East Bay Boys Soccer Notes: League Favorites, Rankings, Standings, Stats

By Matt Smith
Sunday, December 12th, 2010 at 8:35 pm in Boys soccer.

Some people asked for my breakdown of the league favorites and teams to watch out for, so here it is.

ACCAL

The favorite here is definitely Berkeley. After dethroning Richmond from its longstanding perch last year, the Yellowjackets announced they were back on the NCS scene. This year, it seems that trend will continue. Richmond certainly won’t lie down, but the Oilers are young, and without Leonardo Montes for possibly the entire season.
The darkhorse is Pinole Valley. The Spartans have been pretty close the last couple of years, and this year they are off to a pretty good start.

BSAL

I don’t know too much about Albany this year, but the Cougars were great last year, and though they lost a few key seniors, they had a pretty young nucleus. I have to go with them as the favorite, with Piedmont not too far behind.
St. Mary’s and Kennedy-Richmond will be my darkhorses, but the BSAL teams haven’t given me too much this year.

BVAL

Gotta go with Deer Valley. If someone would have asked me two weeks ago, I would have said Antioch, based on two straight league titles. After Liberty reached the playoffs last year, you could see that this league was starting to even out, and even though Freedom and Antioch have gotten off to rough starts, watch out for them. Heritage is also much better, and will be my darkhorse, with Pittsburg as the team that Deer Valley has to watch out for at the moment.

DFAL

This blog might explode if I don’t take Campolindo. Also, it would be foolish if I didn’t. The Cougars impressed me last year, and are ahead of the curve this year, establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the East Bay, period. This league is probably as deep as any league in the East Bay, right behind the EBAL, but I can’t pick everyone as a darkhorse. I think Dublin, Acalanes, Dougherty Valley and Las Lomas are all capable of winning this league, and very well could. But my darkhorse is Alhambra. The Bulldogs play a physical type of game that keeps them in every game and could pay off in February. Keep your eye on them.

DVAL

In this league, Clayton Valley is a pretty heavy favorite. The Eagles are a legit NCS Division I contender as well. I think Ygnacio Valley is the darkhorse, and are talented enough to give CV a match when they play this year, and I’m also hearing good things about Concord, but don’t know much about the Minutemen at this point.

EBAL

The Cal Grizzlies are the team to beat. They seem to be the team to beat in the NCS, let alone this league. However, no team in this league will go undefeated. In fact, a team with less than three losses would shock me. De La Salle, San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista, Amador Valley and Granada will all be in the mix and will have big wins throughout the season. However, I will drink the Kool-Aid and jump on the bandwagon and say Livermore is the darkhorse.

HAAL

A two-horse race, all the way. BIshop O’Dowd and San Lorenzo. Both are ranked. Can’t really call one the favorite and one the darkhorse, but if I had to I guess I would say the Dragons are the former and the Rebels are the latter.

MVAL

I can’t pick just one, so I will say both Newark Memorial and Logan are the favorites. Both are playing extremely well right now. Mission San Jose is my darkhorse, because the Warriors have shown the ability to beat some good teams, and will do so again.

Cal to face English team

The East Bay’s top team, California, will face a team from London, England’s oldest school, the Oundle School. The game will be on Friday, and the team will train with the Grizzlies starting Wednesday. The refs have volunteered for the game and there will be a social event after.

I’ll get back to you on scorers was home sick did not attend

    Dan

  2. DFAL Says:

    These are well stated matt!

  3. DFAL Says:

Matt do u know if its true that campo finally got some kid who can throw the ball in a long way?

  4. Matt Smith Says:

I have heard something, but I’m not sure yet.

