  13. HS Football Fan Says:

O’Dowd won 47-17. Two 2nd round games are set – San Rafael at Marin Catholic and Cardinal Newman at Bishop O’Dowd.

  14. Big Dog Says:

I’ll take Newman and Marin Catholic next week.

  15. FireStarter Says:

YV’s loss is most certainly BOD’s gain! Congrats and good luck in round 2! Go Dragons!!

  16. dval fan Says:

turner did for bod like he did for yv a year ago great coach kids missed him gave alot of respect before the game

  17. mytwocents Says:

Eureka will have a very very tough job driving 6 hrs to “Nailhouse swamp”
to play Encinal Jets. It was a nightmare Friday night vs Novato not only
because of the rain but the wind and mud was insane.Sorry Eureka but your
going to find out how long St. Mary’s drive back home was.

  18. PERKIN Says:

Any thoughts on the San Rafael vs MC matchup SR have a chance? They haven’t lost a game on the field yet.

  19. Nailhouse For Life Says:

San Marin takes care of Alhambra… WOW! Don’t count out Eureka against Encinal. Eureka is a very good team that can handle Encinal with size and power!

  20. Nailhouse For Life Says:

But I like my Jets! NAILHOUSE!

  21. Scl alum Says:

Eureka-Encinal’s gonna be an awesome game

  22. Reggia Hammond Says:

Can the D-III committee formally apologize for a terrible bracket. All those props to the DFAL & Miramonte & ALahambra specifically turned out to be average teams playing average teams & one good team.

  23. Reggie Hammond Says:

Alahamrba losing to a solid not great D-IV team should have kept them behind BOD & obviously now Miramonte’s win over Alhamrba is not better then EHS ‘s over St. Pats.

  24. Hey Says:

Alameda High continues its non-playoff win streak. how sad.

  25. FirstDown Says:

logan, deer valley, and freedom all lost for the d1 playoff bracket.

  26. Loggerfaithful Says:

    17 MytwoCents- You’re kidding right?
It was 40 degrees with pouring rain and wind at our game. The field had standing water and mud patches. We love November football and our boys are used to the weather.
    Eureka/Encinal should be a good match-up.

  27. Football Fan Says:

Who won the Casa Grande vs. American game?

  28. footballfan Says:

Casa won…..Eureka will be slipping and sliding all the way to the endzone, lol…let’s hope the home team players aren’t on the chain gang like last night, haha. Is that even allowed? ;)

  29. mytwocents Says:

Logger, actually your right both teams are where they are because they fought to get there. We had same conditions based on what you said about your game plus our field
is muddy, slippery and right next to the Bay.We have a high powered offense with more speed than you will have seen in years and an offense that averaged 470 yards per game during the regular season will be looking forward to Friday.

  30. hsfootball fan Says:

who is No. 69 of pinole that is a big kid went to game tonight saw him standing next to Finney (21) they were the same hight. Anyone know this kid.

  31. HS Football Fan Says:

Alright, so the second round is set:

    D-I

Heritage (9) at De La Salle (1)
College Park (13) at Granada (5)
    Berkeley (7) at California (2)
San Ramon Valley (6) at Monte Vista (3)

    D-II

Maria Carrillo (8) at Concord (1)
Northgate (5) at Casa Grande (4)
Washington (7) at Pinole Valley (2)
Clayton Valley (11) at Rancho Cotate (3)

    D-III

San Rafael (8) at Marin Catholic (1)
    Eureka (5) at Encinal (4)
    Cardinal Newman (2) at Bishop O’Dowd (7)
San Marin (11) at Miramonte (3)

    D-IV

Fort Bragg (8) at Healdsburg (1)
El Molino (5) at Middletown (4)
    St. Patrick/St. Vincent (2) at Ferndale (7)
    Fortuna (6) at Salesian (3)

All in all, not too many upsets in the first round…

  32. QB01 Says:

    Reggie Hammond:

This is a portion of the article in tomorrow’s CC Times:

The Bulldogs were without the services of star running back and linebacker Jared Leaf. The senior, a unanimous two-way first-team all-Diablo Foothill Athletic League selection, injured his right ankle in last week’s loss to Miramonte and was unable to play.

“You don’t want to take anything away from San Marin,” Hern said. “But he’s our MVP. It doesn’t help when you don’t have your best guy.”

  33. Triton8 Says:

i haven’t read why…..but does anyone know why St Pats has to travel to a lower seed?

  34. ArmstrongJets Says:

St pat has to travel because they are not league champs. I think it’s the same for cardinal newman traveling to bod

  35. Reggie Hammond Says:

So basically you’re saying their whole team relies on one player. Then the committee should have took that into their rankings also.

  36. Prepfan2 Says:

well the EBAL pretty much didn’t get “upset” by the BVAL as many predicted. Deer Valley had problems with the rain, Freedom threw away 2 chances to beat a mediocre Granada team that has played uninspired football the past 2 weeks, and DLS will be DLS and California will be California. Foothill had a good season but wasn’t ready for the playoffs, like most teams league champs, i.e. Pittsburg and Logan.

According to Kyle Bonagura, I would pin Heritage the legitimate #4 seed having avenged the loss to Pittsburg, however that loss cost them that opportunity.

Be nice to see the former BVAL meetings when Heritage in its second year faced DLS and said This is A teaching Moment. DLS has no problems to the finals.

SRV/MV most intriguing matchup aside from the way Cal-Berkeley sounds, and we’re not talking Big Game lol. A lot of MV players on that Stanford team shows how talented they’ve been. I think another close game in Danville and whoever the winner to give San Ramon’s city school Cal High a big game of their own.

