This week, Jimmy and the Geek take part in the lead-up to this week’s Silver Bowl in a truly Geek fashion (yes, there’s an eating contest!). Enjoy!
Friday’s Silver Bowl between McClymonds (11-0) and Fremont (6-5) to settle the Oakland Section championship will be shown on tape delay on KDOL, Comcast channel 27 in Oakland. The game will air Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1) at 8 p.m.
The announcers for the game, which is at Laney College at 1 p.m., are former McClymonds football coach and current Contra Costa College coach Alonzo Carter and former San Francisco 49ers player Jamie Williams, now the athletic director at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Bishop O’Dowd is holding an online presale for Friday’s North Coast Section Division III quarterfinal game against Cardinal Newman. The game is the first home night playoff game in school history. Visit the following link to purchase tickets.
Those who utilize the presale can pick up their tickets at will call beginning at 5 p.m., which is also when walk-up tickets will go on sale. If you can’t make it to the game, a live video broadcast will be available online at KBCSports.com
Here’s a rundown of all the scores of the past Silver Bowls, along with a recap of how many titles and appearances each school has.
The first rankings are up.
The NorCal playoffs begin Tuesday. Let’s wish luck to our local teams.
This year marks the 30th playing of the now-titled Lou Jones Silver Bowl. It began in 1980 as the Oakland Tribune/Eastbay Today Silver Bowl to similarly recognize the North Coast Section championships that were also sponsored by the Tribune. I dug up the story that ran in the Tribune on Nov. 15, 1980 announcing and previewing the game. I know some of our old OAL lifers will enjoy.
Alright BSAL fans, at long last here are the final stats. I tracked down what we have from our guy in charge of them. I don’t have the team stats, but at least here are the individuals. If we get the team stuff updated, I’ll try to post those as well. Thanks for your patience.
UPDATE: Team stats are now posted as well.