  5. Soccer fanatic Says:

    DFAL

Campo does have one kid for sure who can throw the ball 35-40 yards, he deminstrated that in the WSC championships and a few other times. Not sure on a name, but I believe he is a sophomore, maybe a junior

  6. bambam Says:

I believe you ranked them fairly well for now. NM will probably be higher in the end and the EBAL teams will be difficult to rank after beating themselves up in league. CAL has the best general on the field that I know of, so that rates CAL the highest in my book. I won’t mention his name as it has been done to death between this site and the football site. He comes from with good family with strong values, oh he is also a good student and soccer is in his blood. He deserves all of the props given to him. Did CAL learn from last year when teams tried to shut him down in various ways? (irritate, double, hack, ect)

I also think that your 4 losses is close but I would be suprised if an EBAL school won the league with less than 2 losses and less than 2 ties. 8 wins should do it.

  7. Soccerfan Says:

What’s going on? Teams who are losing are moving up spots??? Livermore,Dougherty Valley,Pittsburg. They all lost and they all seem to have moved up. You might as well add san leandro to the top 15 since they lost to Cal 1-0 just like Livermore did and you have them up there.

Teams need to win to prove that they should be up there it shouldn’t be based on what people hype them up to me.

  8. Matt Smith Says:

Finally, some criticism. I love a good discussion.
The rankings the first few weeks are figuring things out. Pitt also has two wins in that span, and got compliments from people even in the loss to Newark. Dougherty lost to a team in the top five, and their win over O’Dowd keeps them above BOD for now, and some teams had to move up.
And Livermore is everyone’s Team De Jour. Let’s see how that plays out. Livermore’s three losses are to top ten teams.
Who would you have ranked up there?

  9. Soccerfan Says:

Pinole won 3 straight games and they didn’t move up one spot. Pittsburg won 2 and they moved up.

Dublin needs to drop. They are not that good… This is a new season. Look at who they have wins against.(Hercules 0-4-0,Northgate 0-6-2,Washington 1-3-1,Liberty 1-2-0).This teams have an overall record of 2-15-3. It’s time to move on.

I’m surprised that a team like Ygnacio Valley who was very young and talented last season isn’t in the top 15. You didn’t have them even considered in the first rankings. I watched them play pinole and they are really good. That’s the only team I would move up to the top 15.

  10. soccer fan Says:

What teams have san lerenzo played?

  11. mvalteacher Says:

Pittsburg and Pinole valley play each other on Tuesday so which ever one wins should move up to the Top 15. IS that what your saying soccer fan? Ygnacio Valley was really young and talented last year so they are definitly better this year. I believe they will beat College park tomorrow. Newark is still the team to look out for.

  12. Soccerfan Says:

I’m not saying the winner should move up to the top 15. The only team that deserves to be in the top 15 right now is Ygnacio Valley. The winner of Pitt – PV should be close to getting in too.

  13. Matt Smith for president Says:

Campo will be tested later in the season with games against Clovis West, San Lorenzo, and Doughtery Valley again. If they do come out on top of the DFAL, then they’ve earned my respect. Playoffs can change everything though…

  14. Matt Smith for president Says:

Right now I just don’t see them as strong as California, San Ramon, or other top D1 teams

  15. LivermoreSoccerDinosaur Says:

San Ramon may not win it this year, but watch out for these guys over the next couple of seasons. Strong influx of Mustang Celtic players mixed in with Mustang Red players. Same effect as the Santos players had over the last 2 years. Once the Santos players head off to college, it will be this next groups turn to dominate the all league categories.

  16. Soccer fanatic Says:

So are you saying campo has not earned your respect matt? Maybe u should go out to there games this week

  17. dfal1 Says:

I’m guessing “Matt Smith For President” is not Matt Smith, correct?

By the way I think Campo will be without a number of their starters on Wednesday against Dublin due to a mandatory school event that evening. We’ll see how good their depth is against the team that won NCS D2 last year.

  18. John Taylor Says:

San Lorenzo 3 Bishop O Dowd 1 folks. Seems like San Lorenzo is going all out this year

  19. Nick Davis Says:

i just got back home from the San Lorenzo game. Great game, in my point of view, San Lorenzo dominated mostly the whole game and had wayyy more opportunities than the dragons. Also, what a great comback in the second half by the rebels. From loosing 1-0, they came back and scored in less than a minute, and then the other two goals occured. San Lorenzo is now 6-0-0 with 17 goals for and only 1 goal against.

