley. SRV is ranked 83rd in state and Valley Christian is ranked 6th. Cal beat SRV handily and is ranked 25th. It doesn’t compute.

  14. s1lverngreen Says:

Hmm, I noticed the Bells struggled with Sacred Heart…I saw Marshall at State (track)last year…Mamba fast for sure…One thing, the Bells always seem to step for the bigger games…if I had to pick, I’d give a slight edge to VC. Lemon, your prediction is probably accurate..I can even see the game coming down to a last minute FG…this should be a good game.

  15. renegades10 Says:

VC played a bad game against Mitty it happens to good teams as evidenced by Grant struggling with Monterey Trail this last week. It could happen to DLS too. Who knows, but the point is they came away with a win. However, it was highly disputed over a call surrounding a possible TD by Mitty that would have won the game. Don’t know the specifics. But good teams will have an off game.

Talent alone says take Valley Christian, but I am going to go with Bellarmine in this one. Last year they were supposed to drop off after losing a lot off of that talented 08 team. Then they went out and took care of business. This sounds like a great TEAM in every aspect of the word, and they have the type of offense to keep Marshall off the field as a RB. I think the Bells win 28-14.

  16. PVspartan Says:

Its going to take a team with incredible athletes in the secondary that can show man press and get after Lloyd, my guess is they haven’t seen that yet. Im sure most of the coverages they see are soft cover fours a straight cover 2 and some cover 2 man under with corners playing off. Until they face someone with surperior athletes on the edge and a coach who can call to tendencies with some man press and zone blitz with the occasional dropping of 8 or even 9 once in a while, this guy will continue to roll.

  17. outsider Says:

Is Lloyd so mobile that he can stay away from a good pass rush or not have it affect his accuracy by getting hurried?

  18. PVspartan Says:

Wow this is the first time ive ever sen Hercules and slugfest in the same sentence. Why dont we just have two polls; the EBAL poll and the rest of the eastbay poll?

  19. George Manley Says:

Outsider…Lloyd has the ability to stand in the face of fire looking for his receivers and will at the last minute break out and hit his man…There have been several times when he was on the run that he would hit his man under great preasure…every once in a while a kid like this shows up…

  20. DVAL Watcher Says:

The mystery of Lloyd will only be solved …. when you figure out Pica.

  21. George Manley Says:

DVAL Watcher….Pica could be called a man of steel, he is tough on blocking, nasty on defense and is very hard to bring down when carrying the ball…I watched him at the battle of the Capitol and many times it took several Whitney defenders to bring him down…This is one guy that opposing teams don’t like to face….

  22. EB Football Coach Says:

Get film on the Heritage/Concord game. Heritage did have superior athletes and excellent defensive team speed (especially on the DL), but Lloyd managed to elude the rush, buy time and hit recievers while falling in any number of directions. It happened at least three times on 4th and long. It was really quite impressive.

  23. D1 Scout Says:

The thing about Lloyd is his decision making is fast & just unreal, he throws even more accurate on the run and when he is rushed just manufactures big plays, blitz he finds the open guy, try a heavier coverage and he will run on you. The only tendency there is Lloyd will frustrate your defense coach.
Plus Starnes and Young can catch like damm circus people. Then there is Alec “Beast” Pica and Cody Chapple to worry about, both talented backs. Lloyd’s line is keeps getting left out of the puzzle they should soon be getting the credit they deserve.

  24. The insider Says:

    PVspartan Says:
Why dont we just have two polls; the EBAL poll and the rest of the eastbay poll?

An EBAL only poll, great idea! You could call it “The Endless Race for Second place” or “Snobs are us”

  25. wisdom Says:

I think the Dragons should go higher.

  26. ArmstrongJets Says:

George Manley – If I understand your logic for Northgate being in Encinal spot. You are saying Northgate that was previously #14 should be in the #7 spot based on their 53-44 win over College Park. And, Encinal previously #7 should drop to #14 based on their impressive win over SPSV, a consensus good team. This makes no sense unless you are indicating that Encinal should not be ranked at #7, which is ridiculous.

Your attempt to bring down the Jets accomplishments are very apparent and not based on facts. This type of opinion simply discredits your knowledge of football and displays your bias against the Jets. As always, the Jets keep on winning and all attempts to minimize their team and program with unreasonable opinions is evident to fans that understand the game.

    Go Jets!

  27. panther4 Says:

Insider, it sounds like you are a little put off by the EBAL:) Race for 2nd place is catchy, but not sure about Snobs are us. What team are you a supporter of? If it bothers you that EBAL teams are ranked above you get a few on your schedule and see how you do. The EBAL aren’t snobs, they are just confident of their teams, and rightly so. “If you don’t want us dancing in your end zone, don’t let us in your end zone.”

  28. eastbay football Says:

There is one poll, and Concord found a way to crack the EBAL, schedule tough and prove it against the best, otherwise you are stuck touting victories over Rancho…

  29. bval fan Says:

Renegades10….Heritage was dead last week against Liberty and that showed. Pitt was fired up going against rival Deer Valley. This week Heritage will be (IS) fired up like they have never been before. It will show this week!! Malik Watson will be exposed and Mozee will return to QB over the next two weeks. Heritage defense steps up this week for 4 picks. The score will be close…Heritage 37 Pitt 26….Heritage will have its first BVAL Championship this year….and with the 5-1 JV Team and the 6-0 Freshman Team, the legacy begins.

  30. Chris' Dad Says:

Does anyone know if N. Patrick will be playing for SPSV? I heard he might be out for the game against Moreau.

  31. CHALKtalk Says:

WHAT DO U GUYS THINK ABOUT THE NEW NO VIOLENCE RULE IN THE N.F.L.
i say if u dont want 2 get hit like that protect urself. The WR makes a conscience decision 2 go for the ball. He can also make a decision 2 protect himself. As a DB u train 2 hit vulnerable spots. These spot also allow u not 2 hurts yourself. what r u 2 do?

  32. renegades10 Says:

But the DB (Dunta Robinson) did hurt himself as a matter of fact he suffered a concussion. I haven’t read the rule but I thought they were talking about suspensions for helmet-to-helmet contact which I am fine with. After watching that hit, and Harrison’s too hits on Cribbs and Massaquoi, it reminded me you have to be a little bit crazy to play in the NFL.

  33. ArmstrongJets Says:

George Manley – BTW, SPSV is 5-1 and ranked No. 2 in NCS Division IV. (42-14 Jets)

College Park is 1-5 (Great 9 pt win for Northgate)

    Just the facts

  34. CHALKtalk Says:

    #32
do u think the offense get 2 go 100% and the defense should be put at a disadvantage rb lead with thier heads SIR. all the time.

