  1. EB FB FAN Says:

1986 Bishop O’Dowd 6 – Cardinal Newman 0 in a bye week non-league game played at SRJC. Carleton “Scooter” Oats had a great game that night for the Dragons.

  2. hornetfan Says:

washington will beat pinole valley 31-27. was not impressed by them last week.

  3. c.sparks Says:

    PINOLE WILL WIN

  4. Eureka Loggers Says:

Washington can upset this team but Washington has to stop Pinole’s running game which is easier said than done. Pinole wins 28-24

  5. Spartan83 Says:

As I see it … the weather will play an important part in this game. Which ever way it goes (hopefully in Pinole’s favor) it should be a close scoring game.

    Let’s go Spartans!!!

  6. Spartan83 Says:

    Oh, and Hornetfan …

Were you more impressed with Pinole when they beat Alameda 41-13? If it wasn’t for Alameda’s Quarterback scoring two touchdowns between both games, your team would have only scored one time. Now, while I wasn’t happy with how Pinole played during the first round either … I was not impressed with Alameda’s play at all. In fact, they probably shouldn’t have even made the playoffs.

  7. Scl alum Says:

    Happy gameday (part 1) everybody!

  8. monarch86 Says:

Just saw the Holiday Classic’s Facebook Page looks like Cal’s left side O-line (Garwood and Pearson) were both invited to play.

  9. boysoffall Says:

Is there a list of invites to the Holiday Classic somewhere. Just a few players showing on the Facebook page. Does the invite go thru the school and coaches or direct to the players.

  63. BigJoe Says:

Yo Mama, did you walk your dog down Treat Blvd. tonite?
It’s cold out there. Ya must have told her to catch the bus back to Brentwood.

  64. Concrete17 Says:

Some SoCal scores with North-South Bowl possibilities:
    Servite 23 Crespi 0 (h)
    MIssion Viejo 17 Santa Margarita 7 (h)

    Centennial Corona 32-16 3rd qtr

  65. renegades10 Says:

CN wins 56-35 over BOD. Dragons made a spirited comeback to pull it within 14 twice after being down 42-14 in the third quarter. Still, like I said during the season BOD was a product of a really bad league. People on here thought they should have been higher than a seven seed, looks like the committee got something right. They get credit for playing hard despite being down though and to make it somewhat interesting at the end.

  66. renegades10 Says:

Encinal takes down the Loggers 35-20.

  67. Scl alum Says:

Eureka 20, Encinal 35..Great season Loggers, congrats to Old Former Meddling coach and Jets fans

  68. Concrete17 Says:

    Final
    Encinal 35 Eureka 20

  69. mytwocents Says:

Sorry Logger fans BUT SPEED KILLS…were moving on now to Marin.

  70. Reggie Hammond Says:

    Jets 35 Eureka 20

Jets baby needed tough win to get ready for MC
    Good job Jets.

  71. Scl alum Says:

Boise State 24, Nevada 14 about the end of the 3rd q

  72. c.sparks Says:

woooow great game at the nailhouse.! encinal vs marin for the 3rd straight year!!!!

  73. renegades10 Says:

Grant beats St. Mary’s 20-11 despite Shaq Thompson and Ference Lang being out. Grant will have a rematch with Folsom next week in the section finals. Folsom’s star qb Dano Graves went out tonight with an injury as well.

  74. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

Well My Jets win against a Very Good Loggers team that never quit fighting. All props to the Eureka Loggers, A classy hard nosed Football Team! On to the next round. Jet Pride!

  75. footballfan415 Says:

mc needs to win tommorrow first, but encinal has a good chance to beat mc with their speed

  76. Scl alum Says:

    Healdsburg 41, Fort Bragg 20 (F)

    Go Hounds!!

  77. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

    Scl Alum, Thanks. Jet Pride!

  78. Scl alum Says:

    Boise State 24, Nevada 21 early 4th q

  79. Scl alum Says:

24-24 Boise and Nevada 5:14 left in regulation

  80. Nuthouse Says:

Ha Ha! Boise is terrible. They would get absolutely man handled in the SEC. Probably the Big 12 and Pac 10 too. They’re like saying Encinal would win the WCL or EBAL!

  81. Scl alum Says:

Boise State and Nevada going into OT! 31-all

  82. Triton8 Says:

Speed does kill….but tonight I think Ve’e won it with his arm. The Loggers played real hard and seemed to wear the Jets defense down in the late stages. Thats a possiblity with our our lack of size on D though. Encinal had to work hard for every yard tonight. Can’t make the same mistakes next week in Marin…penalties and turnovers. Gutsy game by both teams…..but Encinal prevails with great 3rd down pick ups! Picked up a 3rd and 25 and a 3rd and 15 to ice the game. Ve’e threw some great balls! He has to be a top QB going into next year? What a rifle. Allen ran like a bull also. The Loggers seemed intent on clogging the line of scrimmage and I guess that left the passing game open….

  83. Scl alum Says:

I wish I could’ve seen the Jets-Loggers playoff game, but sounds like it was a great game!

  84. Triton8 Says:

the drive that took almost the whole 3rd quarter….right out of halftime….included 3 4th down conversions! Great game!

  85. renegades10 Says:

I don’t know that Ve’e is one of the top QB’s for next year. Would be good if he could make it out to some of the summer camps and workouts such as the Nike ones. Elite 11 also runs a regional camp over at Berkeley each year. But as far as this area goes he is behind Houston, Kline, and Lockie right now. But Ve’e and Malik Watson at Pitt could be sleepers who with a good summer could get some looks.

  86. renegades10 Says:

And it is a great day for this Vandal that the Broncos went down. Now ESPN and Lou Holtz will have to find something else to talk about.

  87. KillerD Says:

Wow , what a Great, greeeeeeeeeeat football day!

Congrats go out to Auburn and Oregon and Nevada with a killer win vs. Boise State.

Also, great win for CN at BOD, huge win on the road.

My pick to win it all in D3 has been the JETs but I picked them to go down tonight vs. a tough Eureka team. Alas, I was wrong, excellent win Jets, very good win.

My original picks to win are still alive:

    D1 – Cal high

    D2 – Casa Grande

    D3 – Encinal

    D4 – Healdsburg

Wish I could have seen many of these games in person tonight.

  88. c.sparks Says:

    d1. De la.
    d2. PINOLE VALLEY..
    d3.. ENCINAL/MARIN
    d4. ST PATS

  89. ManDown Says:

Encinal look really good tonight. Congrats.

  90. 617lemon Says:

Congrats to the jets. Tough game tonight hard hitting. Loggers played hard enjoyed the game real playoff atmosphere out there. What happen to all those all league defends from berkeley? Why cant berkeley beat a good ebal team? Players? Scheme or coaching?

  91. Reggie Hammond Says:

Bleacher Coach……buddy………….2-0 vs your NorthBay Brother. You gonna ride with this week or talk about how much you LOOVVEEE Marin Catholic. Come on back baby.

  92. Triton8 Says:

Lemon…..I guess they don’t have to revote now? Maybe they really were all in PV?

  93. shabawler Says:

    @mvalfan

Hows is it that Carter “went off last week at QB”?
    Carter 0-2-0-0.
    Are you talking about wildcat?
Carter 12-140, respectable, but may not enough tonight.

    Just one man’s prediction.

    DON’T SLEEP!!!

  94. ManDown Says:

Encinal’s QB looked really good last night. All his passes were on the money and he is much better than what I gave him credit for. The RB Allen is a beast where is that guy going next year? He runs hard. Eureka made an outstanding effort to come back but Encinal was the better team this night and proved how good they really are.

  95. Jack Cates Says:

Ferndale SPSV listeners jobbed not getting Tag doing the game. Coppini/Stone no comparison to Wotherspoon/Berti.

  96. footballfan415 Says:

MC 0 San Rafael 0 end of 1st quarter….this is going to be a close game…..IF MC wins this game they are going to be in some trouble against Encinal

  97. Scl alum Says:

Salesian 28, Fortuna 7, 3 mins before the half

  98. NCS Fan Says:

Ferndale 14, St Pats 0, 3 min left in the 2nd qtr.