EBAL vs EBAL finals, tbd. Monte Vista may even show up after the slow beginnings to the season they’ve envisioned? SRV next season, saying they wanted state this preseason was very premature especially fora junior inexperienced Cal Golden Bears-committed QB. but he will learn, NCS is where you gain it.

Peace. All League Division one semi’s sounds kind of boring anyway, let’s see the Catholic schools in D-3 haha Encinal can take all of them.

  37. buzz kill Says:

wow divsion 3 is the divsion … just look at the match ups..

  38. Scl alum Says:

Very intriguing Cal-Berkeley game next weekend. LOL. Anybody know if they’ve faced off in football before?

  39. Encinal=OVERRATED Says:

“We have a high powered offense with more speed than you will have seen in years and an offense that averaged 470 yards per game during the regular season will be looking forward to Friday.”

AND A MEDIOCRE NOVATO HELD YOU TO 234 YARDS OF TOTAL OFFENSE, HAHAHAHAHAHAH!Eureka will skin yall alive, lol!

  40. footballfan415 Says:

Perkin- San Rafael had the weakest schedule in the history of mankind, so they really havent been tested yet….we wont know what this SR team is till they face MC….also read SR best playmaker Diego Camarillo hurt his hamstring, hopefully hes okay and can play then they can stay competitive in the game…..without him its not going to be pretty

  41. KillerD Says:

    Let’s see:

I chose 10 of 17 games correctly for yesterdays playoff games, not bad.

But my pick to win D5 CSD Fremont lost, so that is out.

WATCH OUT for Eureka………..repeat Watch OUT for Eurekaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  42. KillerD Says:

There is a BIG difference between Healdsburg the Top Seed in D4 and St. Patricks this year.

FERNDALE wins BIG, BIG BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG vs. St. Pats.

  43. KillerD Says:

Casa Grande looking good and will defeat Northgate

  44. outsider Says:

For all the EBAL haters. Started out Division 1 playoffs with 6 EBAL teams out of 15 teams total. Now is 5 EBAL teams out of 8 teams total. Might be 4 EBAL out of 4 teams total for semis. All league champions are gone except DLS.

  45. Scl alum Says:

Killer, what are your thoughts on El Molino-Middletown next weekend?

  46. Scl alum Says:

    *KillerD-oops

  47. HS Football Fan Says:

One thing’s for sure, the DFAL has had an underwhelming postseason. If the committee is going to play favorites and allow all but one of your teams into the playoffs (including your last place team), you probably should repay them by having more than just your league champion win in the first round.

Wouldn’t it be cool if they moved the Cal/Berkeley game to Memorial Stadium?

  48. Scl alum Says:

Yeah, HS FB Fan, the DFAL, except Miramonte, has been a bum deal. I feel bad for Alhambra, who wasn’t at full strength without Leaf. But the coulda, shoulda, woulda’s..unfortunately injuries are one of those tough realities in football..

  49. FirstDown Says:

congrats to the ebal for winning their games yesterday. it’s just amazing that the commitee put the best 2 of the bval (heritage and pitt) against each other for the first round. then whoever wins gets dela. hmmm… makes you think. good luck to all the teams in the second round. i’m hoping heritage makes a game out of it, and somewhat be competitive. would have love to see how heritage and pitt would have done against the other ebal teams such as srv, mv, cal. granada would have gotten whooped by heritage and pitt.

logan’s young team was not ready for the playoffs. that’s what happens playing in a weak league. a team gets hyped up and players stack up their stats, but when faced with a real decent team, outcome is different. just look at their schedule. when they faced foothill and heritage they lost those games. they will be good next year since all of their key players are returning. they will have more experience. good luck to them.

  50. outsider Says:

That BVAL bracket in the first round was too bad. If Pitt wasn’t hyped so much and Heritage given more creedence then the seedings would have been more like Pitt seeded 11 and Heritage seeded 8 which would have split them up.

  51. Old Former Meddling Coach. Says:

Encinal=OVERRATED #39 ,I respect intelligent opinions but come on. It was raining and both teams had trouble because of it. Kinda hard to run the ball when you are slipping and we did win by 3 scores. Novato was game and never quit. We were just the better team friday night. But overated? No, we just won the games that we won by being the better team on gameday. The Loggers are not coming down here to lose but we will play our game and impose our will on them and win. Jet Pride!

  52. Scl alum Says:

Old Former Meddling Coach, you guys looking forward to playing Eureka next weekend?

  53. Scl alum Says:

I know the Loggers/ the Logger Nation are pumped to be playing Encinal

  54. Eureka Fan Says:

Encinal is going to impose their will on the Loggers? That’s a joke right? If Encinal is to win, it’s because their speed pops a couple long plays, not because they push the Loggers around. This wil be the most physical game Encinal has played all year.

  55. MV Alum Says:

Heritage shot itself on the foot with the loss to Pitt if they win that game they are a 3-4 seed but the loss put them behind Pitt who lost to MV and Foothill do the best they could do was a 7-8 and Heritage had to be placed behind them

  56. Eureka Loggers Says:

Eureka will punch Encinal right in the mouth friday! Encinal will impose their will on the loggers? You guys don’t know what your in for we are a phiscal team that aint scared of a over rated team with speed. This will be the best team you guys played all year we aint no novato!

  57. Loggerfaithful Says:

I am looking forward to the game.
Both teams have similar stats. The rushing and passing yards are seperated by 20 yards. Eureka gaining the additional yards on the ground and Encinal by the air.
Keep in mind Eureka played 2 fewer games becuase of Arcata dropping football in late August.
Obvisously the advantage goes to the Jets playing at home. That said, the field condition won’t bother Eureka because it sounds like our fields are identical.
    Good Luck Friday!