  35. old former meddling coach. Says:

From the time you start to play Pop Warner to College as a defensive player you are taught to hit the ball carrier hard enough to jar the ball lose. The last few years this mindset is changing but too slowly And what about the guys who did learn to play that way that are in the pros. You don’t need to lead with your head to hit hard but it is hard to make kids understand that the helmet is for protection and only minimizes impact. The brain injury comes from the impact inside the skull. Jet pride!

  36. c.sparks Says:

george mantley is bleacher coach everybody…..

  37. CHALKtalk Says:

the bottom line is stop him b4 he stops you.
when u make players think instead of react the play slows
should u not be able 2 ear hole people now
no crack backs no pulling guards kicking out the defenseless ends i say BS

FOOTBALL IS NOT A GAME ITS A SPORT big difference!!!

  38. PVspartan Says:

I know its not anyones fault, but im sure the playing ground would be a little more even if teams on the rich side of the hill had to deal with the same problems the kids in west county face daily. Once again, its nobodys fault. I dont want to put a guilt trip on any yuppies, not my goal. The teams full of kids with broken homes and no life structure are at a natural disadvantage. 16 year olds at monte vista dont have the same lifestyle as kids at pinole valley and that will never change.

  39. PVspartan Says:

As for this new rule change, i just dont know. I played football unlike most of the guys chatting on these blogs and I just dont see how you can ask someone to tone down the violence that is football. Everyone stepping on the field understands the violence that comes with the title of being a football player. Im sure college coaches will go after the guy who let up and gave up a big play instead of the guy who knocked the snot out of someone.

  40. BleacherCoach Says:

LOL no thats not who I am but thank you anyway

  41. c.sparks Says:

hey how is it going “george mantley”

  42. BleacherCoach Says:

c.sparks I would own up to it if I where George. There are a few on the bloggs who know who I am so its all good

  43. Prep Fan Says:

Concord has 2 marquee wins this year, Amador Valley and Heritage. While AV had a nice run in the regular season last year, they may not make the playoffs this year. They still need 2 wins in their last 4 games vs. MV, Cal, SRV & Foothill. If they win 2 of those games, they’ll deserve their spot. Conversely, they could easily find themsleves in 7th place in the EBAL at year end. Heritage has played well this season, but has not really been tested, except against Concord. Should Heritage beat Pitt at home this week, Concord’s victory over them might loom larger, but if they fall to both Pitt and DV, then Concord’s schedule becomes a little suspect. Concord’s loss this year was to 4-3 Whitney, and their other wins were against Skyline, American & CV, not exactly world beaters this season.

Concord has looked good so far this year, Pica has been a beast and Lloyd has played out of his mind. Their fate will rest with how they handle business in league play vs. CP, YV and NG, and then in the D2 playoffs. They stand a good chance to do some serious damage in the playoffs if their defense steps it up. I hope they can score enough points become 2010 NCS champs.

  44. BVAL Expert Says:

    @ BVAL FAN

might want to think this over again … its not a easy league to play in the bval… to early to say heritage will win it all.. struggling against liberty=struggle against the better teams… No one doesnt really care for the lower levels.. so what? Heritage is a good team but people tend to over rate them to much…

  45. PVspartan Says:

I think yv has the best shot to match up with concord. They are physical and have a pretty good secondasy. They shut down the Casa Grande qb by pressuring and playing man on the back end more than half the time. Yv has a couple of good corners and a stud at wr who plays all over on defense. This will be the one game I tune into. Norhtgate can score, but i dont think they can match scores with concord and cp just doesn’t have a shot. If concord runs the table, they should get serious consideration for the sate game, but they wont.

  46. KillerD Says:

Encinal would be any EBAL team in a one-game showdown except for DLS and Cal High.

Encinal has more team speed across the board than any team in the EBAL other than DLS and Cal High’s too big and physical. Yes, they have more team speed than Granada, not withstanding the Atkinson’s too.

    Jets are incredibly fast.

  47. outsider Says:

Pretty impressive for a 25 man roster.

  48. pvspartan Says:

Encinal can not beat Granada, Srv, or MV. The would have a shot with Foothill. The only reason being the simular offense. C’mon man, be real. Theres no way Encinal could compete in the EBAL. This is an unbiased opinion that has seen just about everyone in the area. Encinal is good for a D 3 team, but try and keep things in perspective.

  49. outsider Says:

I would think that if a coach uses the roster size difference as part of their strategy then the smaller team would get worn out eventually.

  50. outsider Says:

If Encinal looks back at their game against Serra, that is what it would be like to play in the EBAL for every game, not just one.

  51. BVAL Expert Says:

Thats a joke putting encinal in the EBAL, lets be professional about our thinking

  52. panther4 Says:

If Encinal can compete with EBAl teams then lets get them some of the schedules and see how it goes. Washington gave it a shot this year and look what happened to them. They are a good team and will do well in their league but they were 0-3 against EBAL teams.

  53. BVAL Expert Says:

I agree before teams should start saying they belong in the EBAL.. then play them in the upcoming years ahead

  54. bval fan Says:

BVAL EXpert?? I never said the league was easy…I agree Heritage has been over rated a few times! This year they have the best team they have ever had…is it enough? I guess we will see friday night. The loss of Tyler MacDonald hurts but I think they still have enough to beat Pitt..It’s put up or shut up time…and the lower levels do matter at Heritage. Unlike the other schools these kids stay the full four years and don’t look to transfer out to what ever school has the best team.

  55. MURDOC Says:

I think Encinal has a shot to play with SRV, FOOTHILL, GRANADA, CASTRO VALLEY, LIVERMORE. Lets dip into the BVAL: Pittsburgh, Washington, Heritage. I think Encinal says BRING IT ON! But if DLS leaves…

  56. BVAL Expert Says:

Yes definatley put up or shut up time at this point… MAybe the lower levels matter but no one talks about Freedom’s JV or Freshman team? the Freshman team hasnt lost a game either, so apparently probably no one cares.. and also i could name a few players that QUIT the heritage team a couple of years ago.. maybe they didnt transfer but they quit

  57. ManDown Says:

Encinal can play with all those teams but there small roster will kill them in the 4th quarter like it did against Serra two years in a row.

  58. bval fan Says:

Heritage doesn’t need quiters….I hope Freedom kids stay at Freedom and make the BVAL dominant. People do care about the younger kids..maybe it’s just you?

