James Logan’s Ciarra Brewer, who finished second in the 2010 California Interscholastic Federation state track and field girls triple jump finals and won the event in 2009, signed today with Florida.
“I just narrowed it down to basically where I felt the most comfortable and where I could do well and have a good education. It was a hard choice,” Brewer said. She also seriously considered Miami and Texas before choosing the Gators.
Brewer made official visits to those three schools and Texas A & M, and made a decision “probably a week or two weeks ago” but did not make an oral commitment to any college, she said.
“I had a feeling where I belonged,” Brewer said. “I was weighing my options, pros and cons.”
Brewer said that she expects that the triple jump, the long jump, the high jump and maybe the 400-meter relay will be her events at Florida.
Last season, Brewer had the No. 6 mark nationally under all conditions (41 feet, 10 1/4 inches) according to dyestat.com.