  58. Triton8 Says:

somethin tells me that Serra is just as physical as Eureka? If Eureka is so physical, how did Del Norte and Shasta…two powers I guess?….beat them? Should be a good game I’m sure. Speed vs power…..you ever seen #65 for the Jets? I think most people would say he is powerful…..watch as he caves in half of the Eureka DL delicately, I guess? And look real close as a little RB pops out in the defensive backfield…and check him out in the endzone! Watch real close though…because if you blink, you’ll miss it! Do You can’t simulate that speed or pace in your practices this week either. Good luck to both teams….and lets hope for clear skies and a hard field!

  59. Prep Fan Says:

I agree that the BVAL brought this onto themselves, allowing a team that went 0-5 in the preseason to run the table in league play. Most of us predicted Pitt to be seeded below the EBAL teams since they lost to both Foothill and MV, in addition to having lost to Berkeley. Had Pitt gone 4-1 or even 3-2 in the preseason, they likely would have gotten a much better seeding as would have the rest of the BVAL teams. There was no by no means a conspiracy by the NCS committee to put Pitt in DLS’ bracket for the first time since 2004, it is just how it worked out due to their miserable preseason.

  60. Triton8 Says:

LoggerFaithful……I would actually say that our field favors your team. Obviously, the busride sucks….but our crap field will hurt our speed advantage…..

  61. KillerD Says:

Scl Alum……..to answer your query, I am picking MIDDLEtown to beat El Molino

  62. Loggerfaithful Says:

Triton-You’re right Eureka lost 2 close games. Against Shasta 41-48, it came down to turnovers which we all know can kill you. Eureka fumbled. It was a game that went back and forth in the last quarter, Shasta scoring three TDs to Eureka’s two.
Del Norte was a 43-49 loss in double overtime. Games are won on the field and that is why we play the games.

  63. Scl alum Says:

I remember last year, when Eureka lost two early preseason games to halfway decent Pleasant Valley and Shasta, and then Eureka realed out 12 straight (convincing)wins. Yeah, the Loggers may lose a game or two in the preseason, or early in league this season, but they really know how to kick it into high gear in the postseason. That said, the Encinal game is going to be a true battle..

  64. ArmstrongJets Says:

The team looked very similar but I think the jets win.

The jets also kick it into high gear during the playoff. The only loss one game in the last two ncs runs. We will see who wants it more.

    Go jets!

  65. mytwocents Says:

Just went through the Logger roster and website as I do like to know a little something if I plan to speak on it.Lets assume I have a little knowledge of football (which I do) and start with, your team roster shows some big kids…Advantage Loggers.I have heard your field is as screwed up as ours so thats a draw in regards to field conditions.Your loss to Del Norte (4-6) 43-49 and your win against same team 26-15 are skeptical.Del Norte got manhandled by a weak Fortuna team 2x this year. The Jets lost to a then ranked #14 team in the State against Serra High, this was a game that Encinal controlled the first half in the 90 degree heat with a 22 man roster.I am sure the Loggers do not match up pound for pound with Serra and we pushed them all over the field.ANYWAY….if the Loggers bring their “A”game and the Jets bring theirs you lose…one thing forsure is you will feel a wicked fast pace at every facet of the game so do not blink. If the field would have been dry Friday against Novato we would have beaten them by 40.Bad news for you guys is weather report says clear Wed.Thurs Friday…

Have a nice trip we will be waiting.

  66. KillerD Says:

According to CalPreps the Jets are Underdogs for the first time since Serra game to open the season.

    Eureka or Encinal?

I will give you my pick by Friday morning maybe earlier, lots of crunching to do.

  67. Scl alum Says:

All the Eureka High alums that currently live and /or are visiting family in the Bay Area Thanksgiving should go out and support the Logger team this Friday night. Figures to be a great game between two solid programs..

  68. nfl Says:

scl alum for us in the bay area tell us what players to look for on friday from the loggers?

  69. Scl alum Says:

Look for Faulk (no. 10), Wilkinson (34), even De Martini (15) to score some Logger TD’s.

  70. mytwocents Says:

In all seriousness, Good luck Loggers. I am excited to even be in this position to play as most High School teams are at home reading about it.Have a safe trip and we want the very best Logger team to show up Friday so we can find out who will go to Marin to upset the all world team that nobody thinks that either one of us can beat.

  71. Scl alum Says:

Any score predictions on the Marin Cath./San Rafael game?

  72. bulldogforever Says:

It was reported in the CCT that the cause of the Alhambra Bulldog’s demise was the fumbles at the snap by our QB, and the absence of RB and LB Jared Leaf. Not so. None of the lost snaps (or 2 other fumbles)resulted in points by San Marin.

But, they did score points when our coach went for it on fourth down in our own territory in the second quarter (score 7-0), we didn’t make it and then San Marin scored a TD on a short field. Score 14-0 San Marin.

We scored 2 TD’s to make it 14-12 San Marin. Late in the fourth quarter, San Marin was on our 30 yard line, 1st and 10. For some reason, our coach called a goal line defense, which meant that everyone was on the line, and there were no safeties. San Marin saw that right away, and on their 2nd down, called a fake run up the middle and then the QB rolled left and his receiver was wide open in the left side of the end zone. Luckily for Alhambra, the pass was off target and incomplete. Did we change our defense, since San Marin recognized the opportunity? No, we didn’t. On fourth and 8, still no safeties, San Marin faked the run and sent their receivers to the end zone. TD, end of the game for Alhambra as San Marin was 9 points ahead with the PAT.

We greatly missed Leaf, but Alex Mitchell was running rings around San Marin. 73 yards on only 5 carries. Why did Mitchell only have 5 carries on a cold and wet night when passing was difficult? Why did playmaker extraordinaire WR Trevor Davis only have the ball in his hands on offense 3 times? If you know you are not going to have Leaf play, then you should make strong efforts to get Davis involved.

    I don’t understand coaches.