  20. Matt Smith Says:

Right, Matt Smith is different than Matt Smith for President. But Matt Smith for President is much more awesome than just regular Matt Smith.
Looking forward to that San Lorenzo v. Campo match.

  21. ebal fan Says:

Matt who plays tomorrow in EBAL?
I will catch the Cal vs Granada game at Cal.
I have Cal pulling it out 3-1.

BamBam did make a great point by wondering what will happen as Cal’s nameless player gets man marked and hacked and such, how will the respond? Last year they struggled until they figured it out.

  22. Soccer fanatic Says:

Campo will indeed be missing a few key starters on Wednesday against Dublin, personally I think they will be able to hold on withthw great youth that no one knows about on that classy bench of theirs. It should be good

  23. The Truth Says:

Campo looks like the class of the DFAL.They have the look of a team with good senior leadership and grit- kind of like Las Lomas last year- we shall see if they can finish better than Las Lomas did. They have the look like the team to beat IF they stay healthy and the keeper can continue to play at a D1 level
.On another note what is up with the Cal high lovefest? They are, very very good with out the nameless player. Both Fagenson and Danielson make everybody else around them look good because of the their intelligent play. There is to much talent on that team to say that a one person makes the difference. The sum of the talent is greater than any individual player.
My dark horse prediction though is MV in the EBAL with Zamora owning the Cal ( and everybody else in the EBAL)midfield.MV has talent up and down, front and back and Zamora is the real deal…a true D1 prospect and probably the best player in the EBAL. Sorry to all the wannabe’s and good luck

  24. ebal fan Says:

The Truth, you are clearly an academy parent.
The Cal vs MV game is one to watch with who you say the best player is in the league matching up with Cal’s midfielder.

  25. SoccerScout Says:

    To EbalFan and The Truth,

I believe Zamora has way better vision than Rivas does. So I would definitely take him on my team anyday as the best player in the league. However, in all of NCS, I believe Newark’s Navarro is the best. He is a quick lad who can always create oppurtunities for his squad. SRV will be the next big challenge to them. Also Logan plays Clayton Valley Wed, see if the MVAL is looking good for a NCS run.

  26. The Truth Says:

Sorry Ebal fan but I have no skin in the game as a parent.I am just a fan who speaks the truth

  27. Matt Smith for president Says:

Don’t forget about Richmond’s Montes. He tore teams up as a sophmore and a junior. It’s really too bad he’s hurt right now, that kid is a real talent. He could easily be mentioned as one of the top players in NCS. Matt what do you think?

  28. Waterboy Says:

I agree regarding Montes of Richmond, seen him in club with the Maverick Team and at Richmond, one of the East Bay’s best, but a bad knee has set him back.

Seen Zamora of MV and Newarks Navarro this year and neither had exceptional games.

Any comments on the best defenders of NCS this year?

  29. The Sweeper Says:

Wow, 27 postings and not one mention of the 2-time defending D1 champs. Their fans must still be watching the other football. Even the top player discussions ignore them. I guess it must REALLY be a rebuilding year for the #8 ranked team.

  30. John Q Says:

Personally, best defenders for NCS from what I’ve seen is Deer Valley’s #5, the kid is a junior and may go pro after High school if the european club(Dinamo Zagreb) picks him up this summer. Yes he has several colleges trying to pick him up as well. He shut down Berkeley’s offense, Monte Vista’s Offense, and SRV’s offense.

The only reason Clayton Valley scored three is he was moved up top due to forward not being available, backups were not that effective.

  31. Scoreboard Says:

To The Sweeper – It’s December, relax. DLS people understand that its a long season and 1 or 2 poor results before the new year only highlight some things that need to be ironed out. Imagine if we judged all the schools on the results so far – does a 1-5-4 Granada not make NCS? Does Aguila from Richmond end up with 75 goals? DLS winless in the EBAL?
I do enjoy this blog a lot, I just find it weird that people are so quick to say crazy things…Finishing up a Barca Madrid clasico before I head out to an EBAL matchup. Any suggestions on where I should go?