  99. footballfan415 Says:

MC 9 SR 7 close to halftime…….MC in trouble

  100. footballfan415 Says:

MC strikes again 16-7….SR cannot afford to get into shootout, but MC has alot of options out there on offense once they get rolling

  101. Scl alum Says:

    Wow, go Ferndale

  102. footballfan415 Says:

    fernadale is no joke!!

  103. Scl alum Says:

    Salesian 42, Fortuna 7, just 1:19 2nd q

  104. VeeTee Says:

Winner of D3 should get State Title birth.

  105. footballfan415 Says:

veetee likely they will if its MC, Mira or Encinal….CN with 3 losses maybe tough even though they had the most brutal schedule…san marin if by miracle wins it all no chance to go the game

  106. NCS Fan Says:

I guess the week off didn’t hurt Salesian

  107. NCS Fan Says:

14-0 Ferndale over St Pats @ half.

  108. footballfan415 Says:

    16-7 MC at halftime

  109. NCS Fan Says:

Sounds like San Rafael came to play

  110. bigeasy Says:

Tonight it is the battle of danville part 2 SR and MV square off again in this battle for a semifinals berth. last time these two met SR had their best offensive game of the year scoring over 30 points. MV was able to pull of the win with a big play by dalis bruce to score the game winning touchdown. the big hero of the game though was Mcgovern he had four tds and almost single handedly won the game.

In this rematch i expect big plays from Mcgovern again, but if the wolves double or even triple cover him look for davis bound Dane Turner to have a big game. The mustangs will also have sullas running the ball tonight. when he was been healthy the mustangs have been hard to handle. Their defense has steadily improved throughout the season and i would expect for this trend to continue.

On the other side of the feild we have the wolves. they have had an up and down season to say the least. After big nonleague wins including one over mitty they came in to league play as a potential contender but an early lost to granada brought them back to earth. While Kline has been getting a lot of heat for his less then stellar numbers he has actually been playing well recently. The key to the Sr offense is catching the ball. Their entire reciveing corps has had trouble with drops all year. Jr reciver Patrick Worstell stepped up big last week with some big catches look for him to make a difference tonight. The wolves have found a lot of succes running the ball this year with Weiss. He has made huge plays for them this year. On the defensive side of the ball Kyle Egan and Ben Teichman led an expirenced and aggressive defensive that actually gave DLS a tough time earlier this year.

You would think that the rain might play a factor in offensive production but that was not the case for either of these teams in the first round. the mustangs will defeat the wolves for the second time this year and get a chance for redemption against cal in the semis. 41-20 Mustangs

  111. Scl alum Says:

Middletown-El Molino should be a good game tonight. I’d have to give the nod to Middletown though playing at home..

  112. footballfan415 Says:

NCS fan….this San Rafael team has showed up every game this year, they are tough squad with a couple of talented guys

  113. Loggerfaithful Says:

My hat is off to the Encinal Jets. They played a good game. Eureka had them in several long third down situations and the Jets were able to convert.
    Congrats!

  114. NCS Fan Says:

I like Middletown by two to 3 TD’s over Elmo.

  115. Scl alum Says:

I think there’s a good respect between Encinal’s and Eureka’s programs. I think Eureka showed a lot of heart in their late rally in the last quarter. Two very good teams..Still not sure who Encinal will be playing as of yet. San Rafael is playing scrappy against powerful Marin Cath thus far..

  116. NCS Fan Says:

21-0 Ferndale over St. Pats 10:19 left in 3rd qtr.

  117. Scl alum Says:

Mild upset in the making up in Humboldt

  118. NCS Fan Says:

Mild at best. Ferndale only lost to Mclymonds 18-0, and turned the ball over five times in an upset loss of Fortuna 13-18. They would beat Fourtuna 9/10 times they played. They are better than their 8-2 record indicates.

  119. NCS Fan Says:

28-0 Ferndale over St. Pats 9 min left in the 3rd qtr.

  120. footballfan415 Says:

D4 is going to have some great matchups too in the semis

  121. NCS Fan Says:

I agree fbf415, last year the D4 qtr finals saw three games go into overtime, and the 4th game was decided by 1pt on the last drive of the game.

  122. footballfan415 Says:

geez Marin IJ is awful at updating their twitter scores….still shows 16-7 MC at half like 45 mins ago

  123. NCS Fan Says:

28-6 Ferndale, 1:56 to go in the 3rd qtr. Extra pt. was blocked.

St Pats receiver caught the ball at their own 30, then fumbled when hit. St. Pats other receiver picked the loose ball up and ran 70yds for the TD.

  124. NCS Fan Says:

Marin IJ is a joke IMO

  125. footballfan415 Says:

the IJ is very average….sometimes they have decent coverage other times they just miss the boat…..all pales compared to here

  126. NCS Fan Says:

28-6 Ferndale end of 3rd qtr

  127. footballfan415 Says:

    31-7 MC 3rd quarter…….MC is rolling now

  128. NCS Fan Says:

34-6 Ferndale over St.Pats, 5:41 left in the 4th qtr

  129. Jack Cates Says:

34-6 Ferndale all over SPSV. 5:41 left in 4th

  130. footballfan415 Says:

Go Ferndale!!! talk about bringing it!!

  131. NCS Fan Says:

34-6 Ferndale over St. Pats, final

  132. Jack Cates Says:

    Ferndale defeats SPSV, 34-6.

  133. Scl alum Says:

Wow..congrats Ferndale. Looking forward to when you guys play Salesian next weekend.

  134. footballfan415 Says:

MC cruises in the second half 37-7 final

  135. monarch86 Says:

BHS All Leaguers? Not from what we saw Friday Night, plenty of athletes and some big guys but not nearly as strong or as well conditioned as Cal especially up front. In addition, it looked like that was the hardest BHS had been hit all year some big hits and crushing blocks had them hearing footsteps. The Cal Coaches were a little slow to adjust when BHS started blitzing every down, score could have been much higher. Lone BHS Score came against 2′s & 3′s.

  136. KillerD Says:

    Well let’s see:

    1. Good job Salesian, that is a solid win vs. Fortuna, very good win altogether. I had picked fortuna, so hats off to Salesian.

    2. Ferndale is nasty good and I am picking them over Salesian. I had them easy today over St. Pats.

    3. Middletown will take care of business tonight

My picks to win that are still alive to claim Division titles are:

    D1 Cal High

    D2 Casa GRANDE

    D3 Encinal, jets, jets, jets

    D4 The Hounds of Healdsburg

  137. mytwocents Says:

Just got back from MC San Rafael game…Marin is TOUGH…we will need ALL HANDS ON DECK to beat this team and the only way we can do that is if we play hard for 4 quarters, which for 22 varsity players (who have already played 12 weeks and are pretty banged up) very hard to do.BUT……if anyone can beat them in this division it will be us. Marin has two full units (offense/defense) and a 45 man roster Jet players (most of which play both ways) will have a constant team of fresh players in front of them,we had the same scenario at Serra High School (Jets only loss). We controlled the first part of that game as we will next week except this time we will shock the NORTHCOAST when we upset Marin Catholic in front of their home crowd.

  138. footballfan415 Says:

Mytwocents……it is going to be a great game next week, i wouldnt be shocked if Encinal won this game…the rivalry is to the point where both teams are top notch and can go either way…..encinal has more individual speed, MC has more depth and strength….cant wait to see this game!

  139. footballfan415 Says:

btw i think Cardinal Newman proved last night that it can beat MC or Encinal…..they have the depth and size to counter MC and to wear down Encinal

  140. mytwocents Says:

Cardinal Newman has their own problems as do we just getting to the Championship.I was not going to be so arrogant to look past next week.
One thing forsure is only very good teams remain…..

  141. wildcards Says:

MC VS CN IN THE FINAL…..MC 32 CN 12 bet on it!