  59. BVAL Expert Says:

The only people that care are the parents and some students…You never see anyone talk about the lower levels on the internet or on highlight stations

  60. Prep Fan Says:

A lot of DLS supporters can quote the frosh and JV records for the last 5 years without even having to stop and think about it. Some people do care. But, I agree the frosh games are like 12 year old little league or 8 year old soccer games, mostly just parents and fellow students who attend or care.

  61. pvspartan Says:

Encinal is getting way too much credit. Dont get me wrong, they are a good team, but plaing with the big dogs every week? Please. They would beat livermore and maybe amador. Like i said i like them against foothill, but MV/SRV/DLS/CAL all bet Encinal by multiple scores.

  62. pvspartan Says:

And the BVAL is nowhere near the EBAl. Pitt is going to win the BVAL and wouldnt function in the EBAL this year.

  63. Triton8 Says:

Encinal is good enough to compete on all levels…..their lack of size on defense and their lack of numbers in roster will limit them against some teams. Some of the EBAL teams couldn’t keep up with the Jets speed. But would the Jets be able to stand up to their offenses’ size? I don’t know?

“Encinal is getting way too much credit”? If memory serves me….and it may be shady….PV was getting a lot of attention until they took a bus up to Eureka???

  64. shabawler Says:

Vainuku was a beast last year. No one can argue that. But Eureka, not even Satan goes there.

  65. pvspartan Says:

Actually Pinole was getting no credit, thats why we had the 13th seed and a bus trip to Eureka. If memory serves me right, Pinole was 7-1 against Encinal when they were both part of the accal. The only team with a winning record and a positive rating from cal preps Encinal has beat is St. Pats who hasnt beat anyone worth mentioning themselves. encinals opponents they have beat thus far are 13-18. Combine the rest of the schedule and its 22-32 (thats including Moreau who is 4-1-1 without beating a team with a positive rating on cal preps). Hardly the EBAL. Wake up, they flat out couldnt compete. the got blown out by Serra who beat MV by 7.

  66. c.sparks Says:

If my mind serves me right washington knocked out an Ebal team in the playoffs last year, all the teams in Ebal stunk it up in the playoffs last year , expect for the all mighty.. and PV spartan encinal would spank you guys just like they did the last time they faced you guys , you guys are a joke every time you put up a good team you guys get spanked in the playoffs when a game againest good competetion, you guys can barely sqeak by a berkely team, the best team you guys beat was a Rancho cotate on cal preps (18.) and you guys barely won 23-21 .Encinal on the other hand handely beat st pats 42-14 whom on “cal preps” 16.4, i am not a big fan of cal preps, but even that Weak system is not on your side, get a grip and do something before you bring other teams down, Pinole valley sure as hell wouldnt last in Ebal, why dont you sneak that message to the masses, and get off encinals band wagon, and can some one tell me this. If mack wins out with the Enrollment of 400, would the be eleigible in the small school state championship?? even after the beated ferndale which is rated number two in the small divsion?

  67. Scl alum Says:

I don’t think PV will head up to Humboldt this year with the Loggers a DIII

  68. Reggie Hammond Says:

If Vainuku was a “beast” then Concrete must have been a “Titan” because Concrete served Vainuku in the POLY BOWL on offense and defense. Ran dude over 3 times. And Player of the Game.

  69. Sport Guy! Says:

    WTF? How could… A team that 3-3 or 4-2 be rank ahead of a team that’s 6-0? I’m curious…

  70. renegades10 Says:

Yeah the EBAL was disappointing in the playoffs, but don’t forget both Foothill and Monte Vista had to play DLS in the quarters and semis. If they are on the other side of the draw, I see them beating all the other teams except maybe Pitt who was playing well at the time. Remember MV had already blown the Pirates out once. DV was proved to be a two man show and once you stopped the Williams it was pretty much over.

  71. shabawler Says:

@Reggie Hammond: Every Uso has and Ufa-Lele.

  72. pvspartan Says:

smacked? they beat us by 10 points witha a pick six and a blocked punt for a td. not exactly smacked. smaked would be the outcome the previous seven years. noone is trying to bring encinal down, just back to reality. the system does work for us cotate(18.8) is rated higher than st pats(16.4), sequoia(16.9) higher than st. marys(3.7), and berk(12.8) higher than Moreau(0.2). Serra doesnt count, they got blown out. common opponent- Alameda. Pinole beat alameda 41-13 and could have been way worse, pinole only threw two passes. encinal beat alameda 27-12. bottom line, pinole has played a better schedule, no way to argue that. pinole looked better against a commom opponent. pinole has more size and speed. pinole doesnt run a gimic offense.that berk team we sqeaked by would beat encinal by multiple scores. in the end, niether pinole or encinal could compete in the EBAl, but at least we know it. while you guys keep beating small overrated catholic schools and thinking you can play with the big schools.

  73. pvspartan Says:

what was the score of the MC encinal game last year? MC only beat berk by a td without berks starting qb.

  74. pvspartan Says:

how many accal titles did encinal win when it was in the league from 2000-2007? i think its the same as their score against MC.

  75. Triton8 Says:

Damn…..sorry…..looks like I struck a nerve? “Gimmic offense”? Last I heard, when your team’s running backs are averaging over 10 yds per carry….there’s no gimmic to that? They’re running the ball and everyone knows it….and they still hit on 10 yds a carry. As far as Berkeley? They are a good team year in and year out, and they deserve respect for that, but I would like to see that matchup. I wouldn’t be so quick to say the Jets would get beat by “multiple scores”???? Would probably be a pretty good game. Still chuckling about the gimmic comment???

  76. Triton8 Says:

sorry….looks like I struck a nerve? The Berkeley vs Encinal game would be a lot closer than you think. It would be a good game, and Berkeley is definitely a great program. I’m sure you wouldn’t agree though….as I’m sure that you think that PV would romp over Encinal just like Eureka blasted PV last year, right. As far as your “gimmic” offense comment goes……you’re pretty funny with that!!!!! When your team averages over 10 yds a carry????? I guess that’s a gimmic, huh?

  77. outsider Says:

Referring to post #70. Cal was not itself last year. New coach, disgruntled seniors, they played beneath themselves. Washington beat them twice but Washington was a little better last year than this year overall. Cal drew a great spot in the playoffs in the opposite bracket from DLS but could not get past the first round. It was very disappointing. Amador Valley had been hot but then succumbed to injuries and I think so did Granada and Foothill so were not as good as mid-season. The EBAL took its toll last year.

