Where does the Contra Costa Times get their stat numbers from? Maxpreps show different numbers. who’s stats are correct?
October 26th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
Joe, we compile them from the box scores we get from our reporter at the game each week. Maxpreps’ stats are submitted by each individual team (could be a coach or a parent, whoever is designated to submit them by the team).

I am not sure who is responsible for the DLS maxpreps stats, but they do have some people who go over all the game film after every game to make sure they get the stats correct. I know they took away what was designated as a passing TD from Bart to Dunne against St. Mary’s because after watching it on film it was clear that the pass went backwards, something that was hard to see at game speed. So Dunne was credited with a rushing TD.

Thanks for the info Ben. Who’s stats are more precise? I have been following the stats from the Times, but noticed some big discrepencies from Maxprep. Seems like the reporters stats would be more accurate since they were at each game. Thanks again

Two good points here.
Joe, I tend to lean towards the stuff you see in the paper for exactly the reason you said. I know who’s doing those. Sometimes there are discrepancies, but I do tend to lean toward the reporter. I do know of some schools that just input what was in the paper, which is OK as well. Really, it depends on the team.
Renegades, yeah, I remember that play. There have been a couple this year that have been really close in terms of pass/run. The guy who does the MaxPreps stats for DLS is really good, and we match up about 99% of the time. We talk often throughout the course of a game. There are going to be instances where we diverge a little, but in looking at his stats and at mine, we’re pretty close to matching. So, I feel pretty good about those.
I remember the SM play you’re talking about. It’s actually still credited as a pass on MaxPreps (as it is in my stats too). At some point, I’ll have to check out the film myself. I remember thinking it could’ve gone either way, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a run. Hopefully I’ll get that checked out before the end of the season.

You can change stats months later? That opens up a whole can of worms.

EBAL Fan #2, I’m actually the opposite. I really stick to my guns with my stats. But, if I see conclusive video evidence that I was wrong, I think it’s probably better to make the change. It’s not the World Cup around here. We embrace instant replay.

Sorry fellas but you blew it logans miles long should be on this list. I always considered we guys to be accurate with stats but yins blew this one.
October 26th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Is it that miles long of logan high school is only a sophmore the reason he is not on the rushing list.pls correct error completely unfair to over look such a hard working young player. He should be recognised. Last week could have rushed for 300+ yrds one 80 yarder called back.

Yeah, Miles Long shouldn’t be on this EBAL list anyway, but he ought to make the all-names team. What a great name!
October 26th, 2010 at 9:22 pm