  142. footballfan415 Says:

mytwocents completely agree, the teams left are definitely the cream of the crop and should be some wild affairs next weekend

  143. renegades10 Says:

As has been said for most of the season, the D3 playoffs this year were going to be real tough and a lot of fun to watch. For this particular division based on SBG guidelines, I don’t know there is a bracket out there that is tougher this year in NorCal. In my opinion though, for Encinal to win the need Ve’e to have a great game to provide some balance. MC doesn’t have the speed to matchup with Encinal, but they have a pretty good rushing defense and if they don’t have to worry about the pass at all, they will stuff the box to stop the fast paced running game of the Jets. I will admit to not having seen the Jets play this year, but I might put either Allen or Trodder out at WR a few times to give some different looks and take some potential run stuffers with them. If Encinal is up at half, this game is a tossup. Tied or down they lose as I think the depth will play a big role in the 2nd half.

  144. Triton8 Says:

lack of depth will kill the Jets….unless they are ahead at half. As long as they are up, the momentum can keep the fatigue away….but if they get down, I think the fatigue will hit harder. The turf will help the speed. They are going to need to hit on some long runs. If they stack the box too much…Ve’e will make them pay and that will make it a game. The MC coaches saw him throw well last night, so that may impact how they design the run stop?

On D, the Jets will have to scrap all night and fire a lot. The size difference will hurt them. They will have to combat that with speed

Other than that, the Jets need to stop the penalties and fumbles. If they play great, they can win and shock everyone!

  145. mytwocents Says:

Hmm, well renegades10 that’s not exactly how we see it but point taken. We are up against it and MC has been the pic by every who’s who in prep football. One thing we all know is that on “any given day” any team can win, this happens at all levels of Football throughout the country,I cannot explain how it will go down but we will pull off the big upset.

  146. mytwocents Says:

Dam Triton8 I agree with everything…you know your shit…we do need the lead, we can fight the fatigue if were winning….all that…

  147. footballfan415 Says:

the tough thing about MC this year is that they have 2 QBs who can throw with Goff and Tewhill and they went for over 2,000 yards throwing over 20 TD throws…they also have a 1,000 rusher and close to a 1,000 reciever who also has about 300 yards rushing, they have 2 RB’s with 500 yards each apart from their 1,000 rusher….but Encinal needs to stop the run first and fire the gaps and force MC to throw it………Encinal on offense is going to need to break some runs w/nakamura and allen, suck up that that MC defense and run some PA on man coverage and get behind the MC defense…..it can be done, will be a hell of fight……..most of all Encinal cannot get into grind em out game with MC, b/c MC’s big boys will wear them down

  180. The Scout Says:

Just got back from taking notes up in Humbolt.4 inches of mud and water is what St Pats was up against. It took away the run and the pass.Thank god the Pride is home. That field should be outlawed!

  181. BSAL fan Says:

Ive seen several ST Pats and Salesian games and those teams are very evenly matched. It will be interesting to see what Ferndale does on a real football field against Salesian.Ferndale has been getting away with the mud, slop and water for years!
I was told this was mudwrestling, not football.Hate to say it but I think St Pats got the screws this year.

  182. NCS Fan Says:

The last time I checked both Ferndale and St. Pats played the game on the same field. Salesian and Ferndale both lost to McClymonds with similar scores. It should be a good game.

Only one East Bay team left in D4.

  183. MV Alum Says:

All props to SRV they came to play last night. MV seemed tired and flat just couldn’t get it together just want to say thanks to Sullas, McGovern, Turner, Lockie, and all the rest of the team for a great season I hope they all do well at the next level that I know many of them will be moving on to. Good luck to all the teams finishing the playoffs.

  184. Scl alum Says:

    I think Salesian-Ferndale should be a close, hard-fought game..

  185. Jack Cates Says:

BSAL fan proves he knows nothing that he talks about. Last time I checked both teams played on the same field. And SPSV plays on real grass at home. BSAL, you neglected to complain about the ride north. Curious you omitted that given the way you complain about everything else.
Further Ferndale beat you on a “real” football field in 2007. SPSV ran into a better team that played better. Why not complain about your offense and its self imposed penalties. End of story.

Agree with Scl that the Salesian game should be very good. See you there Saturday.

  186. observer Says:

Went over the mountain to take notes for a possible matchup in 2 weeks and I have to agree with BSAL fan. This field took them out of the game, not Ferndale. You had to be there. Not sure if DLS could have generated any offense there.Players have to deal with wind and rain but the six inches of mud was a joke!
By the way the 07 game was 6-0.The type of battle you would expect from 2 good teams on a “real” field.JC you need to get out of your time warp, mud fields went out with the Colts in about 1968.
My guess is we will be seeing Salesian in a few weeks because their talent wont be erased by the conditions.

  187. footballfan415 Says:

BSAL fan real cute excuses……your NOT a real football player if you havent played some ball in some mud and rain…..that is where you dig deep and have to impose your physical will on the other team with some good ole blocking and tackling, sorry if St Pattys couldnt do either out of the comfort of their home

  188. PERKIN Says:

The league champ host rule is pathetic. It just doesn’t make any sense. Especially with the possible 5-6 hour rides up North that teams may have to take. The teams up North definitely have it tough by having to travel but if they get a home game they have a real advantage with always being in those conditions & bus rides other teams have to take.

Not a St. Pats fan at all. But they earned a 2 seed & only lost to a good Encinal team. The to REAL North leagues are pretty average & are always gonna be won by the same 2 teams.

Travel won again. Eureka, St. PAts, FOrtuna all went down. Who knows what happens if those schools all get home field.

  189. Jack Cates Says:

Observer. Educate me. I went to school there. I grew up there. Good teams overcome adversity. And then if they lose, they take their hat off to the victor. SPSV is all sour grapes today.
Maybe Salesian won’t line up off sides for the first 5 plays like SPSV. SPSV did the same thing shooting themself in the foot in 07. It wasn’t called in the first 07 game, but everyone in the stands could see it. When it got to playoffs (the second 07 game), and refs with a better understanding of the game were used, it was called. The field WAS a factor, but it was the same field for both teams. Surprised you didn’t complain about your ride over the hill.

  190. BSAL fan Says:

I havent interviewed any players or coaches but I have talked to some fans who were there.Nobody mentioned the ride or the officials.Everyones account was the same….MUD…!
Its obvious Mr Cates wants to bring something else into this conversation.I got a chance to see SPSV against Moreau and Salesian and their veer offense relies on timing. They also found a very good passing game this year to go along with their run offense, neither of which was possible in the thick mud.Just saying I feel badly for the boys to see all of their hard work and preperation removed because of an intangible.
Ferndale year in and out is a very good team, they play hardnose football. They do however frequently play and practice in these conditions which is a huge advantage.I played occasionally in these conditions over 35 years ago in the Midwest and trust me its nearly impossible to prepare for.
I just enjoy watching football and look foward to going to the Salesian/Ferndale matchup.Good luck to both teams and hope to see you there!

  191. KillerD Says:

I’m not going to debate the Ferndale hosting St. Patricks debacle being rallied about. I did pick Ferndale to win soley based on the fact that St. Patricks had given up a lot of points in 2010.

Now, on to my picks to win each Division:

D1 Cal high has a respectable shot to win it

    D2 Casa Grande looking sweet

D3 Encinal has a BRUTAL game upcoming vs. MC

D4 Healdsburg will beat Middletown and I have been warning of Middletown all year. They are good.

    * I am picking Ferndale to beat Salesian in Richmond.

** Nice work Miramonte and they got a Better Seed in the playoffs over Encinal and Mats will be in the Final

  192. Observer Says:

Should have known you were from Ferndale JC.At least you are humble enough to admit the field was a factor. What you dont seem to grasp is that its only a “factor”for the team that doesnt play in it every week.Educated?Enough said….

  193. sideliner Says:

I guess the East Bay officials just dont know what their doing?St Pats have played 110 games over the last ten years and they get slammed with penalties in two! Both against Ferndale…PLEASE!

  194. Reggie Hammond Says:

MIramonte had a serious cake walk to the Semi-finals but will go down to CN. I thik CN wins with relative ease they are play off vets & know how to win NCS.

  195. KillerD Says:

You know, as I’ve stated before, I am very surprised by CN because they are NOT an athletic team.

However, they play clean good football and are very well coached, so hats off to CN.