  78. BVAL Expert Says:

    PV Spartan..

BVAL might not be as srong as the EBAL… but they are right underneath them thats for sure… that league is always mixed with different out comes, teams getting better and better… BVAL is the second hardest league for sure

  79. Old former meddling Coach Says:

PV Spartan, Are you forgetting the Encinal Spanked PV the last year they were in the ACCAL and Finished with best overall record. Jet Pride!

  80. Reggie Hammond Says:

CalPreps get off it. Those ratings mean nothing. How’s this for a rating. Encinal’s weakest team in the last 4 years 07 beat the best team that Steve Alameda ever had 07. They went the furthest that makes them the best. Don’t talk about all those undefeated Pinole teams that went 10-0 & lost in the first round.

Taking that into account what makes you think that Pinole could beat Encinal now? Seems like Encinal has only gotten better & PInole hasn’t even made it back to par of the Haydays when they ran the ACCAL. 06 Tenorio’s first year establishing a program. If memory serves they beat teams that beat Pinole every year since they left the ACCAL.

  81. Reggie Hammond Says:

  82. bval watcher Says:

if dls didn’t get any kids form the bval neighborhood, how good would they be? most of their rb’s and other players past and present are from the antioch/pittsburg area. that’s includig dunne who played for antioch youth football. this is the reason bval can compete with ebal. they have the athletes to get the job done.

  83. mytwocents Says:

PV Spartan, we will never know forsure if any of your statements regarding Encinal being able to compete against schools with bigger student bodies then their 1,000
students compared to schools like Pinole (1,600) students is true.

By you having zero parameters regarding how long ago your talking about as well as making unrealistic comparisons it becomes obvious that your main argument is to discredit the Jets, with that in mind I will tell you BVAL EBAL WHATEVER the case may be bottom line is if ENCINAL played Pinole TODAY we would beat you.

  84. outsider Says:

I know that one of the top running backs from Cal’s freshman team last year went to play at De La Salle this year. Not just kids from the BVAL.

  85. renegades10 Says:

Is it the Niazi kid? I don’t even think he is starting on the JV’s but not sure on that one.

  86. fannn Says:

DLS QB should have gone to CAL as well…

  87. outsider Says:

Renegades10- That’s the one. But it illustrates the point that a top prospect from one of the public schools might not even start at DLS because they have others who are better from other sources.

  88. PVspartan Says:

we have a running back averaging 10 a carry out of the I. Am I arguing with children? Pinoles hayday in 07? Pinoles hayday was the late 70′s early 80′s when they were winning 4A(the big boys) state championships. Steve Alamedas best team? He won NCS in 1988 at kennedy of richmond! a little guy named jason harvey at qb and a little guy named demarco farr at dt.he was also the oc for the 99 and 00 spartans that beat pitt, loagan twice and MV. in 99 the spartans lost in the semis to san leandro 21-7 who had dennis dixon(steelers) and jerrod page(patriots). if a nerve was struck, it was the gimmic offense. whats wrong with my dates? the accal was formed in 2000, moving pinole from the bval. pinole won league in the first two years and have won it two years since. encinal never won league. honestly, i hold no grudge against encinal. i hope they do well, but saying they could compete in the 5th rated league in california(EBAL) is just dreaming. I would agree that the BVAL is the second best league in the area, but there is a big gap. talk about de la salle getting players from areas? dj williams, maurice drew, and armani toomer were all suppossed to attend pinole. toomers older bro played at pinole, but his father a local ref was upset his son didnt earn a scholarship so he sent armani to de la. if and when alameda and encinal combine, if they can figure out a way to keep both coaches on staff it would be a top notch program. encinals coach is a good recruiter and rocklin is a good x and o guy eventhough his teams play very dirty. plus, nobody likes to play at either of those fields. im pretty sure pinole could hold off encinal this year. the main reason being 6-4 200lbs 4.4.speed mike linebacker travis feeney(verbal commit to arizona). i think it would be a good game, closer than encinal and berk for sure. berk is just too big and athletic, if you cant outcoach them, you cant win.

  89. BVAL Expert Says:

WTF Maurice jones drew is from Antioch not pinole

  90. Reggie Hammond Says:

We’re talking this decade. Pinole get over yourselves. Only talking big now that the B-High game is over.

  91. bval fan Says:

PV SPARTAN….Pitt is going to win the BVAL?????? They need to win more than 1 game to get that done! That second win won’t come this friday against Heritage. They should beat Antioch and Liberty…

  92. renegades10 Says:

MJD grew up in Pinole but moved to Antioch. I don’t know how you think DJ was supposed to attend Pinole though. He grew up in Del Paso Heights in Sacramento which is Grant Pacer territory for those who don’t know, applied to DLS and moved to Pittsburg. This was covered in another thread. His half brother Worrell Williams could not afford DLS and so he stayed in Sacto and went to Grant. I thought Amani Toomer was from Pitt as well, but not as positive on that one.

  93. BleacherCoach Says:

Reggie Hammond lets not get carried away the Jets are good but the team of the decade? Really ? They have 2 NCS Championships spread over 28 years. Cardinal Newman has 8 Marin Catholic has 6 Miramonte has 7 and Novato has 4.
With the Eastbay and Northbay now combined no team will be able to go on a long run again.

Hell Encinal may not even survive the decade as a high school much less win another NCS

  94. fremont Says:

Me being biased about my alma mater I really think that with Washingtons Pre-season schedule really has prepared them for a run in the D2 playoffs. They are finally getting healthy and I don’t see anyone besides Concord that has the talent level of the teams they played in there first four games. Carter, Chapmen, and Jennings are three really good football players. any thoughts?

  95. bhsfan Says:

pvspartan u got lots of facts wrong, mo drew is from antioch, i can bet on that, 2nd dennis was not on that 99 san leandro team. ur talkin bout the fall of 99 senior c/o 2000 then dennis was a freshman and played for the san leandro crusaders that year, marviel underwood was the running back and i dont recall jared page starting his soph year

  96. brandonbeard Says:

Pinole is very basic on ofeense. It’s called control the Line Of Scrimmage, period! They don;t do anythiung tricky, they just line up and beat you in my opinion.

  97. brandonbeard Says:

Yeah I think Pinole could beat Encinal this year as well, but it would be a great game!

  98. PVspartan Says:

dennis dixon started at qb as a soph in the 2000 season, thats what i meant. dj williams attended pinole middle school and was snatched off a west county spartans football field by de la salle. drew as a child was suppossed to play for pinole. all three facts, sorry fellas. why would i make this crap up, i was actually part of these facts, didnt read them somewhere, i was there.

