OAL playoff breakdown

The Oakland Athletic League playoffs are pretty simple, with three playoffs spots already decided, including the top two seeds.

McClymonds (9-0, 4-0) is the regular season champion and the top seed and will host the No. 4 seed at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20 in the first round of the playoffs. Skyline (3-6, 3-1) is the No. 2 seed and will also host a first round game.

Fremont (4-5, 2-2) and Oakland Tech (4-4, 2-2) are both tied for third place. Fremont is favored in its game Saturday against Castlemont, while Tech is a considerable underdog against McClymonds. If those games go as expected, Fremont will earn the third seed and play Skyline and Tech will turn right around and play McClymonds in back-to-back weeks.

Castlemont (1-7, 1-3) still has a chance to pull even with Fremont and Tech if it could upset the Tigers. That, along with Tech losing to Mack, would cause a three-way tie for the final two playoffs spots. However if Castlemont beat Fremont and Tech were to upset Mack, Tech would get the third seed and Castlemont the fourth seed.

In the event of the three-way tie for those two spots, I believe all the tie-breakers would cancel out. Each team would be 1-1 against the others, they’d all have lost to the two teams above them and have beaten the team below them. That would mean a coin toss would decide which two teams get in.

My guess is that scenario doesn’t play out and Fremont beats Castlemont and Mack beats Tech. I’d also venture Skyline beats Oakland, although that won’t affect the seedings.

My predicted field: No. 4 Oakland Tech at No. 1 McClymonds; No. 3 Fremont at No. 2 Skyline.

Silver Bowl prediction – Fremont vs Mack. Mack wins going away, Peters runs wild to solidify his standing as the best athlete in the OAL, and Mack’s defense doesn’t give the impressive Sanford much room to create things for the Tigers.

Other than Mack why are we even talking about the OAL ?

Well it looks like Mack will run away with this thing, but I would love to see my Tech Bulldogs get a big upset victory eventhough they are a very young team. but you never know, they have the best chance at beating them in my opinion.