However, I am picking Miramonte to win vs. CN

  196. Triton8 Says:

….of course the field is an advantage. That’s why such a premium is put on winning your league! I’ll say the same thing I said here last year to PV, if you’re gonna blame the opponents field as a reason for losing…..THEN WIN YOUR LEAGUE and you don’t have to worry about it. I guess St Pats lost the DIV NCS Title when Encinal beat them then, right? You have to give the league champs something, with all these 5 different levels of NCS and 1-9 teams making it?

  197. footballfan415 Says:

killerD u really confident Miramonte is going to beat Cardinal Newman? i highly doubt that, CN played a brutal schedule and is peaking at the right time, who has Miramonte really played this year?

  198. KillerD Says:

you are right Footballfan415 about CN tough foes.

But, I like Miramonte approach, Defense first, then use that big ol QB to run around and through people, make some throws and end up winning.

I think Mats defense is far better than BOD was.

Look for the score to be:

    Miramonte 21

    CN 20

  199. Guest Says:

Killer what does encinal have to do right to win Saturday afternoon?

  200. sideliner Says:

Triton,Wrong Again! What you should have stated is”Thats why such a premium is placed on staying in a “A”division league with 3 teams”.
Ill give you time to re-think this…According to your methodology they could go 3-7 and host 2 or 3 games!!!Give me a break!
By the way”homefield advantage”comes from not having to travel, fan support, noise(ie:making qb audibles or snap counts difficult) NOT having field conditions where the mud is covering your socks!

  201. Triton8 Says:

….good point. But if you give the home game to the higher seed, you put youself at the mercy of a selection group from the NCS that doesn’t even have the confidence to make their picks in public. The secrecy that they hid behind is a joke and makes them not have to be accountable.

BTW, I think that homefield advantage is whatever it brings? Green Bay brings ice, snow and cold…is that fair for Atlanta(dome team) to have to play in? YES! Just because most teams have turf now, doesn’t mean that mud and slush is not a part of football. If the home team played better in the mud….then that’s a homefield advantage!

  202. Jack Cates Says:

Since Encinal plays on real turf and it was swampy against Eureka (from all that has been posted here), what’s to say SPSV field was any better? They too play on natural turf. Forget the field conditions. The better team won.

  203. KillerD Says:

Guest, to answer your question on What do the Encinal Jets need to do on Saturday to win at Marin Catholic?

    1. Get fresh and healthy, the extra day off will help

    2. Win the battle on every special team

    3. Return at least one Punt or Kick Off for a TD

    4. Score at least 21 points in the first-half and throw for at least 175 yards threw the air

    5. Win the overall Turnover battle margin

    6. Not too Homered by the Refs

  204. sideliner Says:

I understand your comment about Green Bay etc. However the NFL requires you do what you can to keep the “playing field” playable. They tarp it,they scrape it whatever is necessary. The problem with Ferndale is they do what they can to make it worse.
I wasnt at the game but spoke with a SP fan who while at a local diner listened to one of the locals ask another if they watered last night.I know this to be true as I witnessed their field in 06 as I was recruiting Javid Best at Salesian..It wasnt rainsoaked it was watersoaked.Leaky hose…you tell me.
There is a reason why bowl games are played where they are. Many bay area teams play in rain and wind, part of the game.In todays world mud is rarely a part of the action. Many sections have playing field requirements in order to host. Why? Because most people want the athletes to determine the outcome.

  205. KillerD Says:

Sideliner………..your takes are worthy of contemplation and serve us well.

May your fingers guide you back to this website time and again to share your good views

  206. Triton8 Says:

natural homefield advantages are OK, I think. Watering your field because you have no speed is not OK, and I would never think that this was acceptable in high school football. I also agree that in this day, mud is virtually never a factor.

Encinal’s field was not swampy. I wasn’t on the field, but it hadn’t rained in 3 days. The field definitely wasn’t hard, but it was far from “swampy”. The Jets were slowed by a good defensive gameplan against the run, more than because of a wet field.

  207. eastbayfbfan Says:

miramonte also has plenty of playoff vets and ncs winning experience…

  208. KillerD Says:

Yes eastbayfan…………..and another reason I am picking them to beat CN

  209. eastbayfbfan Says:

im just responding to reggies wall post. should be a very good game. mats shut down a mediocre san marin team last night. second year in a row that has happened

  210. sideliner Says:

KillerD..I only join in from time to time as my schedule allows. When I come across an unfortunate situation such as the one St Patricks had to face.We never see this any longer at the college level and I believe the CIF will standardize their requirements sometime soon. Killer, your insight into the matchups and your breakdowns are impressive keep it up!

  211. KillerD Says:

Sideliner, I like your input too and your compliments are appreciated.

I have asked a friend for Marin Catholic DVD and I should have it this Tuesday.

I look forward to watching it, comparing it against Encinal video and breaking that game down.

If there was ANY POSSIBLE way to get out of family obligation this coming weekend, I would be the First person in the stadium for the incredible game upcoming featuring Casa Grande at Concord.

It will be a game for the ages, and I am a huge fan of Lloyd but am still picking Case Grande to win D2.

  212. Spartan83 Says:

I’m taking my son to the Concord/Casa Grande game!!

Killer, what to you think about the Pinole Valley/Rancho Cotate game?

  213. KillerD Says:

Spartan83, you and your boy are lucky, going to be a wonderful game.

    Rancho Cotate at Pinole?

Pinole is very good and so is RC.

It is very hard to beat an excellent team twice in the same season.

Look for Pinole to clean up the errors that made their 2nd week victory over RC tighter than the two-point margin it was.

RC will be burning with the Revenge factor and looking to avenge their defeat on Pinole’s home turf earlier.

I LIKE Pinole’s defense better than RC’s offense but RC’s offense AND their defense is VERY good.

The one thing RC cannot simulate is Pinole’s speed and athletes.

But, RC has already seen them this year of course.

Pinole 26 vs. Rancho Cotate 17

  214. JFree Says:

The Miramonte vs. Cardinal Newman game should be an entertaining matchup. They both play similar styles of offense, which should help both of their defenses. BOD struggled on defense with Newman’s spread, which can be tough to prepare for in a week, but Miramonte has been practicing against this all year. O’dowd pretty much handled the CN defense, even when they were dropping 8 and 9 into coverage after getting ahead. Two critical turnovers hurt Odowd, or this game would have been much closer. Fatigue may play a role as well, as CN lines up 60 guys (probably some JV’s mixed in there), and only one or two players play both ways. If Miramonte can stop Newman’s tiny but tough qb and running back, they should win, if not, it will look alot like the BOD game.

  215. Spartan83 Says:

Yeah, We’re looking forward to seeing a incredible game between Concord and Casa Grande. I see you picked Casa to beat Concord … What makes you believe this can happen? I know that both team feature very good quarterbacks and put up alot of points. But, I don’t know much about either teams defense. Will this be the deciding factor?? Between both of those teams, who would you think Pinole (if they get by Rancho) would have a better chance of beating (even if just a slim chance)

    Go Spartans!!!!

  216. eastbayfbfan Says:

killerd, if mira wins div 3 do they have a shot at d3 state ?

  217. Reggie Hammond Says:

They aren’t winning D-III. The D-III title game is this Saturday at Marin Catholic. Its like Niners vs Cowboys early 90′s

  218. Prep Fan Says:

The NCS home field advantage rule has been debated for a long time. A team with 4 losses that wins a league with only 4 or 5 teams can end up hosting a 1-loss team that comes in second in a 9-team league. I think they should just give them a home game in the first round, and after that go according to the seeding. And field conditions should be considered when allowing games to go forward. Cal High had to play at Castro Valley in the NCS 1st round last year in baseball when their field did not dry up fast enough, even though Cal was the higher seed and neither was a league champ. So there is some leeway in the NCS deciding not to play at a school if the field conditions are not “up to speed”.

  219. KillerD Says:

I am picking Casa Grande in D2 based on their QB and of course their Defense.

If Miramonte wins out they have a very, very good chance of earning a state bowl bid in D3. Their victories would match up well vs. all others vying for that coveted slot.