  99. Wizard Says:

Encinal beating weak teams does not translate to success in the Ebal. Too say they would beat any EBAL teams is nonsense. Heck they would finish third in the MVAL behind Logan and washington, two teams spanked by EBAL teams (foothill and cal). Too suggest their speed would be something new to an EBAL team tells me you don’t pay attention. foothill who is the third or fourth best team in the EBAL this year already thumped Pitt, and beat Granada and Logan, all teams with more speed than foothill and all better teams than Encinal. Enjoy your success Encinal but don’t get crazy. Enjoy the cream puff schedule and the recognition it brings.

  100. PVspartan Says:

wow, finally someone who shares my opinion anout encinal. its not about putting encinals players or coaches down, but its just being real.

  101. Old former meddling Coach Says:

I will say this to Wizard and PV. I don’t Know if we have the numbers (22-25) to be effective in the EBAL but I KNOW we do have the Quality players and Quality Coaching to make a splash. I can’t say how we would do since i can’t see into the future (Like you guys) but i do know our guys at the NAILHOUSE go hard 24-7 So please turn off the hatervision and put down the haterade. The record the last 4 yrs speaks for it’s self. Jet Pride!

  102. pvspartan Says:

dive, sweep, sallie and the fade

  103. ManDown Says:

pvspartan & brandonbeard, Encinal would beat Pinole Valley this year and the past two years since they left the ACCAL. I give you guys credit that you’re winning this year but I honestly think that they would get you. Beating Berkeley doesnt really mean much this year and the thing that makes Encinal tricky is that they play fast. Pinole and Berkeley will match speed very well but since Encinal is very well coached they play fast and I think thats why they have success putting under-sized players out of position and with only 22-25 players on a roster. I like you guys down at Pinole but you’re talking big right now.

  104. BVAL expert Says:

Yes Encinal is good, but their is no freakin way that they can go into the EBAL i dont care if you have the talent or not, the right coaching or not… because the main question is can they be disipline enough to stop these teams.. before you even start thinking about playing teams in the EBAL start working your way up playing DFAL DVAL and BVAL teams.. and beating berkeley doesnt mean that much

  105. ManDown Says:

I agree with you BVAL expert. I think what Killer D said was taken out on content. I think he meant just one game not as if they were in the EBAL “Encinal would beat any EBAL team in a one-game showdown except for DLS and Cal High”.

  106. ManDown Says:

pvspartan & brandonbeard, maybe you guys should try to schdule a game with them next year and prove what you are saying is right.

  107. KillerD Says:

Mandown…………….Yes you are correct about Encinal in a one game showdown they would beat any EBAL team, except DLS and Cal this year, and that is exactly what I meant and said

  108. pvspartan Says:

The hang up with playing encinal is they are d3. if we lose, which could happen, it would hurt us was more for playoffs than help us if we won. i was hopeing for realignment to place the best teams from pinole to alameda in the same league regardless of commute and school size. i would have loved to see pinole, encinal, alameda, berkley, el cerrito, and salesian in the same league. encinal and salesian would be a great league teams to play, but nonleague would make little sense.

How can anyone say encinal is better coached than Pinole? Steve Alameda is one of the best coaches in the history of high school football in northern california. Hes been coaching in the area since the early 70′s and has always been a winner.

Why is everyone dismissing Berkeley? They beat Pitt, who i think will win the BVAL(well see on friday) and played with a very good MC team without the starting qb. They also played very well in a tough game with pinole at pinole where the spartans havent lost in over 2 years. I know they arent a d1 power, but they are huge and my be the most athletic team in the area.

With all the negative talk about encinal, i do think they would finish in the top 3 of every league in the area except the EBAL.

  109. pvspartan Says:

I do think Encinal would have beaten Pinole the last two years, but i would have to give the edge to Pinole this year.

  110. KillerD Says:

I have picked the Spartans of Pinole to go at least two rounds deep into the playoffs this year.

    Enjoy the ride

  111. ManDown Says:

pvspartan, you guys played Irvington and Tech this year and you mean to tell me that playing Encinal would hurt you more than playing those two weak teams? We all know for a fact playing a OAL team gives you no credit come plaoff time so I don’t want to hear that and Irvington is horrible! Berkeley beating Pitt means nothing because Pitt just won there first game.

  112. Scl alum Says:

Any predictions on winner of DFAL after Mirmamonte upset (and Alhambra one the week before)?

  113. Scl alum Says:

    *Miramonte- oops

  114. ManDown Says:

The DFAL is going to be a little strange this year. i have no idae who will win it but if I had to take a guess it will be Alhambra

  115. marmar Says:

for those ppl out there bashing encinal ur crazy! lets look at the facts shall we. encinal has ben undefeate in the bsal fore ther past 2 years going on 3. the jest may have a small roster but nwe have great speed all across the roster, nobody in the bsal has stood a chance, and last time i checked the jest have been to the d3 champoimship game the past 2 years , also they led the whole east bay in rushing last year with thier second leading rushe returning in number 32 jonathan allen. the jets would beat half the teams in the ebal, may i recall the beating givin to mirairmonte last seasonn to go to the championship game. hands down jets deserve to be number 7 in the east bay

  116. BVAL Expert Says:

I agree with man down, when you play in the OAL or the ACCL those wins in league play wont really help you out.. thats why berkeley is more of a one and done team, they usually lose in the 2nd or 1st round. the only team that hasnt done that is encinal but notice that encinal is in divsion 3 (NO EBAL TEAMS).. thats why they get very far

  117. pvspartan Says:

Pinole made it to the championship in 07 beating a very good washinton team and a decent arroyo team before getting waffle stomped by san ramon who should have been d1. I see the argument when it comes to Irvington, noone knew they would be this bad this year. tech is good every year, they had 3 pac 10 players last year. its a good match up and we will pob continue to play tech. the spped they play with prepares us for teams like berk and el cerrito. like i said before it makes no sense to play a d3 team in the pre season. if we lose it hurts and if we win it doesnt matter. one thing is for sure, playing pinole in the pre season would help encinal big time. berk beating pitt will mean something if pitt wins the bval.

  118. pvspartan Says:

As for the DFAL, if LL wins out and miramonte beats alhambra, they win league. But if alhambra wins out they win league. miramonte has to win out and needs LL to lose another game.