  73. KillerD Says:

Hey Bulldogforever…………..STTTOOOP trashtalking, backstabbing your Football Coaches, thereby making you and your ilk look like morons and idiots and whiners, and worse yet, your idiotic comments Only serve to make your OUTSTANDING ALHAMBRA FOOTBALL program diminish.

What you SHOULD be doing is Thanking the coaches for getting your team into the playoffs and having a chance to WIN the league title vs. Miramonte.

    Idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  74. observer Says:

I saw CN in person against Campolindo, and I was seriously unimpressed by both teams. CN is very small and very slow, at least in the rain at home. Campo was small, slow AND undisciplined.

It was a battle of very weak teams that night. I think CN goes down to O’Dowd without question.

  75. football_fan926 Says:

so adam nesheim wasnt that good after all huh? and you were bragging all summer long about how good he was gonna be at alhambra and how dumb yv is for letting him go..looks like he couldnt even hold on to a snap.

  76. ArmstrongJets Says:

Any progress on the Final BSAL Stats..

I would think someone would be accountable or are the Final BSAL stats just forgotten.

  77. bulldogforever Says:

To Killer D- Your assessment is incorrect, and your conclusion wrong.

To Football Fan 926- I still think that Nesheim is a very good quarterback. I congratulate YV on their great year, and I hope that YV’s Grant Jones can make it to Division I to continue playing.

San Marin and Miramonte, the teams that just beat us these last two weeks, are facing each other in the next playoff game. San Marin has great play calling, makes few mistakes, and has a deceptively good passing game for a team that averages 75 yards passing per game. Miramonte also has great play calling, their defense has the best tackling in the league, and they have a quick strike passing capability. San Marin is more ball control, and Miramonte more of a scoring team. I favor Miramonte in the game, primarily on their tackling, their ability to put points on the board, and Ross Anderson being a double threat rushing and passing.

  78. jp lose Says:

this is what you get when almost every team in the area can make playoffs bad games non inspired play. bad match ups hope the 2nd round is better and the weather that didn’t help at all. but the ebal is starting to prove to be the dominate league this year
other leagues need to step there game up mval and bval where are you?

  79. footballfan415 Says:

scl alum- MC vs SR game is going to really depend if Diego Camarillo plays for SR. If hes out to his hamstring injury it will be tough for SR to score on MC, but if he plays it could be a close game. 28-6 MC is my prediciton

  80. KillerD Says:

To BullDogForever…………I did NOT asses anything, I had to suffer through your lame posting that served to do NOTHING but stab your coaching staff in the back.

My take on your scribble was 100% accurate. Grow up!

And this is the last time I respond to your quibble

  81. FirstDown Says:

@ Jp Lose – heritage is still in the playoffs for at least this week. representing bval.

  82. Scl alum Says:

Who do you guys see in the State Bowl open division this year?

  83. BVAL Expert Says:

JP lose- Your an idiot, BVAL is the 2nd strongest league in the NCS buddy.. They already have showen up, Four teams strong made the playoffs.. EBAL had trouble beating BVAL teams this year.. Barely winning against them.. Leave the BVAL out of this..

  84. buzz kill Says:

DLS VS The winner of the Pac 5…. or centenial…
I think Grants strengh of schedule is not as good as DLS… PLUS i think due to grant coaches declining not wanting to play DLS.. they should go.. DLS IS not scared tp play NOBODY… NOodyy… grant is..

  85. Scl alum Says:

Killer D, do you have a score prediction for Healdsburg-Fort Bragg game Fri night?

  86. mytwocents Says:

Happy to say Jet fans that we will be at full strength Friday vs Eureka. The weather report calls for a “fast track”and we know Eureka is bringing a very good team, they have a big line on both sides of the ball, good running backs and play hard nose ball.
We are focused on one thing….EXECUTION…we know you guys are good but so are we….LETS TALK ON THE FIELD…

  87. bulldogforever Says:

Killer D, this is getting interesting. I must have hit a sore spot for you. Your vitriol is matched only by your hypersensitivity. And you can’t be bothered with giving me a cogent argument, so you resort to name calling and then running away.

FYI, I wasn’t attacking the coach, I was defending the players. Our coach was quoted, in the paper, blaming our QB Nesheim for our season ending loss. I defended Nesheim in my post, and supported my assertion with my observations of the game that pointed the reasons for the loss in another direction. I have been 100% in support of our coach all year long. Had our coach not publicly blamed Nesheim, I would have said nothing.

If you disagree with my observations of the game, tell me where I am wrong.

  88. KillerD Says:

SclAlum………..to answer your question about the Healdsburg vs. Fort Bragg game, a good one indeed upcoming.

Healdsburg 33 vs. Fort Bragg 14

  89. bulldogforever Says:

This blogging is too much for me. This is my first time and my last time blogging. I don’t seem to have the same filter from my head to my fingers that I have from my head to my mouth. Something that seems to make sense when you write it isn’t palatable later. I apologize to both Killer D and Coach Hern.

Killer D, Yo Mama, Football Fan926, you’re AOK with me. SCL Alum, you’re first class all the way.

With QB John Miller coming back next year, plus some big players from JV, Alhambra could have a very good year next year.

Good luck to both Miramonte and San Marin this weekend. May the best team win.

Bulldogforever is out forever. I’ll enjoy reading, and I’ll also enjoy not saying anything.

    Thanks everyone.

  90. footballfan415 Says:

Bulldog good luck to your mystery player who has a secret scholarship to Texas to play football that no one else in the United States knows about…….Texas is recruiting their first unranked player in the Mack Brown era and they went to Martinez, Ca to find him

  91. Scl alum Says:

    Bulldog Forever,

One thing about this h.s. football sports blog, is that it’s at heart a fun forum to talk high school ball, teams, coaches, in some cases, old home towns (my self included). The reality is, with the nature of the beast, is that there ARE people who blog out of mean-spiritedness, although fortunately they’re more in the minority. Most of us in here are here to have fun. You kinda have to roll with some of the punches in here. I’ve experienced bloggers in here who don’t like me/ some of my comments, but you shrug it off and move on..