  220. observer Says:

I saw Casa Grande’s QB play against YV, who beat them. He is the least mobile QB I’ve seen all year, hard to believe he’s signed to play at Colorado. If Concord can get him on the run, he’s done. Unlike Ricky, who pulls rabbits out of his hat on the run, this guy was awful when pressured.

Concord wins this one. May not be a blowout like all of Concord’s other games, but it won’t be close.

  221. Scl alum Says:

Go ‘Hounds..Healdsburg’s semifinal game at Middletown should be a dandy. I know Healdsburg will be fired up, playing possibly the best Middletown football team ever. Expect there to be a lot of fans there from both schools..

  222. VeeTee Says:

I was checking out Maxpreps and their Bowl game rankings from a couple days ago and the top five in D3 for the North includes the NCS D3 final four teams with Union Mine. I believe they lost. Which means according to Maxpreps, winner goes to state.

  223. c.sparks Says:

WINNER OF DIVSION 3…. in NCS. can write there ticket to carson… EXCEPT for cardinal newman.. 3 loses.. will not get you in…

  224. KillerD Says:

Observer…interesting note on the CG QB but the kid makes incredible throws. I agree about Lloyd of Concord he is amazing.

CG has a better defense, that is why I picked them to win D2.

C.Sparks…………I concur on your D3 take exactly

The Healdsburg at Middletown game will be Insane

  225. concord guy Says:

    killer d

not many tds versus concord first d as of late

    carrillo 1

    tennyson 0

    yv 2

    northgate 1

    cp 2

it didnt take 7 turnovers for concord to score 78 points….casa pitching back to back shut outs is impressive , but they came against 2 teams that have no idea how to have balance much less the ability to throw, concord has put a lot of pressure to opposing qbs….ask the last 2 qbs who watched the games from the sidelines

  226. KillerD Says:

I LIKE Concord very much don’t misconstrue.

But only One team can win as we all know and I am sticking with CG.

But Concord could easily run away with this game if things turn south for CG.

  227. ROEPER Says:

Jimmy Durkin, What do say what do you know? Hey did anybody hear who DE LA is playing next season? Word has it that Bellermine will be the favorites for the CCS title and State next year. I hear the Bells will be Playing De la Salle next year in San Jose.

I also heard Encinal and Grant have been conversating.

  228. Bleacher Coach Says:

ROEPER I sure hope your wrong on the Encinal report. That would be an ugly beating for the Jets. I have seen then Pacers twice and the Jets 4 times this seasson , Grant is head and shoulders above the Jets. Talk about a roster Grant comes 65 players deep with 23 players between 215lb and 299lb and 5 players over 300lb 2 of which are sophmores.

  229. Reggie Hammond Says:

BleacherCoach you pulling for Encinal this week or what? Talk to me baby.

  230. ROEPER Says:

Worse than the Encinal vs Novato score. Novato really stunk it up. Pelliki is all they had and he got dealt with too.

  231. BigJoe Says:

How about Grant playing De La next year?

  232. YoMama Says:

US Grant don’t want to bus down to Winton Dr.

  233. Bleacher Coach Says:

Reggie I pull for the Jets every week. I sat on the EHS side vs Novato and will sit there vs MC. My issue is not with the team. It is with the fans who think the Jets cannot be beat and who do not give respect to the programs who have a long history of Championships

  234. island02 Says:

Killer D, I like your breakdown on the RC Pinole game. My son and I will be at that game. I agree RC has seen Pinole already; but Pinole’s run game is very very good, and its hard to defend speed. Alameda saw Pinole in the regular season and the results in the playoffs were the same. I hope RC prepares their defense better than what Rochlin did for Alameda. Someone mentioned watering down their field to minimize the visiting teams speed. 2 years ago Rochlin watered down Thompson prior to the O’Dowd game, Alameda lost by 52…

  235. Reggie Hammond Says:

Yeah, can’t blame you there. Well I’m having fun playing these North Bay teams way better then playing these sorry ass BSAL schools. Only game worth watching was the St. Pats game. Eureka program was very well coached. I liked what they did on D but you can tell that he’s never played teams that pass. Their run D was very good but no real idea how to defend the pass. Probably has a lot to do with the area they play & the elements.

Brackett has traditionally done a great job but something seems to be missing this year. Has some of his coaches quit? Usually much more sound on D & offensively don’t like where they’ve gone. WIng-T Fly stuff from last year & years pass was better then this Spread Shotgun stuff he’s running now. Seems like he’s running stuff that has to have a stud QB which this guy isn’t. Other stuff worked for how many chamoionships why change it? He’s got the Speed to run the FLy/Wing-T.

  236. ManDpwn Says:

Island02, Why are you throwing your team under the bus like that? You should be ashamed of yourself

  237. ManDpwn Says:

Island02, Why are you throwing your team under the bus like that? You should be ashamed of yourself.

  238. ManDown Says:

The Encinal vs Marin game will be a good one this week. I don’t know who will win because both teams seem to be playing really good football this year and it should be a hard hitting game. I went to the Eureka vs Encinal game and it seemed as if Encinal was going to blow them out but Eureka played tough all night long. There QB is much better than what I gave him credit for. He made some big time throws when it counted and was the reason they won.

Pinole could be in some trouble this week if they come into the game cocky thinking its over before it starts. If RC can shut down Pinole’s RB then they will have a good chance at beating them but I think PV will take care of business against RC. RC will give them all they can run for but Pinole’s speed will will get them past RC.

  239. ManDown Says:

Island02, I like how you threw your coach under the bus like that. Very classy.

  240. thedude Says:

Man down i do believe pinole has more than one rb. Correct me if i’m wrong.

  241. island02 Says:

ManDown, Our kids put a;ot of work into this season , and despite all the injuries, these kids played their hearts out , only to have this guy not step up and give them the type of head coach they deserve. You can judge me all you want; but ,when my son went down in week 4 , Rochlin didn’t even ask me how he was doing ,nor did he ever check to make sure he was good after the surgery. He told me not to have my son get cut on unless he plans on playing again, and then he has to want to play ! He questioned his injury and then told the team it wasn’t a serious knee injury. He has done the same with Ruckman in regards to his season ending knee injury. This man is no longer my head coach , and if Alameda was smart , they would replace him. ManDown I have always respected your comments and still do, but I’ve been holding my tongue all season and taking sh#$% from alot of bloggers about our program. Seasons over, my son graduates…I know that sounds selfish , but thats how I feel.

  242. island02 Says:

Pinole has 2 very good rb’s, Lewis and Hill.

  243. ManDown Says:

thedude, Come on man we all know PV wants to give the ball to James Lewis all game long. If you can contain him and play mistake free football on offense this PV team is very beatable. They want to feed Lewis 20-25 times a game and throw the ball deep. Thats it thats all

  244. EBfootball Says:

    Air it out Island02!!!

  245. island02 Says:

EBfootball, hahahahha ! I’m good now , man it was hard holding that in since 09/24…..LOL

  246. ManDown Says:

island02, I’ve heard the bad things that go on over there in Alameda from these blogs but I didnt think any of that was true. I feel your pain and it has to suck for a Alameda team with some talent just can’t get it done. Good luck to you and your son and I hope you guys can get it together down in Alameda.

  247. renegades10 Says:

The Bells game is news to me, I have understood next years schedule to be St. Mary’s, a SoCal power, and OOS team. But if DLS is traveling to SJ to take on the Bells someone who can promote it needs to jump on the EBAL-WCAL showcase. SRV and MV are also traveling to Mitty and Serra respectively next year. Put those three games at one location like SJCC would be great for all.

  248. Bleacher Coach Says:

Reggie Hammond Novato was at the very best if they got lucky and beat Hearitage or Foothill a 7-3 team when the season started. After the first game and the Offence could not move the ball it looked like they would be 6-4 and thats where they should have finished they got homed by the Refs at the San Marin Game had 2 TD’s called back in the last 2 minutes of the game but thats what happens when your an average team.

The biggest issue for Novato this season was injury bug 6 senior startes where out buy the end of the regular season 2 guys really that were really missed both started on D and one was getting some DI looks before he blew out his knee in game 2.