  119. Reggie Hammond Says:

I’m not talking team of the decade I’m talking about high school football this decade. Bringing up 70′ & 80′s & teams other then Pinole is stupid.

  120. Reggie Hammond Says:

Steve Alameda doesn’t want to play Encinal anyways so talk big that they’re D-III.

  121. pvspartan Says:

you talked about the coaching stupid. steve alameda is the the current coach of pv stupid. the was a world that played high school football before your mom should have said no.

  122. pvspartan Says:

decade? encinal has only been worth a crap for four years. last time i checked a decade is 10. last decade, encinal 1-6 vs pinole. not theoretical games, actual games played. pinole has wone more games this decade. alameda has coached more wins this decade. pinole has more playoffs wins this decade. pinole has more league titles this decade. pinole has more scholarship athletes this decaed. pinole has produced more pro athletes this decade. wtf?

  123. Reggie Hammond Says:

Pinole sucks get over your self you beat a weak B-High team now your high & mighty. I know, I know, your best Pinole team of the 2000′s got embarassed by Encinal. I know it hurts. Steve Alameda your leader bowed down. You lost to EC & Alameda High last year 2 teams that Encinal embarrassed. Lost to EC in 08 another team that Encinal embarrassed. I know it hurts. You guys suck you run a weak scheme with all those NFL athletes & you lose to teams you should beat.

  124. Reggie Hammond Says:

4 years??? How bout your only as good as your last 4 years. Hahahaha. (dumbass)

  125. Olinecoach Says:

pvspartan post 117, you fail to mention that Pinole got BLOWN out by San Ramon in the finals in 07 too. In fact, I was at that game and it appeared that Pinole quit after the first couple of SRV scores. I do think that Pinole could beat Encinal this year, but not the last 2. Encinal has some speed. They are a well coach and solid team. Hang in the EBAL, not at all. I have coached in the EBAL and there are SOLID teams year in and year out with depth.

Now, combine AHS and EHS and we’ve got a different story. The ‘New Alameda’ team could be a legit contender in D1.

  126. PVspartan Says:

I said we got waffle stomped, i dont think you can use any phrase to better describe that game against SRV. This guy hammond must be a recent player at encinal. saying we suck is just stupid, theres a lot of good kids out there that go through a ton to be part of the pinole program. I never said encinal sucked or put them down. I can prob say you suck and still feel good. berk isnt our best win this year (dumbass). Rancho Cotate is. we dropped the ball aginst sequioa, we were up 14-0 at half and let them back in it. gotta give them credit sequoia is pretty good, damn good qb.

Marmar #115- miramonte belongs to the DFAL not the EBAL, whole different monster.

So hammond, let me get this straight. A program and coach that has been good for 4 years is more impressive than a school which has had a winning tradition since they opened in the late 60′s and a coach who has won games in 4 decades? In case you were wondering, Pinole has only had 3 head coaches in its history. people around here still take pride in that high school, Just like you still take pride in encinal.

Any other negative comments about the schools that have help carry high school football around here for the last 50 years?

  127. Olinecoach Says:

PV Those who state that teams, players, or coaching staffs suck, have no idea what it takes to play this sport. You can have the best athletes and not win, or completely just the opposite. You must respect the game and the opponent you face each and every week. If you don’t, then it will get away from you and before you know it, you’ve lost what is truly important.

  128. PVspartan Says:

I agree, thats why i never said anyone sucked, except this guy hammond who said pinole sucked. he has no clue what these kids go through everyday. Most of the players on Pinoles roster come from different parts of richmond, Pinole is drawing from those areas due to the lack of children in pinole. were talking about south and central richmond and parchester village. the amount of effort it takes these kids to get to school, feed themselves and continue to produce on the field and in the classroom is not crazy. and for this bonehead to say they suck because i sing thier praise is over the top idiotic and disrespectful.

  129. PVspartan Says:

im sorry, i meant to say the effort is crazy

  130. BleacherCoach Says:

Reggie Hammond you should jump off the Jets jock and jump on Novato’s if your talking the last 5 years Novato has 3 NCS Championship’s. Novato was the only team the last decade to win 3 straight they own the last decade since 2000 Novato is 102-23-0 score board fool go back to your cell

  131. BleacherCoach Says:

before everyone gets in an uproar othe than DLS

  132. Reggie Hammond Says:

How’d Novato do on Saturday?? Didn’t hear you talking after that game my friend.

  133. BleacherCoach Says:

lol shut up convict. It’s all good Reggie at the end of the decade the Jets still only have 1 NCS Championship and a .500 record SCORE BOARD FOOL

  134. Reggie Hammond Says:

What was the score in 08 when they played?

  135. BleacherCoach Says:

The Jets won 35-28 in the last minute of the game in no way a blow out it was a great game on both sides of the ball. What happened in ’09 O yes the Jets got blasted what was the score?

  136. Triton8 Says:

Jesus…..all I said was that the Jets could compete in the EBAL. I didn’t say they would go undefeated and walk through it? You act like PV’s the damn Notre Dame of Bay Area High School Football and we should all bow down! If your going to go way back…Encinal has a pretty decent history as well. Check it. We were nearly unbeatable in the old ACAL throughout most of the 80′s….I know for sure we didn’t lose a league game in 84,85,86 & 87. But I guess that doesn’t matter….the RBAL was so much better I guess. I actually lived in Pinole in the late 70s….so I was there for Dale Svuem and Toretta and Co. So I know about PV history as well…and they were a great program….I watched them play Kevin Whilhite from Rancho Cordova in a great game. No one is saying PV sucks or even that Encinal would crush them this year…..I think it would be a great game with them or Berkeley. As far as your win by multiple scores…I don’t think so. Encinal doesn’t have such a horrible history either, you know? Tautalatasi, Crouse, Carver, McCall…..we have had our share of NFL players….so don’t sell us short. I think it makes sense to talk recent history in terms of when Tenorio started. Check those numbers and I think you will be impressed. I don’t think I would call him a recruiter, and I don’t think he has trouble with his Xs & Os. Watch the timing and precision that his offense runs with and you should be impressed. His kids know what their doing and do it fast….

And Bleacher Coach….shake yourself and remember your roots! Novato was Enicinal’s bitch 2 years ago with the Jets 2nd best player watching on crutches!

  137. Triton8 Says:

Damn Bleacher Coach…you’re gonna claim the whole Marin County? pick a school and stick with it!!!!!