  32. EbalDad Says:

Granada v Cal @ Cal looks like the match of the day
or DLS v San Ramon @ San Ramon

    both 6pm kick-offs

  33. Old HAAL Dad Says:

Scoreboard is right the 2011 NCS champ still has to get past Concord. Didn’t Monte Vista already do that? There is still a lot of season to go though. I’ve been impressed with San Lorenzo, they were so so last year and surprised a couple of teams but seem to have turned the corner this year. Their problem is strenth of schedule when it comes to NCS bids. Everybody always complains about all the EBAL hype but you can’t deny their success over the years and I’m from the HAAL. I believe their success comes from their outstanding youth programs from which they consistently reload their high school programs. Does anybody know why Castro Valley got rid of Coach Al Peacock who consistently had his teams in the playoffs and had two NCS Championships to his credit? I’d appreciate some info. on this.

  34. Matt Smith Says:

Montes would be the best player in the East Bay if he were healthy, in my opinion.

  35. east bay soccer Says:

    updates?

  36. Iker Says:

    Cal over Granada tonight 4-0

  37. Closeup Says:

Monte vista 1-0 over Amador. Mv dominated throughout even without a couple of key players out with injury. Amador almost tied in th final minute.

  38. ebal fan Says:

    SRV 1- DLS-0
    CAL 4- Granada-0

Matt, I believe you were wrong in saying Granada will be a top ten team. They just don’t have the talent this. Cal dominated the entire game even with 1-0 at half but they finished the game in the second half. I’m still debating whether to really jump on the Cal bandwagon, they are too sloppy at times winning with speed. I have seen 3 CAL games this year so far and everyone has had 5 in the midfield which limits #10 but he still scored tonight.

Matt, is there anyway that we can keep track of leading scorers in league play only?

  39. GlobalSoccer Says:

San Ramon 1-0 over DLS. SRV had an early goal. DLS controlled much of the game but came up empty. While DLS controlled the game they had no flow. Credit to SRV for holding on. DLS appears to have some issues which may be magnified this weekend at their our tournament against more quality opponents. BTW – a DLS MOM gets kicked out!!! What is going on?!*$%

  40. Matt Smith Says:

I was at MV tonight, they looked tough. I heard SRV was up 1-0 on DLS at some point.
Pitt beat Pinole 4-1, O Tech beat El Cerrito 2-1.

  41. JustSoccer Says:

Livermore 3-1 over Foothill. LHS dominated the game and Foothill was never really in it and had no shots in the first half. Livermore had problems finishing several chances and must improve there if they are going to win against the better teams. Foothill had chances toward the end of the game. Livermore sat out their normal keeper for the second half which paid off for Foothill. Foothill is going to have a long season. Livermore still needs to improve to truly play againsst the top 5, but they will be tough to beat.

  42. ebal fan Says:

Another point I would like to make is, Referring is awful all around and has been for a few years now.
On the second hand, it seems like we have a huge difference between the good teams and everyone else. I think soccer in the area is down as a whole as we don’t see the balance we once used to.

    Livermore 3- Foothill 1

  43. SRV DAD Says:

GlobalSoccer – You honestly believe DLS controlled much of the game. Wow! Are you serious? It’s okay to be a fan, but please try to be a little objective. Play was fairly even with both teams having the run of play at times. SRV GK showed why he is national team prospect. Both teams had a couple of good chances to score more goals.

In the five years I have watched DLS play SRV, that was the most disorganized DLS team I have ever seen. They are lacking a “go to” goalscorer like they’ve had each year. Very tough physical play by both teams. Good to see the Center Ref let them play a little, but he was slowly losing control of this match, and the AR’s should have stayed home as they were worthless. Not sure why DLS parent got tossed, but someone on the DLS side was being incredibly obnoxious on a questionable call that went against DLS. Should be a great rematch in late January.