In the end it is part of the game happens from pop warner to the pros it just sucks when it happens to you lol

  249. island02 Says:

ManDown, Thanks man, I’m sure this won’t be the last time you hear anything about Alameda’s program. There is alot of work to do in that camp. The talent is there for next season, and who knows whats going to happen with the 2 schools. Anyways ,thanks for all your support.

  250. HARRY CALLAHAN Says:

Doesnt Encinal play Serra next year too. I hear MACK is playing Sacred Heart Prep also. Any news on that?

  251. ManDown Says:

Jimmy D, any word on where each division will be playing there championship games?

  252. c.sparks Says:

lmaooooooooooooooo ahahahhaha every one look at post #233 ahahahahahhahaahhahahahahahha! bleacher coach is a joke………… YOUR A MARIN FAN… but your a novatio die hard.. thats like being a monte vista fan and a San ramon valley wolfes fan.. either you like one or thats it… how u gone hope on every teams sack.. and lie and say your an encinal fan.. SO fake and lame…

  253. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Those decisions won’t come until we know the matchups. D-1 is already at the Coliseum and I’d think whichever game between D-2 and D-3 has more East Bay teams would get the other Coliseum game. If D-2 is Concord-Pinole, that would stand a good chance. Likewise if D-3 is Encinal-Miramonte. If all four of those teams made the finals, I could see one getting the Coliseum and the other being at Dublin. Since the NCS usually puts the game closer to the higher seed, you can look at sights like Santa Rosa as possibilities if teams like Newman, Marin Catholic and Cotate are in. We’ll just have to wait and see. The decisions won’t be made until after Saturday’s games.

  254. ManDown Says:

Thanks Jimmy D! Keep up the good work!

  255. 617lemon Says:

island02 i dont care what talent is coming back it won’t matter if rocklin is head coach n kemp the o.c. we know what u think about the fly sweep. all peni says is he shoulda went to encinal.you n i know were cunningham jr shoulda went.i’m just glad your finally telling it like it is.alameda also watered the field in ’08 vs. the jets.heat wave all week that year but thompson was real soggy.if you really cared about those kids on jv you would tell them to get out of there cuz they aint gonna get no scholarship or win a postseason game.

  256. 617lemon Says:

island02 they go to 1 high school who gets the gig? herman munster or tenorio?

  257. thedude Says:

wait a minute mandown…. I do believe Mr. Hill is more than capable of carrying the load for pv. So i don’t know if they want to hand off 20-25 time a game to Lewis. Hell does he even get the ball many that times?

  258. Island Chief Says:

    Mr.Cunningham,

You are a joke as a parent and as a coach. You are a perfect example of why parents shouldn’t be allowed to coach high school ball. Your actions are typical of something that happens in little league or pop warner.

First of all, you get on here and publicly announce that 2 games into the season your son has decided to quit football & concentrate on his grades, he is then labeled a quitter by many, damaging his reputation.

You knew that your son was ineligible going into the season and at the point where he decided to “concentrate on his grades”. Putting him through unnecessary b.s. brought on by you. The bull crap reasons you posted up here were laughable. Corruption had to have made him eligible.

Then your son has to get on here to clear his name, because of his father’s “pre-mature” retirement speech. You do damage control and backtrack and then lie about your interpretations of the matter.

    As far as coaching goes,
You serve on the AHS staff, then get fire/released/quit whatever and decide to throw Rochlin under the bus. Saying he didn’t prepare the Alameda team for their game against Pinole Valley. Pinole Valley would have beat Alameda every day of the week. Any unbiased person knows that. Alameda was a terrible team. They didn’t belong in the playoffs.

I am not a fan of Rochlin, but for some ex-coach to get on this blog after he gets fired/released/quit and bad mouth the head coach says everything we need to know. You were part of the problem. You get on here and talk up the Hornets all during the pre-season & then turn on the program after the season doesn’t go as planned. Injuries,no talent & some buffoon blogging coach were what wrecked this Alameda team.

P.S. – Good luck to your son, I hope he heals and does well in the future. I also hope that he doesn’t have his dad opening his mouth and embarassing him anymore.

  259. shabawler Says:

    ManDown,

With RC scouting PV on Saturday, how many points are you giving Pinole, if Rancho Cotate is favored to win?

Keep thinking that PV only has one RB and that the deep ball is it..that’s all.

    DON’T SLEEP!

  260. Bleacher Coach Says:

c.sparks the only joke on this blogg is you and the only football you know is from the video games you play on your Atari.

I played for the Jets durning there strongest era when we had the ranked teams for longer than your current steak and we NEVER LOST TO ALAMEDA . However my kids attended Novato I have followed and supported that program for 12 years.

It is a win win for me either way.

Unlike you I am not so biased that I cannot form an objective opinion about another team.

  261. Island02 Says:

Island squaw , you’re the joke. I didn’t get fired I chose not to go back and coach for my own reasons. You know nothing about me or my son or our family. I’ve been raising him since he was 4 and u call me a bad parent? I laugh at you and everything you stand for.

  262. monarch86 Says:

Just saw the All EBAL Team on SR Patch, looks like Cal players took 7 1st Team Spots, Garwood and Taft 1st Team both sides of the ball.

  263. Triton8 Says:

Uh….I think we are going a little overboard on this stuff? This is a blogg meant for shooting the shit about high school football. I don’t think it was intended to attack HIGH SCHOOL coaches or players. It especially wasn’t meant to attack someone’s parenting skills? Why don’t we all step back and use this board for what it is for?

By the way…..Encinal is not closing and there is no need to pick only 1 coach for next year on the island! Don’t you guys read anything other than this blog? None of the current proposals involve closing Encinal HS! I think everyone is getting all caught up in the hype…..

  264. KillerD Says:

IslandChief and Island02…………I have no interest in your open-blog war of words, but might I say if this were a boxing match or MMA event, in my humble opinion it would be IslandChief with a decisive knockout stone cold of Island02.

I don’t know either of you but am fully disclosed on the previous postings by Island02 regarding his son’s playing status for the Hornets.

I also have no interest in the value of Island02′s parenting, as that is none of my business.

But, as Michael Buffer might say while presiding in an imaginary ring or octagon over the Blogwaves………….

    “Are you Ready to Ruuuuuuummmmbbbbbbbbbbbllllllle!?”

Because you two have some history it’s interesting to read IslandChief’s facts and takes on the situation.

Island02, it is hard to fathom why you posted a LOT of stuff about your son and his situation for the world to see??????

Some situations are better left buried and in time return anew to life, than resurrected like an unwanted zombie.

    No?

  265. KillerD Says:

By the way, is ANYBODY going to watch 49ers at Cardinals tonight?

Or, will most of us be watching ESPN reruns of this past weekends collegiate games?

  266. outsider Says:

I am surprised that Lucas Dunne was not mentioned at all and Drew Reil was not first or second team.

  267. outsider Says:

Sorry he got MVP. Well deserved.

  268. monarch86 Says:

Reil had a mountain to climb with the pre-season hype arounf the other 3 QB’s of note

  269. footballfan415 Says:

Out of curiousity b/c im too lazy to check, who is the best team Miramonte has beat this year? i know they lost to Las Lomas, but that cant be the best team they faced this year? Alhambra?

  270. Scl alum Says:

I would say Alhambra is the overall best team Miramonte has beat..

  271. Reggie Hammond Says:

BleacherCoach I’ve probably seen Novato play 5 times over the years Miramonte 06 Colisiem, State 07, Encinal 08/10, & Marin Catholic 09. He ran the best Fly package I thought in the Bay. Everything was Wing-T based then he’d have a lil I, then it grew to some crazy 5 wide stuff also. These are the plays that I’m sure he won all his championships with the best looking team being the 06 team. Why did this guy BRackett change what was a NCS muti-championship offense? Or did somebody leave that ran all his plays? Cuz at the Encinal 10 game it looks like all that stuff is gone.

  272. Island Chief Says:

    Mr. Cunningham,

I do not believe that you are a bad parent every day. I just believe that you make poor decisions about parenting when you get on here and run your mouth.