That said, don’t be a stranger to this blog site.

  92. KillerD Says:

To Bulldogforever, thanks for the recant, no problem. And don’t quit blogging, but let your Fingers do the Thinking, it works better mostly but EVERY one of us that has Ever Emailed or Blogged has Errored, so not to worry.

    Eureka or Encinal…….Eurrrreeeeekaaaa or Encinaaaaaaaalll????

    Hmmmmm…………………………………?

  93. Scl alum Says:

Man, that’s gonna be a war. I’d have to admit, though that with the 6 hour road trip factor / home game for the Jets, that Encinal will probably prevail. I figure an overtime affair on this one..

  94. Loggerfaithful Says:

Yes we have the bus ride, but I think we will be able to run the ball effectively.
I am looking forward to the match up. Encinal has been in the championship game the last 2 years.

Eureka dominated opponents last year through the championship. We returned several skill players;Qb, rbs, receiver, dbs, kicker with a big leg.
OL/DL players have worked hard all year.

  95. mytwocents Says:

I have seen Eureka on disc and they are big…they have good running backs and a bit of a swagger due to the fact that they are the 2009 DII champs.Up North they do things different and rely heavily on the run and ball control game (which their good at).BUT…..Encinal will BE AT FULL STRENGTH meaning we had starters missing the past couple of games but it looks like we will field the same team that we fielded against Serra in our only loss of the year.ANYONE who was there would tell you we controlled the first half of the game and Serra has a big team AND SPEED which is something Eureka does not.Encinal will win because we have a better team…PERIOD.

Our team speed will be something that the Loggers won’t be use to.They will have heard about how fast we are and even prepared for it but when it hits you….ONLY THEN DO YOU KNOW WHAT EVRYONE MEANT BY “FAST”.

They will not be able to stop our offense but will get frustrated trying to do so.

Eureka likes to onside their KICKS….good luck, give a team like the Jets great field position ? Just hope one of our FAST guys on the line doesn’t return your kick for a T.D.

The Loggers look solid and will bring some big hits, but we bring big hits also and have guys that will sacrifice their bodies to do so.

They have okay receivers we have great DB’s, Jr. Quarterback Andrew Ve’e has a decent arm and good receivers in Bo Banks 6’1 170 (kick off and punt return specialist) and
    Devanyo Bills 6’2 180.

Our running back stable is solid led by BSAL MVP Jonathon Allen also sharing duties with Jon Trodder and Paul Okamura.

The Jets have 7 guys that can sway the outcome of the game single handedly.

BSAL MVP LINEMAN 6’6 365lb Josh Marrow is back in the lineup to help get the offense
that averaged 470 yards per game back on track.

Throw in homefield and the long drive and weather report of clear skies on wed.thurs.fri. along with the fastest drying field in the Bay Area and I really really like our chances.

    go Jets

Yeah, my ideal would be Eureka-Marin Catholic 1st wkd in December, but, broken record, NCS Div III is unreal this year!

  97. KillerD Says:

    Eureka
    Encinal

    Encinal
    Eureka

    ?????

I am ALMOST ready to make my prediction

  98. Scl alum Says:

    lol

  99. Trojan Says:

Encinal/Eureka is cleary the game of the week in my opinion. I honestly have no idea who is going to win but I will be making the trip fro Petaluma to Alameda to watch it. After that I can travel down 101 to Kentfield to watch Marin Catholic/San Rafael Saturday afternoon. And wrap up the day by heading over to the east side of Petaluma to watch Casa Grande/Northgate. Should be a great weekend.

  100. Scl alum Says:

Old Former Meddling Coach, what are your insights on Encinal-Eureka Friday night?

  101. Eureka Loggers Says:

Encinal aint ready for a team like us. We have respect for you guys but I know my team and we hit hard and play hard no matter if its raining, dry, or snow. We dont care about you guys playing against serra if you guys dont remember you LOST that game. Fools! All you jet fans trust me we will be ready to take this game away from them.

  102. Scl alum Says:

A little off topic, but anybody see (#18)Nevada pulling off an upset at home against Boise State Friday night?

  103. FB Guru Says:

After Encinal caught Serra off guard and scored on their initial drive they got out scored 42-6. Serra was 4th place in their league and in the bottom half of the CCS playoffs and has been eliminated. They finished 6-4-1 and they are turning in their equipment today. If I were an Encinal fan I’d drop the talk about Serra.

  104. Loggerfaithful Says:

Trojan- I like your weekend itinerary. Have a great time watching high school football! You should see some awesome games.

  105. KillerD Says:

The Official Weather Forecast is for RAIN, RAIN and more Raaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin til Friday.

Jet field will be Soggy, Muddy, soupy and nasty.

    Eureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeka or Encinaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal?

I will Post my Pick later today.

PS – Boise will beat Nevada but it will be close

  106. Loggerfaithful Says:

twocents- I just looked at the BSAL stats that are posted on the other thread. I don’t know anything about your running back Jonathon Allen that you say is BSAL MVP, but the stats have him listed third with
83 carries/954 yards/11.5 avg/14 TD. Yes those are good numbers. He leads in avg & TDs. I don’t know how your league chooses MVP either.
Our top running back has similar numbers.

I will say it again it will be a great game.

  107. Trojan Says:

Scl Alum – yeah should be a great weekend of football. The only thing that could potentially diminish it would be if it rains (and it’s supposed to). As much as I enjoy live football, I dislike sitting in the rain more.