  138. renegades10 Says:

Triton8, there is a big difference between being competitive with EBAL teams in a one game showdown, and being competitive in the league. In addressing the former, Encinal has had some teams that would be competitive in a one game showdown. For the latter point, no I do not believe they could compete well in the EBAL and it is because of the numbers game. Put them through a full EBAL schedule as it is right now, and with only twenty some odd players they would find it tough. Now if they do combine with Alameda, we can talk about it because the numbers will surely increase. But as it stands right now, Encinal would find it tough to succeed playing through a full league EBAL schedule. It’s kind of like Boise. They do fine playing top teams from the power conferences in one game showdowns, but put them into an SEC type league schedule with the week in and week out competitiveness and they lose two to three games a year at least imo. In the BSAL, there are some games where Encinal doesn’t have to play their best to win and most starters get to come out early, if they have subs for them. But the EBAL schedule really is a battle of attrition, one which Encinal would lose more often than not.

  139. Triton8 Says:

Those are all good points……it would be like anything else…..you gotta walk before you can run. Other than DLS, I don’t think any team dominates the league….there is too much competition in that league. I don’t doubt that they would have tough times and lose games, but I hardly think they would be doormats. As an Encinal graduate, I love the fact that Tenorio has brought back pride to our small community and he deserves the credit he is getting. He is strapped to a weak league, and he tries to schedule a tough non league season. Unfortunately, he cannot drop the Alameda game. He is like Beam at Skyline was….Beam knew that his league was weak at times, so he loaded his non league schedule with as many stud programs as possible. Of course, Beam was loaded with more talent than any other program in the Bay Area at the time…..yes, that included DLS. That was a PROGRAM!

“george mantley” i mean bleacher coach, are you a marin fan or novato fan?… thats like me being an encinal and alameda fan?.. your such an idoit your opinion holds absolutely no weight, your an idoit with biased views. you make the very classy novato and marin fan base look bad…leave your dumb views in your head.. on the other hand renegades makes an Great point in which i cant argue, but only agree.

  141. renegades10 Says:

Triton, I agree Tenorio has done a great job and to be honest if the schools combine, they better hold on to him, because if they don’t he is going to go and take some other program to a high level of success.

  142. PVspartan Says:

Final point. Look at the pool. In the top 12 teams, who would you pick encinal to beat? People who think encinal could compete in the EBAL, please save your opinion obviously its flawed. I would pick them against Mac and Nothgate. Thats it.

  143. Guest Says:

Encinal is very well deserving of it’s #7 spot. They have the athletes and have had the athletes for a couple decades now to be on top and the great coaching they get now has them in great playoff runs they past years. The schram era had many high times but nothing like there is under tenario. His staff gets the best out of it’s players and they make big plays against the big teams ( other than last years championship). Here is just one example of how well theyre coached, how fast they play, and how ohdical they have been the past few years.

    A for triton8 in #136.

1)Never said PV was Notre Dame, just a high school with a great historuy in the area.

    2)RBAL was that much better.

3)Name dropping NFL players from our schools will get us nowhere.

    4) According to people Ive spoken with in Alameda, Tenorio does recruit. And the offense he runs is not an x and o scheme. I dont agree with the scheme, just dont think it prepares kids to play at the next level. Thats still our goal right?

    5) Nothing negative was said about Encinals history.

    6) What they did in the 80′s does matter, my point exactly. This bonehead Hammond is the guy who thinks high school football has only been around for his lifetime.

    7) Hammond did say Pinole sucks.

    8) I know what Encinal has done under Tenorio, dont have to “check it”.

    9) Its my opinion and its not biased, i dislike the other side of the hill as much as the next guy, but Encinal could not compete in the EBAL. They would beat Livermore, play with Amador and maybe foothill this year because of the simularities on the offensive side of the ball. SRV, Granada, DLS, and MV would lay it to Encinal.

    10) The only year dating back to 2000 that Encinal beat Pinole was 2007. I give them credit, it was a good Pinole team and it took a punt return for a td and a pick six to win. Pinoles star running bck Purvis(starts at UNLV) was hurt during that game and was running on one lag. With that being said Encinal took that game and i give them credit, but Pinole is still 6-1 this century against Encinal if you want to lean heavily on recent history.

  146. MURDOC Says:

    PVspartan,

Sounds like you have a little hater in you know. You can’t be from the Rich or the Rich area boy because you wouldn’t be hating like this. You out-of-pocket little buddy. Every body in Alameda is excited about Pinole right now and you keep on hating. Why You Wanna…?

  147. Guest Says:

If we want to lean on recent history encinal has had 2 championship appearences one being a win… Many teams want to be in their position but aren’t and it shows how envious the FANS are (don’t want to directly associate comments made in here with the programs themselves something many people seem to forget). Youre “sources” are wrong on that recruiting tip. All the athletes have come from the middle schools on the island. That offense is a lot more then x’s and o’s something that take a couple seasons for a QB the backs to really adapt to. And they have produced some good college athletes so there’s no validity to that point. Encinal and Pinole both solid teams over the years but their not going to play anytime soon so time to hop of all the speculation.

  148. NAILHOUSEJETS08 Says:

One thing I know about Tenorio and his staff is that they do everything they can to help these kids get to the next level ask his former/present players and parents. I can’t believe that someone said his scheme doesn’t prepare kids for the next level. You’ve got to be kidding me dude! His runs so many different offenses and the O has been so explosive for some years now so how isnt that x’s and o’s? Defensivly they preach tackling, hard hitting, playing fast, and make plays. If you want to see highlights look them up on youtube. Some schools only run 6-8 plays, ex.De La Salle, and you mean to tell me his scheme doesnt prepare them for the next level? In my 4 years there the only transfers I seen were players that moved into the area or already lived in the area that were going to differnt schools before Encinal. The guys you must have been talking to are HORNETS trying to give us a bad name! Jet Pride!

  149. Guest Says:

    Well said MURDOC

  150. ManDown Says:

Coach Tenerio does have some players on his roster that went to Berkeley High. I don’t know if he recruited them or not but how else would they end up there? Pvspartan, why doesnt coach Tenerio’s scheme prepare kids for the next level?

  151. old former meddling coach. Says:

PV Spartan? Can PV play in the EBAL? Jet Pride!