Let’s see, what lesson did you teach your son by your actions?

    LESSON #1:
If you JOIN A TEAM & QUIT,you should immediately go online & BAD MOUTH THE BOSS on a PUBLIC BLOG.

Good Lesson, I’m sure the Oakland Dynamites can’t wait for you to comeback, now that you have “high school” experience.

  273. novato Says:

#271 Here is the problem with Novato. Although some issues are coaches or lack there of, most has to do with players coming in and thinking they will win games just because they play for Novato. Not willing to work in the off season is not going to win games. Not showing up to practice but still getting to play will piss off other players, including coaches. Lack of respect for the game/team and entitlement issues is what broke apart the team. When the coaching staff turns their backs and have blinders on it only gets worse and spreads like the plague. I don’t blame bracket since he could only work with what he had but the rest of his staff needs to figure out how to get back to the basics. If the players weren’t in the weight room on Monday after the Encinal game, don’t expect anything to change next year either.

  274. c.sparks Says:

dude, can everynone back up and give island002 his Freaking space. i am a Encinal fan, and some of you guys take this way to far. From what i hear Micheal cunningham i an outstanding and huble young man… * i bet he gets it from his dad..so lets not even GO there! number two.. this man is entilted to his opinion… and i would agree.. becuase he seen everything firsthand… lets not be like litte F***** kids…. *Island cheif* you just mad becuase you not gone with with that culture at AHs.. kemp great coach.. and i think he needs to be a head coach….rocklin needs to go….. the talent is there…

  275. c.sparks Says:

** what i here micheal cunningham is an outstanding and humble man

  276. Spartan83 Says:

Man down, I believe you forgot to mention that Pinole’s got a pretty decent defense too! A lot of speed that Rancho’s offense will have to deal with. And as far as Lewis carrying the ball 20-25 times … That’s not the case at all. In fact they’ve had games where he’s carried the ball under 5 times (like the De Anza game). Now if only they had a deeper passing game … Their wide receiver coach sucks and needs to be replaced (this guy is blinded by size and doesn’t know how to use his other skilled players) Coach Krash … You could learn a thing or two if you had a passing game modeled after the Washington Huskies attack. Their speedy smaller receivers did better than your tall receivers. Speed kills … Look at what LJ does if you don’t believe me.

  277. c.sparks Says:

spartan quit your dam complaining and try to throw the coach under the bus… LOOK at there record.. steve alameda is not a dumb coach… and theres a reason why he put that man at wr coach

  278. Reggie Hammond Says:

Novato, good insight. I really have a lot of respect for this guy & his program I just don’t know how everything fell out all of the sudden this year. The talent seems to be there but I noticed last year with that scatback who was their main guy that the weightroom isn’t really there like it was in 06-08. Same with this years team skinny don’t look like they lift. That samoan kid lots of talen but he gasses real quick. I see him doing crunches & faking an injury instead of running gassers. Don’t know if he’s gotten any better since last year(or 08).

  279. bequiet Says:

    Yee, be quiet.

  280. KillerD Says:

It is keen to note many dropoffs of good football programs with established excellent coaches in place all stem from an overwhelming lack of players not willing to work hard in the weight room results in them getting crushed on Friday nights.

Unfortunately for Novato football from what I have been told and I am very close friends with a veteran and very well respected coach in the Marin area is thus:

Brackett (whom I consider an A+ coach) has had a brutal time getting support from some administrators and parents regarding a severe lack of work ethic from most of the kids. Kids not willing to put in demanding work most of the off season but still understanding that they will be a starter for the most part because they happen to be the best guy at that position.

Ugly behavior by some kids and I believe it leaks out from the parents attitudes.

What should happen is a line needs to be drawn in the sand that says, “Lift and run year round or you are gone for good from this football program.”

Or, is that the wrong approach for high school football?

Touchy issue for sure when dealing with affluent families and their kids.

  281. StompYoCouch Says:

Trick please, we all know PVHS got more than one WR. Play the Seniors!!!

  282. 617lemon Says:

c.sparks kemp is the head coach. what is on the field is his vision thats his offense he has already said he runs kickoff coaches the q.b position. this is rochlin 1st year calling anything besides the timeouts. you see what kinda defense he had.

  283. ThSpartan83 Says:

Hey C.Sparks, I have looked at their record! And while 11-0-1 is great. This young team could have been even better with more depth if they rotated their players during the regular season. They had the potential to be the number 1 seed, undefeated and with more depth in the passing game. Believe me when I say I hope we win it all and that I’m proven wrong. But, if not … I bet it’s because we fall behind this week or next week and they won’t be able to make up the score by running the ball. And as far as why Krash is the wr coach … Who knows? All I know is some of the players on both sides of the ball think he’s a joke. In fact I know of at least one coach agrees with me.

    Bequiet

  284. ThSpartan83 Says:

Bequiet??? This must be Coach Krash??? You better hope they win these next two weeks cause that’s the only way I’ll be quiet. And if this isn’t Krash… Come talk to me in person.

  285. Island Chief Says:

Alameda High was a terrible team. Coach Rochlin or not. Cunningham is an idiot for bad mouthing a program he got fired from.

  286. novato Says:

#280 Exactly!! The only thing that is incorrect is the “affluent” part. Novato’s demographics have changed considerably in the last 5 years. Affluent parents send their kids to MC or St Vincents. There are BIG ISSUES with the parents….flipping off Bracket as they drop off their kids shows the slide in parental support. When my boys played, the volunteer/supply list would fill up before the first game. I went to opening day and our announcer was asking fans to go to the store to get ice since no parents brought any….it was 95 degrees and 120 on the field. I am a single parent and I always made sure that i started saving in Dec for the fall football “donations” that are requested to run the program. I made sure that I had the money for the ice and oranges or red bulls when it was my turn. There is no excuse for parents who complain then walk away without lifting a finger….I’m rambling now, sorry. Just sad how far things have fallen and I’m worried that things won’t change.

  287. novato Says:

One more thing….getting back to basics means getting back to basics. No more cross fit sh&t and start running the monster hills around town. Grades, Weights and Running, in that order. Year round. Eat 3 or 4 pbj’s, lots of eggs and milk, EVERYDAY. My boys did it and they both have NCS bling to prove it works!

  288. KillerD Says:

Novatosays,,,,,,,,,,,,your insight is valuable for any football program to learn from or re-learn.

May Overpushy, downright rude and disengenuous and lying parents have ruined high school and youth sports for those of us that love the game and the kids.

  289. Triton8 Says:

…..as much as I hate to say it, parents are always the problem! From youth football all the way up until College (Craig James?) The kids usually all understand what is right and wrong, but their parents just react and lash out. I am speaking about the Novato situation based on what I have read, not what I know firsthand. When parents bad mouth coaches at home, it kills whatever leadership capabilities that are possible at practice and games. If this is true, it is sad. My question would be how do all these parents throughout the community suddenly turn on a coach that is so respected and successful?

  290. KillerD Says:

Triton, your question is sound and here is my answer regarding “How do all these parents throughout the community suddenly turn on a coach that is so respected and successful?”

Parents get pissed when their kids are not playing, are not playing enough or playing the wrong position.

Parents get upset when their kids are being misused in their opinion or when their kids are not touching the ball enough, not running with the ball enough, not throwing enough passes.

Parents get pissed when their kids are not getting Division I football offers

Parents get pissed when their kids are not earning first team all league honors

Parents get pissed when their kid’s team is not winning enough games

It all starts with the Parents obsessive focus on their kids. Winning is last

  291. Triton8 Says:

well put…..and I have experienced all bullet points above as a coach dealing with parents. The only thing I would add, would be….when parents get pissed because they have invested so much money in a personal pitching or hitting coach for little Johnny…and he still doesn’t play enough for them. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you pay for a coach…the kid has to have something to work with. Investment$$$ in player doesn’t correlate with more playing time automatically. Parents don’t understand that…and as a parent, myself, I understand it is tough to realize.

  292. Scl alum Says:

I’m just wondering, and not overly familiar with this year’s Novato team. Did they have some “key” players who returned as seniors this year, or has this been chiefly a rebuilding year for the Hornets?