I expect Boise St. to roll Nevada. Not only are they the superior team, but they need to make a statement. A win likely vaults them over TCU, but they need to win big if they hope to pass Auburn, should Auburn lose one of their next two games. If Boise wins 28-24 and Auburn loses to Alabama, I could see an argument for having Auburn in the BCS Championship Game. I don’t like it and disagree, but I expect it would actually work out that way.

  108. Reggie Hammond Says:

Logger fans come on you lost to a pretty weak DelNorte team & let them put 40 + points on you. You also laid an egg to Shasta after you were probably on your high horse about beating Castlemont & Piner. Say what you want about Serra their 4 losses were to VC twice, Bellarmine, & DLS all ranked top 5 for a bowl birth in Northern Cali. They did their thing to us but I don’t think you’re nearly as good as them. They’re faster, deeper, & run a better O & D then you.

We’re ready & I don’t think you’ve seen team speed like ours we’ve definitely played against big slow teams like yours. You guys were talking a lot early in the year until you lost. Then after the Del Norte game haven’t heard a peep out of you. So have a nice drive up & see you Friday.

  109. Eureka Loggers Says:

Trust me after those two losses we are a better and much differnt team. Your leagues MVP Allen doesnt have the numbers of a MVP. That tells me alot and how good you guys really think he is. You jet fans better watch out and get humble before you get a rude awakening

  110. mytwocents Says:

My gut instincts are to argue with you Logger fans etc.but Im not…..Lets take the facts…We both play a different brand of football…..we both have different pools of kids to choose from….we have different coaching…we both have big numbers regarding controlling and moving the ball on offense and we both think our team will win….we are a faster team..you are a bigger team….our record is 10-1 yours is 7-2..We are playing at Nailhouse and you have to drive 6 hours….two good teams only one can win.

    best of luck

  111. KillerD Says:

Working my way up it’s probably very unpopular here in my beloved East Bay with my next two picks, and one of those picks Contradicts my beat-the-drum repeatedly choice of a projected Division Champion.

But I digress and please do not skip ahead and just read patiently, thank you for doing so.

    Fortuna at Salesian:

The homey choice is the Chieftains from Richmond, and Coach Nightengale has done a very good job, including a very impressive win vs. an outstanding Middletown team in a wild shoot’em up totaling more than 100-points combined. Great feather-in-the caps win for Salesian.

BUT, But, buuuuut… FORTUNA beat West Valley of Cottonwood (a good D-2 team) and they also beat powerhouse Ferndale, and they beat a D-3 Del Norte ——–twice. Fortuna has a much tougher strength of schedule than Salesian, much tougher. The Rain should not bother Fortuna, as rumor has it that all of their Husky players skip merrily to school each day shirtless even during the most torrential daily downpours in the throes of December! Tough kids.

When push comes to shove, physicality becomes a key issue in real trench warfare and on the gridiron too. Fortuna can SHOVE with the best of them and my gut tells me that Salesian is more of a Push type of team laced with speed.

It will be a Far Northwest Semi-final between Fortuna and Ferndale next week.

Prediction: FORTUNA 29 vs. Salesian 20

The word EUREKA has its origin in Greek and is taken from the word heurēka. This expression is supposed to be exclaimed by Archimedes when he discovered the way to measure the volume of an uneven solid. This method of Archimedes was then used to find out the purity of Gold objects. The heuriuskein means “to find.” Thus, the exclamation Eureka means I have found (it). Today, this exclamation is widely used often in a humorous way.

The word ENCINAL on the other hand, means a “Live Oak Grove” a strong, stately and truly impressive throng full of strength, beauty and splendor, also something that cannot be easily moved or destroyed.

The Matchup – Eureka at Encinal:

Eureka must travel but that point should be muted, as they must travel far to play many of their games. They dusted away with Piner and Castlemont and then lost a very close game to a very good Shasta team that was a D-1 playoff team coached by former Granada Coach, Aaron Gingery – a great coach that runs an excellent program.

They won and lost to Del Norte. But the THREE games that Grab my complete attention are the Dual Victories against Fortuna – Eureka beat them easily twice. And the one brutal smack down of a Petaluma team that beat D-2 playoff team Windsor. Eureka obviously possesses a great football tradition and recent Championship team last year. Many of those players returned this year and even without their great Bulldozing Tailback, the Loggers are a very good football team instilled with a nasty and merciless streak towards their unlucky opponents.

Encinal likewise is a team on a terrific Three-year run, a span of victories unequaled for the most part in its storied football history. They lost some incredible NCAA D-1 playmakers from the 2008 and 2009 teams, but have managed to reload many weapons of high caliber.

The great discrepancy I find however; is in the strength of schedule and the playoff draw. IF this were the Finals I would have a very hard time picking Encinal to lose this game because this less-experienced team with not Quite the talent level they’ve had recently, would have then successfully run the Gauntlet again all the way to the championship game.

But as we know, what a difference a year makes and it does matter to the Jets as well.

I respect greatly each program, and the Jets WERE my initial pick to Win it ALL in D-3 this year.

But, times do change things, and this time the Clock will Stop for the Jets.

Prediction: EUREKA 30 vs. Encinal 17

  112. mytwocents Says:

I noticed your best back Jeff Faulk wasn’t playing after getting chopped a few times early in the game last week against Petaluma is he injured ?

All well said KillerD you have to appreciate a person that thinks things through I also like the history lesson.

Were in the business of making believers and right now business is booming,

    see ya on the field

  114. football415 Says:

i saw that Eureka vs Shasta game, they are both good teams that hit hard and run their offenses well……but i think Eureka can be a bit leaky on defense at times and this will come to the forefront versus Encinal as they just need that little crease and BOOM they are gone…i think Eureka will move the ball on Encinal and score some points but will come up a bit short against Encinal 35-28 Encinal is my prediction

  115. Loggerfaithful Says:

Faulk is fine. We also have many players who can run the ball.

