Got some local recruiting news to share today, as Alhambra High running back/linebacker Jared Leaf has decided to take his talents to San Jose State next season. Here’s what will run in tomorrow’s paper.
Alhambra running back/linebacker Jared Leaf has orally committed to San Jose State, the Bulldogs leading rusher said Thursday.
“A big part was it’s close to home,” Leaf said. “The players there are real cool. They’re real supportive of players coming into the program.”
Leaf was a mainstay on both sides of the ball this season, starting at middle linebacker and rushing for 1,381 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine regular season games. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound athlete also had offers from Army, Navy and Sacramento State. He had also drawn interest from Cornell, which does not offer athletic scholarships.
Leaf said he doesn’t know what position he’ll play in college, saying that will be determined once he makes it to San Jose.
“None of us have any idea,” Leaf said. “It’ll be wherever I fit in best for them.”
