East Bay Girls Volleyball Notes: NorCal’s, Rankings, Stats

This post is a day late, but it’s fitting since Campolindo seeks a CIF State Division III title game appearance tonight. And I’m also sitting at a coffee shop in Moraga writing this.

So let’s start with those Cougars. In under three hours they’ll be facing Sir Francis Drake for the right to go to the state finals, and you can expect a different Drake team tonight than the one that Campo truck-sticked in the NCS final.
Truck-sticked is a Madden reference for any other Madden nerds out there. With that said, Campolindo is playing its best volleyball right now and has stayed completely healthy. A recipe for success. I expect the Cougars to pull this one out.
Moving on to Division I and Division II. Foothill had to face one of the top teams in the state in St. Mary’s-Stockton and gave it a valiant effort with very close losses in games one and two. Foothill, much like Campo, was the definition of a team this year.
Bishop O’Dowd was also another great story. They were forced to move up to Division II, and dealt with injuries and inconsistency to win a fourth straight NCS crown. If they were still Division III, they and Campo would likely be duking it out for a state title bid, but the Dragons had to face a Presentation team that is also one of the best in the state.
On a quick Division V note… I used to work for a newspaper by Chico, and one of the 12 schools I covered was Hamilton Union of Hamilton City, which is eight miles from Chico. Northern Section teams rarely make a run like this, but the Braves are in the NorCal final tonight, and I had to send them a shout out.

Rankings

It doesn’t appear that there is any reason for the rankings to change. Campo is the No. 1 team in the East Bay for 2010. Now they look to be the No. 1 team in the state in Division III.