  44. The Truth Says:

Global Soccer- was the DLS mom that was kicked out a blonde? LOL

  45. EBAL spektator Says:

I was at the SRV/DLS game, DLS had very little control and were pretty outmatched in the first half. In the second half SRV was too focused on preserving the win and played defense instead of the type of game they played in the first half. Which allowed DLS to attack from the midfield more freely than in the 1st half. DLS quite unorganized at time passed the ball out of bounds several times.

Most of DLS chances came from throw ins and set pieces, the ref was horrible and the ARs without a voice, at one point the center ref gave the SRV goalie a yellow card because he put the ball in the wrong place, which he was instructed to do by the AR, after the coach explained the issue to the Center, the two refs spoke and the center recanted the yellow- bizarre.

I agree with SRV dad, this is not the DLS of last year.
0-2 in league, welcome to the EBAL!

  46. John Q Says:

I agree with others that the Refs have been horrible. At the Deer Valley game it was an obvious mismatch, but the refs called back three goals on blown calls. On one play the ball was stolen at midfield the player outran the defenders and scored only to be called offsides after he scored. The fans were complaining at the ineptitude of the one AR and the center Ref called every bump the players made. I think they were trying to even out the game. The score was 6-0 but could have easily have been 15-0.

  47. bambam Says:

This is a good time to thread about how normal DLS looks or welcome to the EBAL lines come out. They appear to be at a normal EBAL level at this point. They might or might not win EBAL or NCS as they did for the past two years but they will get better as the season progresses. I remember 3 years ago when posters were saying that DLS would be lucky to finish in the middle of the pack in EBAL. That was posted on numerous threads prior to each of those years. After the first two seasons DLS in EBAL had only one loss during those two years. DLS appears to have dropped back to the pack this year. This is just trying to state that DLS might be playing bad to most but maybe they just aren’t playing up to a DLS standard that had been set the prior years. Knowing this coaching staff, They will work harder and be better by the time the second round starts.
Have fun now at their expense but beware later!!!!

  48. eastbaysoccerfan Says:

Just a few comments on all the madness. Dont count DLS out, yes they may be starting slow but they have been NCS champs 2 years running. The player pool they have is pretty darn good, the coaching staff is among the best in the NCS. Lots of other teams playing well that cant be counted out…Cal, Monte VIsta, SRV, Deer Valley, Livermore, Berkeley. The top 10 will be class with the bottom 6 being average and interchangable with most any team. It will be interesting to see how the season plays out and how much the rankings change from week to week. Agreed on the CB from Deer Valley, he is a great player, a shut down defender, and is getting lots of interest from colleges and a few professionl clubs. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of great games around the Bay Area.

  49. longtimesoccerfan Says:

If you were at the CAL v Granada game you will know how bad the refs were. I disagree with the comment that Cal dominated the game. It was pretty evenly matched until the second half. I don’t know how anyone can get into a rhythm when the ref is blowing the whistle every 5 minutes. He even blew it once when a boy got hurt because he thought there was a foul and when he realized his mistake claimed he blew his whistle for the injury. The refs decided this game rather than the players

  50. John Q Says:

Anyone have insight on Clovis West(Fresno) or Lincoln HS(San Jose)?

  51. John Q Says:

What time is Cal vs England Team this Friday?

  52. Old HAAL Dad Says:

There are only a hand full of good referees at the high school level so we all have to put up some bad calls it’s just a fact of life at this level. The key is to not let the players get caught up in the whining and lose focus. If you want to make a difference get a license and referee. I do agree with longtimesoccer on one issue, too many ticky tacky fouls, slows the pace down and makes for a boring game. It seems there are just too many refs that won’t tuck their egos in their back pocket and let them play. P.S. I am not a referee.

  53. Iker Says:

The refs decided a 4-0 game? Some refs…

  54. Soccer fanatic Says:

    Campo 1 Dublin 0
    Acalanes 1 Alhambra 0

  55. Tack Says:

Campo keeper scores in the last seconds on a 50 yard free kick that hits the post and bounces in. Very similar to last year’s NCS D1 final when DLS scored on a free kick. Very even game, and what a heartbreaker for the Dublin boys.