  152. billjohnson Says:

    Mandown,

I know… That kid, lived in Alameda for the last 12 years. Lol. There are others out there just like that kid your talking about out and we know who you are…

  153. The Fan Says:

the lineman who transferred to encinal from berk last season wasnt a recruit. he landed at encinal in alameda (where both of his parents live) after he left berk but he went to another high school prior to that. and the DB transfer this year has family who lives on the island and i believe cousins who attend encinal as well. I will say it once again NO RECRUITING GOING ON THERE (would be nice tho to recruit and man a larger roster)

  154. Islander Says:

Just to clear up some of the Encinal info; Encinal is an open enrollment school in Alameda. That means that any kid living in Alameda or off the island can attend Encinal High School, regardless of where the kid lives. Alameda High School is an impacted school. Its kids are required to live within its district boundaries, approximately Union Street in the center of the island. There are at least three kids on Encinal’s team that attended elementary and middle school on the east (Alameda High’s) end of the island, but chose to attend Encinal High School. Why these made that decision (i.e. football, friends, etc) is a personal and family decision.

If a kid chooses to attend EHS, he or she can. If a kid wants to go to AHS, he or she must live in the school’s boudaries.

billjohnson, What do you mean there are others out there? People live in Alameda and go to other schools besides Encinal to play football? What fool would do that?

  157. The Fan Says:

thanks for the clarification Islander. just wondering are there any athletes that went to a middle school in alamedas end that chose to go to encinal that u guys wish would have went to Alameda?

  158. mytwocents Says:

Enough about past events lets get current.Encinal will feature Jr.RB Jon Trodder,Sr.Paul Okamura and Soph Corey Sails today vs Albany. The Jets
will give Jon Allen time to rest a minor injury and prepare for the big run
to theplayoffs. If the Jets handle business the next four weeks they should
have a shot for a top ranking entering post season play.

  159. Reggie Hammond Says:

I’ve heard its very difficult to get into Encinal now. Its not as easy as Islander has made it out to be. INterdistrict is avery tough process challenged & checked by the Alameda Unified School district. If kids don’t have good grades coming out of Middle school or at all are a discipline problem they don’t get admitted any more. Once kids are admitted they are still held to a very high standard. There are no kids from all over West & Central Richmond that attend Encinal.

  160. The Fan Says:

hopefully it rains at tonights game so that the boys can get ready for playoff whether as disaster struck the last time in rained during a game :’(

  161. Islander Says:

@ The Fan, I would have to say that all three of the kids I mentioned above would be great additions to AHS football. I know all three of them and they are good kids in addition to being good football players. Again, the fact that they chose EHS is their decision and their right under the distict’s rules.

  162. The Fan Says:

the only person that i can think of that is from richmond who played for the jets didnt just go to encinal out of the blue. he attended AUSD schools while in both elementary and middle school.

  163. ManDown Says:

The Fan, Who are you talking about?

  164. 617lemon Says:

islander if you were 15 what school would you go to encinal or alameda to play football? go to a school that makes deep runs in the playoffs has teams like boise, ucla, arizona come to games or play in tonite’s hercules/alameda game?

  165. EBfootball Says:

And many kids from all over the place go to Alameda High as well as any other “good” school to get away from “bad” schools. In fact, Federal Law under the No Child Left Behind Act allows for kids to attend another school if they live in a district with an underperforming school. And parents also do-what-they-gotta-do to get their kids out of those messed up Oakland schools and into Alameda or San Leandro schools. And this is not for football. It’s so they don’t get robbed, shot, or raped. Life’s bigger than football.

  166. Olinecoach Says:

Hey lemon, it would not be a Friday night without some trash talk from you.

I was in that predicament when I was going into high school. My sister went to Encinal and the Jets just won NCS, but o chose to go to Alameda. Why, because I was already bleeding gold. Hornet Pride!

  167. Olinecoach Says:

I would like to wish the other black and gold team the best of luck tonight. Let’s see Granada beat Cal.

  168. Prep Fan Says:

Granada is playing at home and plus it’s homecoming for them. Also, the rain today won’t hurt them a they don’t have a QB that throws the ball much. They have a shot alright, but I’m pulling for the Grizz.

  169. Alvisaurusrex Says:

Granada has always been a decent program. Never as bad as their records have depicted. Even the year that Cal went to the NCS championship game, Granada only lost by 4 points to Cal. This is why I’m glad to see that they’re actually doing well this year in the EBAL.

With that said, I still think the Cal players are bigger and more physical and will definitely bring that to the field during the game, and use it to win against Granada.

  170. renegades10 Says:

Curious to see how George Atkinson does tonight…The other EBAL teams let him get 1 or 2 big plays which accounted for most of his yards. But most carries he was bottled up. As long as they account for him when he becomes a receiver Cal should contain him.

  171. MZ piggy Says:

The Lineman of Cal are BIG tough solid. They should man handle both sides of the ball. If they play their normal game cal will win. I heard Pearson and Garwood are being recruited D1. heard anything?

  172. Footballer Says:

Still baffled with the three-way tie at the 15 spot. Amador Valley’s record is below .500 with the blowout defeat to Monte Vista, and Freedom lost to Amador Valley . Freedom also lost to mildly competitive teams in Golden Valley and Deer Valley .
I don’t think we should underestimate the potential coming out of Bishop O’Dowd, the only team in that tie that hasn’t lost more than 1 game (a very close loss to S.I. in week 2). they haven’t had a very impressive schedule so far, but they are coming off of back to back 60+ point victories and are mowing down every team they play with ease. They’ve got alot of talent on both sides of the ball and a very experienced coaching staff. Key games for them this season will be Hayward next week & San Leandro the following week. Odowd is the HAAL league leader now and If they manage to knock off San leadnro’s league title streak i think they will open up alot of eyes. Don’t count them out.

some one plz explain what happend

  176. ManDown Says:

Arroyo should feel good right now. Thats a big win for the program and it could be a boost for there season. It also shows you how good San Leandro is… That is a shame when a team has such a big drop off from where they were. SL used to be right there at the top behind DLS. They need to consider getting a new head man for the job because they have the athletes and 7th period weight lifting class to go with it.

  177. billjohnson Says:

    jimmy,
did albany forfeit against encinal officially. im hearing things…

  178. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Albany did not forfeit. It’s going to be up to the league to decide if it will be called a forfeit or just a no contest and there hasn’t been a decision made yet that I’m aware of.

  179. EBfootball Says:

Albany didn’t provide refs. That’s their fault. Should be a forfeit. I heard refs showed up but were turned away.

  180. ManDown Says:

There is a little friction between these two teams? Coach Tenerio seems to have taken a shot at Albany after not playing a game.

Nickerson and company are doing a very good job in their first season at Odowd.

    1. Encinal
    2. Marin Catholic
    3. Eureka
    4. Ygnacio Valley
    5. Bishop Odowd