  116. Eureka Loggers Says:

Encinal dont worry about our guy Faulk. He will be ready. You guys are ok but a bit over rated to me.

  117. mytwocents Says:

    Let me clarify…

    1. Your right our team is not very humble…. 2. Jon Allen does have only 954 yards in 83 carries for a 11.5 ave….that is a first down every carry…3. Weather forecast for here is clear wed thurs fri. 4. Having other backs is great we know we have them but Faulk is hard to replace. 5.We do not think were over rated…we think were under rated… its going to be a great game (for us).

  118. KillerD Says:

Duty (wife is calling me now) calls gentlemen.

Good luck to all of the teams this weekend as I veer away now to find a 30-lb. Turkey for Thursday.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

  119. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

Logger fans. I want to say that your team is respected and not taken lightly at all. As far as Encinal being overrated it is just the oposite. We never seem to get the respect we deserve. Yes the kids are spirited but they should be and we want them to be. (Whoever heard of a good team that didn’t think they’d win)But we look past no one and take no one lightly. But we do expect to win. It’s not disrespect, Just Confidence in our ability to play. Jon Allen Doesn’t have a 1,000 yd season because we have at least 4 backs that all get touches. Check the yards per carry and how many carries he did have. And KillerD, I’ll be by for my plate! LOL! Jet Pride!

any prediction on the miramonte-san marin matchup?

  125. Loggerfaithful Says:

    CSparks
Actually, I have tried to be very respectful in my posts from Sat night to today. I have said all along I think it will be a good game. I think the teams have put up similar numbers.

I was not dogging the MVP all I said was I am not familiar with how your league chooses one. Many places (not BSAL?)it is a political choice not always the best player. No disrespect.

As for backfields Faulk, Wilkinson, Abbott, DeMartini, Spaight, McKenzie, Gibson, Rogers and others have all scored for the Loggers. We can move the ball and we do score a bunch. See above I stated that we have put up similar numbers. I know that Encinal and Eureka score about the same per game. We jsut had 2 fewer games to do it in.

I know we heard similar “smack talk” as you call it last year when Eureka was seeded 4th in D2 which some from the East Bay thought was wrong. Ask Pinole Ygnacio how fast and physical we were with them.

This year I have seen on this blog how Encinal was robbed by being seeded 4th. No complaints from Eureka. If anything maybe we should have been higher.
Bottom line- A team has to win 4 games in the playoffs to be the NCS Champion.

We will travel and play our best game any day in Nov or Dec. Our boys jsut want the season to keep going. I’m sure your team does as well.

Also nobody from Humboldt or Del Norte Countty has complained about the travel. We live behind the “Redwood Curtain” and travel is a way of life. Most of the talk about the travel has come from folks that live south of Sonoma County. I know I saw posts of “thankfully we don’t have the bus ride to Eureka.”
Again ask Pinole and Ygnacio about the bus ride.

Really you should visit the North Coast it is truly beautiful. We have magnificant rivers and majestic redwoods along with the Pacific Coastline.

I will say it again I am really looking forward to the game. Good Luck and may the best team win.

  126. Loggerfaithful Says:

    oops “just”
I can’t always make my fingers work the keyboard.

  127. Scl alum Says:

Is Eureka High furnishing a rooters bus for the Encinal game?

  128. Loggerfaithful Says:

KillerD- Thanks for the vote of confidence. The Loggers won’t let you down.

  129. Scl alum Says:

EastbayFBfan, I predict Miramonte to take this one 34-17..The Mats are tough this year.

  130. Loggerfaithful Says:

Scl- No rooters bus will be coming down. I think that mostly players’ families will be making the trip. Several people have been securing lodging in Alameda or close by for Friday night. Some are lucky enough to be able to visit family or friends and get a free night.
I believe I heard that the Fortuna team will try to make it to our game and support the HDN. Their match up with Salesain is Sat afternoon.

  131. ArmstrongJets Says:

Loggerfaithful – It’s good to see new blogger, even though we disagree on the outcome of the Jets – Logger game – Go Jets.

Just a reality check on the running tandem of Encinal compared to the loggers backfield. Here’s Max Prep stats of top 4 backs from both teams. Encinal pretty much beat them in every category. Almost 100 less carries, 600 more yards in less carries, Average 12 ys per carry (each carry is a first down), every back average over 10 yards per carry, the logger’s longest TD is 4 yds shorter than the Jets shortest long TD. Your top back (Faulk) had a 123 carries for less yards than J Allen in only 92 carries.

All to say, let’s not compare our backfields.

Simply Dominant, so pick your poison. Don’t pick wrong as all others have and been lambasted by the other backs!

    Max Prep Stats:

    # Athlete Name Car Yds Avg Y/G Long TD
    8 N. Paschal 46 589 12.8 58.9 65 5
    12 J. Trodder 56 632 11.29 63.2 89 9

    32 J. Allen 92 991 10.77 99.1 75 14
    238 2877 12.49 71.92 77.75 39

    10 J. Faulk 123 941 7.65 104.6 52 13

Berkeley is a solid team that took apart Logan last week. They are certainly capable of pulling an upset. Just like they have done each game this season, Cal will take the field, play hard and give their best effort. I’m sure the Jackets will come to play like they did at Logan on Friday. Plus, they’ll want some redemption for what MV did to them last year after their fantastic season up to that point. Healthy respect is right.