  293. mytwocents Says:

Marin vs Encinal…for all of you Wildcats fans I will say that your team is bigger, you have a huge line with good Quarterback, backs, receivers and a great Defense to go with it.Your roster (55 vs our 25) gives you tremendous depth and a constant flow of fresher players. You played a tougher schedule are undefeated and ranked in the
top 25 in the State.Just about everyone is picking you to win DIII and to easily beat us.We play at your place during the day time and we come into the game averaging about 50 yards in penalties per.game.You shut us out in the DIII 2009 Championship
27-0. Wow…..EVERYTHING IS STACKED AGAINST US….now all we have to do is show up and play the game.Lucky for us this is not College or Pro its High School and were all still learning to play the game, so far on paper you have played it better and accomplished much more.On Saturday we will find out which team will advance to the finals and I want you all to think about how many times in the history of SPORTS that you have seen the Underdog win a game……..

    peace

    peace

  294. Prep Fan Says:

I thought I remember reading early in the season that Novato had about 7 sophomores starting for them this season. If that is the case, then it would definitely be considered a rebuilding year.

  295. Old Former Meddling Coach. Says:

Well I guess i’ll put in “my two cents” :-) And say that My Jets have a Big Mountain to climb in a Outstanding Team facing us Saturday but i have Faith in Our Young Men and i believe we can do what quite a few believe we can’t do. That is because we believe in ourselves and I know if we give our all, We can do it all. Jet Pride!

  296. mytwocents Says:

This is a true David vs Goliath story…Los Lomas played them tough they were up on them 8-7 at half but lost 20-8. Berkeley lost to them 28-20 and these are two teams that I think we are as goos as if not better.Tenario has played these guys twice so its not his first rodeo. I like our postion going into this game the pressure is on them to win so when we put them in an unfamiliar spot will have to see how they respond.I do not think they will stop us from scoring 3 or 4 touchdowns and just like every other team we have played they are going to feel the team speed.

We have had good practices and all hands are on deck ready to go just one more last thought, what are the chances of a team like Marin Catholic playing 13 perfect games without ever making any costly mistakes or even losing a game ?

  297. ManDown Says:

You Encinal fans sound like you’re preparing to lose this game. What’s up with that? Scared of the mighty wildcats? Lol. Still having nightmares of last years loss? Not much confidence this game huh? Don’t get all humble on me now after all that trash that was being said all year.

  298. mytwocents Says:

I’m not biting on your bullshit Mandown…you have an opinion and your entitled to it.

The remaining 4 teams in D III are all qualified to be there and I like our chances to beat Marin nothing more nothing less and I refuse to glorify your comments.

  299. Triton8 Says:

There is no doubt that MC is the favorite…they are big and have numbers on the Jets. They were big and had numbers on them in 2008 too? There is no doubt that this will be a tough game, but if they get off to a quick start, pop a few long runs and get a couple turnovers….there have been much bigger upsets! Penalties have to be kept to a minimum. I think our RBs are better, top to bottom. If the Jets protect Ve’e and he is on, they will be tough to beat. What scares me is our lack of size on defense, though. The kids have to play a great game….if they do that, I don’t think it’s crazy to see a vicory for the Jets! It definitely wouldn’t hurt matters to get a nice special team TD…ala Xavier Milton!!!!!

  300. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

Mandown, I guess we can’t win for losing. Bleacher Coach says we give other teams no credit, You say were getting ready for a loss by giving props. We have always given MC their respect. but giving props doesn’t equal to bowing down because i believe we will be the Victors! Jet Pride!

  301. KillerD Says:

Regarding Jets at MC…Look Upward on this thread and review my Points to a Jets victory.

If they do it…thy will be done

  302. Triton8 Says:

I just looked at it……we think the same in terms of Sat.’s game. Early lead is very important for momentum. These kids won’t quit, but they need some enthusiasm to keep the fatigue at bay. Special teams score is a must.

The one thing that puzzles me is the “not getting homered by the refs”? Is that a posibility at this point in the season? I hope not. How are they picked? Is it the best of the best, or whoevr wants to do it?

  303. c.sparks Says:

    GO JETS!

  304. KillerD Says:

Triton……..one can always expect to be the unlucky recipient of more yellow flags when on the road in the playoffs.

When the MC crowd frenzies up, the Refs or some Refs will get caught up in it, and they WILl toss a flag for a questionable Block in the Back or marginal Holding call that might have otherwise fitted away.

  305. footballfan415 Says:

Go MC (myt alma mater) but it will be a good game that i am sure of, it will not be a repeat of last year and of course MC can be beat…….i think MC wins a close one, but of course im pulling for my Cats, nothing but respect for the Jets and wish you guys luck on saturday……..but i do think everyone underestimates the athletes on MC, they just arent “big” they have some speed with Parker, Terry, Tewhill, Petrini and Scott….not Encinals gamebreakers, but not that far off either…..safe travels to all in their treks to their respective playoff games!

  306. ROEPER Says:

    Footballfan415,

Then we will punch that speed in the mouth and continue to draw 1st blood the Nailhouse way!

  307. eastbayfbfan Says:

who do u think plays the NCS d3 winner at state?

  308. Spartan83 Says:

Okay, so one of the coach’s from the Pinole staff has told me that my comments are disrespectful to him, the staff and the team. I apologized to him as that was not my intentions. Believe me when I say that I am a huge fan of this team and only wish to see them (all of them) do well and win. Which they have done and hopefully will continue to do so … I am very proud of this team. My comments were not of disrespect, but of my opinion of what I believe is an area that could be better. An area which I believe should have been addressed or tested during the regular season. Regardless, this will be my last blog as I don’t want to upset the coaching staff. Good luck Spartans, go out there and play hard and continue to make us all proud.

  309. HAAL Fan Says:

Quote 1: “And as far as why Krash is the wr coach … Who knows? All I know is some of the players on both sides of the ball think he’s a joke. In fact I know of at least one coach agrees with me.”

Quote 2: “My comments were not of disrespect …”

… but more so of derision.

  314. KillerD Says:

Footballfan415……….to answer your Yodel…..it was I KillerD that Erroneously picked Miramonte and Casa Grande to be Victors tonight.

Your “Hark, who goes picking wrong there?” has been humbly answered by me.

I missed and you scored a Bullseye and I tip my hat to you tonight with humility and admiration.

It is better to have picked and lost, than to never have picked at all, no?

    Great calls tonight.

  315. YoMama Says:

hey i got me a score, salesian 76, ferndale 28. they were run out of dodge in richmond, cal. now, if they are still on san pablo ave, i can recomend a good diner to get a bite to eat., MAC donalds, the women fans can get free tube steak or trouser trout. just be aware, there is no free water, as you came down here with hose and could not find the water bib to turn it on. you must pay for the sodas. get a good night sleep drivin through the iron triangle on the way to the bridge.

  319. Jack Cates Says:

The above posted from beautiful downtown Vallejo.

  320. ncs watchdog Says:

It seems some serious credence must be given to SPSVs claims that the field condition being so muddy should have been declared unplayable in their quarterfinal game in Ferndale last weekend.Salesian, much like St Pats, relies on speed and precision.Today it was clear,on a field without mud,Ferndale is no match.
Its been reported that an unscheduled inspection was done on their field Friday at the request of the NCS to be reviewed at a later date.I havent got verification but this along with homefield advantage guidelines are suppose to be on the agenda.

  321. YoMama Says:

Jack Cates- take yur ass back to dopeville USA.

  322. bsal fan Says:

congrats to all of todays winners

  323. bigdog Says:

cates can smoke his way back home, like ferny was smoked in the hood. i want my cows milked at five in the morning, sunday, just like you was milked down here. bye the way, some of your women decided to stay in the bay after today. they want real men who pay attention, not get up so very early to screw a cow.

  324. bigdog Says:

i think i saw cates at the game this afternoon. he was trying to get the water bib on, had a hose hidden in his draws. when the bib did not work, he knelt down to suck the water out. all he got was mud. stay home homer.