    Hello soccer fans….

Looking at conversations back … Yv isn’t looking that great … a darkhouse, they played like little ponies. College park had one player that made that team. Clayton Valley heavy favorites… How…because of last year… i just dont see it. Great job and great building of a program by Berean. Clayton may be starting slow , but watch out for College Park and silent Concord get in the mix of things.
Good luck to all teams today.

  59. soccerfan Says:

Sorry, I had wrong information. The game at Cal High tomorrow is at 6pm!!

Any one catch the news of the major upset that happened this evening? Liberty over Monte Vista 2-1. Monte Vista was clearly the better team, but could not hold onto the 1-0 from 5 minutes into the game. Ten minutes into the 2nd half Liberty was awarded a fair PK. Score tied 1-1. Then Liberty continued to play direct and put lots of pressure, Monte Vista continued to try to play possession soccer, but Liberty eventually broke through with the game winner with about 20 minutes left. Monte Vista applied lots of pressure and had lots of chances but just couldnt put the tying goal in. Liberty keepers made plenty of good saves to keep Monte Vista from tying or possibly winning the game. BVAL will be closer than most people think. BVAL teams faring decently outside of their league.

  64. John Q Says:

Liberty is getting better. The assistant coach last year, coaches a premier team, maybe he took the reins this year. He was the reason they made the playoffs last year. They’re a feisty group and the result doesn’t surprise me, but they’re not consistent.

  65. soccerfan Says:

bval is goin to be a tight competitive league, most teams have shown great stuff during these preseason games

  66. guesswhatteam09' Says:

SRV is alright, nothing too special. DLS was outplaying them second half without a doubt. SRV DAD, you can still talk about SRV all you want. But in the end, our kids are gonna be the bosses of your kids. So, in life we always win and your boy will always be second best. That, i can live with. SRV DAD agian, lets talk about being objective for a minute hahaha. youre a joke.

    “GuessWhat…”
I’m reminded of a proverb, saying whatever, by your post. It goes something like this.

“Better to be thought of as a fool, then to open your mouth (type your message) and remove ALL DOUBT!”

  69. Waterboy Says:

Curious if any one watched Richmond this afternoon at the De La Salle tournament against St Francis of Mountain View?

  72. JustSoccer Says:

    Livermore 7 – Alhambra 1

  73. eastbaysoccerfan Says:

Yes, Liberty is inconsistent, but they lost 7 seniors from last years first ever in school history NCS appearance. This season, Liberty boasts a total of 3 seniors, with only 1 holding a starting position. Young, inexperienced, but scrappy and will compete til the last whistle weather its upsetting Monte Vista 2-1 or losing to Newark Memorial 5-0…

  74. Soccer fanatic Says:

Can anyone inform us on CLovis West? Anything to look for? They play campo tomorrow what should be expected

  75. eastbaysoccerfan Says:

Some great games on tap tomorrrow at the DLS showcase. Is everyone excited? Lots of hostility between a few fans…Take it easy guys, lmao…its all good we are here because we love the game and love to support our schools. Some schools are more fortunate than others, but that doesnt take away from the fact that the players work hard at training weather they win lose or draw…..and unlike Club soccer in High School the players are active 5 to 6 days a week……Support the student athletes!!!

  76. THEanonymous Says:

    Cal defeated oundle 3-1.
Late in the first half number five fired a bullet to give Cal the first goal. Not two minutes after, let alone three it was tied on a breakaway. Through around thirty minutes of the second half, a pass on goal went past the intended teammate and into the right side of the net. Contests Cal, keep up the hard work!

  77. Matt Smith for president Says:

Can’t wait for the new rankings!

dude you sound like your 5 yrs old?

    are you serious??