Thick line, disciplined but not very fast. Two good backs [10,34] and one descent reciever. Other than that wasn’t overly impressed. I think its going to be a good game but its going to come down to once again speed. Maybe i am somewhat biased but do not take this team lightly. 157. renegades10 Says:

    NCS D1 Previews:

#9 Heritage @ #1 DLS- The Pats are coming off of a big win over Pitt in a rematch of an earlier game between the two teams. But this time it was no thriller. Heritage dominated the game and I’m sure took a measure of satisfaction in beating their league champs. However, their prize is a date with DLS. These teams have matched up once before back in 2007 when DLS still played five BVAL opponents each year. It was a 56-14 victory for DLS, but it was also Heritage’s first season playing a full varsity schedule. The Pats have certainly come a long way since then, with back to back NCS D1 appearances. As matter of fact every year they have played varsity football they have made the playoffs with their first two appearances being in the lower divisions. DLS on the other hand is coming off a bye week, with their last game having been the thriller against Cal. They certainly showed some vulnerability in the 2nd half after playing a great 1st. However, Heritage has no passing game to provide a balance to a very strong rushing attack, and DLS has arguably the best run defense in the section. The curious aspect is to see how DLS comes out, if they are a bit rusty or ready to go after a disappointing finish to their last game. Either way, without the threat of a true passing game, DLS LB’s will be feasting on the Pats runners. 49-14 win for DLS.

#7 Berkeley @ #2 Cal- The Jackets overcame some struggles to take care of Logan. This year the Jackets have pretty much stayed under the radar after early losses to Freedom, MC, and league foe PV. But after last week they find themselves back into the quarters against yet another EBAL team this year, this time it’s Cal Hi. Cal has been the story of the year picked to finish as low as sixth by one publication their only loss was a close game to DLS. The team has a good head about them though and is not overlooking anyone. I don’t feel that Berkeley can score enough points offensively and will have to hope to keep down Cal’s balanced but explosive offense. If Cal scores more than 21, it’s bad news for the Jackets. 35-14 Grizz advance.

#6 SRV @ #3 MV- These two teams provided an absolute thriller at the end of the regular season, another great game in a storied rivalry that has produced some of the great classic moments in this area’s football history. The faces and names change, but the rivalry is never dead. MV has rebounded from a sluggish start thanks in part to young Jeff Lockie turning in some great performances to compliment the running of Sullas who has been the primary offensive weapon all year when playing. On the Wolves side a stout defense has kept them in many games, but the offense turned in maybe their best performance in the last meeting against MV. Zach Kline hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations heaped upon him after a great summer circuit that ended with him accepting a verbal offer from Cal. He will need to have a great game to help the Wolves upset the Mustangs. Recent history between these two teams shows the victor in the regular season wins if they meet in the post season as well. I think that holds true this year as well. Mustangs defend their turf and bragging rights with a 35-21 victory.

#13 CP @ #5 Granada- Once again, CP plays spoiler in the playoffs this time taking out #4 Foothill. CP is a physical team that will usually keep them in games. That being said, once again I think Granada will pull out a close victory. And just like I predicted last week, it will come down to one play by Atkinson III. He just always seems to break one big one and it usually provides the difference. They also have some unsung heroes in Amick, Horn, and Kearney who play a big role for Granada. While I certainly would not have predicted it at the beginning of the season, Granada will advance to the semis with a 21-14 victory.

IMHO these are the my pics for all league bloggers:

    1st team:

Renegades10 – His knowledge of east bay football is top notch! Even though he is thousands of miles away in the tundra somewhere…very knowledgeable.

KillerD – a bit opinionated, however, gets most of his picks…even tho, I disagree with KD that Cal will beat DLS in the finals..still a first teamer!

YoMama – Have not seen him around much, however his posting are full of humor and knowledge.

    2nd team:

MV Alum – bleeds black and red yet still rather objective about the EBAL.

Mandown – Consistently good, entertaining postings.

    HM:

Ben and Jimmy…heck they own this damm blog!

Happy Thanksgiving gentlemen! We’ll see you at the gridiron on Friday!

    MVPs football blogroll-
Ben Enos, Jimmy Durkin, with alumni Chase Bryson and Kyle Bonugura. What would PVS-MD-Scl-MVAl-R10-Csprk-KD-EBfb-RegE-HSfbfn-OFMC-Is2-Lgr-PF-Outs-AJ-Dad-Jun-BJ-etc. and so on do without ‘em? Be sure to renew your ANG OG paper editions- Ben and Jimmy need to get paid!
-and send a fiver in the envelope to the paperboy-dude.
Since the blog is for entertainment purposes solely, the Oscar goes to………. Chalktalk. He is the funniest poster with the most undecipherable keyboarding phrases ever that my kids help this old schooler- even though I grew up in the 94803- “get.” Hands down, funnier than all the prognosticators- although you guys have good knowledge too.

btw, Happy Thanksgiving and GATA Grizz

Wow no love for heritage what so ever. Heritage will probably lose but your so called ebal teams are also not that great this year. The only one that stands out except for dls is cal. Let’s just hope its somewhat of a game. If heritage does good, people will say dls isnt that good this year. We’ll see. Anything can happen. Gotta have hope… let’s go heritage… imagine, what IF…

1st down, none of us at Sparta are taking Heritage for granted…i believe that Heritage will come out on fire and give the Spartans a good game…The fact they brought it to PItt last week will give the boys from B wood some umph! Looking forward to a competive injury free game! See you at OO tonight everyone!

  163. MV Alum Says:

If Heritage could have beat Pitt 1st time around their a 4 seed at the least probably 3 playing at home but they put themselves in a bad spot and now we will see how they do. As far as beating other EBAL teams, they lose to DLS, Cal, and MV- either way with SRV just because of their D, beat the rest (Granada, Foothill, AV, and Livermore). Heritage is a good team and really coming up they don’t have the D yet to stop the top 3 from EBAL but they are getting there. They will be a contender for the next several years.