“our kids will be the boss of your kids”….LOL…..who says that??

your like the DLS mom that got thrown out of the SRV game – par for the course

  79. dfal1 Says:

Matt, perhaps you should wait until Tuesday morning for next week’s rankings, after the Campolindo – San Lorenzo match. Assuming SLZ beat SL on Thursday this could be the match of the early season. Two great defenses; should be a good one.

  80. Soccer fanatic Says:

Who is SLZ and SL? San Lorenzo?

  81. The Truth Says:

    San Lorenzo vs San Leandro

  82. Soccer fanatic Says:

Who won that game? Does anyone know?

  83. Nick Davis Says:

i believe San Lorenzo won 2-1….but it seems that San Lorenzo’s GK got a red card very very early in the first half, almost like 5 min. into the game, and they still managed to pull out with the win, impressive.

  84. Livermore Parent Says:

    Livermore 7 Alhambra 1
Livermore is the real deal this year. They controlled the entire match and were up 6-0 before being scored on.

  85. Soccer fanatic Says:

Campolindo just beat Clovis West 1-0 very good game by campo it seems like THEY are the real deal this year!

  86. overrated Says:

SRV Wolves are overrated. Their top prospect Dallas Jaye is out for at least a couple months with a broken hand. He is their team. No one else can tell a soccer ball from a left elbow on that team. Their win over DLS was horrendous. DLS missed plenty of chances and SRV’s goal was very lucky. I’m curious to see how SRV does against all the other good teams in EBAL (Livermore, Monte Vista, Cal) They could be in for a long season.

  87. Soccer Fan Says:

Something to consider for next year, two extremely good players that played Varsity for Monte Vista as Sophomores transferred to San Ramon and will be available for them next season.

  88. THe Truth Says:

#86- interesting comments about a high school program that seems to always be competitive year in and year out.Team play will vary for many reasons in high school because the athletes focus on things outside of sports as well.Activities such as school work , student goverment and family issues. In all reality most if not all the kids that play will never move to even the next level.Lets hope they play for the fun of it and that they get whats most important- teamwork, commitment, conditioning, discipline. To the point about Jaye and to my point above about most kids not moving on.Keepers in D1,national team player pool candidates and pro’s have the instincts, the quickness and the hands and they are generally in the mid six foot range not pushing 5″ 10.He’s good but not the best in the area and quite honestly the coach at SRV has an excellent back up in Ritter.Really no big difference in play from the keeper position if the SRV mids can defend better

  89. Livermore Parent Says:

    Livermore 6 Alameda High 0

  90. Old HAAL Dad Says:

“Truth” you hit the nail on the head! Keepers who plan to move on to a D1 program are generally in the 6’2″ TO 6’5″ range, have big wing spans, great hands, decision making skills, defense communication skills and courage. Kids who have less than the above can definitely play at the Community college level but will be weeded out by the D1 programs. As for the comments by #66 & #86, I guess we have to consider the source and move on.

  91. Prep Fan Says:

Why don’t we just leave it that its a shame Jaye was injured and not be knocking his height or his recruitability. He actually has already committed to a D1 program – South Florida.

  92. Old HAAL Dad Says:

Prep Fan, That’s why I used the term “generally” and not”impossible”. My intention was not to knock Jaye, he’s a great kid with a lot of talent and I wish him all the best with his career. It is a shame that he might miss out on the playoffs as I’m sure SRV will be in there. My comments were not directed a Jaye but more at a general group of players at the high school level. He could very well be the exception rather than the rule. Everybody is entitled to an opinion and that’s mine, did not intend to offend anyone.

  93. Prep Fan Says:

It’s all good OHD. Understood & I agree. Just thought I’d stick up for the kid, who has to be heartbroken over this injury.

  94. The Truth Says:

Jaye has done alot with the talent he has and you have to hope he fulfills his dream.Injuries happen all of the time.Disappointing,sure. But all is not lost SRV fans

  95. guesswhatteam09' Says:

    love the game —

it was 2 kids who got kicked out of the game…get your facts straight and then ill maybe give you a minute of my day…

keep living vicariously through the teams that actually win.

  96. Matt Smith Says:

He’s right. It was two kids.
